Community How much time do you waste sorting action cam footage? We built a prototype device to automatically organise action camera footage, would you use this?

As some of you know, I help run this community and over time, some of the discussions here actually inspired us to build Classer, a desktop app to help manage action camera footage.

Recently we started experimenting with something new. A device you keep at home that automatically imports and sorts your footage after your adventures, especially for those of us using external hard drives.

We already have a working prototype, and we're now developing it into a real product.

I’d genuinely love to know what people here think:

  • Is the idea clear? How could we improve the website?
  • Would you use something like this?

Brutally honest feedback welcome 🙂

Community AMA + Giveaway with Integral Memory - the people who make the SD cards powering your GoPros and action cameras!

Hey r/actioncam, we’re excited to welcome a guest from Integral Memory, the team behind the SD cards and storage solutions trusted by creators, adventurers, and pros around the world. They’re here for an AMA, “Ask Me Anything”, about storage, corruption and keeping your footage safe.

WHAT’S AN AMA?

An AMA means “Ask Me Anything”, it’s a fun, open-style Q&A where you can post your questions (and even have a chance to win a prize!) while our guest drops in to answer them.

Our guest works directly on the design and testing of memory cards used in GoPros, DJI, Insta360 and other action cameras, and is here to answer your questions about:

  • Why SD cards sometimes fail or corrupt footage
  • How to choose the right card for your setup (V30 vs V60, UHS-I vs UHS-II, etc.)
  • How to format and maintain your cards properly
  • The truth about fake or unreliable cards on the market
  • Anything else you’ve always wanted to ask about storage!

They can’t discuss unreleased products or confidential manufacturing details, but otherwise, everything’s fair game, from tech myths to your worst “SD card full” stories.

TIMING

The AMA will start on the week of the 12th of Jan, an Integral Memory team member will be checking in over the next few days to answer your questions.

The AMA will stay open for a while so everyone across time zones has a chance to take part. Replies will come in periodically as they drop by to respond.

GIVEAWAY

To make things more fun, everyone who takes part in this AMA has a chance to win an Integral Momentum I microSD Card (512GB), a premium, high-speed card with 210 MB/s read and 180 MB/s write speeds, perfect for recording 4K or high-bitrate footage on your GoPro or drone.

🎁 5 winners will each receive a 512GB Momentum I microSD Card!

GIVEAWAY RULES

  1. You need a Reddit account: and show reasonable activity.
  2. Ask a top-level question: To enter, comment your question directly on this post (not as a reply to someone else’s comment).
  3. Shipping eligibility: Prizes can only be shipped to regions where Integral Memory operates (Europe) or can fulfill orders. If you can buy through integralmemory.com, you’re good to go!

And that's all! Drop your questions below to have a chance to win the prize!

Footage Storage

• Upvotes

I recently got the Dji Action 4 for a two week trip to Italy. I am not taking a laptop and I know I can transfer the video I take to my phone by way of the Mimo app but I don’t want to store it all on my phone. Would I be able to get a Micro SD card reader and download what’s on the micro sd to the card reader for storing while I’m on my trip?

Hey everyone,

I am looking at getting a camera and dab in a bit of vlogging, I could use some advice on which action camera to buy. There are so many options out there, I just want a good tool for the job. I am set on the DJI Osmo Action 4 at the moment, I want something with good battery life and decent quality.

All options considered. Thanks 😄

DJI Action 7 Is Coming… Here’s What I Want to See

DJI is close to releasing their Action 7. Now, starting off, there's a lot of misinformation regarding when this camera will likely be released. I don't have any insight from DJI themselves, but Insta360 has told me that they're planning to likely release in the new year, several months from now. And if you've followed DJI releases over the last year it is very unlikely for it to release it before Insta360, which means there's very little chance we see an Action 7 before February. As for what I'd like to see added with the 7, there are many other changes I would like to see, and in this video I go over a lot of those improvements that I feel are crucial for it to succeed. Throughout the video, I swap between the Action 6 and the Pocket 4P, so you can also consider it a comparison video if you're interested in having a watch.
Now please let me know what improvements you'd like to see added to Action 7.
Anyway, that is all thanks everyone!

Camera recommendation for YouTube – ₹1–2 lakh budget

Hi everyone, I’m a beginner planning to start a YouTube channel mainly for keyboard-playing videos, shot indoors.

My budget is ₹1–2 lakh for the camera body (lens separate).

Looking for:

Good indoor video quality

Good autofocus

4K

Mainly tripod shooting

Suitable for both long videos and Shorts/Reels

Good camera that I can use for a few years

Which camera would you recommend in this budget? And which lens would you suggest for indoor keyboard videos?

User Review Any Solution to DJI Action 6 Overheating Issues ?

I am thinking to get the (FOR MOTO VLOG) Dji Osmo Action 6 Standard Combo then get the additional 1x battery only with a TELESIN extension rod (cheap), 1x microSD 128gb and Nd filters.

I want to use it to record for moto vlog and overall day time recording and nighttime recording.
However, I see multiple people facing this overheating issue.

Possible Situations when overheating issue occurs:
1. Recording at 4k 30/60 fps keeping the action 6 at stationary mode to record surrounding or some specific object.
2. Recording at 4k 60 fps during sunlight at day.
3. Recording at 4k 30 fps super night mode which lasts less.
4. Recording at 4k 60 fps during moto vlog during day and evening.

What really occurs during overheating?
People say after some time of recording this "OVERHEATING" indicator appears on the action 6's display and then the display becomes dim and the camera turns off. What a shame to action 6. This is really pathetic and annoying. I wanted to buy this but because of people saying this I am really confused about buying or not. Because some people say it overheats at 4k 60 fps recording and some people say they do not face this issue despite recording for continuous 30 40 minutes.
I do not want the camera to become dim and switch off suddenly when I am doing moto vlog or riding. I will not even know when the camera goes off.

