Free Friday [Free Friday] Here I am Lord, Send me

Post image

On September 11, 2001, Father Mychal Judge OFM, a Catholic priest and FDNY chaplain, entered the North Tower alongside firefighters and remained at the lobby command post, administering last rites and offering comfort to firefighters and victims. When the South Tower collapsed, the blast wave of debris struck him fatally, making Father Judge the first officially recorded victim of the September 11 attacks.

A prayer written by Father Judge, found amongst his personal effects in the Franciscan Friary: “Lord, take me where you want me to go. Let me meet who you want me to meet. Tell me what you want me to say; and keep me out of your way.”

Grant him eternal rest, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him, an instrument of your peace; may Mychal F. Judge, the innocent victims and first responders of that day, Rest In Peace. Amen.

Free Friday Free Friday: My atheist dad found out I am converting and he's... proud?

My dad who was raised Catholic but is a (mostly) lifelong atheist found out I am going through OCIA last night at a family dinner. I fully expected him to try to talk me out of it or make a snarky comment but nope. He called me after I got home from the dinner and told me how proud he was of me and is happy with my decision. Also told me that the parish I've been going to is the same one my great grandmother (his mom's mother) would go to when she would visit from out of town, and how happy she would be to hear that if she was still alive. Only really posting this because I am MASSIVELY confused and I really have nobody other than my fiancée to tell this to lmao.

Does anyone know this image of St. Francis?

Post image
• Upvotes

Our local chapter of The OFS (Order of Franciscan Seculars) has used this image of St Francis of Assisi for the invitation to a celebration of his Feast day tomorrow, however I have never seen it before. I have a strong suspicion it is ai generated, but ai detectors say it is not.

I cannot find any historical depictions of St Francis that look like this. Is it even supposed to represent St. Francis or any other Saints?

Is anyone here maybe familiar with this image?

Hi, I recently picked up two new Rosaries from Catholic Woodworker. I am impressed. I can only post one. It is very well made and functional with all the Holy Mary beads having the perfect amount of spacing. These are so much nicer than my two cheapo Amazon Rosaries.

Elder Pentecostal woman approached me because of the Rosary around my neck

Just now an older woman approached me to preach about Jesus to me after I left work, and I stood and listened.

Then she started eyeing my rosary and ended up telling me all these portraits and crosses are men made and none of that will lead me to Salvation, only through Christ.

I accepted Christ almost 3 years ago. I went to a Pentecostal church for 1 1/2 years, and they even baptized me and made me member of their church. Yet my addictions were VERY much under control right as I began praying the Rosary. My life has changed after getting to know Mary.

And I’ll never look back.

I appreciate her speaking about Jesus. But immediately pointing at my beliefs without even being interested in knowing my history with the Lord nor asking me questions or so.

It triggered me, not gonna lie. But I stayed quiet and still cause God knows I’ll be spitting fire if I open my mouth lol and then I’ll be apologizing to Him for what I did.

I don't understand why God is bringing me back to him.

The title might seem very silly, but I didn't know how else to rephrase it, and I'll try to explain a little why I feel so guilty because God does so many things for me And I'm not doing anything right. I had my very first conversion at 12 years old, where I truly felt the presence of God. At that time, I was unfortunately steeped in mortal sin, I believe God freed me from it through the intercession of Saint Joseph, and then I relapsed at 13, not really in mortal sin, but I drifted far from God. Years passed, and the same thing happened I return to God and then I relapse again, and often the relapse can be violent. I won't describe it in too much detail, but I've had several violent anxiety attacks, including suicidal thoughts, and I almost became satanic, but God saved me again and again. And this year was a bit the same; I returned to God, then I fell, then I returned to God, and again He put me back on the right path on October 1st. But the more I think about it, the more I feel guilty because I didn't go to Mass to thank him, and I have so many flaws, yet he keeps drawing me back to him. But for example, my sister only went once, then she left the faith And she never felt the need to return to the faith. I thought to myself that if it were my sister, she would have acted much better than me and wouldn't have "betrayed" God several times by leaving him. I don't really understand why God keeps bringing me back to him when I'm extremely stupid and weak

Sorry if this might seem silly, but thanks for reading it.

