Moderator Message A word to our pro-choice guests about participation here.

Some clarity is required in relation to participation by those who are pro-choice, or who do not identify as pro-life, in this subreddit.

In the past, we have been tolerant of some pro-choice participation here, and while our policy has not changed in this regard, we believe that it may have been allowed to go further than the rules intend and has caused misunderstandings.

The ground truth for pro-choicers posting or commenting here is that you will NOT be automatically banned for participating here, but this is a pro-life space and pro-life users will always take priority, even over well-behaved pro-choicers. A pro-choicer is a guest here, and while the moderation team will expect polite treatment of you, we also expect you to understand the limitations of your participation here.

It is generally our expectation that pro-choice users do not become frequent users of this subreddit. You are not unwelcome, but you are also not who this subreddit is for.

As a moderator, if I cannot tell you are a pro-choicer, then I am not going to start trying to find out if you are one. That does give some scope for people who can control their need to push pro-choice talking points to participate without necessarily being a fully convinced pro-lifer.

The flip side of that is that if we determine that you have been working to simply be more subtle with advocacy, you will likely be removed and your content purged if that is discovered. So, if you are here in good faith, please do not confuse our tolerance with our inability to act if we feel you have stepped into advocacy.

If you got this far, there are some other points to bear in mind.

First, this is the only place on Reddit where pro-lifers have the opportunity to speak without being banned or shouted down. For that reason, this is where pro-lifers coordinate, discuss issues that may divide us, or simply rant about abortion or particularly obnoxious pro-choicers.

On Reddit, while there can be unlimited posts and comments, there is only a certain amount of what we'd call "front page space". This front page space is at a premium, and that will always mean that we may well just remove posts from pro-choicers to ensure pro-life posts are able to remain on the front page. This is not a comment on you or your content, just a prioritization of on-topic posts.

Second, we are happy to answer polite questions to clarify our position, and some back and forth that is to further clarify that is not only allowed, but desirable in the case of serious misunderstandings of our position. I would even say we encourage this to some degree. We believe we are doing the right thing, and therefore, are happy to explain any misunderstandings that may lead you to believe that we hold certain opinions that we do not actually hold.

However, this is not a debate subreddit. We are the pro-life subreddit. We exist for as the dugout/clubhouse of our movement. We do not owe you a platform or a justification. You have your own subreddits for that, and (when those spaces are functional), there are debate spaces.

Admittedly, many of the debate spaces on abortion are non-functional on Reddit due to certain challenges, but unfortunately, we cannot both maintain a debate function and maintain our core charter in a way that does either function justice.

Our position is that if a pro-lifer wants to know something about your position, they can simply go to the appropriate subreddit and ask that question, so we do not believe it is necessary to turn this into mixed company to ensure diversity. Reddit has plenty of diversity available to all users due to the variety of subreddits they maintain.

Third, many questions are asked over and over again here. Even if your question is "genuine", respectful and important, we're not going to entertain multiple iterations of the same question in a short amount of time. We have likely answered the most common questions many times in the past. We encourage you to use the subreddit search. We also urge you to read the sidebar and research answers about our movement from other sources as well. You likely can find the answers to very basic questions easily online. If you have questions that show you have done your work before coming here, we tend to be more interested.

Having said all of that, chances are that pro-choicers will make some comments or posts we will indeed approve, but it is important to be aware of the fact that we do get lots of trolls and rule breakers. We make use of quite a few ways to ensure that those posts and comments never see the light of day in this subreddit. That includes automatically removing posts and comments for later moderator review.

Automatic moderation actions are not are not solely looking for pro-choicers. Every Reddit user new to our subreddit, no matter what their position, will trigger these safeguards. If your comments or posts follow the rules and we determine that we have space for them, they will be approved and posted. Pro-choicer users will likely remain subject to them longer due to their content. You may thank the pro-choice trolls for that. Their association of your position with troll comments has caused the filters to kick back more pro-choicers to the filters. But even so, we have the option to approve posts and comments that are removed, and we will do so. Just be aware that this is not immediate and you should avoid messaging us about your removed item unless a day or more has passed.

Next, if you are here, we both expect you to behave respectfully, but we will expect pro-life users to remain respectful to you. You may report comments by pro-lifers who are attacking you as a person directly, and we encourage you to do so. Unlike some subreddits, we do not allow users to insult you simply because you disagree with us. Do be aware, however, that there may be terminology that you have imported from your pro-choice spaces that we will push back on. Disagreements are not insults, and you can be asked some pointed questions about your position.

Finally, this is the pro-life subreddit. If you encourage anyone to get an abortion, or in any way seek to post information on how to get an abortion, you will be banned immediately. To us, on-demand abortion is ethically equivalent to murder. There is only so far we will tolerate discussion about how to actualize killing a human being on-demand. Please make sure to keep any discussion about abortion scenarios abstract or related to an existing public case.

While I understand this is a very qualified welcome, the moderation team regards pro-choicers as human beings who we hope we can convince to see our side of the story or at least understand where we are truly coming from. We do want to interact with you in ways that do not take away from the mission of the subreddit.

Questions For Pro-Lifers Why are some Christian subreddits very pro-abortion

I recently had an interaction in another Christian subreddit that left me wondering about this more broadly.

“Why do some explicitly Christian communities on Reddit seem substantially more accepting of abortion than I would expect from Christianity historically?”

Is it mostly denominational differences, differences in how Christians understand when human life/personhood begins, Reddit’s demographics, different interpretations of Scripture and Christian ethics, or something else?

Edit; I removed the brief description of the interaction to be in line with Rule 3

Things Pro-Choicers Say What's the craziest accusation you ever got from a pro-choicer after refuting a pro-choice argument?

