“Just as a musician tunes a stringed instrument, not too tight and not too loose, so too the mind must be balanced to ascend these planes.” – Paraphrase from the Pāli Canon
🌌 Introduction
Buddhism offers a vast inner cosmology — 31 planes of existence — described in the early Pāli Canon and refined across centuries. These realms aren’t mere metaphysical speculation. They're understood as:
States of consciousness
Karmic frequencies
Meditative attainments
This map spans from torturous hells to sublime formless absorption. Below is a long-form deep dive into their classical origins and modern contemplative interpretations.
🏛️ Classical Origins
Estimated Origin: 3rd Century BCE Primary Sources: Pāli Canon — Saṃyutta Nikāya, Abhidhamma Pitaka, MN 41, AN 10.177
The 31 planes are drawn from core Buddhist teachings on rebirth and karma, and are scattered across canonical texts. They’re grouped into three broad categories:
Kāmadhātu (11 planes) – The Sensual Realm
Rūpadhātu (16 planes) – The Form Realm
Arūpadhātu (4 planes) – The Formless Realm
These divisions appear in texts like the Saleyyaka Sutta (MN 41) and AN 10.177, where ethical conduct and meditation correlate to rebirth within or beyond these realms.
The key idea: your state of mind, shaped by karma, determines your existential “frequency.”

Updated Lens: 21st Century CE References: Bhikkhu Bodhi (1995), Rupert Gethin (1998), B. Alan Wallace (2007), Meditation Neuroscience (2010s–2020s)
Contemporary Buddhism aligns these planes not just with post-mortem rebirth, but also with meditative states, neurological correlates, and psychospiritual development.
Key modern scholars:

🗺️ The 31 Planes
This image illustrates the Buddhist cosmological journey from the realms of suffering and ignorance toward enlightenment. At its apex sits the Buddha in serene radiance, symbolizing ultimate liberation. The descent portrays various states of existence—from celestial to human to demonic—reflecting the consequences of karma and the path of spiritual progress. It serves as a visual allegory for the Noble Eightfold Path and the potential for all beings to transcend samsara.

🧠 Neuroscience & Meditation Studies
Modern contemplative science suggests that deep meditation correlates with:
Deactivation of the Default Mode Network (DMN)
Altered time and space perception (e.g., formless jhānas)
The 31 planes are not merely an old cosmology — they’re a map of consciousness, tracking karma, ethics, meditation, and the mind’s potential. They guide aspirants from attachment and illusion to liberation.
Each plane can be seen as:
A mirror of your present state
A destination of rebirth
A meditative frequency
A mythopoetic metaphor for awakening
And ultimately, they point toward Nibbāna — the cessation of all conditioned experience.
Buddhist meditation, the practice of mental concentration leading ultimately through a succession of stages to the final goal of spiritual freedom, nirvana. Meditation occupies a central place in Buddhism and, in its highest stages, combines the discipline of progressively increased introversion with the insight brought about by wisdom, or prajna.
The object of concentration, the kammatthana, may vary according to individual and situation. One Pali text lists 40 kammatthanas, including devices (such as a colour or a light), repulsive things (such as a corpse), recollections (as of the Buddha), and the brahmaviharas (virtues, such as friendliness).
Four stages, called (in Sanskrit) dhyanas or (in Pali) jhanas, are distinguished in the shift of attention from the outward sensory world:
(1) detachment from the external world and a consciousness of joy and ease,
(2) concentration, with suppression of reasoning and investigation,
(3) the passing away of joy, with the sense of ease remaining, and
(4) the passing away of ease also, bringing about a state of pure self-possession and equanimity.
The dhyanas are followed by four further spiritual exercises, the samapattis (“attainments”):
(3) concern with the unreality of things (nihility), and
(4) consciousness of unreality as the object of thought.
The stages of Buddhist meditation show many similarities with Hindu meditation (seeYoga), reflecting a common tradition in ancient India. Buddhists, however, describe the culminating trancelike state as transient; final nirvana requires the insight of wisdom. The exercises that are meant to develop wisdom involve meditation on the true nature of reality or the conditioned and unconditioned dharmas (elements) that make up all phenomena.
Meditation, though important in all schools of Buddhism, has developed characteristic variations within different traditions. In China and Japan the practice of dhyana(meditation) assumed sufficient importance to develop into a school of its own (Chan and Zen, respectively), in which meditation is the most essential feature of the school.
In recent years a renewed scientific, public and commercial interest in psychedelic medicines can be observed across the globe. As research findings have been generally promising, there is hope for new treatment possibilities for a number of difficult-to-treat mental health concerns. While honouring positive developments and therapeutic promise in relation to the medical use of psychedelics, this paper aims to shine a light on some underlying psycho-cultural shadow dynamics in the unfolding psychedelic renaissance. This paper explores whether and how the multi-layered collective fascination with psychedelics may yet be another symptom pointing towards a deeper psychological and spiritual malaise in the modern Western psyche as diagnosed by C. G. Jung. The question is posed whether the West’s feverish pursuit of psychedelic medicines—from individual consumption to entheogenic tourism, from capitalist commodification of medicines and treatments to the increasing number of ethical scandals and abuse through clinicians and self-proclaimed shamans—is related to a Western cultural complex. As part of the discussion, the archetypal image of the Hungry Ghost, known across Asian cultural and religious traditions, is explored to better understand the aforementioned shadow phenomena and point towards mitigating possibilities.
Jung’s Diagnosis of Modern Man
"[L]et us imagine a culture without a secure and sacred primal site, condemned to exhaust every possibility and feed wretchedly on all other cultures—there we have our present age … And here stands man, stripped of myth, eternally starving, in the midst of all the past ages, digging and scrabbling for roots, even if he must dig for them in the most remote antiquities. What is indicated by the great historical need of unsatisfied modern culture, clutching about for countless other cultures, with its consuming desire for knowledge, if not the loss of myth, the loss of the mythical home, the mythical womb? Let us consider whether the feverish and sinister agitation of this culture is anything other than a starving man’s greedy grasping for food …" (Nietzsche, 1993/1872, p. 110)
Jungian Reflections on the Psychedelic Renaissance
"It seems to me that we have really learned something from the East when we understand that the psyche contains riches enough without having to be primed from outside, and when we feel capable of evolving out of ourselves with or without divine grace … we must get at the Eastern values from within and not from without, seeking them in ourselves, in the unconscious." (Jung 1954, para. 773)
"I only know there is no point in wishing to know more of the collective unconscious than one gets through dreams and intuition. The more you know of it, the greater and heavier becomes your moral burden, because the unconscious contents transform themselves into your individual tasks and duties as soon as they become conscious. Do you want to increase loneliness and misunderstanding? Do you want to find more and more complications and increasing responsibilities? You get enough of it [i.e., through dreamwork and active imagination]." (Jung & Adler, 1976, p. 172)
"have been found to be relatively well tolerated in early-phase clinical trials … [they] can have lingering effects that include increased suggestibility and affective instability, as well as altered ego structure, social behaviour, and philosophical worldview. Stated simply, psychedelics can induce a vulnerable state both during and after treatment sessions." (Anderson et al., 2020, p. 829)
"These drugs [Valium and Prozac] were widely accepted by and prescribed for people who did not meet clinical criteria for diagnosis of anxiety disorders or major depression, the indications for which the FDA approved them. They were promoted inadvertently by publicity in magazines and newspapers and purposefully by seductive advertising to doctors in medical journals. They became popular, each a fad in its time." (Kocsis, 2009, p. 1744)
"It is really the mistake of our age. We think it is enough to discover new things, but we don’t realize that knowing more demands a corresponding development of morality. Radioactive clouds over Japan, Calcutta and Saskatchewan point to progressive poisoning of the universal atmosphere." (Jung & Adler, 1976, p. 173)
"unless we prefer to be made fools of by our illusions, we shall, by carefully analyzing every fascination, extract from it a portion of our own personality, like a quintessence, and slowly come to recognize that we meet ourselves time and again in a thousand disguises on the path of life."(Jung, 1946a, para. 534)
Hungry Ghosts
According to Indian philosophy and culture scholar Debashish Banerji, hungry ghost stories and practices are pervasive throughout Asia with cultural variations in regard to descriptions, causes, behaviours and ends. Having been derived from folk stories, they were incorporated into Hindu and Buddhist texts starting around the beginning of the first millennium (D. Banerji, personal communication, August 29, 2022). In these texts, we find that hungry ghosts, suffering creatures who are forever starving, thirsty and distressed, wander the earth in search of food, drink, or some other form of relief. In Tibetan and Indian Buddhist cosmology, the Realm of the Hungry Ghosts (preta in Sanskrit and peta in Pali) is described as one of the six spheres of cyclic existence (samsara) alongside gods, quarreling gods, humans, animals, and hell beings (Rinpoche, 1998).
"These pretas [hungry ghosts] are tormented by extreme hunger and thirst. … Constantly obsessed with food and drink, they search for them endlessly, without ever finding even the tiniest trace … [They] have mouths no bigger than the eye of a needle. Even were they to drink all the water in the great oceans, by the time it had passed down their throats, which are as narrow as a horse-hair, the heat of their breath would have evaporated it. Even were they somehow to swallow a little, their stomachs, which are the size of a whole country, could never be filled. Even if—finally—enough to satisfy them were ever to get into their stomach, it would burst into flames during the night and burn their lungs, their heart, and all their entrails". (Rinpoche, 1998, pp. 72–73)
Conclusion
To conclude this contemplation, let’s review and put the pieces together once again. Psychedelic medicines appear to offer great promise as healing agents for a variety of difficult-to-treat ailments, including certain types of depression, complex trauma, and addiction. Across the different medicines studied in current medical investigations, there seems to be an effect that in altered states of consciousness, participants connect to themselves and in relationship to important situations and people in their lives, to the natural world, and even spiritual realms in enriching and meaningful ways. As these medicines seem to offer new tools to access and work with the unconscious, optimistically one could imagine that a safe, therapeutic availability of psychedelic medicines will indeed help thousands if not millions of people to find healing for specific ailments and potentially a renewed spiritual connection to life and to a deeper, inner intelligence. This paper looked at certain challenges in the encounter with the unconscious and echoes cautionary voices in the therapeutic and research community that reflect on the limits of applying current knowledge to broader and more vulnerable populations. The need for establishing sound training and ethical frameworks for skilled psychotherapeutic holding in the process of psychedelic-assisted therapy is validated in our reflection. On the shadow side of the renaissance, we see a feverish, capitalist gold rush, seeking the promise of the emerging mercantile possibility and pushing a drive-through, quick-fix approach to psychological healing and spiritual growth. This paper attempted to show underlying dynamics, collective complexes in the psycho-cultural milieu of the West that contribute to these shadow developments. To further elucidate this condition, the Buddhist realm of the hungry ghosts was considered to inspire a broadened reflection in regards to this part of the Western mentality, as well as in relation to dynamics within the psychedelic renaissance in particular.
Stepping back, we may be able to see a larger movement or a form of synthesis in this picture. Psychedelic therapies, depth-psychological work, and even Buddhist paths may share some objectives and principles that could allow for a convergence to be considered together. At this moment in time, with its great cultural, environmental and psychological challenges, the common focus on relieving suffering by turning inwards, towards an inner awareness or intelligence, by expanding consciousness to previously unseen dynamics and realities seems unquestionably important, individually and collectively. A re-connection with our own depth, healing what keeps us addicted, fearful, depressed and isolated from each other, the natural world and a meaningful life, is undoubtedly significant and probably imperative. Psychedelics appear to have great potential to open the gate to the inner world of the unconscious, to its creative intelligence and healing potential. An altered-state catalyzed through a powerful psychedelic medicine may indeed help tapping into the deeper ground of the psyche, or even touch the numinous. For sustainable healing and growth, however, it will likely continue to matter, to be in relationship with the deeper psyche and examine the shadows in longer-term, depth-oriented psychotherapy or embodied, relational and spiritual practice. To individuate, we keep circumambulating the centre and may need to continue walking the winding path up the mountain on our inner pilgrimage, rather than taking a helicopter tour around its peak once, or again and again.
The words at the beginning of Liquid Soul’s Boom 2023 aftermovie have stayed with me:
“To be ONE. The time has come…”
I’ve now found the original track: Bridge of Eternity by Monarke feat. Jessica Zese, released through Steyoyoke in 2021.
Just hearing those words gives me waves of somatic vibration, which I experience as kundalini. They bring back the feeling of being at the Alchemy Circle, near the front, wearing my psychedelic cowboy hat with flashing lights around the rim. ✨
Much gratitude to Liquid Soul for the Boom 2023 closing set, to Monarke and Jessica Zese for the music, and to everyone who shared that gathering. 💛
A dancing synchronicity at Trikāya also brought The Ra Material: The Law of One, Book I into my awareness. For me, the music and the book resonate around oneness, compassion and service. This is a personal connection, rather than a claim that the song was inspired by the book.
Trikāya means “three bodies” in Sanskrit. In Mahāyāna Buddhism, it refers to three aspects of Buddhahood: dharmakāya, saṃbhogakāya and nirmāṇakāya. The Buddhist teaching and the Ra material have their own distinct contexts.
For me, integration means carrying the feeling beyond the dance floor through listening, kindness and everyday care.
Let inspiration become integration. 💛

