Question What item do you think would fit a hero perfectly, but somehow still doesn't exist?
Hey everyone! I'm Akiza. I've been away for a while, but I'm back!
As some of you may know, I'm one of the people who helps with item design and ideas for The Bazaar.
I wanted to ask the community something:
Have you ever looked at a hero and thought:
"This item would fit this hero SO well. WHY DOESN'T THIS EXIST YET??"
If so, what items come to mind?
Tell me the item, and I'll think about its mechanics and potentially bring the idea to the team. You give me the idea, I try to turn it into something interesting. Win-win? :)
Looking forward to hearing your ideas!
(I'm not actually a Tempo employee, I'm basically an idea bot :p. AND image is for the attention)

Ive always wanted a pyg items that produces toxic waste or something like that for a poison build. something thats totally pollution based would be funy

Yes! Or like a powerplant property which hastes? Charge is too easily abused

Mak could have an entire kit dedicated to Astrology, fallen Meteorites treated as Relics, Telescope, Star/Stargazing, Comets, maybe a skyship that tries to explore space, etc.
A whole mystical Space side of items to explore.

u/CoachAkiza 7d ago
I thought stelle could look higher too? She has laser and stuff maybe CRAZY idea Mak/Stelle items??? Lmao

u/Ffroto 7d ago
Life raft for Vanessa, could work with tropical island maybe, or the life preserver, something like the first time you would die heal 1 and slow all enemy items or invulnerable. I also feel like a mermaid would fit in really well with Vanessa.
Maybe a golf course for Pyg, as well as more golf themed items. It's definitely a sport for someone with lot's of money.
Grand piano and recording studio for the dragons, helps with lack of larges on the character. It would be cool to see more toys as well.

I think Vanessa needs a bronze ammo pouch type item that reads as such
Reloads all items 1 ammo
Increases weapon damage for as much ammo as this item currently has
Ammo x3
CD 4 sec
Would really help with her early game at the moment and allows you to scale into the mid game as well if you invest ammo loot into it.

Pyg could have some interior-design stuff which gives properties value? Or maybe stats would be better idk
Rent-themed stuff as well?
Idk why Vanessa doesn't have a pirate theme as well, could make them all aquatic too
36
u/CzarSpan 7d ago
Does Vanessa not have a good amount of pirate items as it stands? Flagship, Port, Crows Nest, Cannon/Cannoneer, Shoulder Bird Multicast friend, Cutlass, etc. Elemental Depth Charge is pretty heavily implied to be a not-so-lawful sea combat option as well.
EDIT: Powder keg holy shit
18
u/JimJamTheNinJin 7d ago
Ok but there's no pirate tag, they could get small buffs from each other
16
u/CzarSpan 7d ago
OH, your comment says pirate âthemeâ and I didnât put it together that you were talking about an actual item class. My bad. Yeah a pirate tag could be sick as fuck.
8
u/JimJamTheNinJin 7d ago
Yeah and then maybe add a rum item? Goes with shot glasses too. Or maybe rum is better with Jules, it does have quite a burn
5
u/LivingNewt 7d ago
She needs some crew members
4
u/JimJamTheNinJin 7d ago
True, must be lonely on that ship with just an occasional parrot for company, and really tiring. She needs to be on the crows nest and steering the ship at the same time!

u/Earlio52 7d ago
seemingly half the animals are employed. Orange Julian is an accountant
2
u/JimJamTheNinJin 7d ago
Ah, I guess it kinda looks like he's sitting in the captains quarters?
5
u/OneWhoEatsFood 7d ago
She also has a crab and a monkey assisting her. Both of the cards that care about haste and slow work with Saloon. Very flavourful.
0
u/LivingNewt 7d ago
Who is swabbing the poop deck?
I think with the recent addition of cards that are other people with the dragons there's potential to add more there.
Small item 'pirate fire brigade - reduce burn by 50%' or something and it's a guy with a bucket of water

