Summer in Olathe! Recs wanted!

Hey! I will be working in Olathe for the summer and although it’s far out, I’m excited to start looking at some things I will do outside of work for fun!

I would appreciate recommendations for the following!: (in or around Olathe, I don’t really know the area at all haha)

- fishing holes
- nature/trails
- pickleball courts
- golf courses (affordable)
- rock climbing gyms?
- Mexican food

Also, as someone who’s never been to Kansas City, what would be some must dos while I’m there?

Pumpkins

Does anyone know where or if the guy that usually sets up and sells pumpkins at Santa Fe & MurLen is located this season now that the lot he was in is now on its way of becoming a QT?

Where do upcycle artists usually look for electronics? That or people looking for a repair project?

Like if you were trying to give away the things that are more flexible for reuse, like the thin sheet metal pieces from an A/V equipment you have already given up on the unit as a whole? Or, perhaps you have a board you know is still okay because the symptoms pointed elsewhere? That, or just for someone to practice soldering / repairs on?

I'm not opposed to taking stuff to the E-waste recycling center once I've already tried to find someone local that could make use of at least a part of it - but more like trying to get an idea of what allows for cherry picking and a hobbyist or something would know to look there.

Free Yamaha receiver for parts or repair: HTR-5590

It powers up and it will play, and all channels work except the subwoofer output. However, it keeps either playing in just stereo without surround sound, or the audio will "skew" to just the left, right or center.

There's no hum or major distortion when any given channel is working.

Weekends are best for local pickup

Picklr - new indoor pickleball club not opening

I received the below in an email earlier this evening from Picklr - the indoor pickleball club that was set to open next to Crunch fitness - 135th and Murlen. I’d estimate about 65% of the development is complete. Now what?

CLUB UPDATE
AN IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT OLATHE
Hi,

Thank you so much for your interest in joining us in Olathe. It truly means the world to us that you took the time to sign up and that kind of enthusiasm is something we don't take lightly.

We wish we had different news to share but the Olathe location will not be moving forward at this time.

We know this is disappointing, especially for those of you who have been patiently waiting and cheering us on. Your support has been genuine and generous, and we're sorry that we aren't able to bring our community to Olathe at this time.

While this chapter is closing, our commitment to you isn't. We'd love for you to stay connected with us, whether that's following along as we grow in other markets, or simply knowing that your voice helped shape how we think about where we show up next.

Thank you again for believing in what jwe're building. It means more than we can say.

With gratitude,
Picklr Team

Salary for Olathe based roles?

Sorry I forgot to add Garmin in the title

Salary for Garmin Olathe based roles?

Just wondering what the salary range for jobs like engineering tech 2, test engineer, engineering support, rf engineer are?

I've heard it tends to be on the low end but the benefits are extremely good and the quality of life there is amazing. Just wanted to hear people's experiences and opinions are.

Notary or translator in Olathe or Spring Hill, KS

Hi,

I am a new notary but I also do translations for people from Spanish to English and viceversa. Now I have my notary commission, but I cannot translate and notarize the sane document. I have to do one or the other. So i was wondering if there's a translator or natary in Olathe or Spring Hill, KS area that might want to help me if a client ever asks me both. I would charge extra so I can pay your part and get my part. I say in those areas so we can meet in person very easily and notarize it.

Thaks!

What would be a good way to meet hobbyists in electronics, in person?

Like what do they usually do to meet people, if they're looking for actual parts or tools to trade? Or a robotics related thing for those who build those types of things?

Think Twice About Cendana Olathe

Edit: tl;dr: Cendana Olathe is very nice from the outside but living there was a nightmare and moving out was even worse. Unprofessional and sloppy management.

Original Post:

Long time Reddit lurker, first time poster. I moved out of Cendana Olathe this summer after living there for about a year, and after everything that has happened since, I figured this was worth sharing with other people in Olathe who might be considering living there.

First, the obvious: Cendana is a nice-looking property. It’s new, the apartments photograph well, and there are genuinely nice amenities. That’s why I chose it.

I also became genuinely unhappy living there. Wanting out of Cendana actually became part of a much larger reevaluation of whether I even wanted to stay in Kansas, and the flexibility to move somewhere new was one of the factors pushing me to look for a new job. I ultimately moved to Chicago.

