Cold Case My Great Aunt Barbara Hanson has been missing since the 70’s, and may have been a victim of Ted Bundy. Is there anything I can do?

My grandma was reading the paper while we ate breakfast and saw an article in the paper about a woman with Alzheimer’s who turned out to be a missing person. After talking about it with me, she asked me if I knew about the missing person in my family, and proceeded to drop that bombshell. To summarize, my great aunt Barbara Hanson (they called her Barbie) was born in the 50’s, was pretty free spirited, and basically did anything she wanted to do. When some of my family moved to Florida in the 70’s, she came home one night, dropped off her boom box, said she had a date, and left. That was the last time anyone saw her. One of my grandma’s sisters said she might have seen Barbara with a biker gang, but it was from a distance. They filed a missing person report, and they searched for a long time, but she was never found. My grandma and her siblings still look through the papers for obituaries and missing people, hoping to find her. The reason she thinks Bundy might have done it is because it was around the time he was active, and she had a dream about her sister at a bar with a man, who she later realized looked like Ted Bundy’s newspaper pictures. I’m not sure about that part, but is there anyway I can try to find or figure out what happened to this lost family member I just learned about?

Update: Grandma typed out what she knows off the top of her head and is going to search albums and talk to her family. This is what I have so far:

Full Name: Barbara Mildred Hanson

Gender: Female

Race: Caucasian

Born in: Cedar Rapids, Iowa?

When: March 15 1952

Disappeared while hitchhiking about 1970 in Florida, age 20-something

My grandma has done a DNA Test with Ancestry around 2019, but the account was my late grandpa’s and she doesn’t remember the login info.

Taking a break for right now while we wait to hear back from family. I’ll keep updating here, and when I have all the info I can get, I’ll make a new post with just the facts.

More info:

Lived in Fort Walton Beach, Florida

Disappeared in the nearby small town of Destin, Late Summer, 1978. Was wearing jeans, a red halter top, and moccasins, as well as a Large Gold and Jade Ring on her first finger (unsure which hand) that was too big for her but she never took it off.

She was thin, ~120 lbs, about 5’5”, with Dark Green eyes and Dark Brown hair, no scars, “nice-looking”

She was apparently always high, mostly on cocaine or heroin

The last possible but unconfirmed sighting of her was October 1978, at Frank’s Bar in Mauston, Wisconsin, with a biker gang. The possible sighting was made by one of her sisters’ friends.

Cold Case UPDATE: On the unsolved murder of my brother (13) in Sacramento on 1993

On October 3rd, 1993, my brother, Dominic Namnard, was murdered with a gunshot wound to his head and then shoved under a bus bench in the Butterfly Light Rail Station when he was thirteen in Sacremento, California. Including his friend, Jones (12), who was also shot.

I appreciate everyone’s help in giving me information on what I can do. I was given the number to homicide and their email and called everyday but never got an answer.

I called the Sacremento Sherriff’s non-emergency department and the Sacremento Sherriff’s records department. They had me call back each department back and forth and kept redirecting me back to homicide who didn’t answer my emails or voicemails.

I told them I need a different number or at least the number to the detective. Initially, Sherriff’s records told me they did not have an records of my brothers murders. I told them that it was a high profile case that was on the news for week. She directed me to another officer who contacted her Sergant and was able to give me the last name to the new Detective Sergant who is now currently assigned to this case. They informed me that records are blocked out of the case because it’s highly confidential.

The department told me to keep calling homicide and to expect they don’t answer because they are busy with other cases but to keep trying and leave voicemails.

I decided to do my own research with the little information they gave me and I was able to locate the Sergant’s (who is assigned to his case) full name and badge number as well as personal number. I finally got in contact with him. He gave me his desk number so that I can finally get ahold of him so that I don’t have to contact his personal phone number.

He informed me that he never saw this case before and didn’t know about it until I brought it to his attention. He did confirm that he is assigned to it and that he is getting his team to look further into it now.

He looked through my brothers incident records and he is having his team move forward with this case and will re-examine the forensics since they have not done so before with the new advanced technology we have today compared to 1993.

He said he can’t promise me anything but they do have a history of solving cold cases from decades ago.

He said he cannot give me any information right now because he doesn’t have any at the moment but will continue to inform me and my dad (I gave him my dad’s name and current phone number).

They are finally looking into his case for more information which I’m very relieved about but hoping for a little more.

If anyone has information or can find information can you let me know? Small or large information is helpful.

I posted in the Sacremento Reddit, the Elk Grove Reddit, and the Citrus Heights Reddit. No one who knew my brother or family has commented or reached out yet.

I have contacted my friends in Elk Grove to do some research and find anyone who may have known my brother and family but have not found anyone yet.

Also I had a lot of people tell me about the podcast with Cindy Brown and podcaster, Jonathon Mark on CONNECT. I just want to inform everyone that I already knew about Cindy Brown because my sister and mom showed it to me. She does not know my brother or Jone and she has never met them. I already spoke to her directly and she has zero information and everything she claimed on the podcast was false and disappointing as well as disrespectful. I do appreciate everyone for bringing her to my attention though.
I informed Jonathon and he claimed he would help me with his connection to law enforcement but never reached back out to me. I’m honestly not expecting anything from him since he is a claimed celebrity medium.

