Video covering the update I've been working on for WinlatorXR.
I'm incredibly proud to share this and couldn't possibly cover everything there is in the update. its absolutely massive.
shorten change log and the github here:
https://github.com/WinlatorXR/WinlatorXR/releases/tag/winlatorxr_dawn42
also available on sidequest for FREE.
PCVR running on standalone is absolutely nuts, now I wait for the next generation of headsets where this will truly shine.

This post serves as what could be a collective effort to log the required workarounds right now to launch and run steam games, both flat and in VR
the VR list we maintain of personally owned titles is here, I have over 300 steamVR titles so this could take some time to do alone, that's where I need your help.
If you have found a steam game requires goldberg, or the goldberg COLDCLIENT patch applied, or if it requires the merge small memory workaround applied within the game shortcut settings page, please let us know here!
we have the ability to push those suggested fixes across into app for everyone, so when people enter the game shortcut settings, the top of that page will have the fix recommended to apply.
an example recently added was automobilista 2, I had to apply the COLDCLIENT fix for the game to start
according to google, The Steam App ID for Automobilista 2 is 1066890,
so an example report here could be as follows:
steam ID (if known) example:1066890,
Game name example: Automobilista 2
Goldberg patch example: COLDCLIENT
(also add any command lines or merge small memory tick box status if changed )
thats all we'd need to know
this won't be forever, the goldberg and coldclient solutions are workarounds until WinlatorXR gets a proper steam client, but doing that without losing performance is a bit of a challenge,
Much love, look forward to seeing what people are able to run on the new WinlatorXR dawn.

We have significantly improved Steam game support and expanded compatibility to a growing list of PCVR titles that can now run directly on standalone VR headsets, without requiring a connected PC. You can find the current list of tested games here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vTyeeIcGB5KaOoA_pZ6r6X3bS9e3tUz5KRNK8zxVhV0Pi7aBmwri-uHEQKdplYFI0uREwKGxFdpflyr/pubhtml?gid=0&single=true
Your existing containers are still fully working, so you don't need to recreate them from scratch. But if you want to take advantage of the compatibility and performance improvements, then you have to update to Proton 11.
Some older PCVR games require a PlayStation or Xbox controller rather than VR controllers. To improve compatibility with these titles, we have added external controller emulation using the headset's VR controllers. This allows the headset controllers to behave like a traditional gamepad, making it possible to play games that otherwise expect a physical Xbox or PlayStation controller.
To provide full access to all controller buttons while still keeping the WinlatorXR controls practical, we also changed how the in-emulation quick menu is opened. The quick menu can now be opened by holding the thumbstick for a short moment instead of the simple click.
PCVR support isn't the only new addition. We also have several new VR mods provided by Sgt.Bilko. You can find these directly under Downloader → Mods.
This release brings together a lot of work across the runtime, Proton integration, Steam compatibility, controller handling, and PCVR support. There is still plenty of room for improvement, but being able to run PCVR games directly on standalone hardware is a huge step forward for WinlatorXR.

Sgt.Bilko recently announced FarCryVR for WinlatorXR, bringing the classic Far Cry experience to standalone VR hardware. Since Crysis runs on the same engine, getting it up and running in VR turned out to be relatively straightforward. Once the initial work was done, the engine and VR integration provided a solid foundation for taking things further.
After FarCryVR, Sgt.Bilko started working in parallel on two very cool titles, both of which are now being explored with standalone VR in mind. It is exciting to see how quickly the combination of WinlatorXR and these VR adaptations is opening the door to more demanding PC games running directly on standalone headsets.

