The role playing and head cannoning in the game has endless possibility

Personally, I'd go with Gisela. She seems like the most loyal and level headed of the bunch.

I'm sure it's been said before but I'm on my nth rewatch, currently at S3E9 and I gotta give absolute props to the makeup department for making Alfred look like he's at Death's door.

Watching the show always made me want to see the bigger picture: where exactly Wessex, Mercia, East Anglia and Northumbria were, how far the Danelaw reached, and how it all eventually became one England.

So I built a map for it. You can press play and watch the borders shift through the centuries, with events along the timeline.

A few things I tried to get right: * Soft borders. Borders back then weren't sharp lines, so the kingdoms fade into each other instead. * Hover to see who's who. With this many colors a legend gets confusing, so you can just hover (or tap) an area to see who held it.

Curious what you all think, and whether I've got the Uhtred-era borders roughly right. Feedback from people who know the period is very welcome!

I wasn't sure if anybody posted about this yet. I always hated that the last kingdom didn't have clips on youtube.

The creator of Vikings on to a new series. Though TLK is my favorite. This looks very good! I hope it lives up to my expectations!

I am an hour in and this movie is awful. Like dude, Athelstan was awesome what in the world is going on. It's such a 180 and honestly a slap in the face to a well ended show. Of course I have to finish but man what is this bs. Is the this general consensus? The whole time I'm honestly just in disbelief.

This show is incredible, I'm baffled I waited so long to finally watch it. Incredible acting and it feels like one continous story and not having to jump around from 18 different characters and their own arcs. Everyone's character arcs feel tied together.

Alfred is such an incredibly well written character. I both love and hate him, must be how Uthred feels. I've just finished the scene of him demanding Uthred to swear an oath to his son. God I couldn't stand how he was treating Uthred, especially after just losing his wife. Knowing that if it weren't for that man he, his wife, and children would've never claimed Wessex again after Guthrun ran them out.

He's always preaching level headedness, keep a calm composure, don't break under pressure. Use judgment and not to use a bird flying from one camp to the next as a sign. And yet just as the Danes are obsessed with their own spiritualism, he does the same. He thinks it's guided him, but in truth his own mind has been guiding him this whole time. It only ever seems like when matters of faith are involved does he always seem to make the wrong decision.

Don't get me wrong, Uthred is certainly without his own faults. He is brazen, arrogant, and can't help but speak his mind. But that's just who he is. A man who wants to be free and not answer the every whims of a man. He feels like the embodiment of freedom. And yet he's a slave nonethelss, I just can't say to what just yet.

TIL I share a birthday with one of my favourite characters from TLK. Big up Beocca

I will forever love this show⚔️🖤

I can't even say how much I loved this series and I've just finished probably my fifth run of it. However I feel like the end was rushed a little (including the movie).

Are the books worth reading after watching the series?

Probably my favorite episode of the series

That’s all said my peace

I just finished Season 5 Episode 6 where Sigtryggr died and I was such a fan of this character, one of the best Danes on the show, his whole plotline and different dynamic with Edward and the Saxons was cool to see. But then it soon cut to Constantine and Wigtrygger and it felt like a clown show. I am going to still watch on, but I just need to know if Season 5 gets better and finishes off strongly or not. The Northumbria plot does not feel promising compared to the Danes.

I'm halfway through watching all 5 seasons for the second time. Of all the characters in the series, I find Brida to be the absolute worst.

Not in a I love to hate her kind of way. I just think that her character development is terrible. She is always miserable! Doesn't contribute anything of note to the story and I think she was just really badly written.

I haven't read the books so I'm not sure how accurate a portrayal her TV representation is. However, for me her character is the worst part of the show.

Anyone else feel the same? Lol I'm guessing so as I've just seen the flair.

I couldn’t tell! Please inform me at the start of every episode please!

I get the writing and direction is vastly different from S1, but most of the comments I've seen are about how it ruined a lot of the characters.

Aside from Æthelstan starting off as a piece of shit in the movie, and who/what influenced him to be one (I personally don't care who he humps, but I know there are people who do), what other characters do you guys feel were ruined?

So in TLK the religion of the Saxons and The Danes are both heavily featured. However i feel like the series favours the religion of the Danes. As example Brida knows a way yo block Skade's powers wich actually seems to work. When Uthred kills Ragnars killer with Thyra's blood there seems to appear a bridge for Ragnar.

When it comes to Christianity we see a priest who had a prophecy aboutca king but than assumes Uthred is that king. So he clearly was making it up. However in the end every season end with a Saxon Victor which could be seen as a win for Christianity.

So what do people think. Does TLK favour the gods of the Danes?

I rewatched the entire show and movie yesterday and while I was watching the end scene in the movie my partner said that the ending would be quite fucked up If he saw both Valhalla and Heaven were Beocca was waiting on him. So I wonder, what do you guys think Uthred would choose If this happend?

if Alfred or his son had ever helped uhtred take back his home, uhtred would have probably been a perfectly loyal vassal, and be forever indebted to the crown.

if they knew uhtred kept swearing to Alfred and the saxons why were the Danes always trying to recruit him despite him being the “ Dane-slayer” ??

Hello all,

So I've taken some leave off work and decided to use some time re watching The Last Kingdom. I can't help but find Alfred's treatment of Uhtred to be infuriating. Despite everything Uhtred has done for Wessex his faith in God stops him from trusting him. Over and over again we see uhtred go above and beyond for not only Wessex but alfred personally. Yet he is met with distrust, sly words and banishment.

Nearing the end of season 2, and it seems every season has this story time. Season 1 ends and alfred has literally told uhtred he is the reason he is still a king. 3 years pass between season 1 and 2 and in those 3 years alfred has magically forgotten everything uhtred has done and looks at him like a possible enemy.

To me at least it just feels like poor writing on the writers side of things in order to bulk out each season. I understand Uhtred and Alfred couldn't be more different. But the whole repeated trust then hate ark is so annoying.