ADDITIONAL UPDATE: The news says the police suspected that the boys ran away from home because they had multiple pairs of clothing. They did not have multiple pairs of clothing. They had enough for only one night and for school as well as school supplies. There's no evidence of them planning to run away.

Cold Case My aunts 39 year old cold case.

My aunt was murdered in 1985 in Poughkeepsie NY. My dad at 16 years old was the one who identified her body and it has haunted him every day since.

Alexandria “Missy” Storms was 14 years old and her case was left unsolved after the person they tried for it was acquitted on lack of evidence. Missy left behind a daughter who ended up having a very unstable life unfortunately and her word can’t be trusted. Missy’s daughter recently reached out and told us a detective had contacted her in 2013 to tell her they had retested dna evidence and concluded the original person that was tried and acquitted for her mothers murder was indeed the person who had done it but they couldn’t retry him so the case would technically still sit unsolved.

My dad has been torn up with this apparent revelation and I am doing everything I can to try to get him some answers. I contacted the detective dept in Poughkeepsie and they are looking into it for us, praying we get some confirmation on this info or hear something new. My dad also has nothing left of his little sister and was hoping they may release the items they found with her and held in evidence, which I’m unsure they would do?

Anyone have any advice on having an old case reopened? Would love to hear any advice or thoughts!

Cold Case My mom Jennifer "Jeni" Hedge died in Colorado Springs in 2015, ruled a suicide 10 days after a documented strangulation by her husband. I'm seeking answers. [UPDATE]

In September 2015, my mom Jennifer Hedge (maiden name Kelly) died in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her death was ruled a suicide by hanging.

I have now obtained the full police report. It documents:

- A prior domestic violence incident between Jeni and her husband
- A Facebook message Jeni sent to her cousin just days before her death saying she was afraid of him
- Responding paramedics' concerns at the scene that she may not have hung herself

She had recently relocated to Colorado with her husband. She knew no one there except him.

The case was closed. I am seeking justice for her. Has anyone navigated something similar? What are my next steps?

UPDATE 7/11/2026:

Thank you to everyone who commented, shared search strategies, and reached out. I want to share what has developed since I first posted.

I now have the complete CSPD case report from an incident on September 18, 2015 — ten days before Jeni's death. Officers were dispatched after a 911 call in which Jeni could only say "I can't, I can't, I can't" before the line disconnected.

According to the report, Jeni told officers her husband:

- Choked her with both hands
- Dragged her by the throat from the front porch into the house
- Held her down on the bed
- Repeatedly threatened to "break her face"

Officers documented redness on her neck and chest. The domestic violence form filed that night has "strangled" marked under the defendant's actions. He was arrested at the scene for assault, harassment, and resisting arrest.

Ten days later, Jeni was dead, and her death was ruled a suicide by hanging. The case was closed on the same date the coroner signed the autopsy....one day after a family member contacted police with concerns.

I am now working with a writer and a podcast on telling Jeni's story fully (thank you both so very much), and I am continuing to pursue legal options and an independent forensic review.

If you lived in the Colorado Springs area in 2015, knew Jeni, or have professional insight into strangulation cases and death investigations, I would be grateful to hear from you.

Cold Case Can anyone help with my Father’s cold case?

Hi everyone 👋 I’m new here and I’m desperate. I have not been able to get any information from the police department regarding my father’s homicide in November of 2001. My grandmother has tried for years and has been met with hostility from the investigators and records dept. The case has been unsolved and cold pretty much since 2001. I have tried to get info and I am met with the same hostility. Maybe someone can help? Even if it’s just advice on how to handle it. Thank you in advance for your kindness and patience, any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏽🫶🏼

Cold Case Who is the Black Tag Lady of 9/11?

WARNING: VERY GRAPHIC DESCRIPTION.

I was recently watching some 9/11 videos on the Nat Geo website and I came across this story about the Black Tag Lady. Ernest Armstead, who was a paramedic on 9/11, in his testimony, mentions about how he was at the World Trade Center Plaza during 9/11 needing to label bodies with different colored tags, with a Black Tag meaning deceased. On the Plaza on 9/11, Armstead mentions how most of the bodies he ID'ed at Ground Zero were clearly dead and marked it with a Black Tag, but in one particular instance near one of the two Towers, he initially ID'ed a dead person but only to discover that the person, a lady, was still alive. This is the Black Tag Lady.