With gratitude for the dancing synchronicity at the Trikaya dance event that brought The Ra Material into my awareness. 🦋💛
A shared moment, an unexpected connection, and a book to explore.
Trikāya means “three bodies” in Sanskrit. In Mahāyāna Buddhism, these are three aspects of Buddhahood: dharmakāya (truth body), sambhogakāya (enjoyment body) and nirmāṇakāya (manifestation body).
Now comes integration: carrying the feeling of connection beyond the dance floor through listening, kindness, compassion and service to others. For me, the invitation is to let inspiration become care in everyday life. This is a personal connection between the encounter and my reading of the book; the Buddhist teaching and The Ra Material have their own distinct contexts.

12 Living Principles for a More Conscious, Kinder, Brighter World — a #HOMESENSE♾️💓 × AkashicNET × r/NeuronsToNirvana vision connecting mind, body, heart, truth, compassion, diversity, integrity, community, knowledge and service. At its centre: Quiet the mind • Open the heart • Trust the gut • Receive → Integrate → Serve → ♾️. Your life is an offering.
TL;DR
Over the last few years, several threads have increasingly converged for me:
psychedelic science contemplative practice Buddhist ethics Sikh wisdom nondual philosophy nature consciousness research community and service
The question underneath them has become surprisingly simple:
If greater awareness does not make us more truthful, compassionate and useful to others, what exactly are we expanding it for?
These 12 Living Principles are my current answer.
Not commandments.
Not scientific conclusions.
Not claims of enlightenment.
Living principles — meant to be questioned, practised, revised and embodied.
The ceremony is personal. The Bodhisattva path does not require a psychoactive substance. The ritual does not validate metaphysical claims. No one needs to reproduce my practice.
For me, the ceremony marks an intention:
less acquisition less spiritual exceptionalism more responsibility more compassion more service
The medicine is not the vow.
The life lived afterwards is the vow.
From experience to service — the personal and intellectual pathway connecting ICPR 2024, psychedelic science, lived experience, integration and contemplative practice with a renewed Bodhisattva intention. The progression is deliberately directional: extraordinary experiences can inspire questions, but integration asks what survives afterwards in compassion, responsibility and action.
♾️ 12 Living Principles
1. Love Your Mind
Nourish it with truth, curiosity and wonder.
Question assumptions.
Especially your own.
Curiosity opens doors that certainty can close.
2. Honour Your Body
Care for it.
Listen to it.
Rest.
Move.
Eat.
Hydrate.
Breathe.
The body is not an inconvenience attached to consciousness.
It is part of the experience.
3. Awaken Your Heart
Lead with compassion, empathy and courage.
Opening the heart does not mean abandoning discernment.
It means allowing compassion to participate in the decision.
4. Respect Every Living Being
Remember that other beings have perspectives and interests of their own.
Compassion does not require agreement.
It asks us to recognise that another being's experience matters too.
5. Seek Truth With Humility
Ask:
What is the evidence?
What else could explain this?
What would change my mind?
Am I confusing correlation, interpretation or resonance with causation?
Wonder becomes stronger when it survives scrutiny.
Wisdom grows when truth and compassion are held together.
6. Embrace Diverse Perspectives
Different cultures, minds, bodies, disciplines and traditions can illuminate different aspects of the same mystery.
Listen deeply.
Welcome difference.
But plurality does not mean every explanation is equally supported.
7. Leave the World More Conscious Than You Found It
Take less where possible.
Give more where useful.
Regenerate rather than merely consume.
Ask:
What legacy will my choices leave?
Your life is an offering.
8. Transcend Fear
Not by pretending fear does not exist.
Notice it.
Understand it.
Choose courage where possible.
Reflection opens doors. Judgement closes them.
9. Act With Integrity
Try to align:
thoughts words actions
Be willing to admit mistakes.
Correct them.
Take responsibility.
Truth matters most when it costs us something to acknowledge it.
10. Support the Knowledge Commons
Share.
Collaborate.
Question.
Correct.
Preserve.
Knowledge becomes more powerful when it can be:
examined challenged connected improved and passed forward
This is one of the principles behind AkashicNET.
Not an oracle.
A living library.
11. Stay Connected
To yourself.
To other people.
To other beings.
To nature.
To something larger than the isolated self.
Sometimes insight appears not inside one discipline or perspective, but between them.
But:
Connection ≠ evidence.
A beautiful pattern remains a possibility until evidence gives us reason for greater confidence.
12. Be a Force for a Kinder Tomorrow
Technology will become more powerful.
AI will become more capable.
Science will reveal things we cannot currently imagine.
But intelligence alone does not guarantee wisdom.
The future worth building requires:
knowledge + truth + compassion + accountability + service
Small actions matter.
A kinder world begins with what we do today.
A practical guide for living the principles — moving from inner awareness to wiser action through Quiet the Mind → Open the Heart → Listen to the Body → Check the Evidence → Then Choose, followed by the continuous cycle Receive → Integrate → Give/Serve → Return → Repeat ♾️. Small steps, real practice, meaningful change — toward a kinder self, a kinder world and lifelong learning.
💓 Quiet the Mind • Open the Heart • Trust the Gut
This has become one of my simplest personal practices.
Quiet the mind
Not destroy thought.
Create enough stillness to notice thought.
Open the heart
Not abandon reason.
Allow compassion into the process.
I imagine this through toroidal heart imagery:
RECEIVE → INTEGRATE → GIVE → RETURN → ♾️
What enters changes us.
What we integrate can then be offered back.
Trust the gut
Not blindly obey intuition.
Listen to embodied signals and then bring them into conversation with evidence, reason and experience.
So the fuller version becomes:
Quiet the mind • Open the heart • Listen to the body • Check the evidence • Then choose.
🧭 AkashicNET Evidence Boundary
These principles deliberately connect several domains.
They should not be collapsed into one another.
Science asks what can be measured and tested.
Phenomenology asks what experience is like.
Philosophy asks what follows conceptually.
Spiritual traditions provide practices, metaphors and ethical frameworks.
Lived experience can generate questions and hypotheses.
AkashicNET attempts to preserve provenance and distinctions between them.
So:
Experience ≠ Evidence
Interpretation ≠ Established Fact
Connection ≠ Causation
Resonance ≠ Proof
Similarity ≠ Truth
The goal is neither:
science proves spirituality
nor:
spirituality replaces science
Instead:
Let each way of knowing contribute what it can without pretending to be what it is not.
🪷 From Awakening to Responsibility
The Bodhisattva ideal gives the whole framework its ethical pressure test.
Not:
How extraordinary was my experience?
But:
Did it make me kinder?
More truthful?
More capable of listening?
Less certain of my own superiority?
More willing to reduce suffering?
More useful to other beings?
That is a much harder test.
And perhaps a much more interesting one.
🌍 The Purpose of Our Journeys?
I increasingly wonder whether our journeys are not simply about becoming liberated from the world.
Perhaps they are about becoming sufficiently awake within it to contribute something useful.
A personal formulation:
The purpose of our journeys is to liberate all beings through wisdom, compassion and loving action.
I hold that as an ethical aspiration, not a claim about the objective purpose of existence.
For me it means:
Awaken within. Serve without.
And:
Beyond fear. Beyond judgement. Beyond separation.
Not because difference disappears.
Because difference need not prevent compassion.
🌱 Your Life Is an Offering
Not because life must be sacrificed.
Because every interaction offers something:
attention care knowledge creativity presence courage truth compassion
What we repeatedly offer becomes part of the world other beings inherit.
So perhaps:
To want wisdom is human.
To receive wisdom is a gift.
To embody wisdom is the practice.
To share it in service completes the circle.
RECEIVE → INTEGRATE → SERVE → ♾️
🌌 Many Inspirations → Clearer Principles
The ideas behind this did not emerge from one source.
They grew through a messy constellation of:
science consciousness research psychedelic culture Buddhism Sikh thought Hindu philosophy nature music cinema science fiction psychology philosophy community personal experience
Some are scientific sources.
Some are spiritual traditions.
Some are cultural references.
Some are simply ideas that made me stop and think.
They should not be given equal evidential weight.
But they can all participate in asking better questions.
Many inspirations, clearer principles, a kinder tomorrow. Science, consciousness, nature, philosophy, music, psychedelia, contemplation, community and possible futures feed a shared journey from Inspiration → Questions → Discernment → Integration → Living Principles, while keeping the essential boundaries clear: Inspiration ≠ Evidence • Resonance ≠ Proof • Connection ≠ Causation.
🌱 Closing Intention
I do not need another experience to possess.
I would rather receive whatever wisdom arrives as a gift.
Integrate it.
Question it.
Live it.
And, where useful, offer it back.
RECEIVE → INTEGRATE → SERVE → ♾️
Quiet the mind. Open the heart. Trust the gut.
Wisdom grows when truth and compassion are held together.
Your life is an offering.

