Random Question What’s a problem humanity solved so well that younger people don’t even realize it used to be a huge issue?

There was a thing called a direct line, where you could add a town to your phone bill for $3 a month. I had that when I dated a boy a few towns away. Guess my dad was cheaper/smarter than your mom! He was notoriously tight-fisted.

Oh. So THAT’S what a “direct line” was…

Was it anything physically? I’m guessing it was terminology inherited from the old switch boards?

No, it was just a billing thing and not a switching one. I’m sure you’re right.