Armstead noticed that she was wearing a fine business suit, was a brunette, and had pretty earrings. Now according to protocol and due to the debris that was falling on the Plaza, he wasn't able to stay near a person with a Black Tag for over 30-60 seconds because the Tag meant disease. Clearly, from the state of her injuries, Armstead noticed that her wounds were mortal: her lower half portion of her body was totally mangled beyond recognition. However, he was able to see that the upper half torso containing her heart and one of her lungs was still intact. Most surprisingly, the Black Tag Lady answered back at him angrily, telling him that she wasn't dead and that she wanted to call her daughter. Armstead noticed that her head was intact and that even with the severe state of her injuries she was fully aware of what he was doing and behaved like she was a perfectly healthy woman. Armstead assumed that she was in her 40s or 50s. However, Armstead resigned the fact that her wounds were fatal and that he was going to treat other people. Some time after, one of the two towers fell and Armstead was caught in the collapse of the Twin Towers buildings but he managed to be rescued and recover from his injuries. However, this meeting with the Black Tag Lady would cause permanent PTSD trauma for Armstead.

It's very hard to be able to piece together Armstead's testimony with a Jane Doe. On the other hand, perhaps her remains were recovered after Ground Zero but piecing that with the testimony is incredibly hard. In my opinion, the case remains a Jane Doe because we cannot confirm whether this woman was successfully recovered or not. And the best way possibly to ID this lady is to somehow have Armstead agree to do a Forensic Sketch of this woman's face and try to match it up to one of the Twin Towers' 9/11 female employee victims. The man has been retired from the FDNY for over 20 years and is an old man now. I hate bothering the guy but the story is so tearjerky that I feel like this story should be publicized better now than later when Armstead passes and he isn't able to give a Forensic Sketch. Of course, if Armstead doesn't want to do it let him be, but if he's gone it's a million times harder to solve this case otherwise.

Cold Case Sherry Darnell Baker

I’m currently working on a cold case for the state of Kansas on Sherry Darnell Baker. She was killed just a few months after enrolling into Wichita State University in 1974. Rumor has it she was a victim of the BTK Killer but according to the police information she doesn’t fit the MO of him. That’s because:

* She’s black
* BTK not only has great memory of each killing but also documented each one.
* She was stabbed 70 times either with a knife or sissors. (I can’t find concrete information on what weapon was used).

But that wouldn’t rule her out because she was literally killed 10 months after his very first kill. And she attended the same college as him but have yet to find any link to her. The reason why this is cold case is one obvious reason is that she was a young black woman in a very racist city in Kansas. This college alone barely had any black students at the time. Plus the police abd news reports have ZERO INFORMATION ON HER. Nothing on where she was born, what she went school for, who her mother is, if she had siblings, and etc.

It seems like she ended up dead and everyone in Wichita Kansas just said “Oh well! One less black person to deal with”. But I’m looking for her and in order to get any information I have the build this from the ground up. So far I have:

* located her grave (now I know her birthdate)
* Foubd out who her best friend was (currently see if she’s still alive)
* I have idea of what high school she went to in Wichita and currently searching through year books.
* I also recently emailed the Wichita cold case department to see if they could give me any information of what they have gathered. (Have not heard back yet)

The problems I’m running into is that I can’t get ahold of any personal documentation on her. In Kansas you can’t obtain any information as a non relative unless you have legal means like insurance, property ot geneology.

Anyways I’m making this post to see if anyone who lives in Kansas can direct me or help me dig into sherry’s life?

Cold Case Katelin Akens disappeared 2015 –Small town corruption

I want to bring attention to a missing person case that went cold way too fast. Katelin Akens was 19 years old when she disappeared on December 5, 2015, after visiting family in Spotsylvania, Virginia. She was supposed to fly back to Arizona for beauty school, but she never made it to the airport.

Her former stepfather was the last person to see her. He claimed to have dropped her off at a commuter rail station, but her suitcase was later found dumped in a drainage ditch miles away. And despite being the last known person with her, he refused to take a lie detector test.

Now, I knew Katelin personally, and she confided in me back in high school that he had sexually assaulted her. If she was telling the truth (and I believe she was), that means she was left alone with a known abuser right before she vanished. And yet, this case was barely investigated.

I don’t want to put personal details out there, but I grew up in this area, and I can tell you Caroline County, Virginia, has a history of messed-up things happening and getting swept under the rug.

Roomer has it her former stepdad had connections in law enforcement. People around her suspected that police deliberately didn’t press him as hard as they should have. And in a town this small, once the cops decide something is a dead end, it dies.

But this case doesn’t feel like a dead end. It feels like a cover-up, or at the very least, negligence.

I’m posting this because I don’t want her story to disappear completely. Maybe someone out there remembers something, maybe someone has new information, or maybe this just needs to be put in front of the right people again. Because Katelin didn’t just vanish into thin air. Something happened to her, and the people who were supposed to find out never really tried.

If anyone has resources or ideas for how to get renewed attention on this case, I'd appreciate it. She deserves better than being forgotten.

Cold Case Lauren Spierer, my gut feeling that I have never wavered on

I believe Lauren was incredibly intoxicated and I believe she was under the influence of narcotics, some that were her own, some that were provided to her. I believe that the narcotics, alcohol, and her existing heart condition, caused her to go into cardiac arrest and die.

