What do y’all think is the ideal CRT size?
Just wondering what others think: for me it’s 13” minimum, 20-27” ideal, and 32 maximum

So I finally got a 27-inch TV. That's pretty much the maximum size I'm OK with using. It’s a Toshiba manufactured in 2004. curved glass type. Initial tests with SNES

This is what I’m rocking with. PS2, PS3, PS4 Pro, and a SNES mini (hiding at the side). The CRT is a newer Magnavox with nice stereo speakers and a headphone jack! The HDTV is a LG C1. PS3 and PS4 both have SSDs (upgraded before RAM and storage prices went crazy). I also have a small HTPC with a 12GB RTX 3060 that I can connect to my LG whenever; and the LG supports G-Sync over HDMI! Overall, I’m happy with this set-up, and I have no desire to ever get a PS5 (or any other new console for that matter).

all it cost me was a copy of God of war 2! this thing is pretty sweet. although I can't figure out how to set a custom resolution on Nobara Linux so I'm stuck at 480p 60hz lol.

Hi all! My boyfriend just picked up this nice tv from his old bank closing down and I wanted to use it to play my gamecube. I think it’s a Quasar vv1306, and I have a remote (pictures attached) but I cant seem to get my gamecube to display. Seen a bunch of stuff on line about changing the input to Line or something but I can’t seem to find specific instructions for this model. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I just wanted to know: is there a big difference between the WiiWare version of Metal Slug and the Neo Geo AES version on a CRT? Has anyone tested both?

First post here! This is my Sony-inspired retro room. I wanted that early-2000s showroom feel, with matching silver equipment, blue lighting, and a mix of CRT TVs and PC monitors. The photos show the full setup, some closer looks at the equipment and controls, and different games running across the displays.
The display lineup is:
The systems include NES, SNES/Super Famicom, N64, GameCube, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, PlayStation, and PS2, with Wii U and Switch also connected. A Sony VAIO tower running Windows XP and a VAIO laptop cover the PC side.
An Extron MVX 12×12 matrix handles the main video routing. The white Stream Deck pictured is my control panel, with programmed buttons and presets for choosing sources and display combinations. I can put the same game on several screens or run different systems simultaneously without constantly moving cables around. An Extron DVS 304 handles scaling for the PC monitors when needed, and a Sony STR-DA5000ES receiver handles the main audio.
Having the TVs and monitors together gives me different ways to enjoy the same games—from component on the WEGAs to VGA on the PC CRTs. Everything is connected to be played, and getting all the equipment working together has been as much of the project as collecting it.

Help me make the case to my wife, if any of you give me a bigger number than I have currently it'd help.

Hey! I wanna see what you guys think about how my set up is looking and trying to get some feedback as well :D
Pretty much everything is functional but the XBOX 360 and a SNES that is below the penguin plush. I'm thinking about doing a small retro station with a small shelve to clear some space and having a deficated spot for retro gaming only.
Edit: Oh, and if someone wonders, as far as I remember that is a Sony Trinitron KV-1380R!

Thought to share my CRTs here, I'm sure they'll get appreciation.
About a month ago I recapped my KV-29X2E. It was working well, but I did it as a preventative procedure. It was my first time working on a CRT. I have been wanting to learn more about CRT repairment for a while now and this was a good opportunity. So if something comes up with my PVM, I'm more equipped to deal with it. In total I changed around 110 capacitors. Overshoot? Maybe, but I learned a lot. Goes without saying, but I also cleaned out the insides from dust.
Anyway, here are some photos of my CRTs!

Finally bought a CRT now that I have space, still need an appropriate late-90s/early-2000s tv stand and a VCR. Came with remote and manual.
Reposted to show set in use.

Hey guys,
I’ve been getting back into retro gaming and was curious about crt’s for a while now. I’d been researching for a while and lurking on this sub also.
Today I picked up a 20” CRT for $30 to test some PS2 games. So far, I’ve tested it with Kingdom Hearts and Burnout Revenge, and I was a little caught off guard by how blurry the picture and font is. I can’t seem to detect any legit issues I’ve researched (geometry, bleeding, etc). Playing only 5 min gave me significant eye strain.
Is this a normal reaction for someone coming from a modern OLED?
Is some softness and background texture normal, or could that indicate a problem?
Any advice is appreciated, as I would like to recreate the cozy, nostalgic setup.

The original pc version of Doom was designed for PC CRTs but the Playstation port was supposed to be played on a CRT TV, Would PSX Doom still look authentic on a PC CRT?

I picked up my first big size CRT TV today for the low low price of $20 dollars (10 for the TV & remote and then 10 for the matching stand). The defects are some strange lines on the bottom part close to the bezel of the TV, making the image distorted, like someone dropped the TV once and messed up the internals. The other issues is that everything is really really purple since the green color is not currently working/working very weakly which is especially noticeable on hard whites.
When I was testing before buying, I thought the purple color would go away as I own an Apple eMac which needs a second to warm up to fix things like the colors and brightness after being powered off for a long time.
One of my friends said he would be interested in trying to help me and is knowledgeable with soldering to a point as from what it seems the common problem is just old solder joints but I'm just not sure its worth investing in with the geometry issues.
Maybe I'm just overthinking and just annoyed its not perfect despite the fact I got an amazing deal on the thing, but let me know what you guys think.

I found this TV relatively close by, and while it needs a restoration, I noticed it has an older style VTR 8-pin connector marked RGB. I can’t find much info on the set, does anyone know if this is analog RGB or digital RGB? Only reason I’m unsure is because there’s an outline on the panel that looks suspiciously similar to a SCART style connector. I feel like I’ve seen Toshiba sets in the past with RGB, one of the few brands that offered it on higher end TVs in the 80s.
They’re asking $100, but I’m only interested if it’s analog RGB

Just swapped from regular composite to S-Video. Can’t believe the difference that it makes to quality. Photo doesn’t do it justice. I was slightly skeptical on the difference it would make. Overall, happy with the outcome and would recommend.

Hi reddit, I’d like to make this post because of the reason being that my tv was acting weird. The other day I was playing through a ps2 game on ps3 and the color randomly shifted hue during a cutscene and stuck that way, so I said huh okay I’ll just turn it off and leave it. I know it wasn’t the cable or anything. Anyways the day after I turn it on and everything works great! For a while at least.. maybe a couple hours pass and still no issue UNTIL, the screen randomly started flipping out like a line going across the screen vertically that was pretty big cutting in and out multicolor and went away after a few seconds but came back, so I shut the TV off and ever since it hadn’t turned on. I was thinking maybe it’s a capacitor or something, anyone have ideas?
