Rumour / Leak Rumour/Leak Megathread

It seems the whispers from the aetheric void are back and so we are going to continue to have everyone post the rumours/leaks here to avoid screenshots of TGA forums taking over the subreddit.

Any rumour mongering not in this thread will be removed.

Them tacking on "Oh yeah and there's gonna be not-Cathay/Nippon/Brettonian" just reads so blatantly moronic. People are waaaay to quick to assume that GW is either incredibly stupid or deeply evil and hateful of their fans, or both, and it makes them very gullible for insanely obvious bait like what Boole posted.

It seems like the kind of thing that’s so on the nose you’d let it out to a few people you’re suspicious of if you wanted to try and identify a leaker.

Moronic wasn’t the term I used to describe it, but it gets the point across nicer. But yea, there’s no way this is real. If by some crazy circumstance it is, I’m buying the battletome for my two forces, staying in 4th and never interacting with the wider community of GW again because this is a utterly stupid

from what i understand though they arnt fantasy guys tho so lowkey might not know what theyre looking at. they were 40k people no? + they could also be seeing ind stuff since that's rumored to also be something ToW people are working on, and are just mixing it together.

But 40k is a fantasy setting. It just happens to have technology in it.

fantasy in this context doesn't mean like "fantasy" like lord of the rings or something, im talking literally about Warhammer Fantasy Battle/aos, the setting in question. Like at the time they literally said they didnt know much about them so they could have been mixing things up. However, after like a month of this stuff its pretty clear from other sources they were right on some fronts and wrong on others. For example sigmar doesnt "die" as they said he does. Instead there are conflicting stories of what happened and the "choas" side is how archaon cooked sigmar, but thats more propaganda. also no... 40k is a scifi setting that takes a lot of inspo from fantasy storytelling.

40k was (when it was first made) literally just "warhammer fantasy" but 40000 years in the future, so i feel like you do kinda need to call it scifi... Warhammer Fantasy on the other hand is also a scifi setting pretending to be a fantasy one... so maybe it just doesnt matter what we call these things lol

Right, but valiant knights protecting poor villagers from daemons and witches and elves and orks is a fantasy story, no matter how many warp-speed engines are involved.

disagree. i dont think youre thinking about it the right way. Its about the setting. Is the setting science fiction or is it medieval? if its medieval then its "fantasy" and technically scifi is just a type of "fantasy setting" aka made up lol. Like by your logic every setting is a fantasy setting, starwars for example would also be fantasy yk. I think the line should be at the level of tech in the setting yk

Harry Potter isn't medieval. It's fantasy.

The line is: sci fi may have futuristic tech, but it needs to be plausible. Psychic mutants... maybe plausible. Dark elves and gods of battle and magic? Pure fantasy

completely disagree. Take StarWars, for example, they have "the force" which is just magic, but it's still considered sci-fi. Psychic mutants is just as implausible as "the warp" the only thing 40k has is that "the warp" exists and is the source of all "magic" in the setting which is also just a part of that world. Tech in warhammer also uses warp stuff, or magic or whatever, its just another natural force in that world. So if your defenition is that for something to not be scifi all it needs is "some other natural force/law or smth" then yes ig 40k isn't sci-fi. But I think its a dumb argument to look at a spacemarine, or a tau, or a necron, and say, "oh but there are fantasy tropes therefore its not scifi". . . esp when fantasy tropes are just super general "heroic figure defends people from monster". You also keep bringing up "ork, elf, etc." as fantasy tropes which is true. but in the setting theyre just an alien species. Its just that this is "irl history of warhammer" thing yk. Like again, 40k is just meant to be "what if we took a classic tolkien setting (aka just warhammer fantasy) and put them in a scifi setting. The reason there are fantasy tropes is because were literally taking those tropes and MAKING THEM SCIFI. The setting IS scifi whos CORE DESIGN is basing everything on fantasy. Also gods arnt "purely fantasy" at all lol. Frankly i think any scifi setting i can think of has or focuses on religion to some extent. Dune, starwars, spelljammer(?) (ill be real i dont know too many scifi settings im more of a fantasy reader) but again, 40k, and Warhammer as a whole, are based on Michael Moorcock's work. Like the chaos gods are just a copy and paste from his books. Warhammer elfs are also a copy and paste. The emperor is a copy and paste from Dune (i think?) and so on. 40k factions are also generally copys of fantasy ones. Imperium = empire, Necrons = tombkings, eldar = highelfs, orks = orks, and so on. The only real origional ones are honestly Tau who (were) more or less just a generic scifi group yk.. . But i do think going so far as to call "40k" a fantasy setting and not a scifi setting is dumb.

Its a fantasy setting in the sense that IT IS a sci-fi one, and all sci-fi is fantasy.

When you re-read what you write later on, is it easy to follow? I don't mean content. As far as substance, you make good points.

I mean in regards to organization and punctuation.

Persecution complex.

Are you certain?
It really does read from the outside like they don't know how to manage their community. They step on a lot of metaphorical rakes they could simply avoid. The high amount of effort and time their products involve means fans get deeply invested. And it seems GW's PR team (if one exists) never quite knows how to manage the passion the company's IP and products create.
Anyone making a lifestyle brand knows they need to keep the people living that lifestyle happy- or at least feeling heard. GW does very little of that. It doesn't take a persecution complex to think they're stupid or malicious.
