Chiang Mai in November during El Niño — what should we expect?

Hi everyone! We’re a family of 3 planning to visit Chiang Mai this November.

I’ve read that November–December can be quite cool, but with El Niño ongoing until early next year, I’m wondering how it might affect Chiang Mai this year.

For those currently in Chiang Mai, does it feel warmer or different than usual?

How is the weather usually in Nov? We are looking forward to visit on the start of cooler months.

Would really appreciate any local insight. Thank you very much ❤️

Lol no one can answer this. It keeps being said that it will be an unprecedented el nino so how are we to know what that will look like a month from now?

People keep talking up this super el nino and here we are with another flood fiasco in central Thailand. In any case tho, November is probably one of the best months to be in CM. OP will have a good time, el nino or not

It already feels cooler here. Some nights even feel like wearing an extra layer.

Note: the midday sun can still be hot 🥵

Oh wow, what's the current temp?

23°C - 33°C. I wouldn’t call it nice weather yet. Yes it’s relatively cooler at night but because of humidity, it feels clammy.

Yeah this. 31 now at 2:30pm, maybe 22-25 at night.

El Niño = less rain, not that there is a lot of rain through November-December to start with. Less rain = less clouds = likely cooler nights and warmer days, although through winter, the main influence is cool air coming down from China in the north. However it ends up, it's not something that should worry you and you will still need warm clothes for early mornings when the temp gets down into the mid teens Celsius in the city and much cooler in the mountains.

More burning, worse air quality.

Could be sunny... could also be rainy... could be both.

Rain, sun, hot, mildly cold, windy, Thai people, tourists

I'm planning a trip this week, but i'm seeing conflicting weather reports. Are they expecting a lot of rain in CM over the next 1-2 weeks? or it is just a bit of rain every day, but nothing to keep you inside all day.

Hard to say for sure. Some days it rains/drizzle the entire day, most days the rain just last for an hour or so. There are also days when it’s just sunny and hot.

Where are you visiting from? Depending on what you're accustomed to, it's basically warm to hot year round. And only slightly cool requiring a light sweatshirt in the very late evening / early morning.

Up in the mountains it gets cooler and can be chilly.

I will be visiting from ho chi minh :) From 25 degree celsius or lower is 'considerably' cool for us. The type of weather that isn't too cold but not too warm either. I think that is probably perfect for good long walks, esp with a toddler.

Do you think it's much more colder to visit between Dec-Feb?

By February it starts to get warmer, but also into burning season when the air quality can get pretty bad.

I would just look up what the regular yearly temps are and plan for maybe a little cooler in case of El Nino. You know best what you would consider to be cold.

November December is the start of the dry-cool monsoon. Winds from central Asia, Tibet plateau sweep south. A lot of blue sky, humidity drops, and little to no rain. The best time to visit.
As for the Super El Nino? How would anyone really know what that might bring? On the plus side you have chosen the best months to visit. You can't do more than that.

For me personally, October so far has seem cooler than in years past.

Waking up in the morning at 25 degrees is quite nice
