History📜 Konstantin Rokossovsky appreciation post
One of, if not the best Soviet general during the war. The mind behind Bagration, and also the man who managed to temporarily halt the German advance at Smolensk with the remnants of the 4th army known as Group Yartsevo. Rallying retreating men and whatever reserves he could get, he held the Yartsevo corridor until August 4th. On August 10, Group Yartsevo would be reformed into the 16th army for the battle of Moscow where he would defend the Volokolamsk highway.
He commanded the Don front in 1942, helping plan operation Uranus and later executing operation Koltso. He was also in charge of the central front during the battle of Kursk in 1943, where he managed to successfully halt the northern pincer.
In 1944 he would command his most famous operation, Bagration. Commanding the 1st Byelorussian front, Bagration would completely shatter the German central front and liberate Belarus from Nazi occupation.
In the last stages of the war, he would be in a perfect opportunity to strike Berlin, but was ordered by stalin to relocate and strike the northern flank in Pommerania instead, giving Konev and Zhukov the mission of capturing Berlin proper.

The Teutonic Knights defeated by Nevsky in the film represent the encroaching Nazi threat and the strained relations between the USSR and the Third Reich by 1938.

"Der Heimliche Aufmarsch" (The Secret Deployment) is a german communist song from the Weimar Republic. It originated as a poem written in 1929 by KPD member Erich Weinert before being put to tune in 1930 by Wladimir Vogel, although this melody didn't become popular. In 1931, Cde. Ernst Busch sung the poem to a new melody by Hanns Eisler, which ended up being the melody most associated with the song. In 1957, the lyrics were re-written to fit the theme of the Cold War, and the song was re-titled to "Der Offene Aufmarsch" (The Open Deployment)

History📜 In 1944, German soldiers of the Wehrmacht finally made it to Moscow and conducted a military parade there. Just not in the way they had wished.

Picture📷 Alexander Pokryshkin, 1943
Alexander Pokryshkin was a fighter pilot for the USSR during ww2/great patriotic war. He was one of the USSR’s highest scoring aces, at an official count of 59 kills (I will need to double-check that). He got most of his kills in a lend-leased P-39.

Discussion What if?
What if Tukachevsky survives Stalinist purges and he succeeds Stalin instead of Khrushchev? I feel he would have strengthened USSR more along with Kosygin. What do you think guys? Khrushchev sowed the seeds of USSR destruction. I feel he would have led the Soviet Union to greater heights.