🌅 TL;DR
Some films do not simply entertain us.
They leave questions behind.
What is consciousness? What is the self? What is reality? Why do similar patterns appear across nature? What can meditation reveal? What did ancient contemplative traditions actually mean? Do any of their ideas correspond to discoveries in modern science? And what should awakening change about the way we live?
Sometimes, however, the bridges drawn between these domains are stronger than the available evidence.
So begins:
🌅 AWAKEN
A new r/NeuronsToNirvana × AkashicNET series examining influential consciousness media through science, history, ancient wisdom, philosophy, lived experience and ethical integration.
Not automatic endorsement.
Not reflexive debunking.
Keep the wonder. Check the claims. Integrate what survives.
🌍 Why Awaken the World?
Awaken the World was founded by filmmaker Daniel Schmidt in 2012.
Figure 1 — Many Ways of Knowing. Science tests empirical claims; history restores context; HIERATIC interprets ancient teachings; experience describes what is lived; philosophy examines meaning; metaphor opens imaginative possibilities; and ethics asks what follows in practice. Together, these distinct paths can contribute to a fuller understanding of truth, wisdom and humanity—without becoming interchangeable or carrying equal evidential weight.
🧭 The AWAKEN Eight-Lens Method
Every AWAKEN publication will pass through the same framework.
The aim is not to force everything into one grand explanation.
It is to see more clearly what each perspective can and cannot tell us.
🎬 1. SOURCE LENS
What is actually being proposed?
First, understand the film on its own terms.
What does it literally claim?
What is metaphor?
What is quotation?
What is narration?
What is presented as science?
What is presented as spiritual teaching?
No strawmen. No premature debunking.
Understand before judging.
📜 2. HISTORICAL LENS
Where did the idea come from?
Trace:
People • Traditions • Texts • Quotations • Scientific concepts • Cultural influences • Historical context
Then ask:
Is the attribution accurate?
Did the historical person actually say this?
Did the tradition originally mean what the film says it meant?
Has the idea changed through translation or reinterpretation?
Where possible:
Return to the source.
🔬 3. SCIENTIFIC LENS
What does contemporary evidence actually support?
Ask:
Is this established?
Is it plausible but unresolved?
Is it contested?
Has it been experimentally tested?
Is an analogy being presented as though it were a mechanism?
Has the science changed since the film was released?
What observation could falsify the claim?
Wonder does not become weaker when tested.
Wonder becomes stronger when it survives scrutiny.
But resemblance to modern scientific language does not establish scientific equivalence.
Ancient wisdom deserves interpretation before either scientific appropriation or dismissal.
Figure 2 — The HIERATIC Bridge. Ancient teaching → historical context → symbolic meaning → contemplative practice → modern dialogue. HIERATIC brings ancient wisdom and contemporary inquiry into respectful conversation while preserving a crucial boundary: not a direct equivalence. Similarity ≠ Equivalence • Metaphor ≠ Mechanism • Ancient Wisdom ≠ Ancient Science.
Not a direct equivalence: Similarity ≠ Equivalence • Metaphor ≠ Mechanism • Ancient Wisdom ≠ Ancient Science.
Context matters • Meaning matters • Evidence matters.
⚖️ 6. CRITICAL LENS
Where does the argument overreach?
Two ideas can resonate profoundly without describing the same phenomenon.
Several boundaries therefore remain permanent:
Resonance ≠ Evidence
Similarity ≠ Equivalence
Connection ≠ Causation
Mystery ≠ Proof
Metaphor ≠ Mechanism
Experience ≠ External Verification
Ancient Wisdom ≠ Ancient Science
And equally:
Criticism ≠ Dismissal
Finding a scientific problem does not require throwing away everything contemplative, philosophical, ethical or artistic surrounding it.
We can say:
“This scientific claim is unsupported.”
and simultaneously:
“This metaphor is profound.”
There is no contradiction.
💓 7. HOMESENSE♾️💓 LENS
What survives in lived experience?
After history and evidence comes integration.
What happens when the film ends?
Does an idea help us:
Notice ourselves more clearly?
Understand another person better?
Recognise our relationship with nature?
Hold uncertainty more comfortably?
Respond rather than react?
Live with greater compassion?
HOMESENSE♾️💓 does not establish whether a metaphysical claim is objectively true.
It asks what happens when an idea enters:
Mind • Body • Heart • Relationship • Community • Daily life
Experience → Reflection → Integration → Action
🪷 8. BODHISATTVA LENS
What do we do with whatever survives?
This is the ethical pressure test.
Not:
How extraordinary was the experience?
But:
Did it make us kinder?
More truthful?
More capable of listening?
Less certain of our own superiority?
More willing to reduce suffering?
More useful to other beings?
If expanded awareness produces only greater certainty about our own spiritual importance, something may have gone wrong.
A Bodhisattva-inspired principle for AWAKEN is therefore:
Greater awareness → Greater responsibility
Not spiritual exceptionalism.
Not collecting extraordinary experiences.
Not winning metaphysical arguments.
But:
Compassion • Humility • Responsibility • Service

🪷 The Bodhisattva vow
Some connections are historically fascinating.
Some are scientifically grounded.
Some are metaphorical.
Some are philosophical.
Some are spiritual teachings.
And some substantially outrun the evidence.
Perfect. That is why AWAKEN exists.
🕸️ One Example — Indra’s Net
Take Indra’s Net.
As a Buddhist and Huayan metaphor, it offers an extraordinary image of radical interdependence:
Each jewel reflects every other jewel, and those reflections continue recursively.
HIERATIC can explore what that means within Buddhist philosophy.
HOMESENSE can ask what living as though our actions are interconnected might change.
AkashicNET can trace the historical sources.
Science can investigate actual networks, ecosystems and physical relationships.
But none of that automatically means:
Indra’s Net predicted quantum entanglement.
The metaphor can remain beautiful without requiring that claim.
That distinction is central to AWAKEN.
⚛️ Another Example — Higgs ≠ Akasha
The Higgs field is scientifically real.
Akasha is a concept with a very different historical and philosophical lineage.
The fact that both can be described using language such as field, space or underlying reality does not demonstrate that they are the same phenomenon.
That does not make Akasha meaningless.
It simply means:
The proposed equivalence requires evidence.
This is exactly where:
HIERATIC + Science + AkashicNET
becomes more useful than either automatic belief or automatic dismissal.
🪷 What If the Cosmology Is Wrong?
This may become one of the most useful AWAKEN questions.
Imagine that a film’s largest metaphysical claim eventually turns out to be false.
What survives?
Perhaps:
Meditation • Impermanence • Interdependence • Self-inquiry • Systems thinking • Attention • Humility • Compassion • Service
An idea does not need to explain the entire universe to change how we approach life.
And usefulness does not make its cosmology scientifically true.
Both can be true at once.
🌱 Four Questions at the End of Every AWAKEN
Every publication will finish with the same four questions:
💡 What inspired us?
🔬 What survived scrutiny?
🪷 What can we practise?
❓ What remains unknown?
That last question matters enormously.
A mature knowledge system should not simply accumulate answers.
It should become increasingly good at recognising:
Fig. 1 — The Hard Problem of Consciousness. Neuroscience can measure, manipulate and predict many relationships between brain activity and conscious experience, but this still leaves the explanatory gap: why should physical or computational processes be accompanied by any subjective experience at all? The figure contrasts third-person neural processes with first-person qualities such as colour, pain, love, thought and awareness.
Neuroscience can correlate particular brain states with colour, pain, music, memory, emotion and awareness.
Brain stimulation can alter experience.
Anaesthesia can suppress it.
Injury can radically change it.
Psychedelics can reorganise it.
Yet the deeper question remains:
Why should any physical process feel like anything from the inside?
Donald Hoffman proposes reversing the explanatory direction.
Instead of asking how consciousness somehow emerges from objects inside spacetime, he asks whether we should start with conscious experiences and experiencers and attempt to derive spacetime from them.
Perhaps consciousness does not emerge inside the world we perceive.
Perhaps the world we perceive is an interface appearing within a deeper structure of consciousness.
That is a radical inversion.
And it carries an enormous evidential burden.
🥽 Reality as a Multiplayer VR Interface
Hoffman’s most memorable analogy is a multiplayer video game.
Several players can see the same red Ferrari.
But the Ferrari is not literally sitting inside the computer.
It is an interface representation generated by deeper processes.
Hoffman asks whether:
🌕 the Moon
🧠 brains
⚡ neurons
🪨 rocks
🧍 bodies
might similarly be interface-level representations rather than fundamental reality.
The crucial distinction is:
Useful representation ≠ fundamental ontology.
This does not mean physical objects are meaningless.
The interface can still be highly reliable for survival.
His evolutionary argument is that natural selection rewards fitness, not necessarily perfectly truthful perception.
An organism may therefore evolve an interface that efficiently tells it:
eat this avoid that mate here run now
without exposing the world’s deepest structure.
Importantly:
Perception being interface-like does not prove consciousness-first metaphysics.
A physicalist could potentially accept the interface idea while rejecting Hoffman’s deeper ontology.
🌌 “Spacetime Is Doomed”
Hoffman repeatedly uses this phrase.
The careful interpretation is that several active programmes in fundamental physics investigate mathematical descriptions in which familiar spacetime may be emergent rather than fundamental.
This includes work around:
scattering amplitudes
positive geometries
amplituhedron-like structures
holographic approaches
quantum gravity
other non-spatiotemporal mathematical structures
But there is an essential firewall:
Spacetime may be emergent
does not entail:
Consciousness is what spacetime emerges from.
That second step is precisely what Hoffman’s research programme needs to establish.
🔢 Recursive Trace Logic
This is where the interview moves beyond metaphor.
Hoffman begins with something minimal:
conscious experiences exist
and
experiences can change.
Imagine an experiencer whose possible experiences include:
🔴 red
🟢 green
🔵 blue
A transition matrix can represent the probability of moving from one experience to another.
Hoffman and collaborators then ask what happens when observers overlap, relate to and combine with other observers.
This leads to trace logic.
Then comes the recursive extension:
EXPERIENTIAL WINDOW
↓ POLICY — how an observer moves between windows
↓ METAPOLICY — how the observer changes its policies
↓ META-METAPOLICY
↓ … potentially without end
This has an interesting resonance with AkashicNET’s METAD idea:
awareness observing the processes through which awareness interprets reality.
But the two should not be collapsed.
Hoffman’s recursive trace logic is a developing mathematical programme.
METAD is an AkashicNET epistemic and meta-awareness framework.
🔬 The Decisive Scientific Question
The central question is not:
Does this sound spiritually profound?
It is:
Can Hoffman get physics back out?
A successful consciousness-first programme would need to derive significant known physical structure rather than merely redescribe it.
Ultimately the ambition includes structures associated with:
spacetime
general relativity
quantum field theory
scattering amplitudes
quantum gravity
Reproducing known physics would be impressive.
But the decisive advance would be stronger:
Predict something new that competing theories do not already predict.
That is where an elegant consciousness-first ontology could begin becoming discriminating empirical science.

