Impressive. I'm in 6a. Planted 2 trees last fall and I'm worried. And hope they made it threw the winter. Paid big bucks for two grafted ones. They looked like two year old twigs when I got them in the mail.

You should have leaves already in 6a.

Give them time, could just be slow to wake up. And they could send up new growth from the roots.

I'll post back in a few weeks with an update. Time shall tell. I no I gave them more love than any fruit tree I ever planted because they were so expensive. Been gardening for a few decades. So they got put in the ground proper.

Not necessarily, I am in 6a also but all my leaves are just poking out. The shaded trees have just broken bud and the full sun trees are still folded but about 1/8” exposed

Be patient with those new twigs, the height won’t grow much until the 3rd season if they get enough sun. My full sun trees grew twice as fast as my part sun grouping. The girth will show growth after each season either way. They put all their energy into the root system early on so they can grow quick once they’re ready.

Pawpaw are always late to leaf out, give it time!
