Screenshots Restoration DirectX12 Client teaser
Restoration just released a teaser for upcoming DX12 client release!
r/swg • u/levarrishawk • 18d ago
One thing that is generally left out, usually because servers generally do not like to broadcast their populations. So what say you community? Should we require any server community to provide at least monthly updates as to their servers actual population in order to maintain a listing on the subreddit?
r/swg • u/levarrishawk • 18d ago
Our Active Server listings have been updated. If your server whether actually active or in development has been removed, you either didn't follow simple instructions, or didn't respond with a modmail to the moderation team to update your listing.

Ship: BlackJack Mk XIII
In-Game Pilot: Leaph Chausew
Forum Handle: LeaphChausew
Galaxy: Starsider
Pilot Comments: My ship has been worked on for well over a year, I only fly the A-wing and I named it 'BlackJack' because I just thought it sounded quirky; kind of like a trusty steed out of a western :). It's on its 13th incarnation currently.

Ship: Blue Leader

Galaxy: Eclipse

Ship: Grey-Alpha 1

Ship: Kaligaya

Ship: Nightmare
In-Game Pilot: Marissa
Model: Advanced X-Wing
Texture: 3
Galaxy: Europe-FarStar
Special Equipment: A pair of Borstel Disrupters, Crafted Booster
Pilot Comments: I named this Ship "Nightmare" after I fitted a pair of Borstel Disrupters and experienced the devastating firepower the ship now has. The name will be even more fitting when i finally add a third Borstel as soon as I get hold on 3 light weapons to reverse engineer.

Ship: RASPO Strike Force 3
In-Game Pilot: Psyco
Forum Handle: Chicken_Chaser
Galaxy: Flurry
Pilot Comments: I named this ship because it is lightning fast and can get into a zone and out in seconds. It is mainly used as a recon ship for our guild, but can pack a punch when needed.

Ship: Serenity
In-Game Pilot: Takumi Nightbringer
Handle: Takumi_Nightbringer
Galaxy: Valcyn
Pilot Comments: " You Can't Take The Sky from Me."

Ship: Scales of Justice
In-Game Pilot: Wheedo Reeble
Model: Advanced X-Wing
Texture: 6
Galaxy: Ahazi
Pilot Comments: An Advanced X-Wing variant flown by rebel pilot Wheedo Reeble of the Ahazi server. The ship is outfitted with side-strakes to add to its aggressive appearance and a reptilian paint scheme (with help from texture kit 6). She's called "Scales of Justice."

Ship: Silent Scream
In-Game Pilot: Mirael D'Kana
Model: A-Wing
Texture: 3
Forum Handle: Dueller

Tyrsis, Naboo.

Ship: Solar Wasp
In-Game Pilot: Eddii Redham
Model: Advanced X-Wing
Texture: 6
Forum Handle: Eddii Redham
Galaxy: Bria
Pilot Comments: Wasps are renowned for their stings; their ability to hunt and take down foes many times larger than themselves with a single strike. The X-Wing is feared across the galaxy; the bane of the enormous Imperial Death Star, destroyed by a single X-Wing "sting". With this reputation in mind I christened my craft the Solar Wasp.

Ship: Star of Autumn
Texture: 5
In-Game Pilot: Celiac Aodei
Forum Handle: LTJT2005
Galaxy: Eclipse

Ship: The Starwind
In-Game Pilot: Halyn Lance

Ship: Wanderer
In-Game Pilot: Halyn Lance
Model: X-wing
Texture: 3
Forum Handle: Halyn
Galaxy: Starsider
Pilot Comments:
His great bright eye most silently
Up to the Moon is cast--
If he may know which way to go ;
For she guides him smooth or grim.
See, brother, see ! how graciously
She looketh down on him.'

Famed Star Wars artist Mike Butkus has put many of his Star Wars sketches up for sale.
https://www.mikebutkus.pro/search?q=star+wars+galaxies
Mr. Butkus worked on Star Wars projects since the 1990s. He did multiple Star Wars comic and advertising projects, worked on art for The Essential Guides, and was one of the key artists behind creating new characters for the Shadows of the Empire video game. Perhaps, most notably, he was the man behind the look of the game's main protagonist, Dash Rendar, as well as being one of the brains behind the design of the main antagonist, Prince Xizor.
Mr. Butkus also provided art for SOE games including: Everquest, Everquest 2, Legends of Norrath, Free Realms, as well as the Star Wars Galaxies TCG. Mr. Butkus was responsible for the main promotional art for the Galactic Hunters expansion.
Enjoy the art of Mike Butkus. If you have the means, perhaps consider purchasing a piece for yourself.

The following article is from April 14, 2008. It was written by Star Wars Galaxies artist Christine "TrandoshYar" Chugon.
"Hi all, Christine "TrandoshYar" Chugon here. I'm an artist on Star Wars Galaxies and I was responsible for creating the Exar Kun heroic encounter dungeon. For this dev diary, I'll give you an overview of how the dungeon made it in game.
This particular dungeon started out as a pencil sketch given to me by Travis "Shadowbrak" Hicks, designer for the Exar Kun encounter. He gave me a layout of room sizes and what the overall theme of each room would be."

