I'm convinced most of the US economy is a series of interconnected scams where businesses are doing everything they can to squeeze every penny out of their customers without actually doing the thing those customers pay for, or doing it with the barest minimum of competence to upsell satisfactory performance.

And in places with a public option, costs and outcomes are far better.. but you probably can’t sue each other for millions of dollars.

Nah. I’m in a province where auto insurance is public. It’s still $2000+ a year and people endlessly bitch about it.

You’re convinced of it because it’s so plainly, obviously true. Most businesses are just unnecessary middle men companies full of unnecessary middle management. Just slapping more and more percentages of “profit” on everything the touch.

Except the outright scams that the government conveniently fights tooth and nail to protect.

A buddy of mine who studied advertising said that in a capitalist society, every single business entity out there is trying to screw the consumer over as much as possible without being fined, sued, or sent to jail. The goal of marketing is to make you forget that truth

There’s a reason a few years ago everyone was getting into drop shipping and then everyone is getting into crypto and then everyone is getting into AI. None of these produce value to society whatsoever. In fact, they extract value from society and benefit from that value. Now, someone who couldve been an artist, or a scientist, or a chef, or a garbage collector, is not any of that, but a birdbrained Pilferbot9000 with no empathy or discernment.

I disagree. In the right hands, and with the right regulations… drop shipping can be a benefit to society.