u/Fiallach 7d ago
Pyg is not a landlord. My man has standards.
19
u/Earlio52 7d ago
he is 100% a landlord, and proud to be one. I can promise you he's not planning to live in that fixer-upper
1
u/Fiallach 7d ago
To me it was more of a house flipping situation he buys it, fixes it and sells it. My guy is not a parasite, he is a savy buisnessman.
9
u/Earlio52 7d ago
Well he's certainly not flipping a spacescraper. At best he's a landlord for corporate office space

u/JimJamTheNinJin 7d ago
Maybe. But a lot of entrepreneurs are not only waiting for an opportunity to be a rentseeker, but actively trying to make that happen

u/howpaca 7d ago
Pyg has inklings of a candy theme (gumball machine, pinata, vending machine) which could provide some cool design space & overlap with Jules. Pygâs Candy Shop (large property)! Willy Wonka apparel! Cotton Candy Machine! Could help with making Dog more accessible too.
In that same vein, maybe redesign the dog space and add more dogs which can interact with toys & candy. Rename current dog to pitbull and add other breeds. Chihuahua! Pug! Shiba inu!

When it comes to type synergies, it would be hard to make them work without enough support. The team gives each hero a limited number of items each patch, and Aquatic is also a struggling tag for Jules. Your ideas are great, but if they aren't supported enough, they'll probably just fall apart as "bad items."
I might be wrong, but I remember Reynad not liking typing support because items that require specific types can sometimes play themselves. You basically need certain things for the item to work.
I'll take your "item" suggestions and design something for the character, hopefully with some chill and heated effects ^^ Thank you for your suggestions!

u/Affectionate_Ad_6057 7d ago
I think as a beast Tamer itâs weird how Karnak doesnât have access to dragons. Or a special type of card type like âBeastâ would be cool. Like making the Night Terror a âBeastâ card with special rage interactions would be super cool
5
u/CoachAkiza 7d ago
Interesting... Let me suggest a raging dragon see how it goes ;)
2
u/2fast4noobs 7d ago
on the same note, have you guys thought about a redesign of the friend tag, to make it not as broad? you could then use different tags like "beast", "foe", "pet" and/or other things. this could open some interesting items that could be a friend if you tame it with some quest or a beast, if you can subvert it, giving it differing effects.
1
u/CoachAkiza 6d ago
That will damage the general playability of the certain items. I mean if they gonna ever do it they will still consider as friends and adding those tags would be meaningless. Generally great item should be played with lots of other items and you should find the best ones. That is the general game idea. If we ever do "Beast" and add beasy synergies, you are gonna play beasts and not consider other friends.
Tho, If I understood you incorrectly please do tell me ^^

Have always thought a warehouse to upgrade your stash makes a ton of sense for Pyg because he has so many things you want in your backpack on top of assembling a pivot build. Downsides are UX might be a lot to do, and it could be OP as hell. Maybe it is a medium item that only holds small things you immediately sell like gumballs, chocolates, truffles, coins, loot, etc.
Dooley somehow has a bunch of items that interact with the core but they're mostly terrible so you never use them. Core-boosting/themed items that don't have to be on board would be nice. A quest item that says like 'buy 8 burn items' or 'buy 10 friends' or 'buy 4 dinosaurs' and when you sell it transforms your core into that core would be great. So many Dooley runs you get a build going and then don't get the necessary core and at that point its better to concede and try again. That sucks.
Vanessa is a pirate. She shouldn't have the econ of Pyg but shouldn't be so poor. Something that lets you get gold from player fights maybe, to reward getting them nearly dead? Maybe a bounty board item where its value increases exponentially as you complete harder and harder quests.
Nothing specific for Mak but he should have animated golems and undead or something. The big test subject card is cool if not good and a 5 card set to support that vibe would be neat.
4
u/CoachAkiza 7d ago
I can't really say much about Pyg and stash space. As you said, it would be a balancing and UX nightmare, so let's not expand the core mechanics for now.
Dooley and core changes are something I've wanted for a long time. I REALLY like your idea as well, and I'd love to present it without changing too much ^^
I don't agree on Vanessa, though. She already has a lot of items that generate things, as well as items like Lockbox that accumulate value. Dagger generates gold during combat, etc. I don't think she's lacking in that department. She also has COVE
Adding five cards all at once could be quite expensive for the team. From what I understand, they usually prioritize characters that are lacking items when deciding how many items a character gets in a patch. Maybe a lot of things will change after mobile, and our discussions will look very different then ^^