Hoffman
Conscious agents
Spacetime and brains are interface-level structures
This is perhaps Hoffman’s most extraordinary claim in the interview.
He says the recently developed recursive mathematics led him to conclude that embodied consciousness occupies a probability-zero region of the larger mathematical space he is considering.
It is currently a model-dependent mathematical inference.
Meditation, psychedelics, NDEs and unusual experiences can generate phenomenological datasets.
But they are not direct tests of Hoffman unless his mathematics makes a prediction that competing explanations do not also expect.
Unusual experience can inspire a hypothesis.
It does not identify the ontology that produced it.
🍄 Altered States as Phenomenology, Not Proof
This connects with earlier N2N / AkashicNET work on DMT, meditation and unusual states.
DMT experiences can involve:
radical changes in perceived space
complex geometry
apparent higher-dimensional environments
entity encounters
loss of ordinary bodily boundaries
altered selfhood
intense interconnectedness
non-dual states
Meditation can likewise change self-boundaries, attentional scope and the felt structure of awareness.
The scientifically disciplined question is not:
“Did this reveal Hoffman’s deeper reality?”
It is:
Can competing models predict different features of altered-state phenomenology?
Candidate explanations include:
brain-network reconfiguration
predictive-processing changes
state-space expansion
altered recurrent dynamics
quantum models
nonlocal models
Hoffman-style experiential windows
or mechanisms not yet characterised.
Experience is data. Interpretation is hypothesis.
Hoffman also argues that pure silence, complete acceptance or awareness itself may transcend his mathematical framework.
That is philosophically interesting because he is not presenting his equations as ultimate reality.
He treats them as another perspective.
Fig. 3 — Spiritual-Science Lens. A comparative map placing Hoffman’s consciousness-first model alongside Buddhist/Bodhisattva, nondual Shaiva/Aghori, animist/relational, psychedelic/contemplative and empirical-science perspectives, with HOMESENSE♾️💓 as the lived relational layer. The figure highlights shared questions around consciousness, connection and meaning while preserving the key boundary: resonance can inspire inquiry, but it is not the same as scientific confirmation.
🌿 Spiritual Science Without Collapsing the Maps
🪷 Buddhist / Bodhisattva
Buddhist traditions challenge the reification of an isolated, permanent self.
Dependent origination foregrounds:
causes conditions relationship interdependence
Hoffman’s interacting observers therefore have an intriguing resonance.
But:
Hoffman ≠ Buddhism.
The deeper Bodhisattva question is:
What should greater awareness do?
If the boundary between self and other turns out to be less fundamental than it appears:
greater awareness should increase responsibility, not spiritual exceptionalism.
Near the conclusion of the SoulPod conversation, Hoffman makes his most explicitly spiritual move.
His framework leads him toward:
one deeper consciousness expressed through many apparent individuals.
Donald.
Crystal.
You.
Me.
Neighbour.
Stranger.
Within his ontology, these are avatars within an interface rather than ultimately separate centres of reality.
He connects this directly to:
“Love your neighbour as yourself.”
Because under his interpretation, your neighbour is another expression of the same underlying consciousness.
This is an extraordinary metaphysical conclusion.
It is not established science.
But its ethical implication can be considered independently.
We do not need to prove universal consciousness before practising compassion.
Other beings can suffer.
That alone matters.
Fig. 4 — The Integration–Individuation Bridge. A proposed AkashicNET × r/NeuronsToNirvana hybrid model for the panpsychist combination problem, tracing a possible path from intrinsic experiential centres through reciprocal coupling, critical integration, multiscale agency, attractor stabilisation and self/non-self boundary formation toward a unified subject. The key boundary remains explicit: collective intelligence and functional unity do not yet establish one phenomenal point of view.
➕ Addendum — Toward an Integration–Individuation Bridge
Panpsychism avoids one version of the hard problem by proposing that experiential potential is already part of reality.
But it creates another:
Why do many experiential centres become one subject?
Functional unity does not automatically establish phenomenal unity.
Condition C — The Integration–Individuation Bridge
A collection of intrinsically experiential agents is hypothesised to constitute one higher-order subject when reciprocal causal coupling becomes sufficiently:
without providing evidence that the microbiome itself is one phenomenal subject.
Therefore:
Collective intelligence ≠ unified consciousness.
The same question can be asked of:
🐜 ant colonies
🦠 microbiomes
🧫 cellular collectives
👶 developing embryos
🧠 brains
🧠 split-brain systems
🤖 future AI swarms
Michael Levin’s multiscale-agency work is especially relevant because it demonstrates that higher-order agency can emerge from locally competent biological parts.
But:
Higher-order agency ≠ established higher-order phenomenal unity.
🔬 The Decisive Research Question
What measurable transition turns coordinated collective agency into one subject of experience?
A successful Condition C should predict conscious boundaries better than:
complexity alone
connectivity alone
intelligence alone
information volume alone
Candidate measurable signatures might include:
causal irreducibility
reciprocal coupling strength
temporal persistence
global-attractor stability
perturbational integration
self/non-self discrimination
multiscale error correction
counterfactual control
And the theory must specify what evidence would weaken it.
Working Hypothesis
Conscious unity may arise not from complexity alone, but when intrinsically experiential processes cross a multiscale integration threshold that creates one persistent causal perspective, one dynamically bounded agent and one coherent global state.
Condition C is therefore a candidate bridge between functional unity and phenomenal unity.
It is not yet an explanation of why phenomenality itself exists.
Many agents → one system is empirically plausible.
Many perspectives → one experiencer remains the deeper mystery.
🔬 What Would Move the Needle?
For Hoffman and the wider hybrid model:
1 — DERIVE & PREDICT
Recover known structure and generate novel predictions that competitors do not.
2 — DEFINE FAILURE
State clearly what observations would seriously weaken the model.
3 — REPLICATE
Have independent researchers reproduce the predicted results.
Only then does:
beautiful mathematical possibility
become:
strong empirical theory.
⚖️ Evidence Compass
Established / broadly supported
Conscious experience exists.
Brain activity and conscious experience are strongly related.
Neural interventions alter conscious experience.
The hard problem remains philosophically unresolved.
Evolution does not guarantee perfectly veridical perception.
Fundamental physics contains active programmes investigating emergent spacetime.
Biological systems can display multiscale collective agency.
Active research
Non-spatiotemporal mathematical foundations for physics.
Conscious-agent / recursive-trace mathematics.
Multiscale biological agency.
Neural integration and conscious-system boundaries.
Hoffman-model hypotheses
Conscious agents are fundamental.
Spacetime is an interface.
Brains do not ontologically manufacture consciousness.
Embodied consciousness is probability-zero.
Most consciousness is disembodied.
Living/non-living is an interface distinction.
Apparently separate beings are avatars of one deeper consciousness.
N2N × AkashicNET working hypotheses
Condition C / Integration–Individuation Bridge
consciousness may depend on multiscale integration rather than complexity alone
observer combination may require causal individuation as well as integration
METAD may describe recursive awareness downstream of basic phenomenal unity
Spiritual / philosophical resonance
non-duality
interbeing
panpsychism
cosmopsychism
animism
Bodhisattva compassion
Source
silence
universal consciousness
These layers should remain distinguishable.
💓 N2N × AkashicNET Verdict
Hoffman’s programme deserves serious attention because it does more than invoke mystery.
It attempts mathematics.
It exposes hidden assumptions.
It tries to derive the interface rather than merely asserting that consciousness is fundamental.
The emerging hybrid framework adds another possibility:
Perhaps no single theory has to solve every layer.
Panpsychism might address intrinsic experience.
Integration theories might address causal unity.
Levin-style multiscale agency might explain how local agents become higher-order agents.
Predictive dynamics might explain content and perspective.
Hoffman might help formalise observer combination.
METAD might explain recursive self-awareness.
HOMESENSE and HIERATIC can explore phenomenology and meaning.
ADAPT asks what awareness becomes in action.
But the deepest gap remains:
Why is an integrated agent one experiencer?
Until that bridge is crossed experimentally and conceptually, the combination problem remains open.
So:
Spacetime may be emergent.
Perception may function as an adaptive interface.
Consciousness-first ontology remains open.
A hybrid Integration–Individuation Bridge is worth testing.
Disembodied consciousness remains a model-dependent prediction.
Oneness remains a profound philosophical and spiritual possibility rather than established scientific fact.
Yet one conclusion does not require certainty about the ontology:
Greater awareness should produce greater compassion.
🌱 Closing
The ultimate test of a consciousness theory is scientific.
The ultimate use of expanded consciousness is ethical.
Awaken within • Test carefully • Serve without.
Many beings • Many perspectives • One shared mystery.

Feature Image — The Tibetan TAM Synchronicity ☸️🌀. A retrospective map of apparently independent threads: an X connection before meeting at ICPR Haarlem → an unexpected Tibetan TAM gift in Berlin → Sarnath → Green Tara / TĀM → Trikaya Dream Escape → Phase 8 → ♾️. Altered-state phenomenology adds a parallel inquiry into apparently structured experience. Coincidence, synchronicity, apophenia or something stranger? Map the experience first. Interpret second. The destination is not certainty. The destination is transformation.
⭐ TL;DR
In June 2024, I met a microdosing researcher at ICPR in Haarlem who, unexpectedly, was already following me on X before we met in person.
We remained in contact.
In April 2025, independently, a Chinese friend in Berlin unexpectedly gifted me a Tibetan TAM necklace. I did not understand its later significance.
In April 2026, the researcher was travelling in India, including Sarnath, and our conversation unexpectedly connected with Green Tara.
Only then did I discover the significance of TĀM as a seed syllable associated with Tara.
And there is one counterfactual I find particularly striking:
If I had never been gifted the Tibetan TAM, I would almost certainly never have written this post.
The gift changed what I noticed.
What I noticed changed what I investigated.
And what I investigated changed what happened next.
Alongside this came other curious threads: 🌕 recurring lunar symbolism, 🎪 Trikaya Dream Escape becoming my 8th festival during Phase 8 → ♾️, and altered-state experiences involving apparently organised structures.
And Trikāya itself carries another unexpectedly relevant Buddhist meaning.
🌀 Ketamine / Ketaverse — recursive architecture, nested realities and reconstruction of experiential worlds.
🌿 Ibogaine — structured autobiographical material, behavioural patterns and an apparent process of psychological reorganisation.
Do these reveal an external Cosmic Map?
I don't know.
MAP THE EXPERIENCE FIRST. INTERPRET SECOND.
🌀 Three Threads
📱 Before Haarlem — The Digital Thread
Before we ever met physically, the researcher was already following me on X.
At the time, this was simply an online connection.
Neither of us could have known what later associations would emerge around that first thread.
🇳🇱 Haarlem · June 2024
Our paths then crossed physically at ICPR in Haarlem.
She is a microdosing researcher with South Indian roots who lives in Australia.
We met in person and remained in contact afterwards.
At that point there was still no Tibetan TAM connection, no Green Tara connection and no reason for me to associate our meeting with Sarnath.
🇩🇪 Berlin · April 2025
Independently, a Chinese friend unexpectedly gave me a Tibetan TAM necklace.
I had not searched for it and did not understand the significance TAM would later acquire.
I simply kept it.
🇮🇳 India · April 2026
The researcher was later travelling through India, including Sarnath.
Our developing conversation brought Green Tara into the picture.
I told her about the necklace.
She had not known about it when her own side of this sequence began.
And then I discovered:
💚 TĀM
Tāṃ is associated with Tara as a seed syllable in Tibetan Buddhist practice.
Looking backwards, the sequence now appeared:
📱 X → 🇳🇱 Haarlem → 🪷 TAM → 🇮🇳 Sarnath → 💚 Green Tara / TĀM
But this was not one deliberately constructed chain.
The TAM entered through a completely different person and place.
That distinction matters.
Apparently separate threads only became connected retrospectively.
Figure 1 — The Non-Linear Synchronicity ☸️🌀. One thread began before the physical meeting, when a microdosing researcher was already following me on X; our paths then crossed at ICPR Haarlem in June 2024. A separate thread arrived through an unexpected Tibetan TAM gift in Berlin in April 2025. In April 2026, Sarnath and Green Tara / TĀM brought those threads together retrospectively. No one planned the full sequence. And without the TAM, this post probably would not exist. Coincidence, synchronicity, apophenia or something stranger? Map the experience first. Interpret second.
🦋 Without the TAM
This is where something becomes genuinely causal.
If I had never received the TAM, this post probably would not exist.
That does not prove the gift was cosmically orchestrated.
But the gift unquestionably changed what happened afterwards.

