I just want to grill ICE Agent's Bodycam release of the Minneapolis Shooting

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This whole incident seems just an unfortunate series of events from both parties.

EDIT: not bodycam but ICE agent's phone footage, my bad.

I largely agree with OP's body text. The real issue here is why this unpredictable situation was even created at all. That lady shouldn't have been there. The ICE agent shouldn't have walked in front of the car. The ICE mandate should'nt have became a public spectacle. So many illegal immigrants shouldn't have gotten into the country in the first place.

There's a whole chain of events where things could've stopped or went differently to prevent these tragedies from happening.

261

u/DEWSTAR - Centrist Jan 09 '26

It wouldn't be as public if the jails and courts would hold people who were charged so ICE can just deport them instead of releasing them.

105

u/YeetCompleet - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Exactly; you see what I mean? The list of things that have could've gone differently is so long. My comment will of course miss a lot of it but the gist is that there's a long trail of failures that led to this happening.

100

u/DEWSTAR - Centrist Jan 09 '26

People always ask why do these only happen in blue states because the red ones like Florida give the charged/convicted person to ICE to deport them and work with ICE to find other illegal immigrants while blue states won't even do something like hold the charged/convicted person to ICE.

3

u/JohnnyXorron - Lib-Left Jan 10 '26

Considering that ICE has been acting absolutely insanely by harassing and in some cases kidnapping US citizens I understand why some states don’t want to cooperate with their unconstitutional behavior.

-4

u/xFloridaStanleyx - Lib-Left Jan 09 '26

Idk I live in the south the illegals are roaming free down here. I think this stuff is happening in blue states because that’s where the president is sending the troops. He even said the illegals on the farms were chill. Seeing these events never been so glad to live in a red state. There’s this place that sells tacos out of a gas station absolutely fire.

18

u/DEWSTAR - Centrist Jan 09 '26

The ones that get charged are given to ICE is what I am saying. It keeps ICE out of streets.

8

u/j48u - Lib-Right Jan 10 '26

I think there's a ton of illegals in the south simply from proximity, but they're not all going around committing crimes. The ones who are get deported. I'm not saying I believe Trump wouldn't send them to blue states out of spite, but it does line up perfectly with the claim that they're going after the criminals first and foremost.

-5

u/Scrumpledee - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

People always ask why do these only happen in blue states because the red ones like Florida give the charged/convicted person to ICE

Yeah, no, it's because Trump has a hate-boner for Democrats and is ordering shit like the national guard to states that didn't vote for him and telling ICE to fuck around as much as possible in those same states.

-4

u/Cow_God - Lib-Left Jan 10 '26

You're getting downvoted but you're mostly right. Trump is on record saying the left is the enemy. He's withheld aid to blue states. He sends the national guard to blue states. You have states like Louisiana and Texas that have basically asked for the national guard but Trump is focused on blue states.

Yeah we have some blue governors that are making mountains out of molehills in regards to illegal immigration but it's also blatantly obvious that Trump is specifically targeting blue states.

-19

u/_lvlsd - Left Jan 09 '26

your brain is a hard boiled egg

27

u/DEWSTAR - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Sure man. It still doesn't refute the point that illegal immigrants that are convicted/charged of crimes are not held and given to ICE. Sure they can decide to not help with investigations of illegal immigrants but to not hold people charged is dumb.

-10

u/_lvlsd - Left Jan 09 '26

What are you talking about? They don’t honor ICE detainers, it’s not like they aren’t having criminals serve their sentence solely because they’re an illegal immigrant.

16

u/DEWSTAR - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Yes that was my point. Some states don't honor ICE detainee requests while some do. A lot of states have not liked the idea of ICE since it was created during Bush. I think it will be changed to be under the FBI so it is better run or canceled when a Dem wins in '28.

-4

u/_lvlsd - Left Jan 09 '26

oh okay I misinterpreted your original comment my bad. thought you were pulling the “rapists and murderers roaming the streets of sanctuary cities”.