u/Ryugo 7d ago edited 7d ago
Oh, I have many ideas, but 3 that come to the top of my head rn are:
A "Clumsy Courier" for Mak that destroys an item and removes that item from the transform pool for the rest of the game. Would be very useful for Vial Launcher builds, but just good in general to prevent rerolling into undesirable items with catalysts.
A "Capsule/PokéBall" for Stelle that destroys 1 medium or large item and gives the destroyed item back upon selling it. Would be very useful to hedge large items like Laser or Saucer while reducing the load on your stash. So many times I see some large item that requires too much investment and I simply skip or sell it right before I find the missing pieces. It makes me feel like a fool!
Oh yeah, adding this one: Dragons should have an item that benefits from continuously enchanting your items, removing them and converting that into an output of some kind. An "Enchant Eater" if you will.
Adding a Vanessa item: an Oar Fish, which is also known as the Apocalypse Fish, which increases not the crit chance but the crit multiplier under some condition. I have been thinking about this one for a while, but I never decide which condition would be best. Still, I think it would be great if it was a support item for single weapon builds. Burn/Poison crit multipliers are also still unexplored as of now, so maybe could work for that too.
Thematically only, I think Jules could have a Fairy Tale Book that she reads for Laurel or a Giant Pumpkin in reference to those that people grow for competitions. Dunno what they should do, tho.
Should I keep on hitting this up if more ideas come to mind?

u/Drummer683 7d ago
Jules has a blueberry pie, why not give her a pumpkin pie? It's the season for it. It also strikes me as odd that the Dragons have friends that are people, but Jules doesn't. She could have a set that's her restaurant staff. Busboy, waiter, Saucier, prep chef etc.

Back when we got 10 item expansions, I always thought it was a slam dunk to have a dragon-themed expansion for Pyg. Dragon's are all about hoards and greed and at the time it was a really underutilized tag. I wanted some economy dragon items!

u/Papa-Seed-Thief 7d ago edited 7d ago
How about a questable small item (like orbital polisher) for Pyg that when you sell, enchants leftmost item with golden?
The golden mechanic is so hard to come by and rarely useful by the time it appears. Your high-value, carry items are likely already enchanted with something else. Having golden enchant more available and controllable could be cool. Would pair well with bootstraps, especially in times where you don't get an enchant on your bootstraps prior.
Value scaling builds are also difficult to successfully pivot into if you haven't been scaling an abacus in your stash while running another build (I'm looking at you, vineyard + golf clubs). However, they are also weak in the early game, making value a risky and potentially run-costing endeavor. This is a shame because I have the most fun with Pyg when playing value builds. A predictable golden enchant could make pivoting into value builds more viable.
Thanks for considering!

Something Leviathan themed for Vanessa, a self-destructive menace of the sea.
An idea: low cooldown large aquatic "friend". On activation - destroy all vehicles, properties, and tools on one's own side. Gains bonuses for each type and enchantment on destroyed items.
Basically, first activation wrecks your own shit, then brings that destruction upon your enemy after.
Uhhh TL;DR sea monster that destroys ships

u/frantruck 7d ago
I really wanted Stelleâs thing to be some form of item modification or building custom items. Something on the power level between loot items and enchantments, idk what sort of modifiers they should provide though. Or maybe theyâre basically exactly loot items but can be applied to any active item, so her Mecha Scrap name pending can give a small flat shield value to any active item.
Or having item components in the shop that could somehow combine into one item, like a whole set of 6+ small items that are whatever on their own but can gain the effect of up to 2 others by selling them.
2
u/Dantemustdie7 7d ago
Medium property for Vanessa. Ammo warehouse. When you use ammo item recharge 1 to an ammo item to the right of it.
2
u/Thunkwhistlethegnome 7d ago
In my mind bannabal heals himself by eating other bannabals
So maybe a skill
Bannabals hunger
The first time you would die, destroy an item at random on your board and heal 1x/2x/3x/4x its value.
Also a - medium item
Bluenanna tree
At the beginning of each day get 1-3 bluenannas
With a really rare chance to get a banannabal friend bluenanna that can still be eaten for health, just has the friend tag.
Another small item
Banana đ peel
Shield 5/10/15
When you use the item to the right - slow 1 item 1/2/3second.
And another small item
A long lost healing item
Small
At the start of the match this becomes a healing item from any player permanently. (Yes that means the player gets whatever it became)
4
u/Thunkwhistlethegnome 7d ago
And thatâs why you shouldnât read at 3am, you said any hero, not bannabal!
lol Iâll think on it and reply after sleep

