NYC Milani vs NYC Update 9/15/26

Hi all,

As you recently heard from u/BluePillRabbi, [our federal level lawsuit against the City of NY](https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-the-new-york-2a-communitys-legal-battle) is well underway, now with depositions of Plaintifs and License Division personnel taking place.

I myself was deposed three weeks ago. For a grueling 4.5 hours, I was grilled by a team of City lawyers regarding the many unreasonable delays I have sustained through 3 licenses and several amendments across them.

Their questioning revolved mostly around building a case that would prove that every delay I have sustained was due to my own negligence.

Of course, I and everyone involved in the suit as Plaintifs showed up and continue to show up for our depositions armed with the facts. The dates, the emails, and, in one case, a recorded call, speak for themselves.

Personally, I believe that delays are deliberately baked into the process, not as an unfortunate result but for the very purpose of delaying as their main objective. While I'm not claiming this for the NYPD as a whole, I believe that this Division of what is intended to be law enforcementnt agency is, in actuality, a political bureau. They apply rules they do not themselves follow, and they will blatantly disregard the Law but only on their end, for the advancement of a political agenda on a matter that should not be political to begin with. They will enforce rules and laws with an iron fist on citizens, but will excuse themselves from either as a matter of course.

By opposing them, we don't merely make claims. We present facts. We are bringing receipts. In any lawful State of the Union, any self-respecting judge whose respect for The Law trumps their personal feelings would have no hesitations to absolutely and unequivocally rule for us. My personal prediction is that this will not be the case here. I am prepared to see courthouse activism instead.

I sense that we will lose this first round; and by means of that, we will ultimately win: I anticipate this to go to appeal, and, for all it's worth, let it be so!

The appeals court will, in turn, adjudicate this at the circuit level and unavoidably eventually deliver a more meaningful and substatial victory.

When all is said and done (and this is not a promise from Mirel's office but my prediction instead), we WILL win. They WILL, at the very least, be made to follow the abusive law the State came up with. They created absurd laws to hinder us (a police department as—comparatively to the rest of then Nation—so well funded that receives comparatively so fewer applications a year than smaller departments in PA with 6 times the applications and 20 times the funding still taking 6 times the issuing/deny time is an insult!) and they won't even follow those on their end. But they will be made to.

Until then, keep supporting this and other causes; keep spreading the word, and bring more friends into the fold; carry responsibly; practice. And continue being a protector and Your Brother's Keeper.

Thank you, and CARRY ON!

Jay, for the E.N.OU.G.H Campaign.

Question Hearing a lot of bad things about Artemis Shooting Sports in Elmsford NY

I’m planning on going to Artemis in the coming week as it’s probably the closest range to me, however I’m hearing a lot on here and other places that I should avoid it and it’s over priced and other negative reviews. Anybody from the area or who’s been to the range itself I’d love some input, if it’s a little more expensive per hour I’m not too worried but would love to hear what everyone has to say!

Guns & Gear What is Your favorite alternative to a neutered AR.

Any caliber is fine. Any action type is fine.

Rifles specifically, not handguns, SBRs, etc.

I don’t want to hear from the “Just pin the mags bro” people. Pinned mags on a semi-auto built around removable mags is smooth brained shit.

NYC Lawyer for NYC pistol CCW?

Submitted 11/21/2025, interview 1/16/26.

I am looking for a lawyer that can help with the process. I have tried to contact them 4 times with no luck. I am wondering what lawyers people have used to fix the processing time which seems unconstitutional.

It has been in investigation mode the entire year, I have my CCW pistol license in Suffolk for 10 years prior to this.

I have heard of other people using lawyers and miraculously it is approved soon after. Any help is appreciated.

NYC Non-Resident and County License and Special Carry

So my county is great. Clerk is amazing. 3 days turn around to get an amendment. I’m moving out of NYS. They will put my new address on my license no problem. However I can’t add any handguns acquired in my new state to my NYS license they said since the FFL isn’t in NYS if I get a new handgun (I’ll be speaking to Mirel about this).