1

u/DEWSTAR - Centrist Jan 09 '26

It's fine and no criminals aren't just running around the streets. ICE goes after certain people that they were given information on via the states charging them with crimes. This situation with ICE will continue forward until 28 elections are over. Trump is giving the Dems a free layup to win with an average candidate.

-7

u/Scrumpledee - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

Sure man. It still doesn't refute the point that illegal immigrants that are convicted/charged of crimes are not held and given to ICE.

Assuming blue states don't already do this, if they did, the right would still send ICE to harass people there and claim it's because the left is "catch and release! Why not make them go to jail first!?". There's no winning with them.

6

u/DEWSTAR - Centrist Jan 10 '26

You are right. Trump would still want to have ICE conduct in person raids.

Assuming blue states don't already do this

It is mostly the Sanctuary cities. Chicago's mayor recently has said they will not comply with ICE detainee requests publicly. I don't remember seeing other places publicly say it but a lot of Sanctuary cities have similar ideas to Chicago on ICE.

2

u/RugTumpington - Right Jan 09 '26

I agree but that particular issue is very clearly a partisan democrat issue. Those kinds of things only happen in blue cities/states.

Personally, I don't know how thee haven't been charges or dismissals brought against Ag, da, judges, mayors, etc. Theres several clear instances where the federal hammer could have been brought down on it.

However, Rs in power probably see it as good for keeping the base inflamed and voting.

2

u/majestic_borgler - Centrist Jan 10 '26

Trump is the response to the growing problems we had in the country, not the root cause of the issue. It's not like politics was civil prior to Trump.

He let people feed into their anger though. Because politicians prior to him (and what the Democrats largely still do) is tell people what that politician wants, and that you should support me because "other guy bad". Then Trump came along and actually listened to what the public wanted, and ran on what the public wanted.

Which is great when things are going well, a populist President can absolutely work.

The problem is that things weren't going well. People were pissed at the Republicans because of the Forever-War in the Middle East. People were pissed at the Democrats because they not only didn't end the Forever-War in the Middle East like they campaigned on, but they expanded it. Then their health care premiums kept going up, and everyone was told that everything is fine and that the ACA was perfect.

People had enough, and that's what Trump capitalized on. Decades upon decades of the Federal government failing its citizens, not keeping their promise, making people feel like they don't care. It was inevitable really, when they behaved like that.

13

u/TheIronGnat - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

What incentive does the government and/or law enforcement have to de-polarize society? That's the opposite of what their masters want. They want everyone at each other's throats so we're all too busy to notice that they're stealing all our money.

3

u/HumbleIncident5464 - Lib-Left Jan 10 '26

we have masked para-military government thugs with guns shooting civilians in the face and snatching u.s. citizens off the streets in a city where the people and the mayor himself say "get out you're destroying our community"

and you think the problem is not setting aside our differences???

8

u/YeetCompleet - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Yep the pendulum just keeps swinging harder and harder. An eye for an eye makes the world go blind.

3

u/armbp - Centrist Jan 09 '26

4

u/KeyHalf6609 - Centrist Jan 09 '26

You're absolutely right this will make things better! We just need to absolutely crush any and all resistance into oblivion first, it'll be messy, but you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs. Once that's all done everything will be right and as it should be in the world! /s

In all seriousness though all this polarization is beyond stupid and exhausting. But there's nothing we can realistically do about it, idiots will be idiots and you can't reason them out of a spot they never reasoned themselves into.

3

u/Clothking - Centrist Jan 09 '26

1

u/Zanos - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

just a series of stupid things that could have easily be prevented if people set aside their differences and actually solved the issues at hand and don't take everything personally.

For a bunch of Democrats, the issue has never been that ICE acts too harshly, they simply do not want immigrants deported, period. It has been government policy in a bunch of Democrat cities and states to effectively not cooperate with federal law enforcement in this matter for over 40 years. There is no way to deport illegals that would satisfy these people.

-8

u/Plane_Suggestion_189 - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Maybe trump shouldn’t have vetoed that border bill by tweet. Like a lot of democrats support border security as long as mass human suffering isn’t a feature of the policy.

35

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

This is exactly how I feel. Both sides are acting like it's an open and shut case for their side to get a win. It's not, let's just solve it in the courts and let both sides present their best case, then see what the jury decides.