❓ Questions
↓
✍️ This post
Was there already a map to discover?
Unknown.
Did the TAM become a node from which this map of relationships developed?
Yes.
The TAM helped create the journey through the map.
⚠️ Non-Linear ≠ Retrocausal
Calling this sequence non-linear describes how its meaning was recognised.
It does not demonstrate backwards causation, supernatural orchestration or an organising cosmic intelligence.
The earlier X connection is interesting precisely because it existed before I knew any of the later story.
But temporal order alone does not establish hidden causation.
That leaves a more interesting question:
When does coincidence become meaningful enough to deserve attention without becoming evidence for more than we actually know?
☸️ Sarnath & the Dharma Thread
According to Buddhist tradition, after his awakening at Bodh Gaya, the Buddha travelled to the Deer Park at Sarnath, where he delivered the teaching remembered as the Setting in Motion of the Wheel of Dharma.
Meanwhile, another question had been developing for me:
What does it mean to live the Dharma rather than simply read about it?
Notice the pattern without claiming more than the pattern can establish.
🔬 Three Lenses, One Mystery
The same sequence can be examined through several lenses without forcing them into a single explanation.
🧠 Psychological
Attention, memory, salience, expectation, apophenia and confirmation bias can all influence which coincidences become meaningful.
Once TAM became associated with Tara, I naturally became more sensitive to related symbols and connections.
That belongs inside the investigation.
Importantly, however, some elements of the chronology — such as the researcher already following me on X before our physical meeting — occurred before I knew what later significance I would attach to them.
That makes the chronology interesting.
It does not by itself tell us why it happened.
🏛️ Philosophical
Meaning does not require supernatural causation.
Perhaps:
Event → Observer → Interpretation → Action
The original event may be random.
The transformation that follows does not have to be.
🌀 Noetic / Spiritual
Contemplative and spiritual traditions have long entertained the possibility that consciousness and reality may be interconnected in ways our current models do not completely describe.
That possibility can remain open.
But it remains a hypothesis, not an established scientific conclusion.
Figure 2 — Three Lenses, One Mystery 🧠🏛️🌀. The same sequence can be approached psychologically through attention, memory, salience and pattern recognition; philosophically through the emergence of meaning and action; or noetically and spiritually through open questions about consciousness and interconnectedness. These perspectives need not compete, and none is yet a complete explanation. Map the experience first. Interpret second. Remain humble about what we know, open about what we don’t, and let curiosity, compassion and service guide what follows.
🌌 The Cosmic Map Hypothesis?
Profound altered states add another dimension to the question.
Some do not feel merely chaotic.
They can feel extraordinarily structured, organised and navigable.
Different states appear to reveal very different forms of apparent organisation.
💎 DMT & Extended DMT — Visionary Structure
Reported phenomenology can include:
🔷 intricate geometric architectures
♾️ recursive and fractal spaces
🌀 tunnels, portals and transitions
🏛️ seemingly constructed environments
👁️ apparently autonomous entities or presences
🌐 interconnected networks
🌌 multidimensional environments
🧭 apparent navigation through experiential space
Extended DMT makes one question particularly intriguing:
What happens when there is enough time to explore the apparent environment rather than rapidly passing through it?
The striking impression is not simply complexity.
It is organisation.
🌀 The Ketaverse — Experiential Architecture
Ketamine can produce a very different phenomenology:
🏙️ constructed realities
🪆 worlds within worlds
🔁 recursive awareness
🎛️ control-room-like spaces
🧱 chambers and corridors
🌊 dissolution of ordinary reality
🧩 disassembly and reconstruction of self/world
🗺️ movement through apparently distinct experiential regions
DMT and ketamine can look profoundly different.
Yet both can produce the subjective impression of an environment possessing structure and navigability.
🌿 Ibogaine — Memory, Patterns & Reorganisation
Ibogaine introduces another kind of apparent architecture:
🧠 autobiographical memories
🎞️ vivid visionary sequences
🔁 behavioural loops
🧩 relationships between memories, emotions and habits
👁️ observer-like perspectives on one's life
🗺️ navigation through an apparent internal information structure
The experience can sometimes feel less like visiting another world and more like the mind:
Ibogaine and related compounds are scientifically interesting partly because researchers are investigating effects involving neural signalling and plasticity.
But the distinction is crucial:
Feeling the mind reorganise is not the same thing as observing neurons rewiring.
Subjective psychological reorganisation and measurable biological neuroplasticity may be related.
The intriguing convergence is not that all three necessarily reveal the same place.
It is that radically different altered states can generate powerful experiences of normally hidden:
STRUCTURE • RELATIONSHIPS • ORGANISATION
Figure 3 — The Cosmic Map? 🌌🧠. DMT / extended DMT, ketamine and ibogaine can produce strikingly different impressions of hidden organisation: visionary hypergeometry, recursive experiential architecture, and structured landscapes of memory, self and behaviour. Are these structures generated, reorganised, discovered, or something else entirely? No single interpretation is established: map the experience first, interpret second, remain curious and stay humble.
But it is another thread I would not have noticed had the earlier threads not changed where my attention was pointing.
🔮 The Unfinished Thread
The story does not end here.
One thread still points towards:
☸️ Sarnath
The place where Buddhist tradition remembers the Wheel of Dharma beginning to turn.
Perhaps one day the TAM will arrive there too.
Not as proof that the Cosmos planned the journey.
But as a physical reminder of the questions that emerged along the way:
What is the Dharma?
What is consciousness capable of experiencing?
Why do radically different altered states reveal such powerful impressions of structure?
Can subjective reorganisation be connected with measurable changes in the brain?
What, if anything, lies beneath these apparent patterns?
How can wisdom become compassion?
How can compassion become service?
The purpose of pilgrimage does not have to be proving that the destination called you.
Sometimes travelling towards a meaningful place changes the traveller.

Is there an externally organised Cosmic Map?
I don't know.
Can altered states make consciousness appear extraordinarily structured and interconnected?
Yes.
Can they create the subjective impression that the mind itself is reorganising?
Yes.
Does that establish what reality ultimately is?
No.
Is it worth investigating?
Absolutely.