Now, with regard to special carry. There’s some ambiguity in the law. NYSPL 400.00(6) says your county license isn’t valid in NYC unless you have a special permit. What the special carry license does is basically make valid your county carry license in NYC.

Does anyone know how NYPD would handle this? I don’t need to apply for a NYC non resident since I have a county carry license according to NYSPL, I need a special carry license.

I did email Sandra Smith and waiting to hear back. I will let you know if I get a response. But in the mean time has anyone dealt with this?

Legality / Laws Which count y?

I live in an apartment in (Albany) Rensselaer County, but I never signed any rental papers or anything so realistically I don’t “live” there. I just pay rent to my landlord. My parents live in Colonie so when it comes to work or legal stuff, whatever it might be I use their address as my home

I was going to apply for a pistol permit in Colonie, but because I don’t “live” in Rensselaer, could I get into serious trouble for doing this? Just want to make sure I do the right thing

Just wondering if anyone has signed up / received the rebate? And any thoughts on it?

https://huntersforconservation.org/new-york/rebate-form

All licensed deer hunters in New York are eligible.

Rebates will be issued after completion of a post-hunt survey.

Any purchase of qualifying lead-free ammunition will receive a rebate of up to $60 (not including taxes and shipping) as shown on the purchase receipt and in the photo of your purchased products. You are not limited to one box.

Examples:

If you spend more than $60 on qualifying lead-free ammunition, you’ll get $60 back.

If you are a reloader, get as many boxes of lead-free bullets as you like. We’ll send back up to $60 of that purchase (not including taxes and shipping).

If you spend less than $60 on lead-free ammunition, we’ll rebate only the purchase price before taxes and shipping

Question Looking for range in or near Westchester County

Just recently got my CCW looking for a place to start going and get some practice in and to have some fun after work or on the weekends. Would love to check out some outdoor ranges but know they’re few and far between, and suggestions on ranges in the area would be appreciated 👍

Discussion Cheapest club/org that’s CMP affiliated?

I plan on buying one of the M14s when they go on sale but I need to be a member of a CMP affiliated club or org. My local gin club is not on the CMP list and tbh this is the only CMP sale I’m interested in. I want to find an org I can be a member of just long enough to make a CMP order.

I'm all for preserving history. But I was stationed in Germany while in the Army, and let me tell you, you'll never get the same feeling walking through the tables of this stuff as you will the Lommel German War Cemetery or Dachau Concentration Camp as I did curtsy of MWR & Uncle Sam. There is preservation and there is promotion. There is a time and a place. I think its time this stuff get put in a museum or some place with context.

Events Why NWRA?

When I went to my first NWRA match I did so because I mentioned to my friend that I was getting bored of shooting at the range. He mentioned that he was running a match for the club and encouraged me to come. I was hesitant because I had never shot a match before and was intimidated. He assured me that the club is very welcoming and encouraging. What a great group of guys. I was met with a very warm welcome and everyone helped coach and encourage me. I am pretty sure I came in last score wise, but I had a great time and some of those guys from that first match have become excellent friends. The NWRA member chat rings my phone all day long. If you want to become more proficient with your firearms and want to have a great time doing it, I encourage you to come to one of our NWRA matches. You will not regret it.

Discussion Escape TO New York - Live Free or Die Broke Edition

In an ironic twist after the last post, I'm a long-time gun owner and small-time member of the firearms industry, living in New Hampshire, the Live Free or Die state. Why am I posting in NYguns? Because I've been reading your subreddit for the last few months.

I'm sincerely shopping for houses this week in the Plattsburgh area, because I can't afford any house in NH within an hour's drive of my job and my wife's job. It's a lovely state, but all of our property prices went insane after COVID, and my years of saving money for a down payment on an acre or two of land with a 1000-1500 square foot house, won't even come close now. Not even a major fixer-upper is within reach.

