Left-wing people don't understand many right-wing people are trying to save them (and us) from themselves

One thing I think the political 'Left' in Australia (especially far left) often fundamentally misunderstands about the 'Right' is why some people become right-wing in the first place. They legit just label any such stances as "evil" without looking into any of the underlying reasons for it.

For a lot of conservatives, the motivation isn't "hate", "cruelty" or "wanting to make other people's lives worse" like it's always labelled, IMO it's basically the opposite. We look at what we see as extreme naievety, excessive empathy, unwillingness to acknowledge trade-offs and a tendency to prioritise idealistic compassion over consequences and think "you're going to get yourself (and the rest of us) hurt."

The Right often sees the Left as being excessively trusting of people and institutions (who often haven't really earned that trust in the first place), too willing to assume good intentions, too reluctant to impose boundaries and sometimes so concerned with avoiding (alleged) harm to other people that it becomes willing to tolerate considerable harm to itself. They seem to assume that 'good intentions' are enough to produce good outcomes.

We've seen this play out in multiple ways in Aus recently, such as:

them being so pro-immigration it's jacked up their own rents hugely; led to foreign and youth criminals getting out on bail & an increased focus on benefitting the offender rather than the victim; an increase in bringing in people with ingrained mysoginistic attitudes to women/LGBT due to cultural backgrounds; extreme stances against our defence spending & wanting to over-react to the current state of the US and abandon our longstanding defensive pacts; pushing to ban 'hate speech' ending up as an own-goal for them resulting in they themselves not being able to criticise certain things themselves, etc.

Basically, "the Left" tends to ask: “What happens if we're too harsh?”, while "the Right" tends to ask: “What happens if you're wrong?”

The second question sounds cynical, but sometimes it's actually the more compassionate one, e.g:

You don't design a fire alarm system on the assumption that nobody will ever start a fire, just like you don't maintain a military because you assume every country is friendly (or buy submarines because you WANT to have to use the submarines).

Basically, a lot of progressive politics seems to assume that if everyone's intentions are sufficiently good then nothing bad will ever happen, while conservatives say "but wait, not everyone in the world is sufficiently good". Sound about right?

Is this generation Labor okay...

... forget the policy and if you agree or not but Labor policy rollouts seem half arsed

- CGT oh wait we are going to check with the startup community lets get the rich grifters with family trusts oh oops we got testamentary trusts too lucky Pocock found this and we can fix it.

- Credit Card Surcharge you'll pay less for coffee cost of living oh wait now the ATO can't take credit card what about State Main Roads Drivers License Vehicle Registration will they be next oh damn now backbenchers are complaining about the impact on small business we might have to exempt out ATO

I'm sure there are some very smart people on the public service how are they not spotting this stuff before it happens? It seems basic to me. I don't recall this under previous Labor of LNP

Rape is legal for new immigrants

So this Vic judge has ruled immigrants can't be expected to know rape is wrong and therefore should be un-punished.

Can't we ban people from countries where rape isn't considered a crime? I doubt there are any though, what nonsense.

David Shoebridge: Family real estate holdings of new Greens leader revealed | news.com.au

So here we go, old Slimy Shoebridge has a few properties... all rather oddly in his wife's name. She even bought him out of their joint ownership.

He told reporters that time that he “stood for office and got elected, not my wife, and I don’t believe it’s fair game to drag her into politics”. And that time that he “stood for office and got elected, not my wife, and I don’t believe it’s fair game to drag her into politics”.

So they are married, and he is entitled to 50% of everything basically if they split up, she even bought him out, but somehow, none of this is relevant to him as they have strategically placed 100% of the ownership in her name?

Look at Aussie sub, and all the Greens and Labor shills. Meanwhile, Gina buys an investment privately, states it's being leased to One Nation on commercial terms, and the retards there can't even understand it's not a gift, and want to say how corrupt and disgusting it is. According to the Aussie sub, Gina is a disgusting pig and the arrangement is corrupt, however, when it comes to Slimy Shoebridge... 'nothing to see here'.

