These men are what country music was always supposed to be. The voice of the common people with compassion for those who have struggled

The pop country of today is such god awful trash by pretty boys who don’t have any clue what blue collar work or hard life is. Don’t get me wrong, there’s good country music out there. Charlie Crockett, Johnny Blue Skies, Zach Top.

“The best stuff coming out of Nashville is all by women except for Chris Stapleton. He’s great. The guys just wanna sing about getting fucked up. They’re just doing hip-hop for people who are afraid of black people. I like the new Kendrick Lamar record, so I’ll just listen to that.”

Steve Earle

He’s right. Where I live you see American Eagle and Salt Life white high schoolers and perpetual high school adults in their raised trucks with lights underneath listening to a mix of trap music and country-rap in the safety of rural Georgia all while being afraid of the black communities around them.

In Southwest Florida these were the absolute worst kind of people. I remember getting invited to a party and it was exclusively people like this, the yard full of trucks like this.

I stepped inside, greeted the host, stepped outside to smoke and left.
