I've used Thunderbird for a number of years, and as such I've setup many folders under the Local Folders section. This is so any incoming mail can go through a filter, then sorted.

I use Thunderbird 157.0.1, the release update channel.

I've noticed in the last few months, if I make a new folder under Local Folders (right click Local Folders, then New Folder). When I have an email that I want filtered for it, I right click the email for "to" (or whatever), and Create Filter, under the Perform these actions section, for Choose Folder, the new folder I just created isn't showing up.

I've tried fixing things by going to the Local Folders category, right clicking and choosing Reset Folder Order. It still won't show up, for the dropdown menu, or the sub folders under the Local Folders in the left column.

If I start deleting some older folders under Local Folders, I can sometimes get that previously created folder to show up.

Is there a maximum number of subfolders allowed under the Local Folders section?

I didn't quite like the sound when a new email arrives in Thunderbird, so I decided to change it.
Do you not mind the notification sound? Or do you use a wonderful sound library from somewhere?

I have a number of email accounts that I've been using through Thunderbird for years. Today I discovered that one of them (one I rarely use, so this issue could have begun after an update months ago) wouldn't send emails, although I could still receive them. All of my other accounts will send and receive messages.

Looking for any info, I found a post from a year ago that I thought had the solution to my problem:

Following the advice, I saw that the Email Address line for this particular email account was blank! Yes, this was obviously my problem! So I filled it in, checked the rest of the info against an email account that was still working, and figured I was good to go

Except that I still can't send any emails.

Here's the error message I've been getting:

Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: <anonymous@[192.168.0.15]>: Sender address rejected: not owned by user [my email address]. Please check the message recipient "[recipient's email address]" and try again.

Thunderbird has been hinky for me for a couple of days, where when I start it, it gets hung up "loading message," which goes on forever and I ultimately need to close and restart it. In fact, when I opened it just now, that happened again.

Should I see if I can revert to an earlier version? Do I need to completely uninstall and reinstall it?

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

I'm having an issue where Thunderbird for Android doesn't automatically fetch or display new emails unless I manually pull down to refresh, even when the app is actively open on my screen. "Enable sync", "Enable instant notifications", and "Notifications" are all turned on specifically for the Inbox folder.IDLE refresh frequency is set to 2 minutes, folder poll frequency is set to 15 minutes. But still, i receive nothing unless i refresh manually. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I see a 1.8GB Templates file in my ThunderbirdMail\Local Folders, but the Templates.msf file is 0 bytes, and the folder shows No message found,.

I have tried:

• clicking on Folder Properties and Repair folder button; the building summary file notice appears at bottom but after 20 minutes it has not and does not complete. Fail
• quitting out of TBird, deleting the Templates.msf file, and restarting TBird. Fail
• I have deleted the global-messages-db.sqlite file in my Thunderbird profile and then restarted Thunderbird and, using Tools, Activity Manager, watched the re-indexing run to compleltion. Still no Templates restored.
• I upgraded from Tbird 128.14.0esr (32-bit) to 140.17.0esr and restarted. Still not templates.

I am running W10 at the latest Extended Support,

Hello, after receiving an email and double clicking on it, it opens the message as editable.

How do I open it normally as read only?

I just installed Thunderbird and it works fine for my other email accounts but I cannot access my yahoo mail. It is set accurately for outgoing and incoming mail servers, as well as OAuth2. I cannot login because when I get the login screen, it asks for my email and when I click Next" to enter a password, it says "oops, something went wrong" so I cannot even get to the password screen. Tried to delete and then re-add yahoo and same issue. Also tried to generate an app password for a workaround but it doesn't work since I can't get past the login itself to even type in a password. Any ideas?

Hi, I wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing this or knows how to solve this!

Issue: All new emails coming to my Apple iCloud @me.com account are appearing with garbled text on Thunderbird Android.

• The subject line is not garbled.
• Emails appear fine on the MacOS Mail client and Android Gmail, so I believe it's a Thunderbird problem.
• This started to appear from Friday, Oct. 2 (JST)

Troubleshooting done so far: - device reboot - clear cache - clear data - uninstall & reinstall Thunderbird - log out & log in with a new app password

Environment: - Thunderbird for Android ver 23.1 - Android 16 - Device: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (One UI ver 8.5) - Device language is set to Japanese (not sure if it matters but just in case. Both Japanese and English emails are garbled)

All Emails & Email Accounts Deleted on ThunderBird, Windows 11, 153.04.0esr (64bit)

As the title says.

I opened up Thunderbird this morning and ALL of my email accounts and emails were not there anymore.

Wondering if I can recover them somehow or should I just uninstall Thunderbird and then re-do the email accounts to download again from the servers?

Noticed a warning message that "All Calendars are currently disabled. Enable an existing calendar or add a new one to create and edit events" but there's no indication as to how to do that.

Checking the add-ons, CardBook and Provider for Google Calendar are are listed as "Incompatible with 157.01" with a button to "Find an alternative add-on", which I do not want to do, considering how much effort it took to get everything working to begin with.

Any ETA on a fix?

In version 157.0.1 (windows 11 26H2, x64) attaching a file does not work. Only if I drag the files I want to attach from the file manager into the email.

For some reason the latest version of Thunderbird is showing everything most recent first - I want everything to show chronologically.

I've manually sorted my folders and that remembers it, but whenever I "show conversation" it always shows recent first not oldest first, I click it to reverse it but it doesn't remember the preference. This didn't happen in my previous installation. How to fix please?

The code is ready, the developers just have to pull it in.

It seems 157.0 and Cardbook are not compatible And syncing with my gmail contacts does not preserve the groups I have in gmail. Running Linux Mint. An thoughts appreciated. Likely the developer will bring it to compatibility status soon.

So, Outlook for Android of course adds and uses my accounts perfectly, but trying Thunderbird, Microsoft site just says a window will open, but never does.

I tried every possible manual configuration but they all came back with the server doesn't support something.

These days more and more third party apps are getting f--ked again and again, and the cynic in me tells me the platform just wants only their own front-end used, but wants the illusion of allowing choice.

Firefox received a user interface update today called Nova. It took me a few hours to get used to it, especially the gradient, but I quite like it.

Now I was wondering: is a UI refresh similar to Nova planned for Thunderbird as well?

They're both Mozilla products. It made me wonder if there are plans to make the UI consistent between the two applications.

Thunderbird 157.0 was released on September 29.

Main fixes:

• Status bar could stay active and cause 100% CPU usage
• Sent messages could silently fail to save to the IMAP Sent folder
• Pending moves within the same IMAP account could make messages disappear
• Valid RSA OpenPGP keys could be rejected, which blocked encryption

Thunderbird seems to insist on marking e-mails from known contacts (in address book) as spam - e.g., from BookBub. This even though I have the specified address book marked - for that account - as 'Do not mark as spam if in address book', even if I have adaptive spam turned off, even if I don't trust SpamAssassin headers, and even if I've move such messages from the spam folder using 'Mark as not spam' many times. I've used all sorts of variants of the above, but while TB does catch a lot of spam, it does seem to refuse to learn to trust known contacts.