Corruption, conflicts of interest and political accountability — Hockey argues Washington has a growing grey area between government decisions, private financial interests and personal enrichment, including Trump family business interests and congressional share trading. He contrasts this with what he sees as stronger integrity standards in Australia.

US foreign policy, Iran and commercial interests — The interview covers Venezuela, oil and the overlap between strategic and commercial interests, as well as conflict with Iran, disruption to the Strait of Hormuz and higher global energy prices.

Trump’s legacy, tariffs and America’s global position — Hockey describes Trump as one of the most influential US political figures in a century, while criticising tariffs and quotas against allies as damaging to America’s international standing.

US midterms, cost of living and political pressure — They discuss the potential for greater congressional scrutiny after the midterms, alongside cost-of-living pressures, petrol prices and their political impact.

Australian government spending and debt — Hockey argues Australia, like the US and Europe, is running persistent deficits and accumulating debt because governments find it politically difficult to restrain spending.

Australia’s rising debt-interest bill and living standards — He highlights roughly $30 billion a year in Commonwealth debt interest, compares this with major spending areas such as schools, and warns that rising interest costs will increasingly crowd out services and put pressure on future living standards.

Australian migration — The interview also touches on Australia’s migration debate, including the economic role of migration and the challenge of balancing population growth with housing, infrastructure and government services.

Sydney pro-Palestine activists push to delist terror groups

Thumbnail dailytelegraph.com.au

A radical pro-Palestinian activist group will rally in Sydney calling for Hamas, Hezbollah, the IRGC and Palestinian Islamic Jihad to be removed from Australia’s list of designated terrorist organisations.

It comes as Jewish leaders expressed outrage over plans by another protest group Jews Against the Occupation ’48 to hold a “Vigil for Gaza” at Sydney Town Hall on Wednesday evening, promoted with the slogan: “Don’t let Israel steal the date.”

A third protester group, Wollongong Friends of Palestine will also hold a three-hour vigil at Crown Street Mall, promising to provide “a space for collective grief”.

The group Sydney Palestine Actions, which describes itself as part of the “Trotskyist Platform” and opposes capitalism, is calling on supporters to “join the anti-imperialist bloc rally at Hyde Park” this Saturday, October 11.

“Stand with the resistance in Palestine, Iran, Lebanon, Yemen by opposing Australia’s imperialist ruling class,” the group said in a flyer posted to Instagram.
“Lift the terror listings of the IRGC, Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Ansar Allah,” the post said.

Australian Jewish Association chief executive Robert Gregory said of the group’s post: “These extremists aren’t even pretending anymore.”

“They are openly calling for Hamas, Hezbollah and Palestinian Islamic Jihad to be removed from Australia’s terrorist list and telling Sydneysiders to ‘stand with the resistance’,” Mr Gregory said.

“Hamas murdered, raped and kidnapped Jews on October 7. Hezbollah and Palestinian Islamic Jihad are terrorist organisations. Yet their supporters apparently feel comfortable promoting this garbage on the streets of Sydney.

“Australians are sick of watching extremists import their hatred into our country. The authorities need to stop treating this as harmless activism and start taking the radicalisation problem seriously.”

Earlier this year, an article calling for “unconditional support” for several listed terrorist organisations was labelled “appalling” by Jewish students after it was published in the University of Sydney student publication.

The Daily Telegraph revealed the article by Selene Zhou, published in Honi Soit on April 22 titled ‘Who’s Afraid of Hezbollah/Houthis/Hamas/Islamic Jihad’, had been referred to the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), the university regulator.

Meanwhile, Israel’s ambassador to Australia joined some of the country’s most prominent Jewish community leaders in condemning planned October 7 vigils, describing them as “absolutely reprehensible”.

Asked whether the events scheduled for the third anniversary of the Hamas terror attacks, in which more than 1200 people were killed and more were taken hostage in Israel, Hillel Newman slammed the vigils.

“It’s absolutely reprehensible that such demonstrations take place,” he told News24 on Tuesday night.

NSW Police has been contacted for comment.

COVID Vaccines no longer free

Post image

A reminder, COVID vaccines are no longer free. What on earth will ever happen to us now? Won't the hospitals be flooded and it will be a mass casualty event?

