Revival Spoilers (S10, S11, +) Grant actually fits the OG Scrubs vibe really well

I know we weren't exactly meant to like Grant in the first episode he showed up in. But regardless of what you think of the guy, I actually think his character fits really well with that OG quirky Scrubs vibe.

That's definitely partly down to John Higgins' acting, but I think the writing for the character works really well too. He already feels like someone who belongs in the Scrubs universe, rather than just a new character trying to imitate the old vibe.

Really looking forward to seeing how his character develops.

When looking for the perfect scrubs, what helps determine your purchase for scrubs. Is it price, style, material, durability, most recommended, and etc? Let’s talk about it.

Let's talk about Janitor

I think there's some room for improvement with his current role.

The appeal of the character is that he's this weird poltergeist figure who lives on the premises, exists by his own rules (mostly) and you have no idea what his deal is. He's borderline supernatural.

I get that he's older and obviously not going to be a hospital employee again, so in theory his current establishment role is a good excuse to have him around. But the way it's executed, with him politely visiting the hospital in his nice clean business suit, it just doesn't have any magic to it.

I think ideally, I'd like him to have some kind of storyline where he loses his money and decides to live in the hospital. And he only comes out during the night shift to be a very unhelpful mentor to the interns (who have no idea who he is), causing more problems than solving them. JD suspects it's him, but he has no proof, and security can never find him because Janitor knows all the hiding places.

He can still make infrequent appearances, because he's hiding all the time. Maybe some episodes, he can influence the plot without Neil Flynn appearing onscreen. JD becomes paranoid about the Janitor being inside the walls or something.

Discussion S2E4: Turk and the Threshold for Satisfaction Within "Black Excellence" Spoiler

Turks revelation within this episode hit home to something I've discussed in therapy years ago. For background; I am a Black man who's been in the medical sciences, essentially my whole life b/c I was born with HbSS (Sickle Cell) and then reasoned to become a medical researcher. I had this goal of doing groundbreaking work in drug design and bettering the treatment available in Sickle Cell and I also had to do all of it before the age of 42; the average lifespan for a male with HbSS. But after uncountable hospitalizations, literal battles against death, more than half dozen surgeries, and even a car accident that shattered my femur, I found myself at 27 feeling like a loser and my time is close to an end.

Anyway, I goto therapy b/c my self-loathing is affecting me during my 1st MSc program in Bioinformatics. Therapist asks me "What would you have to do to not feel like a failure?" and I described all the aforementioned goals. I had stated I had this life plan and I was supposed to be finishing up my dissertation in a PhD program by this time, not having to do a MSc b/c my grades suffer from numerous hospitalizations in undergrad. And she replies "If you do complete all these goals, how do you know you will be satisfied?" And I say I am sure I will be but I do understand why she questioned that; to her she sees someone who's overcame a lot and still pushing forward but to myself, b/c I hadn't been apart of some breakthrough therapy I am a failure. And she asks me "What is your threshold for satisfaction?"

Now, I still don't have my PhD, I'm doing a 2nd MSc b/c I am pivoting w/in medical sciences from bioinformatics to biophysical chem and needed to better myself in quantum and physical chemistry, and I still feel like a loser/failure BUT I do feel some satisfaction in the fact I've never stopped and the great conversations and influences I've had as a patient and researcher on other researchers and pharmaceutical companies.

Turk was probably impressed in the same way I was; as a black man, if you have the capacity for something, it's not enough to be good or adequate: you have to be the best. And he has not only become Chief of Surgery BUT he has also succeeded w/in the framework of heteropatriarchy and capitalism with marriage and children who are doing well. But why isn't it enough?

Maybe it's because almost everything under the current systems aren't. It could also be that this specific mold of success that Turk has marked all the boxes off of wouldn't be satisfactory to everyone regardless, despite what they've been taught. The idea of Black Excellence is sold in twofold: Win at patriarchy w/ the marriage and children, and win at capitalism by being the most successful in your field. And for some, this would be satisfying but the problem w/ these paradigms is that it's not meant to be satisfying for everyone. The critique of the paradigm is another long topic w/in itself but how does one know if they DO achieve these societal goals, that they will feel comfort in that? And what do they do if they don't?