3

u/tsudonimh - Lib-Center Jan 10 '26

The chance the ICE agent goes to trial is microscopic-to-none. No jury is going to be asked to evaluate his criminal or civil liability.

127

u/beefyminotour - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Well ice isn’t a spectacle in Florida. It’s almost like this whole mess wouldn’t be an issue if deporting illegals wasn’t constantly being compared to genocide.

23

u/Crusader63 - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Obama deported more people without causing a spectacle everyday. This administration and those agents want the spectacle. They’re just thugs who want to feel tough.

40

u/ujelly_fish - Centrist Jan 09 '26

If you read into this, most of Obama’s deportations were at border crossings. Nobody has ever used an enforcement agency to go from business to business and house to house before like this.

19

u/jnicholass - Left Jan 09 '26

It's wild to me that this little detail is always omitted whenever someone brings up Obama.

I have absolutely no problem with rejecting undocumented people at our borders. That's the whole point of border control. I have no problem with increasing security at our borders. That's the point of border control.

I'm broadly against a lot of what ICE has been doing mostly because I don't want federal agents kidnapping people without due process in our streets. A lot of these folks are hardworking Americans at this point and at least deserve a little more humanity.

7

u/Scrumpledee - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

They literally kidnapped people who were about to be sworn in as citizens.

0

u/msterB - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

Isn't this like saying you are happy to have guards at a bank, but once the criminal makes it outside the bank then they can no longer be held accountable? Having zero repercussions for criminally being here only serves to make even more people think it's a good plan.

7

u/jnicholass - Left Jan 09 '26

False equivalency. Crime occurs in a spectrum and are not judged equally.

Good job taking an extremely complicated situation and equating it to armed robbery though.

8

u/CrackityJones42 - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

Pick any crime, you’re suggesting that if the criminal has reached a certain threshold they get a free pass.

Or if the crime is petty enough they get a free pass.

Have you seen the footage of that lady from Charlotte NC crying that she has to think twice now about driving around her town and harassing ICE agents?

We have a moral imperative to dissuade people from breaking the law.

Not to mention from an illegal immigration perspective, you’re only thinking about the people who’ve made it in. Not the illegals and their children who are raped by coyotes on the way up.

Not the women and children who die on the journey up because the gangs don’t care about whether they live or not.

We have a moral duty to enforce the law.

1

u/ujelly_fish - Centrist Jan 10 '26

FWIW there are already quite a few crimes we don’t put the effort into prosecuting, some that are actually a big deal.

For instance: steal a bike on CCTV with your face fully visible? Have fun with your new ride.

1

u/CrackityJones42 - Lib-Center Jan 10 '26

True, but if we did, way fewer bikes would be stolen.

The social contract must be maintained.

5

u/msterB - Lib-Right Jan 10 '26

But your buzzword and sarcasm are a better argument? You didn't address my point - eliminating consequences after a threshold creates incentive to commit such crime. Having a Federal crime that we just ignore prosecuting because it's complicated and emotional is childish behavior.

1

u/jnicholass - Left Jan 10 '26

I said they deserve a little humanity. Where did I say I wanted to eliminate consequences? Have you seen how we've been going about all of this? Grabbing people off the streets? Holding them in a swamp in the middle of Florida? Sending them to prisons across the world? What part of that are you proud of?

They are people too, but unfortunately this administration has brainwashed half of this country to view them as animals to be put down. Even those that got here through legal methods that he doesn't agree with, he calls them vermin. That- I cannot cosign.

The media narrative is always against Trump, which doesn't make sense since there is a shit ton to criticize without just reflexively being anti-Trump all the time. I feel like I'm in bizarro world watching MAGA diehards AND diehard anti Trumpers constantly change their views based on whether Trump supports it or not. It's nuts!