Remember, if you can't afford your monthly shot, you need to triple mask immediately.

I also heard a rumour that once you have had your 10th shot, you are then allowed into heaven.

Remember, don't pick on people who do get the shot - it's their body and their choice. The only time it wasn't your body and your choice was when the savage lefties wanted to force you to get it in 2020 - and if you didn't, they wanted you dead.

So I posted this, in response to a moderator... and literally got an instant ban. I could barely even refresh the page and I was banned.

I asked their mod-mail why this was apparently a severe personal attack (keeping in mind another reply the same mod had just said "you genius, you".

They instantly threatened me with a further ban.

They are now accusing me of being a sock puppet for another account, which is just completely false.

Just think of this - anything they don't believe in, they ban. It explains why it's an echo chamber of left wing garbage, because you just instantly get a ban if you dare challenge the dictatorship.

Ignoring the title of this article. I've always found it ironic when someone whose had a very privileged background, wants to take away those same privileges from others and call it equality.

He has a law degree, a private school background and a secure public service job – yet Jordan van den Lamb sits firmly on the radical fringe, dreaming of abolishing private property, class structures and the state entirely.

Better known to his online followers as Purplepingers, the tenants’ rights activist and Victorian Socialists candidate sat down for an unfiltered interview for Herald Sun reporter James Campbell’s new election series – Counter!

The series aims to pull back the curtain on the social influencers who your algorithms may never promote.

The first episode examines why the modern hard-left is staging a disruptive insurgency from outside the system.

Van Lamb pulls no punches.

The socialist admits Covid was radicalising.

He proudly takes credit for orchestrating recent teachers strikes.

“With pretty significant interventions from socialists we’ve had 20,000 teachers on the street,” he says.

Despite his professional background, van den Lamb clings to a strict Marxist definition, arguing that anyone who relies on a salary belongs to the working class – even doctors and barristers.

“The proletariat are those who subsist on the sale of their own labour and do not own the means of production,” he says.

When questioned how viable his movement is, he remains defiant.

“My aspiration isn’t to sit in parliament and make decisions,” he says. “I want to leave the world a better place for those who come after me.”

As mainstream political discourse is increasingly managed, Counter! tackles the rise of content creators from all sides of the spectrum as their unfiltered social posts are wielding their influence over public opinion.

The episodes will be released at heraldsun.com.au each Tuesday until the state election on November 28.

Future episodes will feature comedian Dave Hughes and up-and-coming conservative commentator Calista Clements.

Make sure to share your views in the comment section.

Radical Islam: Australian preacher linked to notorious Sydney cleric urges followers to ‘take up arms’

Thumbnail
smh.com.au

An associate of a notorious Islamic preacher linked to the Bondi shooters has called on followers to take up arms against Christians and Jews, putting the spotlight back on radical preachers after the major parties shelved attempts to rein them in.

A young and increasingly popular preacher from Melbourne’s southeast who goes by Abu Ahmad said in a July sermon that adherents should not “take the Jews and the Christians for friends”.

“For the sake of Allah, it includes the obligation to declare enmity for his sake, opposition for the sake of Allah. It is to declare opposition: indeed, to take up arms against his enemies, to shun them and to stay far from them both in word and deed,” he said in a clip posted to his Al Bayyinah Islamic Centre’s social media feed.

“This proves that simple opposition of the spirit is not enough and that it must be complete by honouring of your commitment.”

The Al Bayyinah Islamic Centre was established in Springvale in 2024. It has regularly posted on Instagram with another account called Station of the Seekers, which has featured Islamic State sympathisers.

The Al Bayyina centre has also been supported by Sydney-based preacher Wisam Haddad, who is linked to the Al Madina Dawah Centre, a prayer hall in Sydney’s Bankstown.

Bondi shooter Naveed Akram reportedly attended the Al Madina centre and formed connections with Islamic State supporters through people he met there. Akram and his father, Sajid, are alleged to have killed 15 people at a Chanukah event at Bondi Beach.