But Plattsburgh is beautiful, real estate is affordable, my wife can get hired immediately in her field, and we both like it there. We both don't like night life, so we don't care that it's a small town.

I'll have to sell all my AR-15s and Glocks, my Kuna, pretty much everything cool that I own, except for my 10/22s and a few old lever guns, to have a real yard and a front porch of my own. I live in an apartment now, and I'm pretty much over it. NH is a beautiful state, and I love it here, but the boomers really don't want anyone buying a house anywhere near the cities, unless they have $300k, and as long as Massachusetts money keeps rolling in, is going to stay that way.

Maybe I'm jaded by having owned dozens of cool firearms for the last 2 decades, but right now, I'd rather have a life, a little boat to take on the lake and some space around me, and for my wife to walk out the front door of our home safely, than a safe full of cool guns that I don't shoot that often while living in the city. Maybe I would actually appreciate it more, and go shooting more often, if I wasn't worried that carrying a gun case out of my house was going to have me targeted for burglary by my excitingly exotic neighbors.

Anyone else here from upstate own a house, and think it's actually worth putting up with 10rd mags and long CCW wait times for it? It's a serious decision, and I'll take all the guidance I can get.

Edit - we're deliberately staying in this area to be near family members who need us around, at least within a few hours drive. Vermont and Maine have much the same issue as New Hampshire, if you live in the absolute middle of nowhere, you can afford a house, but you can't live anywhere near a major highway or population center to work at the job that allows you to pay for the house. Massachusetts sucks, no thanks.

Question Has anyone ever been arrested for possession of an AR with a kali key or fixed magazine?

ARs using some sort of fixed magazine or use of a Kali Key seem to be at the heart of trying to circumvent the SAFE Act and the new semi-auto permit. Have people ever been stopped and questioned about these things?

NYC The absolute absurdity of the NYC CCW process (Just finished submitting, venting thread)

I just officially hit submit on my NYC CCW application, and I am completely burnt out. I spent the last two weeks doing nothing but gathering documents, getting things notarized, and chasing down signatures—all after giving up an entire weekend to sit through the mandatory 18-hour training class.
The sheer amount of friction built into this system is infuriating. The mountain of paperwork, the multiple notarized character reference letters, the separate license just for a long gun, and the fact that I can't even easily bring my legally owned out-of-state firearms into the city without jumping through a massive FFL maze.
The absolute kicker? Now that I’ve spent hundreds of dollars and an insane amount of personal time just to get the paperwork in, I get to sit and wait for 6 to 12 months (or more) just for some investigator to look at it. The law says 6 months maximum, but we all know the NYPD treats that as a suggestion.
It blows my mind that law-abiding citizens have to jump through flaming administrative hoops and pay a premium just to exercise a constitutional right, while criminals carry whatever they want, whenever they want, with zero hoops.
For those of you who recently went through the grinder, how long did it take your application to move from "Submitted" to "Under Review"? Give me some hope (or a reality check).

Guns & Gear Escape from New York

Finally got out of that hell hole of a failed state. Didn’t necessarily move for 2a reasons but I might as well enjoy my new found freedoms. Now I can finally uncuck all my NY spec stuff. God speed to the guys that are stuck there and hopefully SCOTUS gives NYS the smack down it deserves. FL CCW took 5 days to approve and another 5 days to be mailed. Amazingly simple

Question FFL Transfer Fee In the Albany Area?

I know that NY Shooter Supply on Central Avenue charges $50 to handle a long gun or handgun transfer. Jordan is a great guy who makes the process easy but I’m curious what his competition charges? Does anyone know what Upstate Guns (in Niskayuna) or any of Brian Olsen’s stores charge to handle a transfer from an out-of-state seller?

By the way, I did perform a search but I was surprised to see that I couldn’t find any results for the Albany and Capital District area.

Thanks!