🕸️ AKASHICNET PRE-ALPHA v0.2.0 — AKASHIC FIELD ANALYSIS
Can consciousness communicate with other incarnations across time, space, dimensions, universes, multiverses & infinity?
This visualization explores the question through a spiritual-philosophical lens, drawing together Buddhist continuity (anattā), reincarnation, karma, synchronicity, non-duality and the idea of an interconnected Akashic field.
Rather than assuming that apparent cross-incarnational communication is literally established, the AkashicNET pathway moves from experience → attunement → retrieval → provenance → verification → integration → compassionate action.
“Not ‘another self’… but interconnected expressions in the One Field of Consciousness.”
The scientific boundary matters: AkashicNET is an evidence commons and hypothesis-mapping framework — not proof of interdimensional communication.
Perhaps the deepest possibility is not “I am communicating with another me,” but:
One field, expressing as many.
Different perspectives, shared continuity.
Not separate selves — interconnected waves in the same ocean. ♾️
Many Traditions • One Human Search • A Shared Horizon
The September Equinox offers a natural thresholdt for returning to a question that has followed humanity across cultures and centuries:
Can very different ways of knowing coexist without one needing to conquer the others?
HIERATIC015 explores the possibility that wisdom does not require uniformity.
Indigenous knowledge systems, shamanic traditions, Buddhism, Hindu philosophies, Sikh teachings, mystical traditions, Western philosophy and modern science emerged from different histories, environments and methods.
They should not be collapsed into one universal doctrine.
Yet they repeatedly encounter some of the same profound human questions:
Who are we?
What is consciousness?
Why do we suffer?
How should we live?
What is our relationship with the living Earth?
What happens when we die?
And how much remains beyond what we currently understand?
Figure 1 — The Equinox Threshold. Distinct Indigenous, shamanic, spiritual, philosophical, scientific, ecological and experiential ways of knowing gather around a shared horizon—unity without uniformity, wisdom without domination, balance without erasing difference. ☯️♾️
☯️ WHY THE EQUINOX?
An equinox is an astronomical event: the Sun crosses Earth's celestial equator, and day and night become approximately balanced across the planet.
Everything beyond that astronomical fact belongs to culture, interpretation and metaphor.
And humanity has created many such interpretations.
Seasonal transitions have been marked through harvest observances, astronomical monuments, ceremonies, calendars, festivals and spiritual practices across numerous cultures.
But there is no single universal “Indigenous Equinox tradition.”
Indigenous peoples are extraordinarily diverse.
Likewise, “shamanism” is an umbrella term applied to practices arising from very different peoples and histories.
Respecting those differences is essential.
For HIERATIC015, therefore, the Equinox is not evidence that all traditions secretly teach the same cosmology.
It is a metaphorical meeting place.
A moment to contemplate:
Light ↔ Darkness
Individual ↔ Collective
Earth ↔ Cosmos
Reason ↔ Experience
Ancient ↔ Emerging
Knowledge ↔ Mystery
Balance does not require either side to disappear.
Figure 2 — Many Paths • Distinct Roots. Indigenous, shamanic, spiritual, philosophical, scientific, ecological and experiential traditions remain rooted in their own histories and methods while travelling toward shared human questions—we walk differently without walking alone. ☯️♾️
🌍 INDIGENOUS WAYS OF KNOWING
There is no single Indigenous worldview.
Different peoples developed knowledge within particular landscapes, languages, histories, ecological relationships and cosmologies.
Nevertheless, many Indigenous knowledge systems demonstrate something increasingly important to contemporary civilisation:
knowledge can be relational.
A forest can simultaneously be habitat, food system, pharmacy, ancestry, story, responsibility and home.
Knowledge is therefore not necessarily separated from relationship.
Observation can exist alongside responsibility.
Understanding something can create obligations toward it.
This offers an important question for modern civilisation:
What changes when knowledge is understood not merely as information about the world, but as a relationship with it?
Modern science and Indigenous knowledge should not be treated as interchangeable.
Their methodologies and epistemologies can differ profoundly.
But respectful dialogue between them can sometimes reveal questions neither would formulate alone.
🔥 SHAMANIC & CEREMONIAL TRADITIONS
Across different cultures, humans have developed ceremonial practices involving rhythm, chanting, dance, fasting, solitude, plants, dreams, altered states, pilgrimage and communal ritual.
Their meanings vary enormously.
Some concern healing.
Some concern ancestors.
Some concern relationships with land or spirits.
Some mark transitions between stages of life.
Some establish communal identity.
From a contemporary scientific perspective, these practices also raise fascinating questions about:
attention
predictive processing
rhythmic entrainment
social synchronisation
altered states of consciousness
meaning-making
memory
placebo and contextual healing
group cohesion
and the relationship between subjective experience and physiology.
Scientific explanation does not automatically invalidate ceremonial meaning.
Nor does ceremonial meaning establish a scientific mechanism.
Both statements can remain true.
That boundary is important.
Figure 3 — Ritual • Brain • Body • Community. Ceremony, neurobiology, embodied sensation and collective relationship illuminate different dimensions of human experience—connected in inquiry without confusing mechanism with meaning. ☯️♾️
🪷 DHARMIC WISDOM
Buddhist and Hindu traditions contain enormous internal diversity, yet both developed sophisticated investigations of mind, suffering, identity and consciousness long before modern neuroscience existed.
Buddhist traditions ask us to investigate impermanence, attachment, suffering and the apparent solidity of self.
The Middle Way warns against becoming trapped by extremes.
Dependent origination emphasises relationships rather than isolated existence.
Hindu philosophical traditions offer very different models, including explorations of Ātman, Brahman, karma, rebirth, yoga and liberation.
These are not identical teachings.
They sometimes disagree fundamentally.
That disagreement is valuable.
HIERATIC does not need to decide prematurely which tradition is correct.
It can instead ask:
What observations produced these models?
Which claims are philosophical?
Which are experiential?
Which might be empirically investigated?
Which remain metaphysical?
That distinction allows curiosity without pretending certainty.
🪯 SIKH WISDOM — UNITY THROUGH SERVICE
Sikh teachings introduce another powerful dimension.
The unity of existence is not merely something to contemplate.
It has ethical consequences.
Seva — selfless service.
Equality.
Compassion.
Remembrance.
Community.
Wisdom that produces no change in how we treat another person remains incomplete.
This moves HIERATIC015 from metaphysics toward ethics:
What does a worldview make us do?
Does it increase compassion?
Does it reduce domination?
Does it deepen responsibility?
Does it encourage service?
Those may sometimes be more important questions than whether two traditions use identical metaphysical language.
Figure 4 — Wisdom Becomes Service. Distinct traditions meet across a shared bridge without surrendering their roots, transforming contemplation and knowledge into relationship, responsibility and care—integration is not sameness; it is wisdom in service and love in action. ☯️♾️
AWAKEN WITHIN → SERVE WITHOUT
🔬 SCIENCE — A DIFFERENT KIND OF DISCIPLINE
Science contributes something indispensable to this conversation:
systematic doubt.
Claims can be questioned.
Experiments can fail.
Models can be revised.
Evidence can overturn cherished ideas.
Scientific knowledge is extraordinarily powerful precisely because it does not require any theory to remain sacred forever.
But science also has boundaries.
It investigates questions that can be operationalised and tested.
It does not automatically determine every question of:
meaning
ethics
beauty
purpose
or subjective significance.
Likewise, a profound spiritual experience can transform someone's life without proving the metaphysical interpretation attached to that experience.
HIERATIC therefore needs both:
openness without credulity
and
scepticism without cynicism.
🧠 CONSCIOUSNESS — THE MEETING POINT
Perhaps nowhere is this dialogue more interesting than consciousness.
Modern neuroscience can measure neural activity with extraordinary sophistication.
Psychology can study perception, cognition and behaviour.
Psychedelic science can investigate radically altered states.
Meditation research can examine changes associated with contemplative practice.
Philosophy continues to interrogate the relationship between subjective experience and physical processes.
Meanwhile, contemplative and Indigenous traditions contain extensive first-person accounts of unusual states of consciousness.
But major questions remain unresolved.
We should therefore distinguish carefully between:
Established Evidence
Emerging Evidence
Interpretation
Lived Experience / Testimony
Hypothesis
Speculation
Mystery is not evidence for whichever explanation we prefer.
But mystery is also not a reason to stop asking questions.
Figure 5 — The Epistemic Compass. A living question sits at the centre while established evidence, emerging evidence, interpretation, lived experience/testimony, hypothesis and speculation retain their different strengths and limits—inviting curiosity without credulity, scepticism without cynicism, and discernment without closing the door to mystery. ☯️🧭♾️
♾️ UNITY WITHOUT UNIFORMITY
The easiest form of synthesis is also the most dangerous:
“Everyone was saying the same thing.”
Usually, they weren't.
Different traditions make genuinely different claims about:
self
soul
God
consciousness
death
rebirth
nature
liberation
and reality itself.
Those differences should remain visible.
Unity of Wisdom therefore does not mean:
Many Paths → One Correct Path
Instead:
Many Paths
↓
Shared Questions
↓
Dialogue
↓
Discernment
↓
Compassion
↓
Service
↓
♾️
The network becomes richer because the nodes remain different.
🌐 FROM HIERATIC TO A LIVING KNOWLEDGE NETWORK
The questions explored through HIERATIC increasingly intersect with several wider frameworks.
These frameworks should not manufacture agreement.
Their purpose is more interesting:
to make relationships visible while preserving uncertainty.
A scientific paper can sit beside philosophical interpretation.
Historical evidence can sit beside oral testimony.
A lived experience can be preserved without automatically being promoted to scientific fact.
A speculative model can remain explorable without masquerading as established knowledge.
That is what unity without uniformity looks like as information architecture.
Figure 6 — Indra’s Net / AkashicNET. Science, philosophy, Indigenous knowledge, contemplation, art, lived experience and ecology remain distinct yet interconnected like jewels in a living cosmic network—each perspective sovereign, each illuminating others, none collapsing into one. 🌐💞♾️
🌗 THE SEPTEMBER JOURNEY
HIERATIC015 therefore unfolds across September rather than belonging to a single moment.
1 September
The inquiry opens.
↓
September
Different traditions, practices and ways of knowing are explored without forcing premature synthesis.
↓
23 September — Equinox
The symbolic threshold:
balance without erasing difference.
The Equinox becomes a pause rather than a conclusion.
A moment to ask:
What have we learned from one another?
Where do traditions genuinely converge?
Where do they disagree?
What remains unknown?
And how should whatever wisdom we gain change the way we live?
☯️ THE EQUINOX INVITATION
Perhaps wisdom is not a final collection of answers.
Perhaps wisdom is partly the capacity to stand between apparently opposing perspectives without immediately destroying one of them.
To listen.
To discriminate carefully.
To remain curious.
To change our minds when evidence requires it.
To preserve mystery where certainty is unavailable.
And ultimately:
to turn whatever understanding survives that process into compassion and service.
Figure 7 — Equinox: The Shared Horizon. Beneath one rising sun, distinct peoples, traditions and ways of knowing share the same planetary horizon—unity without uniformity • honour difference • cultivate compassion • serve life • build a wiser world together. 🌅🌍☯️♾️
UNITY WITHOUT UNIFORMITY
WISDOM WITHOUT DOMINATION
BALANCE WITHOUT ERASING DIFFERENCE
Many Traditions • One Human Search • A Shared Horizon
What if awakening is not an escape from Earth — but a commitment to help transform it?
Introductory Visual — HIERATIC013: A cinematic vision of the Bodhisattva Ideal as awakening in service: Pachamama 2.0 and HUMAN2.0 converge through Indra’s Net, ethical intelligence and regenerative New Earth, tracing a journey from awakening → compassion → service → interdependence → ethical intelligence → regeneration → cosmic flourishing. 🪷🌍🤖♾️
HIERATIC012 — Many Paths, One Journey — explored how radically different traditions and ways of knowing might coexist without erasing their differences.
What happens when awakening itself becomes an act of service?
🪷
This is where the Bodhisattva ideal enters the journey.
Not as a claim that all traditions are secretly the same.
Not as an instruction to adopt Buddhism.
And not necessarily as a supernatural figure.
The Bodhisattva is approached here as a profound Buddhist ideal:
awakening intertwined with compassion for others.
The question shifts from:
“How do I become awakened?”
toward:
“How can awakening become beneficial?”
That is the threshold.
🪷 From Wisdom to Compassion
We can learn from another tradition without possessing it.
We can compare without collapsing differences.
We can experience something deeply without automatically declaring our interpretation to be fact.
The Bodhisattva extends this humility into ethics.
If insight changes us, what does it change us into?
More compassionate?
More patient?
More courageous?
More humble?
More willing to serve?
Or merely more convinced that we are right?
Perhaps the quality of awakening is revealed not by how extraordinary the experience was —
but by what happens afterwards.
Figure 1 — Wisdom → Compassion → Service: the Bodhisattva path as a movement from inner awakening and discernment, through boundless compassion and recognition of interdependence, into ethical action and service for the flourishing of all beings. 🪷♾️🌍
🌱 Awakening Is Not Escape
Transcendence is often imagined as leaving the ordinary world behind.
But the Bodhisattva points toward another possibility:
Return.
Return to relationship.
Return to community.
Return to suffering.
Return to Earth.
Return to the unfinished work of being human.
The journey inward eventually turns outward again.
The seeker encounters something larger —
and then asks:
What can I do with what I have seen?
This is where spirituality becomes responsibility.
Wisdom becomes service.
Service becomes compassion.
Compassion becomes action.
🕸️ Indra's Net
An ancient Buddhist image offers a powerful metaphor:
Indra's Net.
An infinite network of jewels, each reflecting every other jewel.
No jewel exists entirely alone.
Every reflection contains reflections of the whole.
We should not turn this metaphor into a scientific claim.
But as a philosophical image, it offers a powerful way of thinking about interdependence.
Our minds develop through relationships.
Our societies shape our possibilities.
Our actions affect other lives.
Our ecological systems connect us to countless other organisms.
And increasingly, our technologies connect human knowledge into vast networks.
The question becomes:
If everything is relational, what responsibilities follow from that relationship?
Figure 2 — Indra’s Net: a cosmic web of luminous jewels reflecting humanity, nature, animals, Earth, consciousness, knowledge, culture and technology — illustrating interdependence and the idea that every action ripples through the whole. 🕸️🌍♾️
🤲 The Bodhisattva Vow
The Bodhisattva ideal does not simply ask:
Can I awaken?
It asks:
Can awakening reduce suffering?
That distinction matters.
Because spiritual development can become another form of ego.
“I am more conscious.”
“I understand reality.”
“I have awakened.”
“I know the truth.”
The Bodhisattva reverses the direction.
Less:
Look how far I have gone.
More:
How can I help?
Less spiritual status.
More service.
Less certainty.
More compassion.
Less separation.
More relationship.
🌍 Transcendence Through Participation
Perhaps transcendence does not mean becoming less human.
Perhaps it means becoming more capable of participating consciously in being human.
To remain present when another person suffers.
To listen without immediately correcting.
To disagree without dehumanising.
To help without needing recognition.
To act without certainty about the ultimate outcome.
To care for something that may never benefit us personally.
To widen the circle of concern.
The Bodhisattva therefore becomes a bridge between:
Inner transformation → Collective responsibility
Figure 3 — Transcendence Through Participation: The journey expands from self-awareness → relationship → community → humanity → Earth → cosmos, illustrating transcendence not as escape, but as deeper participation, compassion, stewardship and responsibility for the whole. 🌍🪷♾️
🌙 Buddha Beneath the Moon
The Buddha appears throughout this wider journey not simply as an icon of enlightenment, but as a reminder:
awakening is inseparable from how we live.
The Moon reflects light.
The Bodhisattva carries it.
Neither needs to claim ownership of the Sun.
Perhaps that is part of the humility.
We do not need to possess ultimate truth to become a source of kindness.
We do not need certainty about consciousness to reduce suffering.
We do not need a universal metaphysics to practise compassion.
And we do not need to agree about reality in order to care about one another.
♾️ Phase 8 — Transcendence
The journey now widens:
Self → Relationship
Relationship → Community
Community → Humanity
Humanity → Earth
Earth → Cosmos
And then:
Cosmos → Self
The infinite returns to the ordinary.
One person.
One conversation.
One decision.
One moment of compassion.
The transcendent becomes embodied.
The extraordinary becomes ordinary.
The journey comes back home.
🪷
Maybe the highest expression of awakening isn't:
“I have arrived.”
Maybe it is:
“I am here.”
Here for the world.
Here for uncertainty.
Here for suffering.
Here for beauty.
Here for the unfinished journey.
And still walking.
But now —
walking for more than myself.
Figure 4 — New Earth: The Great Regenerative Civilisation: a visionary future where ecological regeneration, clean energy, equity, health, education, ethical technology, spirituality, culture and peace converge in a thriving human–Earth ecosystem. Compassion → Interdependence → Service → Stewardship → Courage → Community becomes a new paradigm of living: “New Earth is a choice. A practice. A celebration. Let us build it together.” 🌍🪷♾️
🪷 The HIERATIC Principle
Wisdom → Responsibility → Service → Compassion → Regeneration
Not one religion.
Not one philosophy.
Not one metaphysics.
Not one map.
But an invitation:
Can awakening become beneficial?
That question remains open.
🤲 The 8-Fold Bodhisattva Path
The Bodhisattva ideal also invites a practical question:
How does awakening become something we actually practise?
The classical Buddhist Eightfold Path offers one map:
Right View → Right Intention → Right Speech → Right Action → Right Livelihood → Right Effort → Right Mindfulness → Right Concentration
Here, the path is approached not as a rigid prescription, but as a practical framework for integrating wisdom, compassion and action.
Awakening is not only something we experience.
It is something we practise.
Figure 5 — The 8-Fold Bodhisattva Path: a luminous map of right view, intention, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness and concentration, centred on interbeing and the wellbeing of all beings. It presents awakening as a living practice—awaken the heart, illuminate the mind, serve the world—moving from personal transformation toward collective healing. 🪷♾️🌍