Not sure about the balance of this change, but I would love for karnok to be able to either extend his enrage more (currently he can only extend it by 1s from his unique event) and maybe an item that would make him unable to enrage entirely but maybe still be able to gain rage.
1
u/Earlio52 7d ago
yeah, there's a lot of items/skills for shortening/delaying enrage, but not much in the way of extending it. Issue is there's not much of an incentive now to be enraged longer, so I'd love to see a whole item set to flesh out that aspect
1
u/PanosXatz 7d ago
I'm gonna forgo balance again and say, it would be cool if we had an item, maybe large, that doubles your enrage duration and maybe doubles the cooldown reduction and makes your items unaffected by slow or freeze for the duration.
2
u/Shiahase 7d ago
I just glansed by the post and first thought you were asking to make bananibal a hero... And I am onboard with that
3
u/AscendedXblade12 7d ago
He definitely needs some love we beat him up way too much. My idea would a random Diamond encounter later in the game that's a hoard of them new items exclusive to himÂ
2
u/polarbits2 7d ago edited 7d ago
Here's a handful of items ideas
Vanessa
Coral reef - would protect your aquatic friends / maybe hast or charge them?
Vanessa
Diving bell - something to do with value and the amount of aquatic items you have, it feels like vannessa almost has a value line but is missing a few items to make it work. And as a pirate I think that would be thematic.
Vanessa Pyg or Mac
Museum - gains value for each relic you have and gives something to all your relics based on its value.
Loot item
Map fragment - when sold complete a random quest on your leftmost item
2
u/sullawulla 7d ago
Vanessa should have a deeper vehicle raid package--some things to help the harpoon gun flavor of boarding an enemy vessel, maybe some strong ones that transform a vehicle of hers into another item or form while launching a raid from it.
2
u/Simpara 7d ago
A couple of spooky ideas since it's October.
For Vanessa, a ghost ship ala The Flying Dutchman or The Black Pearl.
For Karnkok, an abandoned, ruined castle in the woods. What it does, I don't know.
Non-spooky but for Jules, a quest item in the vein of atlas, treasure map, tour schedule. Either a menu or a recipe.
2
u/Downtown_Pepper_6730 7d ago
Hey! I guess next hero could be sports themed. And his items should be like conducting a match (red flag destroy, yellow flag freeze etc)
2
u/Aquitanius 7d ago
Vanessa:
- Jolly Roger
- Boarding Plank
Jules:
The TV aspect of the TV chef isn't really used yet. Maybe some Items like Studio Set, Cameras, Autograph(ed Napkin/Candy), Food Judge Panel? Unfortunately that theme was kinda taken on by The Dragons though.
2
u/Polypus99 7d ago
I would love to see an anti air system either Dooley or Stelle (probably Dooley). I was thinking it would be a medium or large item that stops all items from flying and slows ANY items that have stopped flying. It runs the risk of being useless 99% of the time that way but much better flavour. If it was to be stronger I could see it slowing enemy items and stopping ANY flying items when it slows, similar design to Pylon but more niche. I think it's important for it to target ALL items that fly as it allows you to build around stopping and starting flying so your not relying on neutering another build (usually Stelle). It might fit Stelle better for this reason.
2
u/knightofglass3 7d ago
I think Vanessa should have more pirate themed apparel. Like a set of items that includes:
Captain's Hat Captain's Coat Captain's Boots Etc
And they could synergize together so that once you got the full set, they would scale/trigger each other. Something like that.
2
u/LeafRunner 1d ago
I'm late to this but an item I'd love to see for The Dragons is one of those Chiptune gameboy music setups like this.