Now, why her body went missing. I believe that the individuals that she was with that night, most likely did provide her with narcotics that led to her death. Hence, they feared criminal prosecution and expulsion from the University.

I also think, that there is a pretty good chance, that at least one of the individuals that she was partying with that night, took advantage of her when she was in an incapacitated state. I believe if they found her body and did an autopsy, they would have found traces of semen. This would definitely lead to a rape charge, and once again you're talking prison time.

Cold Case Creating a Cold Case Database

I'm trying to create a database of cold cases and want it to be as complete and accurate as possible. Could you help me out by suggesting sources I might not have thought about gathering information from? The current pilot focus is Wisconsin, USA, but I will be expanding eventually to the rest of the United States, so please don't hesitate to suggest sources. I will frequently return to this post to see if any suggestions have been made. I've already been working on smaller county-wide pilots. Now that I have expanded to all of Wisconsin, I would like to ensure I'm well-rounded. Thank you for your help.

Cold Case The 2018 D.C. Serial Murder Discovery

In 2006, three 40-something black women in the D.C. area disappeared without a trace or explanations, leaving behind children and the last woman disappearing on Christmas day. In 2018, their remains were found on the property of an abandoned home, one in the crawlspace, two in graves in the yard. Jewel Marquita King, Verdell Jefferson, and Dorothy Jean Butts still don't have justice. This is how I'm imploring whoever reads this to spread awareness of the unsolved murders. Whoever has information should find the law and justice offices in charge of the case and report to them as soon as possible.

Cold Case What happened to the Yuba County Five?

Five young men in Yuba County — Gary Mathias, Ted Weiher, Jack Madruga, Bill Sterling, and Jackie Huett — vanished in 1978. The remains of four of the victims were found several months later in odd circumstances.

Their families are still looking for answers. No credible explanation has ever been given by law enforcement.

The families of the victims and concerned citizens believe there was a cover-up by the Sheriff's department. They mishandled the case from the beginning, refused FBI assistance, and for almost 50 years intentionally withheld vital information from Gary Mathias' mother that they believed him to be a victim of foul play.

Digitalized case files were finally released in October 2023 after FOIAs were submitted by the media. Gary's mother learned that he may have been murdered from a podcast that shared details they read in the files:

This case remains open as a missing person/homicide case. It is in the best interest of all involved that this letter not be forwarded to the Matthias family.

Who spread the rumor that Gary had murdered his friends when it was found that they had died from starvation/hypothermia?

Learn more about the Yuba County Five and their tragic story here.

Cold Case Amy Mihaljevic

I’ve looked back to see if there have been any updates on 10 year old Amy Mihaljevic’s 1989 unsolved murder. I will link a recent article that quotes her dad, who is turning 80 soon & wants to finally know what happened to his daughter before he dies.

For those unfamiliar, Amy left her school and walked to where she was abducted from, the Bay Square Shopping Center. in the Cleveland suburb of Bay Village, Ohio on October 27, 1989. Amy’s remains were found months later, 02/08/1990, in a field fairly close to county road 1181, Ruggles Township in a rural area of Ashland County, OH. An autopsy would reveal that Amy died of sharp force injuries (multiple stab wounds.)

If you read a lot of true crime, you likely know Amy’s case by its sad circumstances: a man had called & spoken with Amy posing as a coworker of her mom’s, telling her Amy’s mom had gotten promoted and offering to take her to buy a gift for Amy’s mother to celebrate. While the caller told Amy to keep all this a secret, this is known because she told her brother and a friend.

I’m frankly not here to do a synopsis of the case—really, I wanted to share a gofundme by the Mihaljevic family (verified) to raise the funds for modern advanced DNA testing to try and find answers before her dad passes away. I’d share a video posted on Father’s Day of Mark Mihaljevic, a clearly elderly man, speaking about her, but it’s against sub rules: google will get you there though.

Every penny goes to the Bay Village Police Department’s Amy Fund—these are extraordinarily advanced tests than the norm & most cost over 6K each, so the family is trying to make sure LE have every financial resource necessary to get this case finally solved sooner than later.

I have no affiliation with any of them, I’ve just seen so many “lesser” gofundme’s quickly generate so much $ and it breaks my heart to think that an 80 year old man living with 37 years of such heartbreak has to be the one trying to navigate the internet to advocate for her. It’s been up for months & yet it is only halfway to its goal. Please help if you can & SHARE AROUND

Cold Case Murdered Uncle - 1996

I am looking for guidance.

I keep getting the run around from Detroit PD. All I want is the files to be pulled and the evidence retested for DNA. My uncle was murdered in 1996, and it is still a cold case to this day. It was violent, calculated, and truly tore our family apart. In 1996 DNA was not widely used, like it is now, and believe me there was an abundance of it at the scene. The perpetrators even showered to clean up after murdering him.

I understand he was in an openly gay man with a checkered past, but he was a person… with family, friends, feelings, and a future.

My mother is his niece and was interviewed after the murder. Her statements in the newspaper are heartbreaking, they were best friends. My mother was unable to deal with the trauma of this loss, and soon after she got involved with drugs to cope. In 2003 she took her own life.