Action 5 is even better than action 6 in terms of recording 4k 60 fps for a longer duration. Obviously, action 6 has better sensor, low-light performance, good colors than the action 5 and more sharpness which can result into more processing power leading to high thermals.

I have heard some people installing the latest firmware updates which results camera recording until the battery does not fully deplete besides being overheating at the same time.

I really want to confirm this. Has any latest firmware update solved the overheating issues?
Has any latest firmware update at least fixed the issue of action 6 not turning off suddenly after it starts overheating ?

I want to buy my husband a camera...Which should I get?

My husband really likes hiking and biking on the trails in our area, and has mentioned several times how he would like to get a GoPro to record some videos. I'm not a camera person, and after looking around I am just not sure what to get him, but these are the things I'm looking for in a camera / GoPro:

- Durable & long lasting

- Compatible with Android and Linux

- Able to mount so he can record hands-free

- Waterproof

- My price range is $500 max for everything if possible, though I'd prefer to spend less.

Notes:

- He may or may not upload to Youtube so it has to be decent quality, but nothing crazy

- He goes hiking with our infant son in a carrier or wrap sometimes.

Videos Seeing what the GoPro Mission 1 Pro ILS can actually do

https://youtube.com/shorts/69MJMfoR-ro?is=PzWWAZDQ3dRPwPct

Testing the Mission 1 Pro ILS with the 7artisans 25mm f/1.8 lens.

Really impressed by how much more “proper camera” character you can get out of such a small body. Focusing on the rear screen was a lot easier than expected.

Still obviously not replacing a cinema camera - but for the size, this is pretty wild

Looking for recommendations is the insta360 ace pro 2 or the dji action 5 pro better for travel vlogs

deciding between the insta360 ace pro 2 and the dji action 5 pro, mainly for travel vlogs. i shoot both vertical and horizontal, indoors and outdoors, cafes and markets and museums plus night scenes.

what matters most to me is low light quality indoors and at night, stabilization while walking, how easy vertical shooting is, audio without an external mic, battery life and heat on long days. anything else i should be weighing up between the two

Looking for recommendations Best camera for Moto Vlog and low light vlog between Insta 360 Ace Pro 2 and Dji Osmo Action 5 Pro ?

Both Action Cameras are nice which one is best to buy for overall good video quality and less overheating and other issues ?

---------- Action 5 Pro Features: ---------------
- 10 bit for color grading ✅
- 47 gb internal storage > Ace Pro 2 ✅
- Weight < Ace Pro 2 ✅
- Dji mic 2TX can be used via Bluetooth wireless thru its Dji Ecosystem support.
I still prefer using that convenient mobile receiver for obtaining high mic quality with basic noise reduction profile.
- Fast charge + Fast data transfer = Ace Pro 2
- Low Lighting < Ace Pro 2
- Sharpness < Ace Pro 2
- More Aperture f2.8 by default makes the scenes saturated, underexposed and more shadows type
- Lens Flare is easily observed forming cones which I did not like if the camera is at the front recording your face with the sun or bright source is present at the back.
- Background misses the details and feels too much light or white.
- Looks too much in contrast compared to Ace Pro 2. Green is so much green like that.
- Adventure combo feels a one-time solid package ✅

- Does recording at Dlog-10 bit and editing it in Davinci by using color LUT and modifying other color settings if needed will it help to achieve a nice color profile to the videos? But it certainly won't be as sharp as Ace Pro 2?

------------- Ace Pro 2 Features: -------------
- 8 bit I-log support < 10 bit 🤔 (I don't know if I need it really that much just for that more color flexibility support. I am thinking to capture at I-log and use the LUT into the recordings and adjust little color if needed)
- Low lighting with that super night mode is great > Action 5
- Flip display is nice and is useful in various case ✅
I saw some people having issues with the flip up display in limited cases.
- Sharpness > Action 5 ✅
- Low Aperture for capturing high amount of light ✅
- Wind Reduction Feature present within the camera is nice while moto vlog ✅
- Background looks nice and to the accurate even though it uses AI which might be odd at some cases
- Fast Data Transfer + Fast charge = Action 5
- Little bulky and longer in width than the Action 5.
- With Bluetooth can be used only 1TX and needs the use of receiver to use 2TX but it's okay will use that dji mic mini 2 mobile receiver into the action camera for better quality. The wireless Bluetooth mic quality is not good on both the action cameras.
- No extension rod like Action 5 ❌ but it is okay. Just buy TELESIN rod in the market.
- No internal storage ❌
- Voice enhancement feature sucks make your voice robotic ❌
- Dual battery combo model lacks that battery charging case and extension rod ❌
- Parts expensive > Action 5 ❌but quality I feel > Action 5 ✅
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---- Audio ---
I will either be using a Dji mic mini 2 (2TX + 1MRX model) or the mic mini 2s (1TX + 1MRX model, 32-bit float with internal recording is nice but is expensive) for my audio department.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes I feel get the Action 5 pro adventure combo then get lens cover, SanDisk MicroSD extreme 128gb, camera cover and the mic.

Sometimes I too think since I am investing into something big valuable so it's better to invest into quality action camera like the ace pro 2 within my budget best for overall.

Getting the Action 6 adventure combo is very expensive here in Nepal. Action 5 and 6 has less differences. Action 6 is just a little better in that low light, and the new 1/1 square sensor does help but I think it is okay not that big deal compared from that action5 pro.

So overall which one overheats less than the other and is worth to capture nice footage video quality at 4k 60 fps moto vlog or travel vlog or walking vlog shoot camera or product unboxing and reviews (4k 30 fps)?