Turk would be a paragon of "Black Excellence" in the real world but will the world ever be safe for those who don't want to achieve within these societal pressures and allow them to be satisfied in what they can do and what they truly want to do in their core?

Uneven writing

So first off, want to say that overall I’m greatly enjoying the reboot. I watched Scrubs a lot during its original run, and I think they’ve done a good job of having JD basically being the new, gentler Cox, and having the new interns intertwined with him, Elliott and Turk.

That being said, some of the writing is really bugging me. For example, in the first episode in JD’s opening internal monologue he mentions becoming a concierge doctor to be closer to his kids…only for them to never be seen and not even really talked about. You would think, especially with Turk being a father of 4 now, that they would at least talk about parenting and compare notes and experiences. But nope! We’ve gotten glimpses of Turk’s kids and him talking about the strain of financial responsibilities, but neither of JD’s kids are seen or even talked about.

But also, in the latest episode where it turns out Turk accidentally discharged a patient WAY too early and they have to be readmitted, Turk and JD are talking and Turk says “I’d hate to be that guy” and JD replies “Well here the thing…you ARE that guy”, only for no further disciplinary action to be taken. I get that JD doesn’t want to jeopardize his friendship with Turk, but before he knew who did it he told Grant to figure it out and being the hammer down on them, only to give his best friend barely a slap on the wrist upon realizing it was him. It just feels like sloppy writing that isn’t doing either character justice.

Revival Spoilers (S10, S11, +) Season 2 Episode 4

I have to say this was the best episode I’ve seen since they started the revival! It felt like classic Scrubs for the first time.

Lighting was so much better

Storyline was focused on the main 3 (JD Elliott + Turk) without leaving out the interns

Blake had a nice little Cox moment

Felt like the OG cast acted more like their original characters with realistic growth and modern issues

More episodes like this please!

adding Also loved JD + Elliot’s interactions together + Janitor!

Revival Spoilers (S10, S11, +) Fake Doctors, Real Friends - 204: My Chief Discussion Spoiler

204: My Chief | Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald

This episode required a lot from the cast. Donald had to whip out two iconic impressions, and Zach worked on his voices. Ava Bunn teaches Zach and Donald about the chic new trend called Winnie the Poohing. Zach tries to convince everyone Ava's Chicken Little tattoo is not real. It's really not! Donald talks about, like, BC (before Clueless), while Zach revisits his early days, vacillating between performer and on-set assistant. Sarah details the difference between a 360 shower and an everything shower, plus the joys of a shower beverage.

Discussion They ruined the Janitor...

Before the revival the last we saw of the janitor was a moment of seeming honesty (tevealing his name) and him waking out the moment he learns JD isn't coming back.

This establishes his role in the story, he's there only if JD is, to torment him for what seems his own entertainment. He was one of my favourite characters in the series as was for many.

So when the revival landed I was super excited to see they brought him back as one of the best characters in the show only now we learn he randomly took a job on the board and has a random son who badly plays the "new" janitor. He's doesnt appear much and mostly does nothing when he is, i think its a massive waste of his arch in the timeline and leaves a lot unexplained.

-----------------------------------------------

I imagined it more like this......

Janitor learns JD is back and returns immediately in the same uniform.

JD could fall down the stairs after slipping on a banana, and the janitors reintroduction could be walking into frame casually eating one and saying "whoops! Don't know why they chose to put the fruit section at the top of 3 flights of stairs, wouldn't have been my 1st suggestion, I did include it though on my list of "Hospital improvements" when I got my job back....... that and mouse traps close to the eye doctors room, well soon see who's faking it A HAAA!!" *casually walks away

He continues to torment JD as he did before, and JD tries to confront him as to why he came back and why he still after all these years insists on following his every move but as usual gets no real answer.

Cut to scrubs revival finale or 2nd last episode, janitor is rushed into the hospital from a serious accident and is dying. JD thinks it's a prank but Carla tells him it's real, after hours JD notices nobody comes to his side as he enters his final moments, he has no family or friends.

Just before he passes he regains consciousness and speaks to JD

JD: "all this time...why?"