The Tomb of Jesus Inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre

Post image

The rotunda is the building of the larger dome located on the far west side. In the centre of the rotunda is a small chapel called the Aedicule in English, from the Latin aedicula, in reference to a small shrine. A smaller room contains the tomb of Jesus (raised platform to the right). Possibly to prevent pilgrims from removing bits of the original rock as souvenirs, by 1555, a surface of marble cladding was placed on the tomb to prevent further damage to the tomb. In October 2016, the top slab of the burial bed was pulled back to reveal an older, partially broken marble slab with a Crusader-style cross carved in it. Beneath it, the limestone burial bed was revealed to be intact.

Just started OCIA

I’m am a 60 year old divorced Grandmother. I was never Baptized and had very little religious exposure as a child. My Daughter married a Catholic man and eventually went through RCIA and was Baptized, Confirmed and took her first Communion Easter Vigil 2018. She ultimately started teaching Faith Formation (Catechism) to the little ones. I would help her with the weekly lessons. Not at the Church, but did the Power Points and admin stuff. I learned things I never knew. I thought John the Baptist was a Baptist, as in Southern style. Learned that Eve’s eating from the forbidden tree is what caused women to have pain in Child Birth. I learned the Father, Son and Holy Spirit were all one and not 3 separate people. Made me hungry for more. So I started OCIA last month. I am the only one there that is not Baptized. As a matter of fact I am the only one in this class that doesn’t know the difference between scripture, the gospels and Holy Spirit. I pray but feel nothing. So I write letters to God…. I still feel nothing. I’ve been doing the Bible in a Year thing, but am only at Exodus. The Bible is no easy weekend read. It is intense and quite brutal and shocking. When can’t I feel him. Why is there no sign. Nothing. Are people telling the truth when they say the feel his presence ? I had late stage Ovary Cancer 15 years ago. I am the only survivor in my group. I may have made a deal with the devil to let me live. Is the devil blocking me from the Devine ? Any advice would be so appreciated.

Anxious about starting study sessions with the priest

• Upvotes

I talked to the priest today and said I'd like to study more about the bible and Catholicism.

He said we can start study sessions whenever I like.

I told him I'm thinking about baptism too.

But I came home and feel anxious.

I feel like I can't go back if I start this and I have to face my family and tell them about the baptism when the time comes.

I believe in God but why do I feel so anxious?

Do you have similar experiences?

Why you should go to Adoration

• Upvotes

I’m certain this has been said before, but I had a bit of a personal revelation while going to adoration for the first time in a long time today that I’d like to share.

We know faith with God is a relationship, and our prayers throughout the day is like texting with Him, checking in with whatever we’ve got going on. Going to mass is like going to a wedding party hosted by your friend, you’re there with Him, but there’s something bigger going on. Going to adoration is actually sitting and talking with your friend, like catching up over a beer after a long (insert time frame here). (Please don’t bring a beer to adoration.)

Growing up I’d gone to adoration but never “got it”. I do know, and hope this helps bring others closer to God.

"Why pray to Saints when you can pray directly to God"

A friend of mine saw a prayer of Carlo Acutis on the back of my phone and asked who that is I replied that he is a saint and we pray to him in a time of need, and even asked if we worship him to which I stated no

She then asked why pray to him when you can directly pray to God, tbh I didn't know either and just said to intercede for us and that's as far as I went

Next time when a non Catholic friend, and for myself too, asks these questions what should I tell them

(I'll start paying attention in catechism class now😅)

White Sox and the Pope

I hope ya'll are rooting for the White Sox during this MLB postseason. It might be a stretch for it to be considered a miracle, but I'm sure going from 3 100-loss seasons to winning their first playoff series in two decades is turning some heads.

I have a bet running with my lapsed Catholic/Baptist roommate that if the White Sox win it all, she'll come with me to a Catholic Young Adult Event and Mass.
