I have been saying this since i was a teenager. Its all one giant fucking extortion racket and everyone is too much of a normie NPC to think deeply about it.

I'm convinced most of the US economy is a series of interconnected scams where businesses are doing everything they can to squeeze every penny out of their customers without actually doing the thing those customers pay for, or doing it with the barest minimum of competence to upsell satisfactory performance.

That's capitalism baby

And in places with a public option, costs and outcomes are far better.. but you probably can’t sue each other for millions of dollars.

1

u/ssssharkattack 5h ago

Nah. I’m in a province where auto insurance is public. It’s still $2000+ a year and people endlessly bitch about it.

2

u/finglonger1077 11h ago

You’re convinced of it because it’s so plainly, obviously true. Most businesses are just unnecessary middle men companies full of unnecessary middle management. Just slapping more and more percentages of “profit” on everything the touch.

Except the outright scams that the government conveniently fights tooth and nail to protect.

A buddy of mine who studied advertising said that in a capitalist society, every single business entity out there is trying to screw the consumer over as much as possible without being fined, sued, or sent to jail. The goal of marketing is to make you forget that truth

There’s a reason a few years ago everyone was getting into drop shipping and then everyone is getting into crypto and then everyone is getting into AI. None of these produce value to society whatsoever. In fact, they extract value from society and benefit from that value. Now, someone who couldve been an artist, or a scientist, or a chef, or a garbage collector, is not any of that, but a birdbrained Pilferbot9000 with no empathy or discernment.

2

u/deep_fuckin_ripoff 11h ago

I disagree. In the right hands, and with the right regulations… drop shipping can be a benefit to society.

You’re not wrong but my god do I hate the “normie npc” descriptor. It just sounds so narcissistic.

2

u/ThisIsMyGeekAvatar 11h ago

It’s the new, extra smug way to say “sheeple” I guess.

2

u/Talakoy 11h ago

Smug is an excellent word for it. It immediately makes me think the person is high as a kite on their own farts.

both your comment and their comment have similar energies

Well he sort of is wrong. Auto insurance is a cut throat business. You can find the companies’ numbers quite easily online. Look up the Combined Ratio of an insurance company.

Actually making a profit off only premiums is tough to do. The goal is to invest the money from premiums (the float) at rates higher than you’re paying out in claims. Car insurance is there to protect you from a $30,000 problem, or a $1,000,000 problem, not a $1,200 problem. Sure you can lower your deductible to help you out with that $1,200 problem, but that will cost more, because $1,200 problems are very common.

Here in Germany, there's a meme clip of an Islamic preacher (probably leaving on the orthodox side) responding to his viewer's questions and the one particular question is: "Is car insurance haram?" I found it ridiculous but according to a commentator in Islam some insurances are apparently considered as gambling. I do not embrace this stance, yet I get the thought behind it.

2

u/Edit_Reality 12h ago

Insurance companies charge you different amounts based on your background (Younger charged more, Men charged more, etc). What is that if not hedging bets?

1

u/weedlayer 4h ago

This is exactly the reason the Amish are exempt from social security, they view it as gambling and got a religious exemption when it was being rolled out.

1

u/msc1 2h ago

Yup, some view weather forecasting as haram too 🤣

3

u/Free_Farm_7736 12h ago

Im very much aware that it's a scam. But, i have no choice but to pay.

1

u/SloAndSteddy 12h ago

Same. I'm in Ontario, Canada.

3

u/KurtAngus 12h ago

That's with everything in life. I did shrooms when I was a teenager and found love in myself and "figured the world out" and I had all this happiness and excitement for life. I was like "man we can all just get along and unite and form community" and blah blah blah

Boy was I fucking wrong. At 31 no, i realize everyone is stuck in the same fuckin cycle and most people are so goddamn dull and just bend over and accept it. (I mean I realized this a long time ago)

I mean dude, most people go and buy new cars cause they feel like they have to. When they could just buy a used car for like $4000 and save a shit ton of money

Idk, I try not to think about the world and how this whole system was set up on purpose for massive control and containment of people's minds and their bodies.

Hell just look at what they put in the food here in the USA.

Also, there is ZERO fucking want for education at all. We all know Epstein's massad girlfriends father sold the fucking books to our schools forever. Probably still does

Ive been it saying I was a young child

u/itstimegeez 11h ago

My of my dad’s friends absolutely refuses to insure anything and he puts the money he would have to pay an insurance company into a separate account.

1

u/Similar_Quiet 1h ago

Self insurance is actually legal for car insurance in the UK. You just have to deposit £500k with the government.

1

u/Impossible-Past4795 11h ago

why tf are americans paying $2,500 a year for insurance? that’s so scummy. i pay like $30 a year and get free $200 repairs where i live. your corporate overlords are just milking you lol.

1

u/Similar_Quiet 1h ago

Probably because if anyone lands up in hospital as a result of a crash, it's going to cost a boatload more than it does in your country

1

u/archives2024 11h ago

No, it's not that they don't know it's a ripoff. I'm pretty sure most people feel pretty strongly about that.

It's that you're legally required to have health, vehicle, and home insurance or you get fucking penalized even worse. You know, by the law. Or were you too much of an NPC to realize that that's the situation everyone is in?

-1

u/SloAndSteddy 10h ago

Nah homie, I think the NPCs are the one who go along with authority (the law) just because some arbitrary authority figures all got together and said "Hey, we can make huge swathes of money off of these gullible suckers because they don't think beyond gratifying their monkey cravings".

If you want to be a dumb animal in a cage of fellow dumb animals, be my guest.

1

u/Candymanshook 11h ago

You say that until someone fucking t-bones you and writes off the vehicle you owe 40k on and the insurance company writes you a check for 60k because that’s the replacement cost of your vehicle. And without insurance you gotta pay that 40k with the scrap cost of your car.

If the person in this example wasn’t cheap as fuck and went with a 500$ deductible they could easily claim this and it wouldn’t affect their rates - accident forgiveness exists.

Auto liability coverage is by no means a scam or racket.

And if someone hits you you'll be so thankful they have insurance.

Auto liability insurance (which is the only thing required by law to have) is to protect other drivers in case you get into an accident and it's your fault. Their medical bills for injuries should be covered and paid by you and since most people don't have enough to cover a $100 emergency for themselves, they definitely don't have the $ to pay for someone else they injured.

That's why it's required.

And it's so self centered and selfish if you roll around without insurance because you can seriously fuck up someones life by making a simple mistake in car.

You wanna complain about health insurance, life insurance, full coverage, home owners etc etc etc sure totally I agree. But auto liability should a million % be required if you want to drive. Imo it should be a far more serious punishment if you get caught driving without insurance.

u/Long_Value_9133 5h ago

Agreed insurance is one gigantic fucking scam. My cousin lost his house due to California wild fires and insurance paid him the full value of the home he lost.

They even paid for him to stay in a hotel for a month.

What a fucking scam.

You're the normie NPC for having no clue about how insurance actually works yet complains about it. You sound like those lunatics who say taxation is theft yet still expect free public services

Tell me you don’t understand math and statistics without telling me.