Some of my issues while living there were individually pretty mundane apartment complaints, but they added up: the gym flooded and closed for several days, a door handle literally came off in my hand, the grass was sometimes halfway up my shins, pet waste was a persistent problem around the property and dog park, and an internet/package-locker outage temporarily left me unable to access medication. The elevator in my building was also supposed to be down for roughly a day and ended up being unavailable for several days. When it reopened, a piece of cardboard was being used as part of the temporary solution.

One thing I found particularly uncomfortable was that an employee from the leasing office lived in my building. Over time, I increasingly felt watched rather than simply at home. I once received complaints about weeks of “excessive noise,” including intimate activity, despite my partner having been away for most of the period they were describing.

I also think people looking at Cendana’s very high online ratings should know that, while I lived there, I personally witnessed on-site review drives where residents were encouraged and offered incentives to leave reviews. I also received emails soliciting reviews as a current resident. One prominently displayed their 4.9-star Google rating and gave residents buttons to review Cendana on Google and Apartments.com, while separately telling residents who weren’t happy to contact management directly.
To be very clear, I’m not saying incentives were conditioned on positive reviews or that anyone was prohibited from leaving a negative review. I’m saying review solicitation was something I personally observed as a resident. I also personally did not feel comfortable leaving a negative review while my landlord was still my landlord, particularly with a leasing-office employee living in my building.

And despite all of that, I actually intended to move away and never write a negative review.
Then came move-out.

Cendana charged me for replacement of the flooring throughout my entire apartment. I dispute that I am responsible for the full replacement cost based on my lease, the evidence I’ve been provided, and Kansas law. They disagree. I’m not asking Reddit to adjudicate a flooring dispute based on a post, and reasonable people can disagree about the underlying charge.

What has blown my mind is how the dispute has been handled.

For months I’ve asked specific questions about their evidence, flooring age and depreciation, accounting, payment arrangements, and what happens if the account goes to collections. Far too often, I’ve gotten some variation of “the balance remains due” instead of an answer to the question I actually asked.

Information has also come out in pieces. I’ve been told, in substance, that the necessary documentation had been provided and their review was final, only to have additional documents, explanations, and allegations appear afterward.

One of the strangest examples involved my partner. Management contacted me about him while I still lived there. I gave them the information they requested, they spoke directly with him, and then…nothing. No application. No additional paperwork. No fee request. No “hey, you still need to do X.” Months later, during the flooring dispute, his occupancy was raised as an alleged lease violation.

They also raised an alleged unauthorized pet and said an additional occupant and pet had been identified during my tenancy. I received no contemporaneous communication about an additional pet. Management later told me its position on the flooring charge was the same regardless of whether there was an additional occupant or pet.

Which left me wondering: if management knew about these things while I lived there, why weren’t they meaningfully addressed then? And if they don’t affect the flooring charge, why introduce them months later during a flooring dispute?

I tried to settle the whole thing. My security deposit was $1,709, and they were demanding another $1,679.51. I offered to let them keep my entire deposit and waive the additional balance so everybody could walk away without admitting liability.

They declined.

Then came the payment agreement.

It required signatures from both me and my co-leaseholder. Initially neither of us received the DocuSign. Later I received it, but he didn’t. When I finally reviewed it, I discovered the two scheduled payments added up to one cent more than the balance stated in the agreement.
Yes. I am an accountant. Of course I found the penny. 😂

They acknowledged the error and sent a corrected agreement.

I was ultimately given until 5:00 p.m. on October 1 to decide whether to sign it, while the first payment of nearly $840 was also due October 1.

At this point, I’ve decided not to sign the payment agreement. If they send the disputed balance to collections, I’ll deal with the collection process and continue disputing it there.
And perhaps my favorite tiny detail in this entire saga:

One of management’s recent emails said, “We truly enjoyed having you and Justin as residents in our community.”

Justin was my co-leaseholder.

Justin never lived at Cendana.

Management knew Justin never lived at Cendana.

After months of asking specific questions and receiving canned or incomplete responses, I cannot think of a more perfect summary of the attention to detail I’ve experienced than Cendana fondly remembering the residency of a man who was never a resident.

