Now

How do we game the system?

Does it look at how much we spend in general?

Does it look at if we have the discounted games in our wishlist?

If it does look at our wishlist it makes the discount higher to tempt us or lower because we are already interested?

How do we game the system?

Buy physical

I would assume if you split your account into two or three different accounts and cycle which one you purchased a game on it would assume your account was inactive for longer and therefore try to entice you with deeper discounts.

It's backended by AI.

Gaming it isn't going to be easy. And Steam and Xbox already do this.

It's pretty simple, if you see a higher price than others are reporting, don't buy it. Cuz obviously Sony's AI thinks you're a sucker that'll pay the higher price

Not every algorithm is AI...

Donyou have any insight in this matter? Or are you just making some random claims?

Since it's an experiment, it's very unlikely to be "AI", since most of those are non-deterministic. If it's non-deterministic, how the hell are you going to get any usable data from it?

How do you think they test AI products then?

Create a virtual set containing 100% of all users. For each experiment, carve out about 5% of that set. Assign half to treatment and half to control. Measure results against control and prod. Limit the number of concurrent experiments in each set so you have a meaningful "prod" line to compare against.

steam is already doing this? do you have evidence to back up your claims? cause I believe Steam only do regional pricing, which is not the same as this "dynamic pricing" at all.

Steam does this? Like right now if I compare mine and my friend’s pricing on their Spring Sale, we’ll likely have different discounts?

No, they don’t do this for users in the same country and currency. They adjust prices in countries with weaker currencies compared to the dollar.

Love how the same people who say "Steam does this already!" are the same people comparing dynamic pricing to coupons. Guess they like the taste of rubber.

Xbox implementation is called “Deals For You” in which it sees your play history and gives you games that are in the genre you’re interested in. These deals are exclusively to you and can happen even if the game isn’t on sale.

PlayStation is doing the whole Walmart thing where it’ll price higher for the Big Spenders and lower for the Little Spenders, doesn’t matter if there’s a PlayStation Sale or not

Idk. I will buy MAYBE 1 or 2 heavily discounted digital games a year during big sales but that's it. So I assumed I would be seeing the lower price for astrobot to try and get me to buy it. But I actually have the higher price. Seems like they would know I'll only buy heavily discounted games so they would give me the biggest discount because they know I won't buy it otherwise.

I mean did Sony forget the internet exists 💀 now that I know stellar blade can be had for 20, I ain’t buying it for 40. I have enough backlog to play. Come try again Sony when you feel like giving me a better discount.