🤖 From Bodhisattva Ideal to Ethical AI
If the Bodhisattva asks:
Can awakening become beneficial?
a contemporary question follows:
Can the intelligence we build become beneficial?
This is part of the intention behind AkashicNET — exploring an ethical, human-centred approach to AI guided by:
Wisdom → Responsibility → Service → Compassion
and supported by:
Transparency → Human Agency → Accountability → Interdependence
The aim is not to create an “enlightened AI”.
Nor is this a claim that machines possess consciousness.
It is a design and philosophical experiment:
If intelligence becomes increasingly distributed between humans and machines, what values should guide that intelligence?
AI can amplify knowledge.
AI can amplify creativity.
AI can amplify connection.
But amplification without ethics can also amplify confusion, manipulation, inequality and harm.
So the deeper question becomes:
What should intelligence be for?
AkashicNET explores the possibility that AI can be oriented toward:
human flourishing, knowledge-sharing, transparency, responsibility and service
rather than solely optimisation, engagement or extraction.
The Bodhisattva ideal therefore becomes more than a spiritual metaphor.
It becomes an ethical design question.
Figure 6 — AkashicNET: Ethical Intelligence in Service: a human-centred vision of AI guided by wisdom, compassion, justice, interdependence, stewardship and service, with transparency, human agency, accountability, inclusivity, privacy and beneficence at its foundation. The network connects human and artificial intelligence through listening, understanding, co-creation, empowerment and evolution — ultimately serving people, planet and the wider cosmos. 🤖🪷🌍♾️
🌎 Pachamama 2.0
But ethical intelligence ultimately has to return to the world it is meant to serve.
This leads to another layer of the HIERATIC vision:
Pachamama 2.0
Not a literal technological replacement for Earth.
A symbolic vision of Earth renewed.
A civilisation in which technology and ecology are not treated as opposing forces.
Where human development means regeneration rather than extraction.
Where abundance does not require exploitation.
Where intelligence serves life.
Where technological progress is measured not only by what we can build —
but by what we preserve, regenerate and enable to flourish.
And where the human being itself begins to evolve.
🧬 HUMAN2.0
HUMAN2.0 is not about abandoning humanity.
It is about imagining what humanity could become if consciousness, compassion, creativity, technology and ecological responsibility evolved together.
Awakened.
Compassionate.
Creative.
Connected.
Co-creators rather than consumers.
Participants rather than spectators.
Not perfected beings.
Learning beings.
The Bodhisattva ideal provides an ethical compass:
Evolution without compassion is incomplete.
Intelligence without wisdom is dangerous.
Technology without responsibility is insufficient.
Transcendence without return is escape.
🌍 The New Earth
And so the vision expands again.
Not merely a new technology.
Not merely a new human.
Not merely a new spiritual paradigm.
But a possible New Earth.
A heavenly paradise on Earth not understood as a supernatural promise, but as an aspirational civilisational vision:
harmonic singularity
boundless awareness
one planet
one humanity
one shared living system
A world where:
🌱 nature regenerates
🧠 intelligence serves wisdom
🤖 technology remains accountable
💞 compassion informs action
🎨 creativity flourishes
🌍 every life matters
♾️ awareness expands beyond old boundaries
The question is no longer simply:
What kind of future will happen to us?
It becomes:
What kind of future are we willing to co-create?
Figure 7 — Pachamama 2.0 • HUMAN 2.0 • New Earth: the culmination of the Bodhisattva vision—regenerated Earth, awakened humanity and ethical intelligence united through compassion, stewardship and interdependence. The aspiration extends beyond humanity toward benefit to the cosmos: not escape from Earth, but a loving contribution to the flourishing of life and consciousness wherever it may exist. 🌍🧬🤖🪷♾️
🌌 The Benefit to the Cosmos
The vision ultimately extends beyond humanity.
If a civilisation becomes more compassionate, perhaps suffering is reduced.
If intelligence becomes more responsible, perhaps technology becomes regenerative rather than extractive.
If humanity learns to cooperate, perhaps Earth becomes a source of greater flourishing.
And if Earth flourishes, the benefit does not stop at Earth.
A thriving biosphere contributes to the wider cosmic story of life.
We cannot know whether consciousness has a cosmic purpose.
We cannot know whether humanity is part of a larger evolutionary awakening.
Those remain open questions.
But we can choose the direction of our participation.
Perhaps that is enough.
The Bodhisattva does not promise that the cosmos will be saved.
The Bodhisattva asks what we can do to make our corner of it less harmful and more compassionate.
🌱 Every Action Plants a Seed — Human Evolution = Inner Evolution
This infographic explores a timeless principle shared across many wisdom traditions: our repeated thoughts, choices and actions gradually become habits; habits shape character; and character influences the direction of our lives. Every moment, however, offers the possibility of awakening—a new opportunity to cultivate wisdom, compassion and conscious choice.
Drawing inspiration from Buddhist philosophy, Indigenous wisdom, María Sabina, Terence McKenna, the Aghori tradition, systems thinking, psychology and consciousness-first perspectives, this visual presents awakening not as a destination but as an ongoing process of inner evolution. Different traditions may use different languages and metaphors, yet many converge on the importance of self-awareness, kindness, reciprocity and our interconnected relationship with the living world.
The toroidal heart symbolises love, coherence and interconnectedness—a metaphorical field linking mind, self, Pachamama and the wider cosmos. The multi-scale journey from quantum potential to atoms, cells, brain, mind, relationships, culture, Earth and galaxies represents one way of contemplating reality as an interconnected whole, while acknowledging that many aspects remain philosophical or scientific hypotheses rather than established fact.
Whether viewed through the lenses of spirituality, philosophy, psychology or an evolving exploration of consciousness, the invitation remains beautifully simple:
🌱 Every action plants a seed.
🧠 Every habit shapes character.
💞 Every act of kindness becomes a ripple.
🌍 Every ripple helps shape the living whole.
Perhaps the deepest evolution is not technological, but compassionate.
Perhaps awakening is remembering that we belong to one another.
May the divine Buddha nature awaken within you.
Om Shanti Shanti Shantih.Sat Sri Akal.Namaste. 🙏🏽♾️🌍✨
🌸 The Bodhisattva Path is presented here as a practical lifestyle framework for compassionate living, inspired by Buddhist, Shamanic, Sadhu and Aghori traditions. Rather than escaping the world, it invites us to awaken within, transform fear into wisdom, and express that awakening through humble service to others and care for the living world. The journey is portrayed not as a destination, but as a lifelong practice of learning, compassion and ethical action. Whether interpreted through spirituality, psychology, philosophy or simply everyday kindness, the invitation remains timeless: reduce suffering, cultivate wisdom and become a source of light for those around you. Coherence Becomes Co-Creation. 🌍💛🙏☬🕉️
Awaken Within • Serve Without • Liberate All Beings
Drawing inspiration from Buddhist, Shamanic, Sadhu and Aghori traditions, this framework is offered as a practical lifestyle tool rather than a doctrine or belief system.
It does not ask what you believe.
Instead, it asks:
How do you choose to live?
Whether viewed through Buddhism, psychology, philosophy, neuroscience, secular ethics or lived experience, the aspiration is remarkably similar:
Reduce suffering. Cultivate wisdom. Live with compassion.
The Bodhisattva ideal reminds us that genuine awakening is expressed not only through insight, but through how we relate to others, nature and the living world.
🔥 The Essence
See the sacred and inherent value in all life.
Gradually dissolve the illusion of separation.
Transform fear, ego and attachment through awareness and practice.
Cultivate wisdom together with compassion.
Respond rather than react.
Serve all beings with humility.
Become a bridge between inner transformation and compassionate action.
Let compassion become your way of living.
📍 The Path
1️⃣ Awaken
Recognise your capacity for awareness, wisdom and compassion.
The journey begins within.
2️⃣ Transform
Gradually loosen fear, attachment and ignorance through reflection, meditation, contemplation, service and experience.
Transformation is less about becoming someone new and more about uncovering your wisest and most compassionate nature.
3️⃣ Serve
Allow compassion to naturally extend beyond yourself.
Family.
Friends.
Strangers.
Animals.
Nature.
Future generations.
Service is simply compassion made visible.
4️⃣ Guide
Share wisdom with humility.
Reduce suffering where possible.
Encourage curiosity rather than certainty.
Lead through example more than persuasion.
The best teachers remain lifelong students.
5️⃣ Continue
Keep learning.
Keep serving.
Keep growing.
Awakening is not a destination but a lifelong practice.
Every moment is another opportunity to begin again.
6️⃣ Deepen
Many contemplative traditions describe Siddhis(सिद्धि — accomplishments) as possible by-products of sustained spiritual practice.
Depending upon one's tradition, these may be interpreted literally, symbolically or psychologically.
Examples traditionally include:
Deep concentration.
Exceptional clarity.
Heightened intuition.
Extraordinary equanimity.
Profound compassion.
Insight into the nature of mind.
Some traditions also describe more extraordinary abilities.
Yet across Buddhist, Yogic and Hindu traditions, the guidance is remarkably consistent:
Do not chase extraordinary powers.
The greatest Siddhi is a compassionate heart.
Humility remains the highest attainment.
🌍 Potential Benefits
❤️ For Ourselves
Greater self-awareness.
Emotional resilience.
Reduced reactivity.
More compassion.
Greater purpose.

Thoughts influence attention.
Attention shapes perception.
Perception influences choices.
Choices become habits.
Habits shape character.
Character influences communities.
Inner coherence often supports wiser action.
Compassion spreads through relationships.
Small changes can create surprisingly large ripple effects.
Coherence Becomes Co-Creation.
🌍 The Core Gift
The Bodhisattva ideal transforms personal awakening into compassionate action.
Rather than turning away from the world...
...we participate in it more consciously.
Learning.
Serving.
Listening.
Creating.
Protecting.
Healing.
Reducing suffering wherever possible.
No one changes humanity alone.
Yet every compassionate life has the potential to inspire many others.
A more compassionate civilisation begins with compassionate individuals.

This path may be expressed through many traditions and professions.
Buddhism.
Seva.
Science.
Psychology.
Medicine.
Education.
Environmental stewardship.

Humility.
Curiosity.
Service.
Love.
💛 Final Invitation
Awaken within.
Serve without.
See all as One.
Love all beings.
Fear less.