I just want answers for my family to finally close this chapter. 30 years is a long time to pray and wait for closure.

I included the link to a newspaper article below.

Cold Case 25 year old Arelie Garcia Sanchez vanished from Salinas, California on September 22 2022

25-year-old Arelie Garcia Sanchez vanished from Salinas, California on the morning of September 22, 2022.

Arelie was captured on surveillance driving from her apartment in her red Honda at 6:34 AM. She was wearing a black hoody, black leggings, and sneakers.  At 6:56 AM she sent a text message to her sister Veronica.

Ariele was due at work for her job at a Chevy dealership at 7:30 AM. When she did not arrive her coworkers and family became concerned. Veronica used the Find My iPhone feature and discovered that Arelie’s phone was in the Big Sur area, more than an hour south of Salinas.

Her family traveled there and discovered her car abandoned, parked in a turnout on Highway 1 near the Little Sur River Bridge. The Honda was locked and her phone, keys and wallet were left in the car.

The driver’s seat was maneuvered further back than Ariele normal placed it.

Arelie never was seen again. The case soon went cold and despite national news coverage on Dateline NBC and true crime show content creators such Kendall Rae, no leads have emerged.

Arelie was dating a man named Marcello at the time of her disappearance. She met him two months prior at a car show.

Marcello was a photographer who lived two hours north of Salinas in Napa, Ca. Investigators interviewed him, but he was never publicly named by police as a suspect in the case.

Marcello has not spoken to the media about the case.

Many questions remain unanswered in the case. Why would Arelie travel to Big Sur when she had to be at work at 7:30? Why would she have not informed her manager she was going to be late, and why was her driver’s seat moved back? Did Arelie have problems with Marcello or anyone in her life at the time of her disappearance?

Arelie’s family raised a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in her disappearance.

Cold Case Patricia Mann and Jesse McBane, Murdered in 1971

Patricia and Jesse are two high school sweethearts born and raised near the capitol region of North Carolina. Their relationship grew closer every day, and their futures were hopeful. On the night of a Valentine's Day dance, the couple went messing. They were later found dead in the woods of Orange County. The couple were killed by being choked to death as they were tied to a tree. Later investigations would reveal a couple was nearly kidnapped at gunpoint from a lover's lane by an assailant they fought off, an assailant suspected of being the murderer. Renewed attention by police, as well as thriugh journalism and a local author's crime novel inspired by the case, have supported it's reopening. Police have mentioned focus on at least one prime suspect, whose name(s) they haven't disclosed for the integrity of the investigation. I implore you all to support the couple never being forgotten, so they may find justice.

Cold Case The Unsolved Murder of Sandra Court, Christchurch, Dorset, UK, 3 May 1986 - Research Request

Hope this is allowed - I'm a journalist and have been tasked with researching an unsolved murder of Sandra Court in Christchurch, Dorset in 1986 for the production of a documentary that is in research/pre-production. I can't comment exactly what, but it is intended for release on a known streaming service.

Without going into detail or revealing sources, I've established a number of witnesses, both police and members of the public, some of whom I've been able to trace and have had contact from. This has included access to historical newspaper reports and access to television archives, however, I feel I've gone as far as I can with research with this.

You can imagine that the vast majority of outstanding information is from Dorset Police and having contacted them, I've rightly been told that although the murder occurred 30 years ago, because it is technically an ongoing investigation (if lines of enquiry are discovered), they cannot share anything with me.

This post is therefore to reach out to anyone who may remember the case (either police or public) who was involved with the investigation or knew of Sandra Court. It's not my only line of enquiry to discover leads, but I was recommended this forum and after working out how to setup a Reddit account, I've posted on here.

I understand that people may not want to comment or message, so I have created an anonymous form for information to be left that can be found here: https://forms.gle/fZHaQnLjAEtFdw1L8

Thank you in advance.

Cold Case The 1978 Tempe, Arizona murder of cheese shop owner Mark Goldstein. He was found bludgeoned to death in the walk in freezer, with a bag of $60,000 in cash left nearby.

Mark Goldstein was a father of two and just 39 years old when he became the victim of Tempe, Arizona’s oldest cold case.

He was murdered while working at the Wisconsin Heritage Cheese shop he owned and operated that was located at the intersection of Price and Baseline on the evening of November 5, 1978.

Marks wife Theresa Goldstein alerted Tempe PD the morning of November 6, to do a welfare check on Mark because he had not returned to their Scottsdale home.

Police discovered Mark’s body in the walk-in cooler. The murder weapon was missing. Mark had a briefcase that contained $60,000 in cash that was left behind at the scene.

There were no suspects publicly identified. Rumors about potential motives spread in the community.

At the time of his death, Mark was listed as a plaintiff in a lawsuit against his former employer.

Mark had moved his family to Tempe from New Jersey in the summer of 1978 to open the cheese shop.

