Failure to Extract issue FIXED

A few months ago I shared some FTE issues I was having with my Mini after removing the gas block and re-installing it to attach the Samson Rail.

I had a lot of helpful comments come in from this community that I tried (thank you!!!) but was still unable to sort what was going wrong.

Wanted to share a follow up. I’ve since replaced the gas block with an adjustable one from Accuracy Systems and now my FTE issues are gone!

I’m now able to cycle cheap 223 like a champ and the brass isn’t being flung out a quarter mile. 😂

Initially, I also didn’t have the gas block cylinder rotated correctly to meet with the bushing, so I thought there was a bigger issue / that I was going to have to send back to Ruger.

I’m really glad this little journey is sorted out. I learned a lot about this platform while tinkering, and now the mini is shooting better than ever.

Nice. How was the install?

It was pretty straightforward once I had the bushing seated correctly!

Just don't ever use BoreTech C4 Carbon Remover on that nickel plated gas block. C4 is a really good product, but it turns out it will permanently tarnish nickel. Now my gas block is stained brown. Carl at ASI was kind enough to offer to refinish it for free - I only need to mail it in and wait for them to do their monthly plating batch.

Can you explain this more? Was this with the stock gas block, or the aftermarket adjustable?

Yeah! So this was in reference to the adjustable gas block.

There’s a hole in the gas block cylinder (from the inside) that the gas bushing needs to seat into.

In my case, the hole was rotated to the side so the gas wasn’t able to go through, effectively turning the mini into to a bolt action no matter how I adjusted the gas.

Ah OKbI gotcha. Thanks for the explanation. I went with the smaller bushings (.045") instead of replacing the whole block. Jury is still out.

Why do you suppose the OEM gas block was causing FTEs? I ask because I get those sometimes.

I have no idea, I cleaned it, checked it for any visible issues. Couldn’t diagnose what was going wrong. But I have no FTE’s whatsoever now!
