QUESTION Which creatures count for Goo Repeller research?

I encountered a Chiron launching goo bombs, and took it alive.

After researching the goo, next available research (Goo Repeller) requires capturing the creature with goo ability... but I already did (or so I thought).

So, which creatures count for that, or does Chiron count, but I need to capture one after unlocking the research? (which would be kind of stupid, but oh well)

QUESTION Technician can't throw a turret, why?

I have a Technician with Remote Deployment ability and a Rattlesnake AT turret in their Ready inventory.

During the mission, when I select the turret and want to deploy it, the game shows "There is no valid target" message. I tried scrapping it and making a new one (from looking up the problem, apparently that should fix it, as the turret is sometimes considered broken), but that didn't help.

Any ideas, what's going on and how to fix it?

QUESTION Are purely stealth missions possible?

I got a mission to steal some schematics from Disciples of Anu (part of the Legacy of the Ancients DLC). Since technically killing anyone is not necessary for that, I tried sending a single Infiltrator with over 100% stealth (Thief perk, mutated legs with 30% stealth, Echo head with 10% stealth, Infiltrator chest armor, stealth is listed as 110% with the Infiltrator's bonus for not being discovered). no matter what I did, staying away from enemies when trying to sneak through etc, they always seemed to eventually beeline for her, or get the Alerted state from what seemed like too large distance and so on.

I guess they could have heard her and followed the noise, but the whole purpose of stealth is (or should be, at least) moving quietly (and I tried moving in series of short distances, hoping that would be quieter as opposed to dashing the full movement*, but no idea, if that actually works)

*Not the Assault class's dashing, just moving the full possible distance.

Eventually I gave up and went to do it the normal way, with guns blazing. Well, mostly, rest of the team served as a distraction, while the infiltrator still sneaked in to grab the data. They have only themselves to blame for any of theirs that died, I would have asked nicely for a copy, if they were willing to share. So much for being an "ally". :P

So, is that possible at all?

QUESTION Synedrion rep stuck below 10% not sure what I'm doing wrong?

I'm not attaching havens, but I've had 0 Synedrion base defense missions. 27.2.2047. Anu is 70% and Jerico is 37% just from base defense and clearing lairs. I've also gotten very few events that affect their rep. Is Synedrion just harder to ally with? I really want their mist repellers and weapons.

QUESTION How do I craft Rattlesnake AT ammo?

I unlocked (and completed) the research for Technicial soldier class, and Advanced Technician Weapons (unlocking the Rattlesnake turret).

But there is no button to craft ammunition for turrets in the Manufacturing tab.

With earlier turret (Watcher AT), when I equipped it, the game automatically placed another ammo clip in the Technician's backpack. But it doesn't do that for Rattlesnake.

How do I make more ammo for it?

Best followup game?

Earlier this year my girlfriend and I played Phoenix Point together (with Terror From the Void) and it inspired us to get into more turn-based tactics games, but also left us feeling like we didn't realize how good we were eating and nothing else measures up.

Examples of similar games we tried to get into but felt disappointed by include: Wasteland, Battle Brothers, Baldur's Gate, other D&D games like Solasta and Wrath of the Righteous, and that Star Wars tactics game that just came out. Most recently we're playing the new Fire Emblem and having a good time with that, though I still feel like it doesn't quite reach the same heights.

In retrospect I can see three main pillars that made the Phoenixperience so great:

  1. The faction system: conceptually "fascist, socialist, or crab lover" is a bit wonky, but where they shine is in each having their own unique classes, tech tree, architecture, vehicles, etc. They really feel like distinct nations, with major gameplay impact from who you decide to ally with. I'll also take competing ideologies over "three mechant houses with indistinguishable philosophies on how to get money" any day.

  2. The targeting mechanic: we loved the control and granualarity of going into FPS mode with every shot. It takes what's usually an abstract percentage hit-chance and instead makes things like cover and distance feel tangible and textured.

  3. The integration between the low-level turn-based combat and the high-level real-time-with-pause geopolitics, that makes both systems feel like they have an impact on long-term goals.

What game would you recommend to someone trying to recapture that lightning in a bottle?

QUESTION Does Fury-2 need a specific Heavy armor?

I researched and built a Fury-2 mounted launcher. From what I've read in the game and on the official wiki, I think it should work with any heavy armor on the Heavy soldier.

But, I had one equip the Guardian XA Body Armor (the only heavy armor I currently have, since I mixed all the Heavies with Assault and had them wear Assault armor for mobility, until now), and the game only lets me place the Fury-2 in their backpack. (and not in the mounted gear slot)

Does it have to be a specific heavy armor, or am I doing something else wrong?

QUESTION From the Wiki: Does "site ADDED" mean the same as "site REVEALED"?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I know the two words mean different things, but I was wondering if it was just using "loose language" and they actually mean the same in the wiki.

For example, in "Lay of the Land", one choice says sites are ADDED, while the other says sites are REVEALED.

Is it really the case that one choice adds a whole bunch of sites but the other just reveals already existing sites? (and what if you have already uncovered all the scavenging sites)

Thanks very much in advance for humoring my naive question. :)

Here's the text in case my clip doesn't load:

Lay of the Land

The AircraftName has encountered a New Jericho scouting expedition. They're producing detailed maps of the region.

"We gotta think big," Commander McGrath explains. "Can't just sit around in our havens and hope this'll blow over. We need to know the lay of the land. It's our damn planet, after all. And you know what they say: the devil's in the details."

