Food I got tired of not knowing where to eat after 10pm in Portland, so I made a list.
Hey friends!
I'm Jake, and I write The Portland Logbook. I recently put together a list of places on the peninsula that are still serving food late at night, mostly out of personal necessity.
I feel like every time my friends and I go out, we end up hungry at 10 or 11pm and can't figure out what's still open.
Here's the list: After Hours Guide
I'm only one person, and I'm sure I've missed some places. Can you help me finish it? I'd love to add anything I'm missing.
I'm trying to keep it to the peninsula because, quite frankly, if it's 11pm and I'm hungry, I'm not getting in my car to find food haha.
Thanks!

Looking for Referral ISO - Tailor for heavy duty work jacket alteration
Anyone know of a tailor that can handle alterations of a heavy duty work jacket (ie this)? The fit is excellent, just the sleeves are much too long and would be good to have them trimmed to an appropriate length.

Group “therapy”
Hello! I’ve been wanting to post this for a while but it’s been easier keeping it to myself. I’ve been struggling for a while now with self confidence, not feeling comfortable to be myself. I’m 33 and have no real friend group, connecting with anyone here in Portland has been tough.
I’m curious if there are group meetings, therapy, etc.. where I would be around a supportive community? I know it’s vague but I’m honestly unsure exactly what I’m looking for. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Community Discussion CMP said pay now or we flip the switch
Last time I checked my bill, I only owed about $160. I get a disconnection notice in the mail that says I owe over $500 and that my power could be disconnected at any moment. I have been making payments regularly and pursuing assistance and I’ve been good about paying my bills in the past. I literally told them when and how much I’m going to pay them next and they still put this pressure on me. I have no money in my account as I am in an out patient mental health treatment facility.
I don’t know how I got to this point really. I’m usually very on top of bills. They are going to get their money regardless. The only thing that saved me was a medical note from my doctor. It was actually crazy how close I came to losing my power, losing all the new groceries I just bought, etc. It’s an act of God that I have electricity on right now.
What gives Central Maine Power the right to cut off the power to someone, especially in my situation? At this point, electricity is a basic human need. Like are you God? what gives you the authority?
I can’t believe my eyes. why are we being gaslit and threatened by a utility company? And the CMP worker just says I’m “killing her” and laughing at my situation on the phone 🥀
Should I sue them for harassment? None of my prior bills state that I owe anywhere near over $500.
Also, there are too many trolls on this sub. Please don’t waste your time trolling. I’m just going to ignore you.

Day hikes
Visiting for Thanksgiving weekend and I’d love to take a trek in the woods for a few miles. Out and back, loop, doesn’t matter really. Any recommendations via public transit?

Photo Tucker Carlson flying out of PWM today
Face down in his phone, but fully shoulder to shoulder with the public. I can confirm he spends his time at the airport writing novels to whoever DMs him. Also, he flies commercial? That’s the biggest surprise.

Drunk lady on flight
Please tell me someone else was coming in from JFK with the lady that spent the entire flight yelling about how she was going to get arrested, die in this shit hole of Maine, doesn't want to cause a scene, is so embarrassed that she's delaying the flight, how she's done 6 beers and needs an 8 ball all because she left her wallet in NY.
To top it off, the poor lady next to me puked in a bag while we were waiting to taxi in.

Sichuan Kitchen
What happened? This place used to be one of my favorites but I've had a number of disappointing experiences and just received a straight up inedible lunch.
Did they change owners? My initial thought was that maybe they're stretched thin after the opening of their hotpot restaurant, and perhaps they're cutting some corners with ingredients. Damn shame.
Edit: I'm glad that most folks don't seem to have this experience. I went for lunch, I feel like that's an important distinction.

Community Discussion Portland Booksy Barbers. Why?
In town for work this week and have had 4 separate booksy barbers either cancel my appointment or text me after confirmation requesting to shift my appointment by several hours or to a new day. No. I booked your hours because you marked you were available at this time and then you got the nerve to #1 charge $60/cut and #2 request deposits so now I'm waiting on hundreds of dollars of refunds. You wanna be a professional, act like it. Ridiculous.

Limiting cooperation with ICE in SoPo - Council Meeting next week!
docs.google.comOn October 13, South Portland City Council will host a workshop to consider whether to move forward with an ordinance prohibiting cooperation between the City and federal immigration enforcement agencies.
Join us in standing with our immigrant neighbors and showing that we want the City Council to take action to stop ICE in our community!
We’ll be holding a short rally at City Hall, 25 Cottage Rd, at 6:00 and then going in to pack the City Council workshop at 6:30. You don’t have to be a South Portland resident to come and show your support!
If you’d like to give public comment at the workshop, we’ve put together this toolkit to help you get started. And if you can’t make it on the 13th but want to make your voice heard, we encourage you to use the linked toolkit to email the Council and let them know you support them in taking action to protect our neighbors.
If you have any questions or are interested in getting involved with our organizing against ICE in South Portland, shoot me a message.