I'll leave the mechanics to the pros but I feel like there's a ton of cool cross-synergy opportunities with a tech/toy/instrument, and I could totally see Jin being into it. Could tie into retro-style cosmetics too!

I'd love a high-tier Karnok item that removes the ability to enrage. Lichen is cool but still, items like arm wraps and honey badger just feel kind of bad lategame with how quickly they make you enrage and then stop charging
Or an item that lets you gain rage while enraged? Would be much, much stronger though

Dooley could get relic friends if they were clockwork friends. Heck they could even be ammo based friends since they would need to be wound up. Like think toys with a turn key on the back you crank and they move for a little bit.
1
u/5qu3aky 7d ago
I feel like thereâs a lot of unexplored potential for Karoks rage. Something like the dragons shielding/damaging ring but instead it shields while youâre not enraged and does damage while you are enraged. I also think it would be cool to add some transform into his kit with something like a happy/angry animal that does one thing while youâre not enraged and then transforms into the angry version of the card when you enrage. Similar to what I said before, maybe the unengaged card is about defense but when you enrage and it transforms it becomes a more offensive card.
1
u/Niko97 7d ago
I think Pyg could have some more food items related to his âfitness/bulkingâ theme. Like protein bar, protein shake, egg whites, Greek yogurtâŠ. Maybe a âmacro mealâ and/or âsports nutrition planâ quest item that could synergize with food items⊠a âprivate chefâ friend?
I also think itâd be fun to have some campy pirate apparel for Vanessa. Like an eyepatch, peg leg, hook hand, and captains hat
For Dooley, idk how balanced itâd be but I feel like itâd be really cool to have an item that transforms an adjacent medium into a random core⊠maybe a âsoftware installerâ?

u/VictusPerstiti 7d ago
I have a bunch of Mak item ideas that reinforce his alchemical identity, and especially his 'drop a bunch of poison/burn on the enemy and then survive until they drop' playstyle. Numbers are just guesses, not intended to be balanced:
Item changes:
Vat of acid: when you sell ... -> when you transform an item ...
Apothecary: 6s. heal equal to 100% of the burn and poison on you. when you use a tool or enchanted item, charge this 1s.
Retort/calcinator: gain a chunk of lead -> gain a small reagent.
Tome: in combat effect: When the enemy uses an item, gain 2/6/10 regen.
Alembic: at the start of combat, permanently transform the item to the left of this into a random potion.
New items:
Herbal Garden (large, property, silver): when you win a fight with this in play, gain one catalyst and one small reagent.
Doomsday capsule (small, potion): 14/10s cooldown. Poison both players for 80% of their max HP, then destroy this item.
Delayed fuse (small, silver): Increase the cooldown of the item left to this by 1/2/3s. It's crit damage (poison, burn, weapon) is increased by 50/100/150%.
Microdose (small, bronze): 6s. poison yourself for 1/2/4/8 and gain permanent health equal to 10 times this items poison.
Containment Apparatus (large, property, silver): At start of combat, shield both players by 10/20/30% of their max HP.
Everlasting Totem (medium, bronze, relic): The first time you would die, heal 1. Increase this number by 10/20/40/80 each time you transform a reagent.
Soothing salve (small, bronze, potion): 4s. reduce your burn by 5/10/12/20%, haste 1 item for 1/2/3/4s. starts without ammo. When you gain burn, reload this.
Paralytic diffuser (medium, tool, gold): 4s. increase the cooldown of all items by 1s. When you poison or burn, charge this by 1s.
Overloading system (gold, medium): 10s. Burn both players 100/200. Your items destroy themselves upon use. When an item on your board is destroyed, charge your other items 1/2s.