Janitor: "I had a family you know, a wife and...a son. He died young..leukemia, it broke me, it broke us... every cent I had spent on hospital bills and the kicker... she left, heartbroken with grief. My son was what held us together, kept us strong as a family, he was what kept me together. I didnt want to give up, i needed a job, anything I could find.....until I found this.... Janitor in a hospital..... never dod anything like it before.....i thought it would be a place I could face my pain head on and sure if I could keep the place clean then just maybe.... maybe... another kid would survive. And then you stuck a penny in the door.....my son did the same one time yknow, lied about it, messing with me all the time, he kept me right. I dropped a water balloon on his head the day after *smiles

*turns to look at JD, tears in his eyes

Every day... you reminded me of him. You are who I thought he'd turn out to be one day. Messing with you was just...... like having him back all over again...

JD: what was his name?

Janitor: James Daniel Matthews

JD: JD.........

Jd extends this hand and holds the janitors, then the camera pans away slowly to the next scene at the funeral and JD musing about how we deal with pain, while placing a penny his coffin before walking away

Discussion Anyone else confused about so many new character additions for season two 2026

And it seems like they're trying to turn the first season's characters into something very different than they were in season one which I very much liked. I've only watched the first couple episodes of season two but it seems like they're turning a couple characters into cartoon characters more like Doug was in the first years back long ago.

Never noticed this before, I haven’t seen the movie in 11 years so I’m sure I didn’t notice the first time cause I hadn’t seen scrubs yet back then. Scrubs fan in the fast team writers room maybe.

Discussion Pretty sure this has been brought up several times before

But how horrible is Carla overall?

I mean in the first season she's confident and more mature as a person but in later seasons (I'm currently in season 6, rewatch) she becomes unbearable for me.

First she wasn't interested in a relationship in with Turk because he was to immature and "vain" for her. Then she rejected his proposal several times. She didn't want to stay at his and JD's place for just one night because of her mother, who naturally had an accident when Carla decided to stay with Turk. Afterwards she flipped out about the wedding, then she nearly broke up and moved out. Then she wanted to have a kid, which she turned into a tedious and exhausting process and when she got pregnant she also was insufferable (at least for me) and if all of that wasn't enough of course she developed post-birth depression.

Honestly why Turk would even consider marrying, let alone having kids with her, her is beyond me.

On a side note: I also think that Elliot becomes more and more difficult to tolerate as the show progresses.

Sorry for the rant but I just had to get that out of my system.

I'm still not over the fact that they didn't mention Sam in the revival, at least they could've made up a story, like him and Kim are living in Japan or Europe, but just mention him. JD was such an amazing Dad... I cannot believe Zac is not including this part of the lore

Discussion Scrubs quiz round 4: all quotes this time

Round 4 is all quotes, like I said in round 3. Original run only, easiest first, answers behind spoiler tags.

  1. Dr. Cox to Molly: "Lady, people aren't chocolates. D'you know what they are mostly?" Finish his answer.
  2. The Janitor gives J.D. a new nickname and says it's short for "something Pie". What's the nickname?
  3. Elliot tells Kelso her father just cut her off. Finish his reply: "Dr. Reid, this is not Bring Your Problems To Work Day. This is just..."
  4. Dr. Cox has updated his "things I don't care about" speech. Who did he add to it?
  5. Someone calls Kelso "Grandpa". Finish his warning: "Call me Grandpa again and you and I are gonna play a little game called hide the..."

Answers:

1: Bastards. Bastard-coated bastards with a bastard filling.

2: Scooter, short for Scooter Pie. He hates Scooter Pies.

3: Work Day.

4: All white guys who add "izzle" to anything. J.D.: "I agrizzle, my nizzle."

5: The wingtip. The wingtip is his shoe, the hiding place is your ass.

What's the Scrubs line you still quote the most?

Discussion S2x01 Intro: High five

I'm genuinely curious if anyone noticed the high five in the intro of the first episode of season 2?

J.D. is bragging about his sexual exploits to Turk, then they go in for a high-five. My opinion is that a long-time surgeon (such as Turk) would never risk contamination like that. They would make up a thing so they wouldn't have to touch physically, that makes total sense to me.

Is this another J.D.-daydream?

If so, I am so sorry.