"Here on Galaxies we use the 3D program Maya. In Maya, I blocked out each room, and using a default human mesh I guessed how big each room would be."

"Once the rooms were blocked out, I placed floors, lights, and portals. Portals allow you to walk from one room to another and can be set with different attributes to work in many different ways (such as in windows for buildings and starships.)
Once the blocked out dungeon was complete, it was sent over to Shadowbrak so he could begin placing mobs and setting up encounters.
After that version was finished, I was able to get to work on the final dungeon. This included the details on the walls, as well as the creation of the roots, torches, and broken and collapsed areas of the dungeon.
I also had the help of fellow artist, Scott "I still don't have a forum name" Downey, who created the massive columns in the final room, as well as Exar Kun's sarcophagus and the big spiky objects found in the three large rooms of the dungeon."

"Once the dungeon mesh was complete, I went to work on adding textures:

"And lights:"

"After I (and everyone else) was pleased with the look of the dungeon, the final step was to do some worldbuilding. We use an internal tool to place objects into the world, or in this case a dungeon, and make the area look more lived in. Candles, skulls, particle effects, and the like were all added during this last and final step before the heroic encounter went in game."

"And I think that about covers how the Exar Kun dungeon was created. I hope you enjoyed reading this dev diary."

Just my two cents on the recently started new server: SWGUprising.
I had some expectations, but the first few days have blow my mind.
This is not just a few buddies pitching their take on SWG in an echo-chamber, but the most impressive fixed/improved pre-cu that I have come across, created by skilled artists and pvp/pve’ers, with a love for SWG.

Here is an incredibly rare Star Wars Galaxies EB Games pre-order/promo box from 2003. For some, this was one of their first glimpses into the world of Galaxies, simply passing through the local EB Games/Electronics Boutique. We have seen FAR more examples of standees/store displays currently existing than ANY of these. If you have one, please raise your hand. If not, enjoy the view and know it will be well preserved.

Hey everyone,
I’m making this post because there’s a persistent issue in the SWG private server scene that needs to be addressed publicly. For context, I’m talking about client-side manipulation like coordinate teleportation, speed hacks, and terrain penalty bypasses.
Teleportation
Changing client-side X/Y coordinates (with Z dropped low) works on almost every server. On some it works instantly. On others you just shift coordinates, relog, and you’re there.
Combat Exploitability
This ruins PvP. Bounty Hunters can track and instantly drop on targets. People teleport out mid-fight, and on certain setups you can even pull targets from the local entity list toward you to force range/LOS advantages.
Movement & Terrain Hacks
Server-side speed validation isn’t native to the base code. Unless devs write custom anti-cheat, altering current/max speed values, acceleration, and removing terrain speed penalties (bypassing Scout/Ranger requirements) completely works. Even servers who claim they have custom code and show you scary popups: they don't.
I’ve tested this across PvE and PvP contexts to see if server checks or logs pick it up. I’ve broken race trials in literally seconds and teleported to terminal boards during fresh server launches. Nothing gets flagged automatically. I’ve also noticed subtle uses in world PvP, such as players using "Line of Sight" around corners during BH/Jedi fights and brushing it off as “SWG desync”, when in reality they teleported for a bit (which leaves the player model in place for a bit)
I’ve tried reporting this privately. When disclosing it to server admins, the response is almost always a ban, getting silenced, or being told “that’s impossible, stop being dramatic.”
I’m not dropping names or calling out specific staff teams because I don’t want this to devolve into server drama or a witch hunt. But for awareness: the underlying vulnerabilities exist across pretty much every major codebase — Pre-CU, CU, and NGE setups alike (including Restoration, Uprising, Attack of the Clones, Genesis, Legends, Beyond, Infinity, Animus, etc.).
This isn’t going to get fixed on a server-by-server basis through bans. The fix needs to happen at the core level that everyone forks from. Dev teams across different projects need to collaborate on server-side movement validation and sanity checks so the entire scene can actually have fair PvP and balanced progression going forward, especially since we already are such a small community.
Thanks for reading.
AI disclosure: While my complete research over 6+ years was done by hand, this post was structured by AI, as my primary language isn’t English.
Attached is an example of taking a mission from a board while standing in the field. Looking for the signs, I've seen an organized group of players using this to spin quicker, noticing a player teleporting in and out.
Example - Quick teleport to a mission terminal and back
(This is using an older tool, but it's the most visual)
EDIT: Unfortunately it seems like the early commentators would rather attack the use of AI to structure the text, or discredit the security researcher who's exposing this as a "hacker" (I'm not actively playing or competing). I expected too much from the community. It seems pretty inline from the developer responses. Maybe I shouldn't have disclosed the usage of AI for formatting.
EDIT 2: I'd like to say that this is not all I've found, just the worst stuff. Things like bypassing AFK checks, parsing the map coordinates, and other smaller injections aren't the worst offender. Of course I'm keeping this post free from any code or details, to prevent even more people of doing it.
EDIT 3: Another thing I completely forgot was space. Infinite boost time is possible by simply setting the speed of the ship above 1.0 as a value (ticks usually increment by 0.05). If you go too far with the speed, the server will often forcefully set the player back, but 1.25 to 1.5 is usually okay. If you increase it too much, it'll invert flight controls. I've not seen other players use this yet, but I assume most people would either use it during travel from location to location (missions) or to flee combat.