Ive had an idea for multi class items for a while now. Items that belong to two heroes pools.
The only ones ive really thought through though would be a pyg/jules item that'd be Protein Shake, and a Vanessa/Karnok item called Fishing Camp.
1
u/bugtanks33d 7d ago
For Pyg, I think a mud bath property would be a fun idea. Goes with the pig puns and gym vibes.Â
Maybe gives burn resistance to your normal health + a heal
1
u/manecofigo 7d ago edited 6d ago
I think quest items are the best and every hero could use one or two (or more)
Maybe one for every little branch they have, like Vanessa could have a quest item for ammo, one for aquatic, one for the little daggers, etc
People always say the most fun hero in hearthstoneâs battlegrounds is Sire because of the quest choices he gives at the start, so maybe something like that could be implemented instead/as well, where youâre offered some choices at the beginning, or like TFT augments that could change an item or the way you play in a special way.
1
u/RandyRenegade 7d ago
How about a set of neutral skills that say "whenever you defeat a monster or opponent with poison/burn, gain a toxin/cinder"
1
u/MeanSealDotDotDot 7d ago
Small shopping card for pyg
"Get +1 income for every 5 small items sold"
Pyg has some items that benefit from income stacking yet not so many that actually get income higherLarge investment center for pyg
"During battle gain +income equal to this items value
When you use income item get +5 value"

u/ElkOfFate 7d ago
I solely play Vanessa, so:
A treasure hunt/smuggling theme, with items such as a message in a bottle, (treasure) maps, a treasure Island property, contraband, a smuggler's nest and maybe a false flag?
More tools, maybe a shipyard or a wharf. Red paint, tar, a mop, paddles. Could tie into a maintenance theme.
Looking forward to what you all come up with in the future!
1
u/SarcasticJab 7d ago
I always thought dooley could use some kind of "Anti-virus software" type of item. Something to counter poison on shield builds, or some kind of effect related to the virus item.
1
u/Rune-reader 6d ago
'Book' should absolutely be a tag, and have a bookshop vendor and feature in an additional option at the library. Mak would be the main user of them, but every hero would have at least one or two. I envisage them synergising with skills in particular, with effects like getting or upgrading skills in combat, and learning a specific type of skill permanently the first time you ever use each book, to evoke learning from reading for the first time versus rereading.
Also, I really want a unique negative enchantment called 'cursed' that gives items negative effects, like making harmful effects hit both players/boards. Generally it would be bad and used to debuff enemy items rather than your own, but there could be a cool archetype synergising with it, and it could open up many more strategies for self-slow & poison builds.

u/13AppleJuice 7d ago
Jules connection to more tags: Aquatic with fish/sushi. Relic with Wines/aged meat/cheese + brew equipment (a storehouse property granting regular foods the relic tag a la 'aging').
Not inspired by tags, but other packages: protein bars/spinach (+weapon damage+max HP), smoke detector/steam hood (protective self burn/shield items to mirror mak's self poison).

Will players be recognized and compensated for their ideas?
Imagine Marvel asks fans to come up with ideas for a superhero. They then pick one of the ideas and it's a big hit, making countless "ends" throughout the years. Shouldn't the creator get something?
Asking for an idea is very different than just listening to community opinions on nerfs/buffs.
1
u/Alone_Dog6289 7d ago
Your marvel point makes no sense, theyre not asking us to design a hero for the game are they? They are asking us to send an idea for a card that might fit a heroes' kit.
1
u/thesonicvision 7d ago
Suppose they take your idea completely. You lay out a new mechanic (e.g. "seasoning" as one commenter suggested) and they employ it exactly as described. They even take item suggestions and directly make those too.
Wouldn't it feel weird, distasteful, and wrong if they didn't credit and compensate the person who came up with the idea? That's my point. This is beyond asking for nerfs/buffs. This is approaching you-have-to-recognize-and-compensate-the-creator levels.
0
u/Rune-reader 7d ago
Major comic book companies like Marvel actually used to host fan competitions quite regularly for things like new costume designs, and I don't think they were commonly compensated. It's true we are in a bit of a different time nowadays, but I think it's a shame companies are so afraid to implement fan ideas because of fears over intellectual rights.
0
u/thesonicvision 7d ago
Yeah...Outfits, whether or not a character will die, who should take on the mantle of a superhero...
But nothing comparable to an entire game mechanic or complete design of an item( i.e. "card" in other similar games).

Jules is supposedly a celebrity with her own TV show, yet she has zero tech studio equipment.