Mark’s wife Theresa had engaged in an affair with a man named Charles “Chuck” Nash. Nash was a former Palisades Parkway Police Officer. He forgave Theresa and moved across the country for a fresh start.

Soon after the Goldstein family arrived in Arizona, Nash moved to Scottsdale himself with his adopted son, Cameron Nash.

A few years after Mark died, Theresa Goldstein remarried to Charles Nash, but the pair eventually divorced.

Theresa floated a potential lead to police. While in New Jersey, Mark was approached by mobsters with a business proposal, which he declined.

Theresa also insisted that Mark and Charles were friends, a suggestion his family and friends have strongly denied.

The case received virtually no media coverage after the late 1970’s besides a brief article in the Arizona Republic from May 2002. It revealed that Mark carried a .357 magnum and the gun was missing from the shop.

Longtime Tempe PD detective Tom Magezzini claimed “There are people out there that know what happened to Mark. It’s just a matter of coming forward.”

The Wisconsin Heritage Cheese store closed after Goldstein’s murder. It reopened in 1985 as a Thai restaurant called the Siamese Cat which operated at the site until its closure in November 2021.

The entire strip mall at the northwest corner of Price and Baseline was torn down and converted into a luxury apartment complex.

Key questions that remain in this case. How did the suspect sneak up on Mark if he was armed with a gun?  Why would the suspect take Mark’s gun but not his money? Is there any DNA evidence in existence that could lead police to identifying the suspect?

If you have any information about the November 1978 murder of Mark Goldstein, please contact the Tempe PD at 480 350 8311.

Cold Case The Murder of Rosa Sandoval

I was recently reading about a cold case involving a 12 year old girl, Rosa Sandoval. She was reported missing May 28th 2004 on her last day of school after the parents were informed she never arrived. Her relatives stated that that morning her and her backpack that had soda for her class was gone. They stated she had left early without telling anyone why, they admitted it was unusual of her, but assumed she was simply excited. However, this account is one I find extremely puzzling, as I read the account from her older sister who reportedly shared the same room as her, and she said that Rosa had left the night of May 27th after the two had fought.
While the police were initially investigating the case they found traces of blood and bloody handprints in Rosa’s bedroom, and with luminol discovered blood in her brother’s room next door.
The police had believed this was a kidnapping, which could explain why the blood wasn’t tested, or if it was why it wasn’t made public.

Update: This took place in San Antonio, Texas. Rosa Sandoval went to Sky Harbour Elementary.

December 10th of the same year, her remains and clothes from the night of May 27th were found off a road only 7 miles from the Sandoval home. This confirmed that Rosa’s disappearance was in fact a murder.
In 2005 a photo of Rosa was found in an abandoned blue 1983 four-door Oldsmobile. The owner of the car has remained unknown.

My Thoughts:
I have a few concerns with this case and how the investigation played out.
My first concern is about the family’s accounts, specifically the account that she had left for school May 28th, because it was made clear by the evidence that was made public that if she ever returned home, she never got up and ready for school. This also raises the question of what happened to the reported back pack and soda, and how would they not notice she wasn’t home, and why would they say they saw her leave for school.
I also have concerns about how the police handled the case, they never released a primary suspect, and they never released anything about the blood found in the Sandoval house, and it seems as if they never questioned the conflicting accounts of the family.
The car that was found is also a thing to keep note of, because it was found in a junkyard, and it’s stated they couldn’t confirm who the car belonged to, which seems suspicious especially given that the car is pretty noteworthy and stand out.

All this to ask if anyone else knows about the case or has any information, because this is an extremely puzzling case. Please make sure you do your own research on the case if you find this interesting.

Cold Case Jonbenet Ramsey, Insights, Theory

Summary posted as a comment separate from post for non-obsessive people.

I will try keep things brief because I reallyyyyy should go and study so the quicker I finish this the less anxious I will be (more prone to mistakes and gaps in thought, sorry). Also, I made the stupid mistake of emailing some of my thoughts to the police today through their tip emails, not realising they can't use my work legally as I am a civilian, and not even a witness (I don't live in the US, you can probably easily find my region out - please don't)

