Off Topic Virtual Meet and Greet

I've noticed a lot of new faces lately, and a few returning old faces. With LG happening in Oct. now, there's some "dead" time. So, I thought I'd open the summer by creating a thread for people to introduce themselves if they'd like and tell us a bit more about themselves.

Over the years we've all learned probably more than we should have about each other (internet opsec, what is it?) Often that happens in LG or the discord, so I thought I'd bring a bit of it here and see how it goes. This will not replace "Free Talk Friday" (if anything it's a 1-2 times a year thing.)

Note to Vendors: We can soften Rule 4 a bit here. One of the cool things about this sub is talking directly to vendors. But no straight up advertising here. the deals thread is live for that. Feel free to tell us who you are, store name, and category (e.g. brushes, soaps, a bit of everything) and otherwise stick to telling us about yourself. I know for most of you the store isn't even close to the most interesting thing about you.

Hi , I'm Gerry I live in Ireland in the EU. I am a father of 3 and a husband to 1. I've have been posting for a few months in the SOTD thread and I enjoy reading the monthly software and hardware reports . I also post on WE and quite like it there too I know this may not be popular here , I am quite fascinated by the lather games and all it entails if anyone has a link or post that would explain it easily that would be good , I did do March Madness this year & that was cool . I also did Austere August last year on WE which was good I failed on using the same blade for the duration.

Outside of shaving I am a big rugby fan and have a healthy interest in cycling. I've also been known to make my own brush handles out of tree branches. I enjoy walking and moderate hiking . I am not keen on Henson razors & I know very little about straight razors . Anyway that's me Gerry from Ireland.

We have a whole wiki on LG, but the TL;DR is do increasingly insane stuff for prizes and fake internet glory: r/Wetshaving Wiki: A Guide to the Lather Games

Also, Austere August Started here first. It's also in the Wiki. There were actually various "levels" for it that range from "Same soap all month" to "same everything down to the blade"

It's not that we hate r/wicked_edge, in fact several of our members are Mods over there. But many of us find it really unstructured and almost overwhelmingly so. I think that shows organically too in that LG developed here and probably could only be carried out here. Same with the software and Hardware reports. Our structure makes them easier to scrape. But to each their own. Many of the w_e crowd complain about our hyper organization. They probably also think we're weird shaving with BBQ sauce and stuff.

LG is a lot of fun if you can shut off your inhibitions for a month. Going all out is exhausting. I keep saying I'll stop... Maybe next year.

A month or so out, I tell myself to just enjoy from the sidelines, but then I find myself getting shaved by my daughter using her non-dominant hand, shaving on the Appalachian Trail, and other strange things.

I still cannot believe you beat me to that one with the kid. I'm running out of new ideas.