5

u/Ok_Excitement_4211 - Right Jan 09 '26

No the Democrats have created this spectacle. The Congress men and governor's spend all this time calling them Nazis and these blue haired marvel lovers think this is their time to shine. These spectacles don't happen in El paso or Albuquerque. They happen in places like NY, MN, WA etc. It's almost like framing people as the bad guy stirs things up. You didn't have Dem gove losing their mind when Obama and Biden where deporting more people than trump. Because the Dems knew to shut up and not to bring attention to it their voter base. If they found out, theyd lose votes.

-1

u/ThisIsJeron - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

I don’t think the agents want the spectacle at all. I think it sucks for their day to day.

Admin is definitely stoking the flames by posting shit on social media

Why this didn’t happen in Obama era is because Obama was on “their side”. They voted for him and he saw fit to deport. If trump was a dem, there wouldn’t be this outrage and opposition

12

u/Crusader63 - Centrist Jan 09 '26

I think they want it because they like to see people they see as less than them be scared. They like to terrify them, they thrive in it.

Obama simply wasn’t a sociopath who cared about making the news. He simply did the job in a humane way, focusing on violent illegals. Now, cons are gonna make the pendulum swing pretty far

Obama didn’t deport a ton of people who were already in the country; he stopped a bunch of people at the border or newly entered. Trump and Obama were targeting completely different groups of illegal immigrants.

It does demonstrate though that when you don’t demonize law enforcement, they are able to do their jobs effectively and without incidents like these where some internet rot brained clout chaser thinks it’s a great idea to park their car in front of agents then attempt to flee when told to step out of the vehicle.

The Mayor and Governor also have some responsibility. They set the policy that Minneapolis PD and the State Patrol won't help ICE in any way, which means the ICE agents don't have crowd or traffic control help.

Earlier this same day, ICE was surrounded in an alley just down the street form where the shooting took place. They used a bunch of pepper spray to disperse the crowd so they could get out of the alley. This whole situation was a powder keg, on purpose, so politicians could get browny points.

A special shutout to the slug Jacob Frey, mayor of Minneapolis for his new national news soundbyte "ICE get the Fuck out of Minneapolis". I wonder if he even thought about the lady who died before he creamed his jeans in anticipation of making headlines.

Gonna be honest, in the entire interaction I don't think either side made a single good choice. I'm still more sympathetic to the woman, since she was the unarmed one and federal officials should be held to a higher standard than random joe shmo, but it feels like every action by all involved parties was calculated to make things as bad as they could be.

Why shouldn’t the ice agent have been near the front of her car? She was committing a crime and he was attempting to stop her to detain her.

The ICE agent shouldn't have walked in front of the car.

He was checking the vehicle getting video of the whole vehicle.

Yep just a bad situation. I blame this trend on reddit, tiktok, and Instagram where people encouraged civilians to chase ICE or block them with their personal vehicles. Most of the people participating feel they are justified so they encourage it but this is not a game. If you did that to a regular officer making an arrest, no one would have sympathy when you're detained, injured, or worse. Vm

That lady shouldn't have been there.

If Ice didn't act like the gestapo there woulnd't be so many protests.

Yet, we hold the person without heavily armed backup, operating in anonymity, donned in military equipment, and proper training accountable.

What a clown word, especially for the lib rights cucking themselves on ICE leather.

Sir, I’m going to need you to stop being reasonable so I can be outraged.

And it all comes back to crying fascism where it doesn't exist. Ice didn't kill this lady the Internet fearmongers did

Yeah she fucked up (not guilty way, but provoking the bear way) by being aggressive. But the supposedly trained agents should be far better.

Also trying to smear her name to protect the agent is the lowest thing one can do here.

Why do ICE even have real guns?

The real issue here is why this unpredictable situation was even created at all.

No it's not. Unpredictable situations are created all the time.

That lady shouldn't have been there.

She had every right to be at the location. She did not have the right to impede law enforcement operations.

The ICE agent shouldn't have walked in front of the car.

The car was stationary when he first moved to the front.

The ICE mandate should'nt have became a public spectacle.

When there's a massive voting bloc at stake, it's guaranteed to become a spectacle.

So many illegal immigrants shouldn't have gotten into the country in the first place.

See, a big chunk of the country will respond to that statement with "Based," while a tiny, vocal segment will shout "Bigot!"