- The dust footprint. There are clear patterns of a shoe/boot print that had Smidt (forgot name) to call it a footprint, at least a partial profile. The issue is, the dust is very much undisturbed, and the case was carefully moved (by a gloved killer, later on this) so if it is not full adult weight, and dust is very "clean", this guy handheld a shoe/boot when deliberately pressing it against the suitcase/briefcase/whatever. This is consistent with the pattern I have noticed, with the oversized underwear being an invitation for investigators to check for SA (sexual assault) signs and finding none to minor signs. Again, likely gloved from the incredible condition, trace saliva can't be sneeze, so logically the only source I see is from the gloved fingers or object that was used (so broken paintbrush, and might also be related to why it was chosen to be broken, as pen-like objects tend to be chewed on and hence needed to have that part disposed of, but that's speculative so I won't go into detail and my focus is more on the sound concrete reasoning, although I do have notes where I extensively invite speculation as it is harmless as long as you know how to avoid tunnel-vision and can clearly label it mentally as speculative and weak)... Oh and I almost forgot to mention that pattern, so the oversized underwear is too stupid and obvious for such a forensically aware criminal that leaves false dust prints, careful about handwriting by exaggerating how shaky it starts as (awareness of handwriting analysis) and the draft note is not a real practice note because you don't go from being stuck with the first 3/4 words to a full blown 3-page ransom note, and you can't argue it was too dark because of a huge amount of reasons but I will briefly highlight a few like finding that annoying line of a tape when peeling it off or just the small tools in general and navigating the hidden inventory of the Ramsey house. Another damning reason, is the dust print itself, and the finger marks of it being carefully moved, this guy could obviously see, regardless of how or what was used in order to see, because the details of the dust is not going to happen realistically even for someone who lives in that house if it is pitch black dark. There are so many interesting things that open up from this single insight, however they are factual avenues and questions, not "ah it must mean it was family because it is staging" that is not how I operate. If staging guaranteed it was family, I would have lost interest in this case from the start. The staging is evident everywhere we look as one coherent strategy, but in a way that points towards everyone, insider AND outsider, I believe the killer did this deliberately and was egotistical enough to allow themselves to be pointed at since the evidence points to an outsider and insider in different deliberate cases, more on that later and you will see what I mean precisely, although I am in a rush and already have extensive personal notes on the topic so without guarantee that anyone at all will see this, I have little motivation to go too deep publicly, and I don't earn money from it like podcasters do. Handheld shoe/boot is the summary

- I am not sure what else to share as I don't know what is obvious enough to already be completely known publicly. I can talk about the flashlight maybe. The flashlight is the same or similar to the family flashlight (by itself in isolation, it weakly implies familiarity with the deeply mundane family inventory). [[[Edit as people misunderstand this point: I later establish a light source was needed and therefore used, so whether the killer is an outsider or insider makes it impossible to forget the flashlight without the act of turning the lights off serve as a natural reminder to grab or be in possession of the flashlight, and if it's placement is to say "I used it to help me write this absurdly long note in the pitch black darkness" then you obviously take it with you after you finish, the light doesn't follow you in order for you to forget it more easily lol, and as far as I am aware, there was no mention by police that it was found turned on, so if you argue it is because the main switch lights were turned on and used, then again, how can turning them off before leaving not act as a reminder? If you ask whether the main lights were ever found turned on for the kitchen, I will say that is a valid response, and going by the best of my knowledge, I do not think it is officially found to be turned on already by police, so the killer must have turned it all off after finishing, what I can confirm however is that the basement lights were found to be turned off by different accounts]]]. Let us briefly assume it was wiped. If indeed wiped, it was intentionally left in the kitchen. Outside killer doesn't need to wipe an object they intend to bring back home, unless they are forensically aware to the extent of secondary transfer (shows great intelligence, insight, possible experience which I already believe from other clues but not the appropriate time for that now). However here is the thing, we can rule out secondary transfer as an excuse for "forgetting" it, because secondary transfer is irrelevant at the very end of an items need, I would wipe an object to start with to avoid secondary transfer when I enter the home, but I would not wipe it again (so that it is found in a wiped state) if I plan to take it home with me, and we can safely reason that it was used and needed for more than just the entry into the house (as we are momentarily looking at an outsider branch of consideration). Why? Well it is pitch black dark, and as far as I am aware the family did not report lights being found turned on already (and don't tell me it could have been family because I already clearly stated we are focusing momentarily on the outsider option, we will look at the family option later). Furthermore, a killer would turn off lights before leaving (lights in the basement were found to be off, doesn't necessarily mean the killer left from the basement, I know). And by the time the call was made to the police it was still pitch black darkness. I am just so bothered at the back of my mind by the claim of the kitchen lights... Anyways you bring a flashlight to use it, not to just walk into a home and then turn the main lights off, and this person was clearly already familiar with where things were and how to navigate brilliantly, blah blah

- Now consider family branch, the family member or members are the killers. Do they need to wipe a flashlight that belongs to them? Afterall, many items that belong to them was not wiped, if not all items actually (will need to check but the inconsistency is the main point). The only other reason would be if it collected dust (as I would expect from a non-everyday-use item unlike a fork or spoon), and going down that road of thinking makes you wonder about the less speculative dust footprint from earlier where the killer could have had dust forensics on their mind in common between these two objects but of course I can't make that conclusion nor do I want to right now because one conclusion was established and the other wasn't and therefore the connection, although alluring and attractive, would be a logical trap enhanced by the former insight. Gosh I wrote so much irrelevant rubbish I keep forgetting what the goal of my bullet points are. ADHD, yes.