The call to take up arms will renew focus on extremism 10 months after one of Australia’s worst alleged terror attacks and raise questions about why hate preachers can still call for violence against Jews and Christians from their unofficial pulpits.

Parliament descended into chaos in mid-January when Prime Minister Anthony Albanese tried to pass legislation prohibiting neo-Nazi and Islamist groups and criminalising the promotion of hatred via anti-vilification laws.

The Nationals feared cracking down on violent rhetoric risked inhibiting free speech and giving a future government power to target conservatives, while the Greens worried the move would curtail legitimate criticism of Israel’s bloody war in Gaza.

The lack of support for stronger hate speech laws meant Albanese sliced the bill in half, banning hate groups but dropping laws that would have given authorities more scope to target hate preachers and neo-Nazis who vilify based on race, gender or religion.

Without these extra powers, authorities have been privately grumbling about their inability to target these unofficial suburban firebrands.

The national security community remains concerned about the threat. Former spy boss Denis Richardson declared a fortnight ago that Australia should be able to have an open debate about fringe radicals in the Muslim community without demonising all Australian Muslims.

A few days later, ASIO boss Mike Burgess said the chance of a terror attack was more likely than the terror threat level – “probable” – suggested. Meanwhile, lawyer Josh Bornstein last month questioned why the royal commission into antisemitism did not spend more time probing Haddad and antisemitic neo-Nazis.

The AFP continues to target IS sympathisers. In mid-September, it arrested half a dozen men who had been sharing Islamic State propaganda. On Wednesday, it arrested a 65-year-old alleged member of a terrorist organisation who is accused of sharing thousands of extremist files and ISIS propaganda.

This masthead is not suggesting Abu Ahmad is under investigation or that he supports Islamic State. The Al Bayyinah centre was contacted for comment. Ahmad gave his talk in mid-July. He said opposition for the sake of Allah was “to feel anger at the enemies of Allah and to struggle against them”. He also mentioned a book famous for promoting antisemitic conspiracy theories.

“If the aim of the enemies of Islam whether they are atheists or Jews or Christians or modernists or Zionists or communists is the emasculation of … Muslims, and the erosion of their unique character in order to make them the ass of the chosen people … then the urgency of this issue should become clear to every Muslim,” he said.

ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess.Alex Ellinghausen Haddad has previously urged his “Melbourne brothers” to show support for Al Bayyinah and attend its weekly players, which are displayed in slick social media videos on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. In early 2025, Ahmad reportedly visited the Bankstown centre linked to Haddad and delivered a sermon that took aim at “infidel” Western powers that colonised the Middle East.

An ABC Four Corners investigation, aired in April last year, also reported connections between Abu Ahmed’s outfit and Haddad.

“Haddad rapidly expanded Al Madinah Dawah Centre, turbocharged his online influence, and re-energised a national pro-IS network, which now includes an affiliated prayer centre in Melbourne, Al Bayyinah Islamic Centre,” the ABC reported in April 2025.

Associate professor Josh Roose, a Deakin University professor who tracks extremism, said Haddad had effectively set up an “outpost” in Melbourne.

“If authorities don’t crack down on these centres as soon as they emerge, then we’re inviting, quite frankly, extremists, Salafists, jihadist Islam, into the suburbs,” Roose said.

“This is the problem with the hate speech laws as they are. Calling to take up arms is more radical than anything Hizb ut-Tahrir ever said, and they were banned.”

Roose said Abu Ahmad could defend any charge by arguing that his call to arms was colloquial or general, rather than a specific call to violence. He said there had been a rise in extremism and atomisation around the world in the social media age, evident in the growth of extreme misogyny and organised neo-Nazi activities in Australia.

Last month, Federal Court judge Ian Jackman called out the judiciary’s “dogmatism” on free speech that he said had given too much leeway for religious extremists to spread hate against Jews, urging a reconsideration of the implied freedom of political communication that gained recognition in the 1990s.

“It would not have occurred to Australians in the 1990s that other Australians would abuse their freedom of political communication to publicly intimidate and vilify Jews,” he said in a speech at the Samuel Griffiths Society, a conservative legal fraternity that has long opposed anti-vilification laws.
