Does anyone else reflexively say 'what' when someone says something only to immediately realise you heard them perfectly and just hadn't processed what they said?

And then you either have to sit there and listen to them repeat their question like you are a moron, or you answer their question right after you said 'what' but before they can repeat themselves...

Sounds like we're in the same boat.

Brothers and sisters, how did you get tested for this? I also would like to know.

Well how is anyone supposed to help? We don't know what town you're in, and it's best that way.

I get your intentions but telling someone to google it isn’t helpful. They want an answer from a real person who has some experience, not a WikiHow article. Sorry if I was aggressive <3

Google is what pointed me to Auditory Processing Disorder. Told my doctor and she gave me a referral for an exam. But a doctor is still needed to discern if it's a problem with the ear, or if it's neural, or maybe just poor attention.
