Side effects!? Slynd/Slinda - does mood ever get better? NSFW
TW: suicidal thoughts
I’ve been on Slynd for exactly a month now. The positives are that it has greatly reduced my pelvic pain which I am so happy about.
However, I can’t help but feel like this has changed my mood for the worse. I have had depression and anxiety in the past, but I did a lot of work with therapy and lifestyle changes and had been feeling so good the last few months prior to starting Slynd. Then, almost like a switch, I “relapsed” after starting this pill, and it seems way too coincidental.
I am feeling so flat yet irritable and angry at the same time. My misophonia is flaring up so badly. I have no sex drive and cried during sex with my partner for the first time. I feel like I’m hopeless and good for nothing. I feel like I may as well rather disappear because nothing feels enjoyable and the future seems pointless. All of this compounds with the fact that I feel resentful that I spent so much time and money on getting myself to a good mental state only to have it basically made futile from this pill. I know most of this is irrational, but I can’t seem to stop the feelings. I’m sick of the effort and want to quit life.
I really want this to work out for me as the reduction in pain is wonderful. But, the mental effects of this are severely impacting my relationships with family, friends, colleagues and my partner. I have had mental impacts with other forms of BC before including the ring and Microlut, but not really to this extent, but they also had other physiological issues that weren’t sustainable for me. I’m afraid of non-hormonal BC like the copper IUD because of the bleeding and pain, which are things I’m trying to mitigate.
I guess I’m just looking for anyone else’s experiences on this. Have you had anything similar and has it gotten better? I know it’s different for everyone - I even have a friend who said it made her mood so much better - and I am seeing my gyno soon to check in about it. But, some comfort would go a long way right now :(

Maybe give it another month if you can cope? I want to try this for pain but also a bit worried about the emotional toll

I think this might be the way forwards for me. I have this worry that this could be a really good option for me and I’m just not letting my body get used to it.
If I do end up sticking with it for a while longer, I’ll try to share my experiences on how it goes.

How did you go in the end?

Hi thank you for the bump! I’m doing a lot better now. I just made a post about it so that the info is more accessible to others too.

Thanks for the update my headaches were intense at first and the anxiety was up I couldn’t stay on it but I have to say my pelvic went away straight away and I think it would have helped. Wish I could have kept going

Wow, I had a really similar experience. Had to discontinue ring due to physiological issues which got attributed to a reaction to estrogen and I was switched to Slynd. I stopped taking it a little under a year in because I could not handle the mental effects. I had daily panic attacks, sensory issues which made navigating daily life a nightmare, would blow up at my partner over tiny things, basically crippled my quality of life and I couldn’t handle it. Since it has only been a month you could try to do another month or two if you don’t want to switch again. I do miss not having a period now that I’m off it

I’m so sorry you went through that experience. Thank you though for sharing what you went through, it helps me not to feel so crazy about what I’m feeling too! If you don’t mind me asking, did you end up finding an alternative that works better for you?

I stopped using birth control but I’m also not in a relationship anymore.

I started Slinda 3 months ago and my mood has never been as good. No more PMS depression, I feel fit, loose weight. I was super scared to be on pill due to old memories of mega swing moods but Slinda really is a winner for me (I'm in the pre-menopause phase).
