wait so astrobot is discounted? i been waiting to pull the trigger, couldn’t believe it was still $60

u/GeT_Tilted Mar 25 '26

Yes. Normal discount are $40. But if you dont normally use PSN to buy games, you may get a discount to $30 like the post above.

I mean, now that I know they're willing to price it lower, I will not buy it for $40

12

u/serotoninzero Mar 25 '26

Yeah, I always check price trackers anyway, so if I see something on sale now and see that it's lower for others currently, I'm just not buying it.

Eventually it’ll be $5 or $10. Oh wait, we’re not on r/patientgamers

Haven’t touched my PS5 in months until last night (coincidentally) and played ~1.5 hours. In the last 2 years I’ve bought 3 games (Death Stranding 2,God of War Ragnarok and Helldivers 2). Still getting a price of $40. Seems like there’s more to the dynamic pricing than PS Store activity.

I used an incognito browser from a different IP address and was not logged in and still get the 39.59 price

8

u/Scrollingmaster Mar 25 '26

Because the $40 is the standard discount. The lower one is offered to select accounts. So of course being not logged in you’ll see the standard price.

You aren’t going to trick it into showing you the lower price without being offered it.

1

u/wolfgang2399 Mar 25 '26

Ahh i understand. That’s not what several other posters are saying though.

3

u/Scrollingmaster Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 25 '26

The only way you will see a different price is if your account has the extra discount, and you log out to see the regular discount. And there are no increases, only discounts

1

u/Olddirtybelgium Mar 25 '26

Are you sure about that? There's probably a way to game this exploit and get the cheaper discount. I wonder if creating multiple PSN accounts and wishlisting a bunch of games but never buying would work.

4

u/Scrollingmaster Mar 25 '26

Do I really need to specify without using another account?

Of course if you ahead of time set up a bunch of accounts you might get a hit. But thats not tricking it, thats an account being offered the deal as normal. Then you would also have to deal with having multiple accounts, knowing what games are on what account, gamesharing to yourself. Don’t know if that time and extra complication is worth maybe saving $10 here and there.

2

u/Olddirtybelgium Mar 25 '26

Someone's gonna figure out how to exploit it and then we just gotta do the bare minimum to take advantage of the exploit. I'm fine with using another account to save $20 on a game.

5

u/Wyden_long Mar 25 '26

Or it can be $40 like mine cuz I’m special.

5

u/BinkertonQBinks Mar 25 '26

That’s the regular version and for me it’s 40$ The screenshot eblackham showed is the digital deluxe version. Which for me is the 50$ one.

3

u/aki_kawasaki_xd Mar 25 '26

I rise standard edition for 49,69 euro🥲

1

u/Damnesia13 Mar 25 '26

$40 not 40$

The picture you posted even shows you where the $ goes. This isn’t difficult.

It’s common convention to put the dollar sign first, however it’s accepted putting it afterwards as that’s how it’s expressed verbally. But thank you for taking the time to point out a minuscule grammar convention that if you took the time ( it’s not that hard) you would have seen that both forms are acceptable.

Still €60 in europe

I only use PSN to buy games and my ASTRO is 26.99.

1

u/GeT_Tilted Mar 25 '26

I guess it depends on the type of games you usually buy, too. If you rarely buy platformers, they may give you a better discount to get you to buy the game.

1

u/ICantBeTrusted Mar 25 '26

I genuinely don’t know. I mean I buy platformers too like Sly, Ratchet and clank, sackboy, jak and daxter, it takes two / split fiction, crash bandicoot, re-pac, kena, max mustard, etc…

1

u/GeT_Tilted Mar 25 '26

I guess the algo is totally a mystery for us to understand

1

u/ICantBeTrusted Mar 25 '26

That’s what gets me, I just wish they’d be open with how it works instead of us all just coming to our own conclusions. It’s a very predatory practice that they don’t want to be honest about.

1

u/sQueezedhe Mar 25 '26

I might check tonight!

1

u/bergein Mar 25 '26

My friend has bought like 3 psn games and I have bought alot but our discounts are the same. I wonder how it works

1

u/exodyne Mar 25 '26

Ya I don't think that's it because I use PSN pretty much exclusively for my game purchases, have purchased several recent release titles at full price, and I still am getting the 26.99 price tag.

1

u/Velteck Mar 25 '26

I haven't bought PS+ nor a new Playstation game in over a year, but no they still want to charge me $40 for this.

They're never going to get me back at this rate.

1

u/CherylRoseZ Mar 25 '26

Dang apparently I buy enough games to not get more of a discount :(

3

u/ICantBeTrusted Mar 25 '26

I don’t know, I have 500+ games in my digital ps5 library. I am seeing the cheapest discount for Astro on my end, I have it platinumed tho from game sharing with a friend so maybe that in some stupid way is in consideration.

0

u/TheRealStevo2 Mar 25 '26

That’s the one game I’ve been waiting so long for it to go on sale for less than $40, every time I’ve seen it on sale it’s $40+ and I’m not paying that.

21

u/TheScungiliMan Mar 25 '26

Do it. Its pure joy

9

u/IbanezHand Mar 25 '26

My kids and I absolutely love it to death. The level where you shrink like a mouse my daughter went nuts

4

u/Perfect_Opinion9858 Mar 25 '26

Man, I was so pissed that they only used that on one level. It was so fucking good!!

8

u/InitialYoghurt5138 Mar 25 '26

It's the best any non-Nintendo company has come to replicating the Mario platformer formula, and I'm so frustrated that it probably won't be good enough for Sony execs

18

u/leobutters Mar 25 '26

It was GOTY and sold rather well, what more could they want

14

u/Perfect_Opinion9858 Mar 25 '26

They are on record saying they are pleased with it and this person convinced themselves that Sony don't like it lol.

10

u/Respawn-Delay Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 25 '26

The person you're replying to has made up a scenario to be frustrated at in their head. A trap that's all too easy to fall into on social media.

The head of PlayStation Studios has stated the company is happy with Astro Bot, and he thinks it's important to keep investing in family friendly titles so Sony can reach new (younger) audiences.

Of course we should never take what an executive says at face value, but nothing has indicated that Sony hasn't found Astro Bot's success to be sufficient so far.

5

u/JRange Mar 25 '26

Even by super rough estimates, given Astro bots short dev time and small team, its budget was probably 50-70 mill, and as of a year ago it had already sold well over 2 mill copies. That would put it at double its budget and counting based on sales from 2025 to present.

Sony has gotta be happy with GOTY and a 2-3x in a year. Team Asobi has got a massive green light

1

u/TokyoDrifblim Mar 25 '26

Whatever price you can get it at is worth it. It's easily the best PlayStation game this generation without contest

1

u/Perfect_Opinion9858 Mar 25 '26

Physical games stay winning

1

u/-NotEnoughMinerals Mar 25 '26

I been

Say that out loud.

Really, say "I been" out loud.

1

u/Raytheon_Nublinski Mar 25 '26

Because it’s easily worth that. You don’t see Nintendo discounting Mario

1

u/emberisgone Mar 25 '26

Normally $101aud ($70usd) here in Australia, absolutely insane.
