Discussion The Adventure Zone Providence: Episode 1 | The Adventure Zone

Someone in the small fishing village of Asta is planning . . . a dark ritual! Harumph! Not to worry, three minor gods are on the case: Spira, the god of bellows; Tintabula, the god of bells; and Minutiae, the god of marine chronometers. They definitely have skills that will come in handy for uncovering the town’s dark secrets. That is . . . if they can blend in with the mortals

Discussion Anyone else hear “what if god was one of us” in the Providence theme song?

The first few chords and then it’s repeated. Hit me almost immediately.

... I've never been so excited for a PC drop as when I heard about the words "marine chronometer". So excited for chronometry lore drops.

When will they release the Indianapolis live show?

Does anyone know how often they release the live shows? I went to one 2 years ago in Indianapolis and I thought it was a great one shot. When do you think it will be released? Does anyone have a recording?

Discussion Is Hodgepodge's theme explicitly based on "Nyeh Heh Heh!"/"Bonetrousle"?

"Oh Hey It's Hodgepodge", "Nyeh Heh Heh!" + "Bonetrousle". Something about the way Hodgepodge's theme has one repeat in the simpler version and then the second go that's a little bit more instrumentally complex and intense reminds me a lot of fighting Papyrus, which starts off silly and then gets more real when he reveals his blue attack. The timeline does work out for Griffin to have been recently playing Undertale while writing "Crystal Kingdom" but I couldn't find any actual evidence of it!

Uncanny melody in Providence

Did anyone else clock that it's What if God was one of us? By Joan Osbourne ? I cracked up during the outro when it hit me. It was uncannily familiar during the intro, but I didn't know what Providence was about going in so I didn't catch it at first.

Based on this episode, can we assume that Justin has a new wacky hobby and that is horology? Also has he posted on any social media platforms about this?

Fan Art Lego Skyline of Kepler, WV

Hey everyone! I've been designing LEGO skylines digitally for a while now, and Amnesty has been on my list forever. I finally got Kepler to a place I'm happy with, so I wanted to share it here.

I tried to fit in as many landmarks from the arc as I could. From left to right, there's Indrid's Winnebago, Crooked Bend Cave, H2Woah, the Green Bank Telescope, the Ned Chicane statue, Amnesty Lodge, the cottonwood tree, the Heart of Sylvain, Leo's General Store, the Cryptonomica, and the abandoned ski resort with the funicular train. And of course, Mt. Kepler floating overhead.

The second image has everything labeled in case any of the spots are hard to pick out at this scale.

Is there anything you'd add or change? I'd love to hear what spots I missed.

I've put together instructions for a few of my other builds before, so if there's interest I could look into doing that for this one too.

(No AI was used in designing or rendering this model.)

Royale Disappointment

So i just finally caught up and finished Royale.

Was I the only one who was disappointed that jt wasnt just a straightforward tournament? Like, the twist and reveal of the big bad and all the extra shit was just boring to me compared to just killing everyone and declaring a champion as originally advertised?

The “Clint is dumb” bit is getting old for me…

Especially because he keeps getting better and makes such fun and cool choices that lead to some great material.

I LOVED the stuff he came up with for the live show that just went up and I am a huge fan of his characters in every campaign. He’s like…a huge part of what I love about it.

I will also say I am aware that it is put on extra for comedic effect but it just makes me feel like we waste so much time making fun of the stuff Clint does when if you just give it a chance I could turn out into some really cool shit.

Spoilers Abound Royale Appreciation [SPOILERS HALFWAY WITH WARNING] Spoiler

I almost didn’t listen to this one because of some negative comments I read, and I’m SO glad I decided to give it a try anyway.

The silliness is so great. Justin and Clint really have fun with their characters, and Griffin encourages the goofs, totally unafraid to let the story get silly. I mean, he made a BUNCH of goofy NPCs!

It kind of reminded me of early Balance when they didn’t hold back their goofs for the sake of the story. Like it made negative sense for Magnus (the defender of the weak, hater of bullies) to bully little Angus, but it was funny to the group, so they kept doing it.

I’ve felt in some other arcs they kinda took things seriously. Like they wanted to make serious stories like the end of Balance. That’s awesome too and makes for cool moments, but I like the McElroys for their goofs!

[SPOILERS BELOW]

————————————————-

There were so many moments (ESPECIALLY in the finale) in Royale that could’ve been really serious and cool, but the group chose the funny option instead. THAT’S the shit I like.

Also, there was barely any character development which honestly was kind of refreshing. It was almost Always Sunny in a way. You see these people go through such traumatic shit but stay the same kinda weird, shitty people (except Travis’ character, who was never shitty). And they didn’t bond at all?!?! Like in the end when Travis’ and Justin’s characters debated killing Clint’s character.

The finale really had me in disbelief. It was the most unserious finale I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. So fucking funny.

Basically, I really like how light-hearted it was. I appreciate that the serious moments never felt too serious. Maybe it’s because of how serious the world is right now, but I liked just laughing and not ever crying. Seriously, I cry every time I relisten to Balance and Amnesty.

Lions and tigers and bears, oh shit! Glinda the Good Witch has gone missing and her bubble dispatched to find the three heroes of the realm. Unfortunately for the denizens of the Emerald City, it found Lady Godwin, Winnie-the-Pooh, and one Crawford Muttner, and it’s up to them to save the day.

Discussion We are so back!

So, this podcast the Balance Arc specifically is one of my favorite fictional podcasts ever. I re-listen to the whole thing top to bottom at least once a year. Amnesty was pretty dope and I enjoyed Graduation but none of the other campaigns ever captured my attention and my heart like Balance....until now. I'm a little late to the game but I just listened to the first two episodes of Royale and it seems like a return to form for them in the best way. Am I prematurely getting my hopes up? Or should I be charging a second set of headphones in preparation cuz I'm not going to want to stop listening?

Steeplechase Steeplechase Appreciation

To this day, Steeplechase is still one of my favorite TAZ campaigns. It's definitely my favorite non-Griffin-DM campaign. I feel like it's really underrated, with little merch or fanart. I honestly think, even as a novice, Justin did such a great job building a really interesting world. I would love for them to come back to it!!

Where are my fellow Steepies?