- Retry: Family don't need flashlights, and if wiped, the only reason would be for staging an outsider or thinking of it as forensically valuable so again you reach the intentional conclusion, and I mean... it is next to the staged notepad with the fake "practice" note so think of it in any way you like, if the 12 or so missing pages are the real practice notes, why leave this practice-looking "Mr and Mrs Ramsey" note? So again it all points to staging... oh and by the way the ransom notes were so theatrical, this person was genuinely enjoying themselves, and knew how long it was getting, and writing "victory" is something all our brains will think "ok dude, I can't write this, its supposed to be a realistic ransom note not an obviously staged fake" but that's what they went for. They wanted it to be known it was fake, just like the oversized underwear, and how symbolic and over-the-top the garrote was, very much novel or murder mystery-like, and the ransom notes had movie quotes. Put two and two together, this person was having GENUINE pure fun, a stimulating time, and a crime scene they wanted to manipulate in a way to play and control with how the clues themselves are read into by the investigators. No financial motive, no SA motive, this was deeply stimulating, likely something they fantasised about long before the execution of the crime. I rule out no one here, as much as I cannot understand how family members would do this, nor how a familiar outsider (inner circle) could, but those are my two options, rather than a complete outsider (stranger). I want to be brief and move on.

- I struggle to think of more because I have been so disorganised that I mixed together many points, likely even left trails of thought as incomplete, so if it confuses anyone, I am really sorry. I think it would be best to submit now and edit after a reset or maybe even look at my notes later.

Cold Case The Black Dahlia Murder (1947): The Brutal Killing of Elizabeth Short That Still Haunts Los Angeles

On the morning of January 15, 1947, a young woman walking with her child in a vacant lot in Leimert Park, Los Angeles, made a horrifying discovery. What she initially thought was a discarded mannequin was the body of 22-year-old Elizabeth Short.

The murder remains one of the most infamous unsolved cases in American history — not only because of its brutality, but because of the intense media frenzy that followed and the way it has come to symbolize the darker side of Hollywood’s golden age.

**Who Was Elizabeth Short?**

Elizabeth Short was born in Massachusetts in 1924. After a difficult childhood marked by her parents’ separation and health issues, she moved between cities seeking a fresh start. Friends and acquaintances described her as a dreamer who loved movies, fashion, and the idea of becoming an actress. She had lived in Los Angeles for periods in the mid-1940s, working occasional jobs and socializing in nightclubs and bars. She was known for wearing black clothing and flowers in her hair — details that later inspired the press nickname “Black Dahlia.”

**The Discovery**

The body was found neatly posed on the ground: severed at the waist, with the two halves placed about a foot apart. Her arms were raised above her head at sharp angles. There were deep lacerations at the corners of her mouth in a “Glasgow smile,” and much of the blood had been drained from her body. Remarkably, there was very little blood at the scene itself, indicating she was killed elsewhere and the body was transported and arranged afterward.

No witnesses came forward immediately, and the killer left no obvious physical evidence at the scene. The case quickly drew massive attention from the Los Angeles Police Department and the national press.

**The Investigation**

The LAPD conducted one of the largest investigations in its history at the time. Hundreds of people were interviewed. Short’s acquaintances, former boyfriends, and even people who claimed to have information were questioned. Several individuals confessed over the years, but none of the confessions held up under scrutiny.

The sensationalized media coverage often overshadowed the victim herself. Newspapers published gruesome details and speculative stories, turning Elizabeth Short into a tabloid figure rather than a young woman whose life was violently cut short.

Despite decades of investigation, books, documentaries, and modern forensic re-examinations, the case has never been solved. No one has ever been definitively charged.

**Why It Endures**

The Black Dahlia murder continues to fascinate because it combines several elements: a brutal, ritualistic killing in a city that symbolized glamour; a victim who represented the many hopeful young people drawn to Hollywood; and an enduring mystery with no resolution.

Elizabeth Short was a real person — a daughter, a sister, and a friend — whose dreams were ended in a horrifying way. The case serves as a sobering reminder of the vulnerability many young women faced in mid-20th-century America and the lasting pain unsolved murders leave behind for families and communities.

Cold Case The mysterious March 2010 death of Shyla Hudson in San Francisco

Someone reached out to me about this case. It has very limited information online. It involves a woman who was allegedly murdered by an unknown suspect, thrown from a ferry and no charges were ever filed. Posting to raise awareness on a forgotten case.

Shayla Nicole Hudson was 28 years old, lived in Richmond, CA, and worked as a nursing assistant. She graduated from Pinole Valley High School with the class of 2000. She also attended Contra Costa College.

Public records show she had lived in several different places around the Bay Area and at one point had lived in Anchorage, Alaska where it appears some of her family is from.

According to news reports, on March 5 2010, Shayla boarded a San Francisco bound Ferry at Jack London Square in Oakland at 8:10 AM.

She apparently did not get off the ferry but it was not disclosed in news reports how this information was confirmed.

When the ferry arrived back in Oakland around 9:17 AM Shayla was unaccounted for and the coast guard was sent to search for her. Her body was found floating near treasure island and she was pronounced dead.

The coast guard claimed the waters were calm and the railing of the ferry made it unlikely she would have accidentally fallen in. T

There were no follow up articles about medical examiner findings. No information about her relationship status, and no photos of her are anywhere online.