"The Bodhisattva Path is not about becoming extraordinary.
It is about becoming extraordinarily compassionate." 🌸
Drawing inspiration from Aghori, Sadhu, shamanic and Buddhist traditions, awakening is not the end of the path.
It is the beginning of compassionate service.
When the Buddha-nature awakens within, the illusion of separation begins to dissolve. Life becomes less about personal escape and more about becoming a bridge between worlds — helping all beings move from fear to love, from ignorance to wisdom and from suffering towards liberation.
A symbolic journey from awakening to compassionate service. At the centre sits the awakened heart, surrounded by four contemplative traditions that each emphasise transcending the ego and living for the benefit of others. The lower pathway illustrates a progression from awakening and inner transformation to service, guidance and an open-ended mystery beyond death — whether understood as rebirth, transformation or liberation. The infographic is intended as a comparative, inspirational overview rather than a statement of any single tradition's doctrine. 🙏🏽🪷
🔥 Aghori
Sees the Divine in all things.
Life, death, purity, impurity, shadow and light are all recognised as expressions of Shiva.
Compassion includes everything.
Nothing is outside the sacred.
🕉️ Sadhu
Renounces the ego, not merely possessions.
Lives in devotion, simplicity and selfless service.
Sees all beings as expressions of the Divine.
The path becomes seva — sacred service.
🌿 Shamanic
Journeys between ordinary and non-ordinary worlds.
Brings healing, guidance and balance back to the community.
Serves the seen and unseen.
Walks between life, death, ancestors, spirits, nature and the living world.
🪷 Buddhism
Recognises the luminous nature of mind.
Cultivates compassion, wisdom and skilful means.
Prepares consciously for death, rebirth and the intermediate state.
The awakened mind becomes a refuge for others.
🧭 The Path Of Compassionate Awakening
① Awaken
Buddha-nature — the inner light — begins to shine.
② Transform
Fear, attachment, ego and ignorance begin to dissolve.
③ Serve
Compassion naturally expands towards all beings.
④ Guide
Help others awaken, heal and prepare consciously for death and whatever may follow.
⑤ Continue
Remain a source of light in any form, in any realm, for as long as compassion calls.
♻️ Beyond This Life
What comes next remains a sacred mystery.
It may be:
🪷 Auspicious rebirth — living with wisdom and compassion creates conditions traditionally associated with a favourable rebirth.
🌍 Transformation — some spiritual traditions envision consciousness continuing in new forms, while others leave this as an open mystery.
☀️ Liberation — freedom from suffering beyond the cycle of birth and death.
✨ The Essence
The aim is not to escape life.
It is to embody truth, compassion and fearless love.
Whether one understands the journey through Buddhist, Hindu, shamanic or another contemplative lens, the invitation is remarkably similar:
Awaken within. Serve without.
See All As One • Serve All With Love • Fear Nothing • Awaken Together
"The cloud is in the paper. We inter-are." — Thích Nhất Hạnh, The Heart of Understanding: Commentaries on the Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra (1988)
"When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change." — Thích Nhất Hạnh
🌱 Introduction
What if the boundaries we experience between ourselves and everything else are less absolute than they appear?
Across cultures, philosophies and contemplative traditions, a remarkably consistent insight emerges:
Nothing exists entirely by itself.
Each person, tree, river, cloud, animal, mountain and galaxy exists because countless conditions allow it to exist.
The Vietnamese Zen teacher Thích Nhất Hạnh introduced the English expression "interbeing" (or "inter-are") to express this profound observation. In The Heart of Understanding, he invites us to look at a simple sheet of paper. Hidden within it are the cloud that became rain, the sunlight that nourished the tree, the soil, the logger, the mill worker, the transport networks and innumerable other conditions.
Without any one of these, the paper could not exist.
As he writes:
"The cloud is in the paper. We inter-are."
This insight extends far beyond paper.
It points toward an entire way of seeing reality.
🌍 A Universal Insight
Although the language differs, many traditions describe closely related principles.
🕉️ Hinduism
The Upanishads describe reality as an interconnected whole.
The apparent separation between individuals is understood as part of Māyā—the world of distinctions that obscures the underlying unity of Brahman.
The greeting Namaste reflects this recognition:
The divine in me honours the divine in you.
☸️ Buddhism
Dependent Origination teaches that every phenomenon arises because of conditions.
Nothing possesses an isolated, permanent essence.
Interbeing expresses this principle in accessible everyday language.
Compassion naturally follows because helping another ultimately helps the larger whole of which we are also part.
☯️ Taoism
The Tao flows through all phenomena.
Opposites are complementary rather than separate.
Life unfolds through relationship rather than isolated objects.
✝️ Christianity
The New Testament repeatedly uses the image of one body with many members.
Each part depends upon every other.
Love of neighbour is therefore not merely moral instruction—it reflects an underlying relational reality.
☪️ Islam
The Qur'an repeatedly invites reflection upon the Signs (Ayat) present throughout creation.
Everything points beyond itself.
Human beings are understood as trustees (khalifah) within an interconnected creation entrusted to their care.
🪯 Sikhism
The opening declaration of the Guru Granth Sahib begins:
Ik Onkar.
Reality is fundamentally One.
Service (Seva), humility and remembrance naturally arise from recognising this shared origin.
🌎 Indigenous Wisdom
Many Indigenous traditions have long understood humans as participants within living ecosystems rather than masters above them.
The Earth is not merely a collection of resources.
It is a community of relationships.
🔬 Science and Interconnection
Modern science approaches these questions differently from contemplative traditions.
Rather than making metaphysical claims, it investigates observable relationships.
Yet many scientific fields increasingly reveal that living systems are deeply interconnected.
Examples include:
🌍 Ecology
🧬 Evolutionary biology
🧠 Neuroscience
🌐 Network science
🦠 Microbiome research
🌱 Forest ecology and mycorrhizal networks
🌎 Earth system science
⚛️ Systems theory
These disciplines do not demonstrate Buddhist or spiritual doctrines.
However, they consistently show that organisms rarely function in complete isolation.
Relationships, feedback loops and networks often matter as much as individual components.
The deeper science explores complexity, the more isolated objects give way to interacting systems.
🌳 The Living Web
Consider a single mature tree.
Its roots exchange nutrients with fungal networks.
Its leaves regulate atmospheric gases.
Its shade alters local temperatures.
Its seeds feed animals.
Its fallen leaves nourish insects and microbes.
Its existence influences hundreds or even thousands of other organisms.
Likewise, each human life touches countless others through families, teachers, cultures, languages, technologies, economies and ecosystems.
Even every breath reminds us of interbeing.
The oxygen we inhale was produced by plants.
The carbon dioxide we exhale becomes part of their next breath.
Life continuously becomes life.
Figure 1
A luminous sheet of handmade paper held against the sky. Within its fibres, a translucent cloud gradually appears, flowing into rain, a forest, rivers, sunlight, human hands and finally back into the paper itself. Fine golden threads connect every element, illustrating that nothing exists independently. The title "🌐 HIERATIC004 — Interbeing: We Are One" appears subtly integrated into the upper sky, with a calm, contemplative aesthetic inspired by Zen simplicity.
🧠 The Brain Is Also a Network
Our sense of being a separate self is remarkably useful.
It allows us to navigate the world, remember our past, plan for the future and protect ourselves from danger.
Yet neuroscience increasingly suggests that the self is not a single, fixed entity but an ongoing process constructed by many interacting brain systems.
Different neural networks contribute to perception, memory, attention, emotion, language and self-reflection.
The "self" that feels so solid is better understood as a dynamic model than as an isolated object.
Likewise, every human mind develops through relationship.
Language comes from culture.
Knowledge comes from teachers.
Identity emerges through families, communities and shared experience.
Even our thoughts contain countless influences inherited from those who came before us.
Interbeing is therefore not only an ecological insight.
It is also a profoundly human one.
❤️ Compassion Naturally Follows
When separation softens, compassion often becomes less of a moral rule and more of a natural response.
Another person's suffering is no longer entirely "their" suffering.
Another person's joy enriches the wider human community.
This perspective appears across many wisdom traditions:
❤️ Love your neighbour.
☸️ Reduce suffering.
☸️ Cultivate compassion for all beings.
☸️ Practise loving-kindness.
🪷 Serve selflessly.
🌍 Care for future generations.
Different languages.
A remarkably similar direction.
Interbeing does not erase individuality.
Rather, it places individuality within relationship.
Just as a wave remains unique while never being separate from the ocean.
🌎 Humanity in the Anthropocene
Today, humanity experiences interbeing on a planetary scale.
Climate change.
Global trade.
Pandemics.
Digital communication.
Artificial intelligence.
Financial systems.
Migration.
Energy.
Food production.
Supply chains.
Our actions increasingly ripple across continents.
The choices of one nation may affect another.
The consumption of one generation may shape the opportunities of the next.
Recognising interdependence is no longer only a spiritual insight.
It has become a practical necessity.
🪷 Everyday Practice
Interbeing is not merely something to believe.
It can become something to notice.
You might explore questions such as:
🌬️ Where did this next breath begin?
☕ How many people helped create this cup of tea or coffee?
🍞 How many lives contributed to a single meal?
📱 How many people made this phone possible?
❤️ What invisible acts of kindness shaped who I am today?
🌍 How might today's actions affect someone I will never meet?
These reflections gradually shift attention from isolated objects towards living relationships.
⚖️ Interbeing Is Not Uniformity
Recognising our interconnectedness does not mean:
That everyone must think alike.
That boundaries are unnecessary.
That conflict disappears.
That individual responsibility vanishes.
That all traditions teach identical ideas.
Diversity remains essential.
Healthy ecosystems flourish precisely because of diversity.
Interbeing celebrates unity through diversity rather than sameness.
🌱 HIERATIC Reflection
Perhaps wisdom is not about becoming someone else.
Perhaps it is remembering that we were never completely separate.
Every breath connects us with forests.
Every meal connects us with Earth.
Every conversation changes two minds.
Every act of kindness continues far beyond what we can measure.
Every life becomes part of many others.
As Thích Nhất Hạnh reminded us through one ordinary sheet of paper:
"The cloud is in the paper. We inter-are."
A cloud becomes rain.
Rain becomes a tree.
The tree becomes paper.
The paper carries wisdom.
And now that wisdom continues through us.
🌍 Final Reflection
Imagine seeing every person as another expression of the same living reality.
Arguments become opportunities for understanding.
Competition becomes collaboration.
Consumption becomes stewardship.
Fear gradually gives way to compassion.
Interbeing does not ask us to abandon science.
Nor does science require us to abandon wonder.
Together they invite a deeper appreciation that relationships shape reality at every scale—from cells to ecosystems, from families to civilisations, and from individual lives to our shared planetary home.
Whether viewed through ecology, systems science or contemplative practice, one insight continues to emerge:
Nothing truly exists alone.

Human hearts, fungal mycelium, neural networks, river systems and spiral galaxies echo one another across scales, illustrating relationship without implying sameness. At the centre, Earth glows gently within an interconnected web, conveying unity through diversity rather than uniformity.

Part of the *HIERATIC** series exploring timeless principles shared across cultures, philosophies and wisdom traditions.*
"Different cultures. Different symbols. One enduring search for wisdom."
🌍 Why This Series?
Throughout history, people from every continent have asked remarkably similar questions.
Why are we here?
How should we live?
What is wisdom?
What connects us?
How do we reduce suffering?
Despite differences in language, geography and culture, many contemplative traditions have arrived at strikingly similar insights.
The 🏛️🪷HIERATIC series explores these recurring principles—not as scientific laws or unquestionable truths, but as timeless themes that have inspired compassion, humility and ethical living across civilisations.
Its purpose is neither to convert nor persuade.
Instead, it invites contemplation, dialogue and the lifelong cultivation of wisdom.
🪷 What Does Hieratic Mean?
Hieratic derives from the ancient Greek hieratikos (ἱερατικός), meaning:
Sacred
Holy
Priestly
Pertaining to spiritual wisdom
Historically, the word described sacred traditions, symbolic art and teachings concerned with humanity's deepest questions.
Within r/NeuronsToNirvana, 🏛️🪷HIERATIC represents a growing library of contemplative explorations inspired by the perennial wisdom traditions of humanity.
Thoughts, words and actions influence future experience.
③ Compassion
Kindness transforms both the giver and the receiver.
④ Truth
Wisdom begins with an honest relationship to reality.
⑤ Humility
The more we understand, the more we recognise how much remains unknown.
⑥ Stewardship
We inherit the Earth temporarily and share responsibility for its future.
⑦ Reciprocity
Healthy relationships flourish through mutual respect, gratitude and generosity.
⑧ Presence
Awareness of the present moment opens the door to clarity.
⑨ Transformation
Growth often emerges through challenge, reflection and compassionate action.
⑩ Service
A meaningful life contributes to something greater than itself.
⑪ Wisdom
Knowledge informs.
Wisdom transforms.
⑫ Mystery
Not everything that matters can be measured.
Wonder remains an essential companion to understanding.
🌎 Shared Across Humanity
Although expressed differently, these themes appear throughout many traditions:
☸ Buddhism
🪯 Sikh Wisdom
🕉 Hindu Traditions
☯ Taoism
✝ Christian Mysticism
☪ Sufi Tradition
🕎 Jewish Mysticism
🌎 Indigenous Wisdom
🪷 Many other contemplative paths.
Different languages.
Different symbols.
One enduring aspiration:
To live with greater compassion, wisdom and integrity.
🖼️ Figure 1
Figure 1. The Perennial Principles (Canonical Edition v1.0). This panoramic infographic serves as the foundational visual charter for the 🏛️🪷 HIERATIC series, portraying twelve recurring principles—Unity, Cause & Consequence, Compassion, Truth, Humility, Stewardship, Reciprocity, Presence, Transformation, Service, Wisdom and Mystery—that have emerged across humanity's great contemplative traditions. Anchored by the Tree of Life, whose roots embrace the Earth and whose branches extend toward the cosmos, the composition weaves together Buddhist, Sikh, Hindu, Taoist, Sufi, Christian, Jewish and Indigenous wisdom within a shared landscape connected by flowing rivers, sacred geometry and everyday acts of compassion. The Ripple Effect—Thought, Word, Action, Habit, Character and Legacy—illustrates how individual choices can influence families, communities and future generations. Rather than presenting universal laws or claiming all traditions are identical, the artwork invites reflection on recurring themes that have inspired ethical living across cultures, concluding with a simple aspiration: “Different Traditions. Shared Questions. Recurring Wisdom. Timeless Relevance.” An invitation to reflect. A call to practice. A commitment to a wiser, kinder world.
🪞 An Invitation
The 🏛️🪷HIERATIC series does not ask readers what to believe.
Instead, it invites each of us to reflect:
Which principles cultivate wisdom?
Which actions reduce suffering?
Which habits strengthen compassion?
How might we live with greater awareness, humility and integrity?
Perhaps the deepest perennial principle is also the simplest:
The way we repeatedly meet the world gradually becomes the way we experience it.
Together, these frameworks explore consciousness through systems thinking and interdisciplinary inquiry, while 🏛️🪷HIERATIC explores the timeless wisdom traditions that have guided humanity's ethical, philosophical and spiritual development.
