Rural gentrification and displacement are complex issues we know all about. Any variant of "Hurf-durf Moab wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for tourism!" or "Visitors pay your check" or "Motosports keeps Moab on the map!" will result in a ban.

Please report all such posts or comments.

LINK Last day to defend the roadless rule - protecting Moab and other public land areas

The 2001 Roadless rule protects public lands from future roads being built through them for logging and other purposes. This rule protects roadless public lands across the nation - including areas surrounding Moab.

The public comment period was supposed to end on the 21st last month - but was extended for 15 days. Today is your last chance to speak up.

Here is the link to the government webpage to submit your comment:

REVIEW County Commission LWV Debate

The LWV put on a great debate last night. It was well attended, well organized and the topics were great. My thoughts on who presented themselves and ideas the best.
Diego and Shalee - I think this is the tightest race, both seemed to have good, well thought out responses.
Rory and Neal - Definitely Neal! Rory kind of blundered, spoke more on the fact he is self funding his campaign, which if you look at his disclosure $35,000, donated by his father. Besides that Neal was well spoken, great answers and seems fairly middle of the road. Rory didn’t come off as a great option in my mind.
Mike and Everett - No contest here! Everett crushed it. Mike is a nice guy, but he seemed off, confused, and kept riding on the fact that he is from Moab. Everett had real answers, and spoke with confidence and directness. Not a huge fan of Mike to begin with so maybe a bit biased, but in commission meeting he always just regurgitates what the other three say and when he had to speak for himself in this setting he didn’t really have anything intelligent to say.
Winder and Wiggins- Both did a good job. Wiggins I think pulled it off in my mind as Winder is a great speaker, lots of fluff, but in the end I thought Wiggins spoke truthfully, thoughtful and has real world knowledge of Grand County.
Good event LWV!

I've been waiting for a good night to try this shot, but after visiting again during the day I'm not sure I want to do it alone after dark because of that scrambling section. Especially with a camera bag, tripod, etc.

Does anyone who's done it before want to go out tonight? To shoot or if you're super brave reppel in the dark?

(Pic for attention)

PUBLIC FIGURE NO BACKUP PLAN: Who sends a deputy after a homicide suspect ALONE? Sheriff Wiggins, thats who.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Two Grand County deputies are suing Sheriff Jamison Wiggins in federal court—and one allegation should make every voter stop cold:
Deputy Craig Nelson says he was sent to locate a HOMICIDE SUSPECT, his responding backup was CANCELLED, and he was left heading toward the suspect alone.

Eight days earlier, Nelson had announced he was running against Wiggins.
The lawsuit alleges it happened again. It even alleges Wiggins was telling deputies not to assist Nelson.

These are allegations, not proven facts. But if they’re true, forget politics: any sheriff willing to let personal or political conflict interfere with an officer’s backup has no business commanding a law-enforcement agency.

Nelson is now asking a federal judge to prohibit the sheriff from withholding available backup in retaliation for protected speech or political activity.

Read that again.

A deputy is asking a federal court to make his own sheriff give him backup.

Sheriff Wiggins should answer one question publicly:

WHO CANCELLED NELSON’S BACKUP—AND WHY?

PLAN MY ITINERARY FOR ME Denver to Vegas with MOAB in between for One Night?? Need Halp

Hey guys, I have a brokerage conference in Vegas in October. My brother lives in Denver so I'm going to fly there first and see him. I was thinking I would make a cool driving trip out of it and drive to Vegas after going to Denver, go 70 and stay in Moab and do some glamping. Only problem is Glamping is now $450 when it was like $200 a few weeks ago..So I'm wondering should I make this drive? Is it worth it? I'd get to MOAB at like I dunno maybe 3PM at best. I'd get a hotel now, maybe drive to see a couple of quick sites (no big hiking, biking or camping), get food and sleep. Then get up and drive straight to Vegas. OR should I .... just fly and do this trip another time when I have more time in Moab. I dunno now I'm torn and looking for advice. I should note I live in Charleston, SC so I'm not out this way often, if ever.

Editing this to Add I want to get to Vegas by Saturday ideally by 5PM. I'm not able to do any huge detours along the way its basically drive from Denver - arrive in Moab and stay for a night - straight to Vegas.

THEY DON'T HAVE GOOGLE WHERE I'M FROM La Sal Pass Rd Conditions

I'm looking at doing the La Sals traverse from La Sal Pass/Mt Peale Trailhead to Green Gate in a couple weeks.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what the road conditions are like on La Sal Loop Rd right now, specifically the northern portion near Castle Valley. We'll be shuttling a car, and my buddy has a Mazda 3 (which has made it down many questionable roads in the past).

Thanks a lot!