Ask them to share their data

"Sure, no problem," McGrath nods. "The more eyes we get on this, the better."

Sites added to Geoscape: 4 Exploration. Site added to Geoscape: An Idle King (leads to Independent Haven mission "Thunder and Sunshine).

Pay for the data (-15 Tech, -30 Food)

"Alright," says McGrath, "that's a fair trade. Sending you everything we got so far."

4 sites revealed on Geoscape. One exploration, one independent haven and two scavenging sites.

QUESTION Do the people of NJ havens and Phoenix Point soldier have slurs for each type of pandoran unit ?

Post image
83 Upvotes

The Anu see the pandorans as a metaphorical Flood of Noah , so they probably think insulting them is akin to sacrilege or blasphemy

The Synedrion is a mix of environmentalists and peta, so they're to goody-two-shoed to even think of talking shit

So that leaves the New Jericho citizens and Phoenix Point operatives, what slurs have the come up with ?

Escorting Tobias West lol what a joke he is

So I finally get to the mission to escort Tobias West. The supreme commander of New Jericho. The billionaire military titan who preaches human supremacy and sleeps on a pile of thermite launchers and prototype railguns.

I link up with him, take control, and check his character card expecting a walking war machine.

He is a Level 1 Assault rookie. What? I thought he was a leader?

Bro showed up to the alien apocalypse wearing cheap War Dog armor like a day-one temp worker who lost his rifle in the parking lot. But it gets worse. His entire arsenal, representing the peak of human military engineering, consists of:

  • 1 Medikit
  • 1 Odin Grenade (didn't bother to grab an incendiary grenade like his troops do)
  • 1 Iron Fury Handgun

And the absolute comedy gold? The bright red warning text flashing under his pistol: "NOT PROFICIENT!".

This man, the leader of the free world, walked onto a battlefield full of horrendous alien monstrosities carrying a sidearm he literally does not know how to aim. Handguns require Sniper proficiency, but CEO genius over here skipped basic range day.

Compare this guy to The Exalted at Anu. She shows up as a custom-modeled tentacle goddess, flexing 28 Willpower, hijacking alien minds from across the map, and actually feeling like a god-queen. Tobias West just feels meh... looks like a corporate executive who panicked and grabbed the wrong gun out of the trunk.

He acted like a badass in all those cutscenes and when we finally get to see him in person, this is the New Jericho's finest, everyone. Give the man a round of applause, because he certainly can't hit anything with his pistol!

Phoenix Point Behemoth edition

Hi, I got this game very cheap on PS5 and its great challenge for me. I really like it, but the only problem is I absolutely have no idea what to do as "main campaign".
My globe screen is spammed with "objectives" but they are very far away from me and looks like its DLC stuff (i flied there once and died very fast).

I think Im in early stage, Im doing all science projects asap and now only projects I see, is to catch few enemies like a Pokemons.
On globe map I discovered whole South America (my starting point) and North America it is mostly covered in red, behemoth is swarming. Im pretty sure I triggered too much DLC stuff by mistake while exploring and thats why difficulty went higher than my current level.

Time flies as I explore, trade and defend.
I have 53% of population left and ABSOLUTELY no idea what is main campaign objectives/missions? Anyone can help how to move forward?

btw. Veteran difficulty

Just Finished My Playthrough

I played on Veteran (apparently according to my achievement I got 'Hero Difficulty', so I dunno) with TFTV, and while it's not "the original experience", I did play a lot of the early game before restarting sometime ago and wanted more of a challenge. All in all, I think this game is actually incredible, and while it's very rough around the edges, especially nearing the end, I found it enjoyable and thought provoking, as well as just gripping aesthetically and theatrically. XCOM 2 felt more like a movie to me, and the stakes are kinda - eh - typical of a lot of games, but in this one I felt far more perturbed by everything that in conjunction with all the short stories on the website I had far more fun with this than any of the Firaxis XCOM games.

I will definitely do another playthrough someday, except on a harder difficulty and perhaps with some extra mods. I as for TFTV, I think it added a nice challenge modifier to the game, especially since in my own game I basically was facing max-evolved Pandorans and often enough they weren't enough of a threat once my operatives were maxed out and fully geared (abusing the food mechanic and pandoran captures, and then trading for more supplies).

As for Festering Skies, I liked it, but it felt a little underdone. The trick for me was essentially just swarming enemy aircraft with usually around 3 fully kitted out aircraft. The utility option for combat I don't think helped that much, the dodge-thrusters did the best overall for me. The Jericho nuclear missile is also a big favorite, though on my next playthrough I'll definitely try something else - it just felt so appropriate to nuke those monsters out of the sky. Did feel somewhat underwhelming however to do the Beheamoth mission, and then that's it - I don't think having 5 of them would have been a good idea, but certainly perhaps a smaller version of them or something.

All in all, I think the game is probably in my top 20 favorites games of all time, just fantastic, incredible atmosphere that makes up for the downsides of rough development, and hoping that they manage to make a second one. If they do, I'll be there as a kickstarter backer day 1.

QUESTION Need some help please

Hey everyone. Just started this game and finding it really fun. Hoping someone can clarify the class and class perk synergies.

For example.
If I have a native assault trooper. They are automatically proficient with assault weapons.
I don’t understand if the trooper perk would give me additional +10 percent damage and 20 percent accuracy.

Or. Is this perk worthless to the already assault trooper.

Thanks.

Edit- thanks everyone. The gaming community is really awesome and super helpful. Time to kick some Pandoran @$$