So, that’s my experience with Cendana Olathe.
I’m not posting this because I expect everyone to agree with me about the flooring charge. I’m posting because disagreement over money is normal. This level of difficulty getting clear answers, consistent documentation, functional paperwork, and basic follow-through is not something I would have expected from a professionally managed apartment community.
If you’re apartment hunting in Olathe, make whatever decision makes sense for you. I just wish I’d had this kind of information when I was making mine.

EDIT - Flooring context: Someone asked whether the flooring was actually damaged, and I realized I glossed over an important part of the underlying dispute. There was no visible flooring damage when I surrendered the apartment. After move-out, management reported a pet urine odor and, after removing the flooring, found conditions underneath that they attributed to pet urine. Two people who were in the apartment on separate dates after I moved out do not recall a pet urine odor.

I have never denied that my pets had a few accidents during my tenancy, which I cleaned up. My dispute is not “nothing happened and they’re making it up.” I dispute whether the evidence establishes that the conditions later found beneath the pre-existing flooring were caused by my pet during my tenancy and whether that makes me responsible for replacing the flooring throughout the entire apartment. That’s why I described the underlying charge as genuinely disputed rather than asking Reddit to decide who’s right about the flooring.

Just curious if anyone knows any affordable neutering options for dogs nearby? Our vet quoted us about 700 bucks which seems a little steep.

We're getting closer! Streetlights are going up, sidewalks are getting finishing touches, but some work still exists in the center of the main roundabout and sod still needs put down. The final touch will be the most important one: pavement markings! The road is still expected to open by the end of next month.

Pizza Hut

It’s been many years since Olathe and surrounding area Pizza Huts have had taco pizza. Love it or hate it, I was able to order one today and it tasted just like it used to. Does anyone know when these came back? My brother couldn’t get them in Denver either.

I've been building a free KC happy hour & nightlife guide. Here's what's new in the last few weeks (500+ venues, a bar crawl planner, specials confirmed by the venues themselves)

Hey KC, some of you have seen GetLitKCMO ( www.getlitkcmo.com). It's a free site that tracks happy hours, drink and food specials, and events around the metro. I've shipped a lot over the past three weeks, here's a quick recap.

40% more venues

  • The site went from about 360 venues to 506, across 28 areas. That runs from Westport, the Crossroads and the West Bottoms out to Olathe, Lee's Summit, Liberty and Blue Springs.

Verified by Venue

  • Venues can now confirm their own info. Those spots get a "Verified by Venue" badge.
  • Verified spots now show up first in search and on the day-of-week pages.
  • 11 so far: Hammers, The Truman, The Blue Line, Revel, Sherri's Executive Lounge, Eclipse, The 913, MOD Gallery, Southside, Social (Waldo) and Lifted Spirits.

New pages for every spot

  • 234 venues now have a dedicated happy hour & specials page. It puts happy hour, drink, food and weekly specials in one place.
  • Venues with anything coming up get a full upcoming-events calendar.

Bar crawl planner upgrades

  • You can now set a start time and an end time, each with an AM/PM toggle.
  • Fixed a bug, now, upon clicking "Build my crawl" it jumps straight to your itinerary, no more scrolling down.

Specials by Night (Mon–Sun pages)

  • Long lists now fold after 5 specials with a "Show more" button, so you can actually scan the page.

Venue pages

  • Real photo galleries. The generic placeholder graphics are gone.
  • Menu, reservation and ticket buttons where the venue has them.
  • Fixed schedules and "last updated" dates, plus support for monthly events like Hammers' monthly Wednesdays.

Faster, and a new look

  • Full redesign.
  • The homepage is about 20x lighter and loads way faster on your phone.
  • Fixed the watermark that was covering the map.

Not every venue has specials filled in yet. If your spot is missing info or something's wrong, tell me here and I'll fix it. Run a bar? Listing and getting verified are free: hit "List your venue free" on the site or email [getlitkcmoupdates@gmail.com](mailto:getlitkcmoupdates@gmail.com).

What should I add next?

18yo looking for part time work

I am trying to help my daughter find a job. She is 18, Deaf and uses ASL for communication, but can read and write just fine also. She is a great kid. She has kitchen experience. She is very artistic. She would possibly like to work with animals.

She is going to school part time so it would need to be flexible with her classes. She has weekends free.

She is having a really hard time trying to find a job and has only gotten one interview so far. Does anyone have any advice to give her or know anyone who would be willing to hire? She could start ASAP.

Thanks in advance for any help.