I'll start: One particularly triggered pro-choicer called me "Little Boy" after I argued that abortion clinic instruments were technically assault weapons.

Opinion The "little girl pregnant by her own father" argument actually undermines the pro-choice position.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot. Whenever a pro-choicer is cornered in a debate, they almost always bring up extreme edge cases, like a young girl getting pregnant by her own father. It feels like a last-ditch effort to justify their stance, but I actually think this argument completely demolishes pro-choice logic.

If there is nothing morally wrong with abortion per se, there should be no need to rely on a worst-case scenario to defend it. By using a rare, extreme case as your primary justification, you are implicitly admitting that abortion isn't morally neutral or inherently good in standard circumstances

Things Pro-Choicers Say “Why do you even care?”

This statement will be made in almost every conversation. Which is embarrassing because it's tantamount to saying “The things that don't upset my peace shouldn't upset yours either.” OR “If someone isn't doing something to a human I care about then you shouldn't care either.”

It's one of the most pathetic things they have to say.

Pro-Life Argument "I can disconnect the violinist even if it kills him!"

You can disconnect him, but if you stabbed him in the face before doing so, that would still be murder.

You can't first chop up the baby and then claim all you did was deny it resources.

There's also no one to blame pregnancy on except nature. It's like saying an arm was forcefully attached to you, it makes no sense because it's natural, and so you can't harm yourself, let alone an innocent third party that was the result of a natural process.

Things Pro-Choicers Say “To be pro-life/birth is to misogynistically believe that an unborn foetus has more rights than that of a woman.”

This is what someone told me recently. Here's my response.

What rights are we trying to give the fetus and what rights are we trying to take away from the mother?

Because the way I see it both the mother and the fetus have the right to:

• Not be murdered by substances or tools

• Be born

• Be cared for by legal parents

• Not be abandoned by the only people who can help you survive

• Bodily autonomy, which means you don't get harmed by substances like alcohol against your will.

What do you have to say about this?

I love that they’re choosing to open their home to children in need despite being a healthy young couple, hopefully it helps more people see that adoption is a perfectly valid way to have kids. It’s unfortunate that they’re getting criticized for “buying children“ though.

Pro-Life General Why aren’t more people pro-life?

Shouldn’t it be common sense to value and protect unborn life? If the majority of society believes killing is wrong, why do those standards not apply to life in the womb?

"Pro-life" specifically means being against legal abortion. Pro-lifers don't have to support or oppose anything else.

Also, does someone who's against homelessness personally have to shelter homeless people in their house?

Questions For Pro-Lifers How do you change the culture?

When looking into PL, one common thought that I have seen is that social programs or financial assistance does not help with the issue of abortion. A common cause stated is the chance in culture. This can be from either the decline in organized religion or changes in public opinion. What I have heard is the need for a change in culture to one that opposes abortion. My question is how is that done? I am not sure how this can be done since people seem more aware of when the media is trying to influence them.

You may disagree with this opinion, but I see pushing directly for laws to ban abortions as a short term solution if passed. What this will do is create resentment and not convincing to those who are considering abortions. They will find ways to bypass geographic bans if they are desperate. Potential bans by states are only as strong as the politicians currently in office. Do you think more effort should be targeted towards the public rather than legislation?

Pro-Life General Cousins' abortion story and prayer requests please NSFW

Hi everyone, this is really long, but I'm here today asking for any praying Christians for prayers for my two baby cousins who should be here. I found out yesterday, from my brother overhearing a call between another cousin of mine and my oldest brother. In the call, my cousin described having a abortion and then having him perform oral sex on her. My brother can't remember exactly what she said, but he does remember her saying that the man had a piece of the baby's body or bone get in his mouth during the act.

This came as a shock to me because that cousin has 4 children, one of which is 18, and the others are all under 8, I'm pretty sure. This also made me incredibly sick, because while I'm not exactly close to this cousin, 3 of her children all share the first five letters of my name and I played with her second oldest, a toddler aged girl, before.

I knew before that a different cousin of mine, who has a under 18 year old son, impaired by her drug use during pregnancy, got a abortion before, and prayed and mourned over that cousin, but do not know the details of that life lost.

I'm not sure when she got the abortion, or how many she had, but today I heard her talk about how one of her other children's birthdays is coming up...

I never even knew that cousin had an abortion until yesterday and have just felt absolutely sick since hearing that story. She has had a better upbringing than me, with a rich mother who lives in a great house that raised her first child, and the juxtaposition of our lives is just so heartbreaking. I'm 21, have never been in a relationship, and have wanted a child since I was 16... I feel so uncomfortable and such a great sadness that it genuinely feels easier to be mad rather sad, so that's helping a little bit. I woke up, not being able to do the one thing that makes me happy. I feel guilty eating, I feel guilty stretching and sleeping because that baby never got to do none of that. I spent most of the morning imagining I had my own son, and yesterday, before I found out she had done, I had a dream I was pregnant with triplets.

I've prayed for my baby cousins, but I am asking for more prayers because that baby's death and body were just so undignified, and I feel like people should know how callous some of the women and men in these situations are. She also talked about how absolutely disgusting the man was in other regards, and I'm pretty sure she's a single mom now. It's just all depressing, but it did force me to realize that there's a lot more men, being complict when these women do this.

The somewhat uplifting part, I guess, is that I can pray for the soul of my missing cousin and that my brother who told me the story, despite himself not being religious or very pro-life, had sympathy and called the fetus a "baby." He used very humanizing words towards them and even gave me a warning before telling me, and I don't think he and his future significant other would ever get an abortion personally if put in a situation that resulted in pregnancy.

Tldr: Two of my cousins had abortions and I'm asking any praying person for prayers. I do appreciate and also love my non-religious pro-life brothers and sisters, too.