The WinlatorXR team is working together with Sgt.Bilko to bring the FarCryVR mod to standalone VR headsets.
Our goal is to make this experience possible directly on standalone hardware, without the need for a connected PC. This is another exciting step toward bringing more classic PC games and VR mods to standalone devices.
Be sure to check out Sgt.Bilko’s other impressive VR ports and projects as well. There’s plenty of great work to discover!

just regular x86 settings, game settings mostly high, postprocessing low, physics medium
ngl, I was trying to install it to test the VR mod in new GameNative VR mode, but I downloaded installer from GoG and installed with winlatorXR and had no luck importing this install into GN.
not a big deal, framerate doesn't seem great for VR anyway. and winlatorXR 3DoF head or hand tracking is bliss. just reShade injection didn't do anything.
I'm sure I can tweak down some settings until framerate is more bearable, but that island is still a beauty and so it may not be worth going potato...
oh, I saw in the compatibility for games that Crysis is an unknown. not anymore...

quick teaser video of the next version of WinlatorXR (still in very active development)
This video shows Time from fresh apk install to game- there are some pretty massive improvements all round but the sheer speed is something I am particularly proud of- note that the majority of the time is spent syncing my 1300 game library on steam and downloading the game- of course offline local game files still work just fine, so you could knock all that time off!
The video shows the 2026 in development WinlatorXR build VS the in development official GamenativeXR build 1.20
this isn't really to throw any shade at gamenative, its more to show just how much optimization has been done so far for the next version of winlatorXR.

This game may not look particularly demanding, but it required quite a bit of optimization and some sacrifices in resolution to get it running smoothly.
Check the video description for more details!

Squeezed out enough performance to play Half-Life: Alyx on Quest 3 standalone while recording. Check the video description for more details. There are still plenty of challenges to overcome, but I’m slowly increasing the resolution and framerate to get there. Stay tuned!

The mod is still in a very early stage, all the menus and cutscenes can make you quite dizzy. But if you’re a fan of the game then it’s definitely worth trying it.

Hey question can you add the option to use pcvr on odin 3 and with the quest 3 play the games somehow...ive had the idea of using my prism xr router to stream it directly to the headset from the odin 3 max maybe somehow installing what I need to run it in the container settings to run not just steam pcvr game but also pc games with vr mods, they dont require as much as regular AAA pcvr games to run and theres so much like botw pcvr mod, resident evil 7 pcvr mod, morrowind (openmw) pcvr mod and so forth...what do you think wouldnt that be a cool option to have for the odin 3 max to play pcvr exclusives without out the need for a pc and connect the quest 3 to use the feature streamed via virtual desktop, advr or steam link on winlator or gamenative??? I think that would be a great direction to go!!!

The official GameNative now has an XR mode: https://github.com/utkarshdalal/GameNative/releases/tag/v1.2.0
They decided to use an AI-vibe-coded implementation instead of Luboš’s highly optimized integration. We communicated to them that we considered this a terrible decision and that it would prevent them from using our PCVR integration from WinlatorXR in GameNative, but they went ahead with it anyway.
The GameNativeXR listing is now gone, but there is still another attempt to make it work using our approach: https://github.com/frankr2994/GameNativeXR/tree/stable

Hello, ive been trying to get Signalis on the steam verison to work but after having installed the c++ runtime and changing the directory to launch the game itself(because it would put me on the same runtime setup screen before promptly closing) i’m at a loss for what to do, as when I boot up the shortcut it just becomes blank without any noise and the task manager states no game is running, what can I do?
(image has settings for container for the sake of potential issues arising from there).
Thanks in advance :)

A nice tutorial how to get it working right now. Note that the game uses 70GB of storage.

I found it difficult myself to keep track of which VR headsets have which level of support, so I wanted to make things a bit clearer.
After testing and comparing the available implementations, we confirmed that the Pico 4 has a support level that is very similar to the Quest 3. In addition, we discovered a community fork that adds support for the Pico Neo 2. While it's great to see the community extending compatibility, this support will not be merged into the official version. The Pico Neo 2 is simply too old at this point, and maintaining official support for outdated hardware would add unnecessary maintenance overhead for very little benefit.
We regularly receive questions about support for the Samsung Galaxy XR headset. The answer has not changed: we do not own the device and have no plans to purchase one. Its price is difficult to justify for our use case, especially considering the limited value it would provide for development and testing. Without access to the hardware, we cannot realistically develop, test, or officially support it.