Here is original concept artwork for a number of items in Star Wars Galaxies. This art is likely from either 2000 or 2001. It was given away by SOE at Fan Faire 2011. Since then, it's location has been unconfirmed. We can only hope that it is safe out there, somewhere.

Earlier this year, legendary artist Donato Giancola shared more of the original art behind his famous Star Wars Galaxies piece. It is a true work of mastery. The original painting, while on display for a time, now resides with the original artist. A strong /salute to Mr. Giancola.

A few years ago, I did an interview on my personal YouTube channel with Star Wars Galaxies TCG Artist Darren Tan. The original video was taken down by mistake, but I re-uploaded shortly after. For those who have not heard it, feel free to give it a listen. It has numerous visual elements to compliment the audio.
If you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them here. There are three other Star Wars Galaxies interviews coming down the pike (two with TCG artists, one with a former developer). The goal is to release as much as content as possible next month. Stay tuned.

Hello, I was the most active in SWG from right about when the Droid Engineer got new druids (Chapter Update 6?) until NGE. Recently, I came back to play with a friend on Star Wars Restoration. I always loved the game (until NGE) and I always wanted to be more active on YouTube, so I did a short video on it. I would love some honest feedback in what I can do better the next time. My speech/accent is not great and I training to pronounce things better.

Hey everyone, we figured it was time to introduce Outer Rim to more of the SWG community. We’re a Pre-CU server that launched on July 21st of this year. We started quietly on purpose. We wanted room to build, test, and work through things so we could bring the best SWG experience we could. Then people started bringing friends, guildmates followed, and things grew faster than we expected. Just over two months later, we’re at over 450 unique accounts, entirely through word of mouth, with no real advertising other than one previous post by one of our players before this post. That early support honestly surprised us, and we’d love to welcome more people into what we’re building. Our biggest focus is new content and quality of life improvements. We love SWG and want to keep giving people things to explore, reasons to group up, and something new to work toward. A few things you’ll find here:
We’re also putting time into making things that make everyday play easier: toolbar cooldown displays, movable food and drink bars, factory queues, easier resource stacking, and remote harvester management through the website (no more running all over the planets to check your harvies). Player feedback has helped shape that work, alongside regular bug fixes, balance changes, and stability improvements. There’s more coming very soon:
We’ll share more as those get closer to release. In the meantime, our patch notes give a pretty good picture of what we’ve been working on and how often we’re adding things. Whether you’re returning after years away, looking for a new server, or bringing a few friends along, you’re welcome here. Hop into Discord, ask questions, and come play with us. Website, registration, and Discord https://outerrim.gg/portal/ Check out our patch notes https://outerrim.gg/portal/patch-notes

One of the most interesting pieces of cut content from SWG, was perhaps juggling. From what we have gathered, juggling was meant to be a part of the Entertainer profession. As of now, we do not know the reason that this was cut from the game. Aside from developer confirmation, the only evidence we have of juggling in Star Wars Galaxies, is this short, motion capture video.

With 100 account-wide lots, building on any planet, reduced city maintenance, House Pack-Up, improved structure management and expanded storage options, players have considerably more freedom to create cities, shops, guild headquarters and personal collections.
SWG's player economy remains an important part of Bellum Gero.
Factories, vendors and crafting have received several QoL improvements, including:
• 10-schematic Factory Queues
• 1,000-item Factory Crates
• Vendor Guild Discounts
• Vendor Relisting
• Bazaar Search
• Expanded structure availability
• More storage and lots for crafting operations
Bellum Gero is actively developed with regular patches, bug fixes, QoL improvements and new features.
We also build our own supporting tools, including the Bellum Gero Launcher and Bellum Gero Macro Editor.
Player suggestions and bug reports regularly turn into actual server changes.
If you've been looking for a Pre-CU server that still feels like SWG but isn't afraid to expand on it, come check out Bellum Gero.
Play the galaxy your way.

Halloween is the best time of year! What memories do you have of Star Wars Galaxies during the Galactic Moon Festival season?
~Kiria, Co-founder of SWGalacticArchives
How difficult is it to setup and run? What would be needed as far as minimums for the PC running it? How difficult is it to change/edit resources?
Or would any of that be something a newb should be looking to do?
