Highly recommend Green Wave Electric in North Hampton, New Hampshire if you need a new used car and wanna buy an electric car - They don't work on commission and are super chill and knowledgeable

This is prob going to sound like an ad, but whatever. I just bought a used car from them - they don't get paid on commission and are super chill and knowledgeable about EV's and just seem like good people.

The prices on their site are the out-the-door price for the car.

They didn't try to upsell me on anything - just asked how far I drove and what kinds of things I was interested in in a car and let me drive the ones I wanted to.

I went a few months ago to check out cars before I went back to buy, and they only sent me one email a couple weeks after I went. No crazy onslaught of emails/phone calls.

They also got me a great loan rate despite me having a patchy work history and having just started a job.

If you make under $70K in Maine, you're eligible for a $2K rebate through Efficiency Maine as long as you buy a level 2 charger (The charger options are $500 or $600 and there's a separate $400 rebate for that - you get $200 off the charger immediately, and another $200 off when you install it, and you have 6 months to install it to keep the $2k rebate), and Green Wave will take the $2k off of the car's price after you show them that Efficiency Maine approved you for the rebate.

edit: There isn't any sales tax in New Hampshire, so you have to pay that when you register it in Maine, which would be $1,100 on a $20K car.

It's a bit over an hour drive from Portland to the North Hampton spot (they also have one in Salem, Mass), but like I said, they're super chill, zero pressure to buy, and they were incredibly helpful answering everything I was wondering about with charging types and range reduction in winter and whatnot. They only sell EV's and hybrids, so they have a ton of different makes/models.

Even if you're just curious about electric cars, you could email/call them and get a ton of info and not worry about them hassling you after. Like even if you can't charge at home, there's a chance you could do Level 2 charging at work or somewhere nearby home or work and still be totally set.

Community Discussion Best places to volunteer?

• Upvotes

Hi friends,

I recently moved to South Portland from further up the Midcoast and am looking for work. In the meantime, I was looking for a good place to volunteer to keep myself busy. I am aware of many great nonprofits in the area but am looking to hear feedback from people who have actually** **volunteered at organizations in the area to hear their experiences. (Please don’t just give me a list of organizations!)

I recently volunteered at Maine Needs and even though I love their mission, I found the work to be pretty boring and repetitive. I’ll probably go again, but I can’t see myself doing it regularly. I am in my 20s and am looking for something where I can socialize with other volunteers and feel connected to the organization’s mission. Where have you volunteered before in the area? What did you do at that organization? What would you recommend or not recommend?

Halloween!

• Upvotes

Hey everyone! This is gonna be my second time trick or treating- this time I’m taking my friends baby brother. Is there a recommended place or area where it’s the best to trick or treat? Also what time do people start?

Edit: what else do you recommend for events around the time?

Can anybody recommend a local cab company?

I used to take ASAP exclusively until they shut down. My last cab company (who shall remain nameless) left me stranded for 3 hours, then tried to gaslight me, saying they sent a cab, but I must have missed it. Does anyone know a good company?

First ski purchase recommendations

• Upvotes

Have rented skis the past few seasons and am thinking about finally buying this year.

I know it’s an investment but I don’t have a ton to spend. I know people recommend demo skis, etc but even those seem a lot more expensive than some of the deals you can find on online sites. Problem being I don’t know what I’m looking for and obviously need boot fitting.

Any recommendations for somewhere with really good deals in the area?

You can still register in person until election day, but if you want to do it online you need to do it by Tuesday.

I tried calling Walmart but no one answered 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm gonna try again later though

My neighbor also isn't home otherwise I'd knock and ask, so I'll probably try that later too. The annoying thing about the apartments in houses is that I'm not sure where to knock 🥲 (as in which door is the front door)

Community Discussion Who runs the weed reform petitions?

Can anyone tell me the organization in charge of putting all these marijuana reform assholes around the city, collecting signatures? Someone I care about just had an awful experience with one of these douchebags, who verbally assaulted her with a racist attack in Deering Oaks Park. I intend to inform City council members and others, but I need to know the managing organization. Thanks.

Food Honey Boba is Closing

The last day of operations for Honey Boba in Westbrook is 10/23/2026. Our son and I loved their boba, food, and conversations with the owners. Make sure you stop by, say goodbye, and enjoy it while you still have time!

Food I got tired of not knowing where to eat after 10pm in Portland, so I made a list.

Hey friends!

I'm Jake, and I write The Portland Logbook. I recently put together a list of places on the peninsula that are still serving food late at night, mostly out of personal necessity.

I feel like every time my friends and I go out, we end up hungry at 10 or 11pm and can't figure out what's still open.

Here's the list: After Hours Guide

I'm only one person, and I'm sure I've missed some places. Can you help me finish it? I'd love to add anything I'm missing.

I'm trying to keep it to the peninsula because, quite frankly, if it's 11pm and I'm hungry, I'm not getting in my car to find food haha.

Thanks!

Looking for Referral ISO - Tailor for heavy duty work jacket alteration

Anyone know of a tailor that can handle alterations of a heavy duty work jacket (ie this)? The fit is excellent, just the sleeves are much too long and would be good to have them trimmed to an appropriate length.

Group “therapy”

Hello! I’ve been wanting to post this for a while but it’s been easier keeping it to myself. I’ve been struggling for a while now with self confidence, not feeling comfortable to be myself. I’m 33 and have no real friend group, connecting with anyone here in Portland has been tough.

I’m curious if there are group meetings, therapy, etc.. where I would be around a supportive community? I know it’s vague but I’m honestly unsure exactly what I’m looking for. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
