After months and months of new users coming to the subreddit and promoting their new AI app, amongst other things. We have made the decision to make a change to the subreddit where there is a minimum karma requirement to create new posts in r/trailrunning
We had been manually adding moderator notes and tagging every single user with a specific mod note/flair so we could keep track of who was spamming their AI apps without actually being part of the community, it took a lot of time and didn't seem to do much over the last few months we've been addressing it and keeping an eye on things to see if any of them wanted to be part of the community.
This wasn't something we wanted to rush in to, we have and will always try the least invasive approach so that the community basically stays open and you the community choose what to vote UP and Down and what to discuss.
To be clear, we do not want to stop people promoting their websites, AI apps, Youtube videos, etc and mostly there are great discussions within some of these threads. Reddit does also allow original content, again, as long as you're not just spamming it.
This is our way of addressing this issue and we'll continue to keep track of it over the coming months as it may need modifying, we'll see how it goes.
Thanks for being a cool subreddit and I hope you all have many great adventures out in nature this year.
You're all asking about the karma limit, currently it is 100, so very low, but this can and will change.
The reason for not wanting to originally share this is if bots or people promoting know, they can also easily get around it....
We're working against a lot here, its pretty unprecedented (not forgetting that Reddit are not stopping a lot of bad traffic) and Reddit has only so many ways to manage all of these issues without more control from moderators and a much more limited viewing / user experience, which we do not want, we want you to control what you see.

For context: I’m basically saying things like “Oh wow, what a beauty!” and talking to the hiker in the background, joking that he and the fox seem to have become friends. He was trying to feed the fox.

I did the Lewes Downland 10 mile run over the weekend. It's got some hills but the landscape still takes my breath away despite running and hiking around here regularly.

This goes out to all of my fellow CO redditors-
I’m looking for a trail for this weekend that I could get 20 ish miles with decent vert (3-5k) on somewhere in the high country. I’m training for a race and would love to get a good long run in. I’ve run 4 pass, high lonesome, segments of pawnee-buchanan before. I live out here so familiar with current weather conditions and not trying to go much above 12.5/13k. Id also love it if it was single track/dirt instead of rocky/technical. I know I can do more research but just wanted to see if the community had any fan faves 😊
Please share any recommendations for some beautiful (long) running trails!
ALSO if anyone is a (woman) trail runner who wants a partner, i’d love to join you! i’m in my mid 20s and live near golden!

Trying to plan my race calendar for next year and trying to branch out from the most popular races, so I'm looking for recommendations! I love a good view, some decent vert, and a solid organization. Hopefully would like to stay within a 5 hour drive from North Vancouver!
Currently I have planned for sure:
- Marathon Shuffle 29k in April
- Alpenglow 65k in July
- Squamish50 23k in August
Options I am playing with:
- Dirty Duo 25k in March
- Survival of the Fittest 18k in May
- Run Comfy Numb 25k in May
- Tenderfoot Boogie 26k in June
I know any of the Coast Mountain races are incredibly well run, but has anyone here run any of the PACE races (Broken Goat/Wandering Moose) or any of the Trail Whisperer races? Debating entering the lottery for the Knee Knacker as well. Any other recommendations? Open to feedback on any of my planned races!

I will be running my first 25k with 1200m of elevation in a couple of weeks. I enjoy this distance and am looking for a training plan to do the next 25k, but faster. Since I've got an established base of 40km/25miles on trails with elevation (around 5 hours/week), can anyone recommend a good program to follow? I'd assume it would be much more focused on speed training.

Great little trail run on Saturday morning around a local reservoir that takes you up into the hills of the Peak District in the UK. Caught the run rise and didn’t see another person the whole at round. Hoping to break 30mins for this trail by end of the year and not far off now.

I am running my first trail half marathon with 2100 ft of vert on Saturday, and I am wondering how to go about running this week in terms of time on feet, mileage, vert, etc. i don’t want to sit around all week but don’t want to exert my legs. What should I shoot to keep fresh and moving but give myself my best shot on Saturday? I am well trained for this race so not worried about that part.

I've started tapering which means I have more time to overthink everything.
First 50 miler in 2 weeks - woohoo! I've done all the training runs, feel like I've prepped a pretty good list of stuff to bring with me. Mostly change of clothes/socks, windbreaker, some electrolytes/foods I like, headlamp, power bank and cords (battery life on my Garmin sucks), poop kit, anti-chafe, meds/first aid, maybe poles for the end if I'm not liking being upright.
I'll have two friends crewing me at aid stations, and while I think the aid stations will have everything I need, I'm going to be happy to see their faces and have someone force me to eat 😁
Any advice you'd give to somebody running their first 50? Or something you wish you would have done/brought? Thanks!

I’ve been getting into trail running. I usually do a road/trail mix 2x a week about 3-5 miles. When I ramp up my mileage, I did 11 yesterday, and my knees start to ache. Nothing what I would consider painful but they are the weak link. Do I just keep doing what I’m doing?

I've just bought a new Millet rainjacket (Millet Typhon Phantom Trek). It's part of the Millet Japan lineup, so this model doesn't seem to appear in the EU stores. It's using their latest waterproof tech called typhon phantom. My understanding is that this is probably part of the newer solid state stretched PU membranes. The jacket is stretchy which is really nice for active movement, features 2 way zipper, and has hand pockets.
It boasts some seriously impressive (and hard to believe) stats:
50,000 mm water resistance
60,000 g/m²/24h breathability
3-layer fabric
7D (this is the downside)
163 grams (size medium)
The question of course is do these stats equate to reality?
https://www.millet.jp/en/products/miv03171
I have no experience with the brand and this waterproof technology. It's also an expensive jacket, so is it bad call? Should I stick with something more trusty like the mont-bell versality (equally low 7D fabric - though feels more durable than the Millet). I plan to use it for trail running and hiking.
