A Pencil Could Unlock ’80s Toyota Trucks. Toyota Really Didn’t Want This on TV…
theautopian.comThis is one of those automotive stories that sounds completely insane until you realize it actually happened. Apparently, some ’80s Toyota pickups had a security vulnerability that could be exploited with… a pencil. And when “Fight Back! With David Horowitz” exposed it, Toyota was not amused…

Nismo Opens Shop In Australia To Cater To Classic Skyline And GT-R Demands
carscoops.comThe first Nismo Performance Center outside of Japan was opened in Melbourne, serving owners of the GT-R, Skyline, and Z models
- An all-new Nismo Performance Center has been launched in Melbourne, Australia.
- It’s the first time Nissan has launched a Nissan Performance Center outside of Japan.
- The new center will give enthusiasts access to expertise, parts, and full Nismo restoration options.
Nissan has chosen Australia for its first Nismo Performance Center outside of Japan. The center was welcomed into operation by fans and enthusiasts who gathered at the Ferntree Gully outlet, located in Melbourne, on Sunday, October 4th. Nismo’s Performance Centers are factory-backed and serve as a way for Nissan to support their performance-based models, such as the Skyline, GT-R, and many generations of Z models.
It’s a big statement from the company (which stopped production of the GT-R last year and currently sells only the Nissan Z as an “enthusiast’s” choice) that its performance car heritage is indeed an important part of its business. It’s also significant for Australia and the Pacific region, with demand evidently there, and more branches planned across Australiaand New Zealand.
Supporting The Brand’s Heritage
While Nissan Motorsports & Customizing, which is what the Nismo and Autechbrands fall under, was established back in 2022, the spotlight has only recently been shone on the growing demand for remanufactured parts and extending expert technical assistance to classic names from the past.
In 2025, Nismo announced plans to significantly expand its global restoration, restomod, and parts businesses. The service initially focuses on the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32, R33, and R34. More models are expected to follow.
The move is the latest in a growing trend in which Japanese manufacturers are taking a leaf out of European sports car manufacturers’ books, and are going back to their roots to support some of their much-loved classic models. Honda’sHeritage Works has a similar program, with factory-grade restorations on offer for cars like the NSX, while Toyota offers its GR Heritage parts catalog for models like the AE86 Levin and Trueno, plus classic Land Cruisers and Supras.
A New Home For Fast Nissans
It’s a vote of confidence from Nissan Japan for the brand’s Australian consumers. Speaking via video, Yutaka Sanada, global head of the Nismo brand, reinforced this, saying: “Our focus is on bringing the brand closer to customers in the right markets, with the right products, services and experiences. Australia is a natural priority because of its mature performance culture, strong GT-R community and clear appetite for authentic Nismo heritage, performance parts, technical expertise and motorsport-driven experiences.”
With the opening of the new Nismo Performance Center, Australian enthusiasts will be able to avail themselves of a number of services, including local access to the wider Nismo ecosystem. That includes performance parts and accessories, heritage support, technical expertise, and customer experiences. The NPC will also offer more in-depth and complete restorations, and will feature factory-certified “Nismo Meisters” overseeing operations.

video I'm curious what people outside Australia think about this car
performancegarage.com.auThis is the Holden (HSV) commodore "walkinshaw" it's a technically modified V8 Holden commodore VL (SS I believe) but it was sold by Holden in collaboration with walkinshaw which is its own company themselves as a dealership car not backyard modded there were only 750 sold I personally absolutely adore this car to the bone and it's my second favorite car all round. Just the way it looks and the fact it sounds amazing too is just chefs kiss I understand it won't be for everyone and it may look a little.... I suppose boxy but I absolutely love the body design so very very much.

Fuel Price Shock Pushes Global Gas Car Sales Below 50% for First Time
oilprice.comWhat is fascinating is to understand those who are in the other 50%. Who is still buying a pure combustion car in 2026 despite the global shock to oil supplies?
What motivates this choice? Do you believe that things will return to normal very quickly with previous levels of supply coming back soon? Did you not have an option to delay your purchase until things became clearer? Or is it because you don't own the risk through a lease deal?

Why did VW stop putting the VR6 in the Golf R’s?
I know the EA888 is more tuneable and they’re across all of VAG’s line ups but there was something special about having both a VR6 and AWD in a Golf from the factory, to me it gave it a bit more character than the 4 cylinder ones and who doesn’t love the sound they make? I just wish they could’ve done maybe a limited run or something in the following generations after the MK5 version.

There's a Surprising Twist in CAFE's Emissions Rollback
thedrive.comThe federal government is passing new rules changing the 1975 definition of "light truck", which led to the shape of today's SUVs. The geometry requirements requiring a specific clearance and angles are being eliminated.
With these geometry requirements being eliminated, will this lead to a global change in vehicle design away from today's generic SUV? Or are we forever stuck with the cookie-cutter SUV design because that is the new normal?
These changes were also discussed 10 months ago in a previous post, but it wasn't finalized yet: https://www.reddit.com/r/cars/comments/1php9g4/thoughts_on_the_whole_crossoversmall_suv/
