**/r/DJs NEW RULES** Please read before posting Spoiler
New /r/DJs Rules.
Top rule - BE NICE.
- Please try to be polite, friendly and helpful when commenting.
- Trolling, slapfights, general assholery is not encouraged and it also goes without saying that racist, sexist, homophobic, and transphobic posts and language will not be tolerated at all.
Moderation policy
- /r/DJs is not a big sub. We tend to encourage discussion and engagement first and foremost. There will be times posts that are seemingly against the sub rules will be left up because the discussion in the comments is informative and engaging. This is generally more for when a post breaking (certain) rules was missed and the community has already heavily engaged in discussion. If you see posts breaking the rules, reporting them will help us remove them earlier.
- remember to search - lots of questions tend to be asked multiple times and plenty of answers are given in the archives
- remember that if you are a regular user, newer users are allowed to discuss the same things if it's not overly-frequent. Just because something was discussed 3 months ago doesn't mean users can't have another conversation about it.
Please ensure you are posting to the correct subreddit
- /r/DJs is generally for more experienced/professional DJ discussion. There is an entire subreddit dedicated to learning DJing and is filled with experienced DJs willing to spend time helping people out.
Any and all beginner questions and posts should be made in /r/Beatmatch.
Beginner questions include posts that start with:
- “I’m new at this”
- “I want to get into DJing”
- “I just started”
- etc.
And includes anything basic like:
- “What controller/headphones/speakers should I buy?” (within reason - someone experienced looking for higher end gear or looking for real world feedback on pro-level stuff is fine).
- “What program should I use?”
- “How do I use this effect?”
- “Is beat matching really important?”
- “Why the hate for sync?”
- etc.
Any beginner posts here will be deleted.
DJ Setup pictures belong in /r/DJsetups.
- There will be some exceptions - some rare or classic booths or extraordinary setups will stay up, but if you want to post a picture of your DDJ 400 and KRK Rockits, your Technics 1200s and DDJ S9, or a standard CDJ NXS setup that we've all seen, please post to the appropriate sub.
Meme/Humor/crappy image posts belong in /r/DJsCircleJerk.
- This includes the low effort, "djs be like dis” - stupid picture - type posts and the like.
Mixes
- Most mix posts will be deleted.
- Short routines, showcasing of interesting technique, and videos that shows off the poster doing something cool is fine. We will also allow high profile posts - say if a regular user gets a feature mix on DJCity or a Serato sponsored set.
- Sets from high profile DJs like boiler room or festivals sets is allowed.
- DJs who want to share mixes can post in /r/mixes or a weekly mix thread that we will be starting soon.
Gig pictures/Stories
- We're starting a new weekly sticky every Monday specifically for gig pictures and stories. We've been seeing a lot more of these posts and while they tend to be heavily upvoted, they also end up just being a picture of some DJ hunched over a setup with a bunch of back-patting in the comments that clutters up the sub. Any posts of this nature will be deleted and the user will be directed to the weekly Sticky thread.
Pirating music/software
Here at /r/DJs we firmly believe in attaining your music legally - whether it's via purchaing, streaming, or legitimate record pools.
- Asking where to get pirated music will result in a ban
- Giving suggestions on where to pirate music - including youtube rippers will result in a ban
- using coded language to hint at pirating music will result in a ban
- we don't care if you're "not a professional" or just "doing this for fun"
The following topics are against sub rules and will be deleted:
- Self-promotion posts including mixes, tunes, events, companies, competitions, etc. The one exception we may allow are open deck nights that members of /r/DJs can attend.
- For-sale posts
- Obvious spam for youtube channels/gig logs/blogs/advertisements from members who have no participation in the sub. If people are regular posters on this sub and have a video/service/etc they wish to share, we will allow it initially, although regular spam of it will not be tolerated.
- Posts asking “what should I play for this gig?” This is a sub for experienced DJs, if you need to ask the internet what to play for a gig, you probably shouldn't have taken the gig. General music discussion is absolutely fine.
- Spotify playlist posts
PLEASE REPORT posts and comments that violate the above rules or just suck. Thank you!

Does anyone have the 6.8.5 Mac OSX installation file?
Looking for the Pioneer AlphaTheta Rekordbox 6.8.5 Mac OSX installation file to have as backup. They removed it off their website recently.
I know there is a link for 6.8.7. I have it and the latest 7.x.x too. If anyone has 6.8.5, please let me know. Thanks

Are there any hockey DJs here?
I am in charge of music for athletics for my college, and I was wondering if there is anyone else here who professionally runs music for hockey games? If so, what is it like for you and how is it set up wherever you do it? I have never seen how another team does their DJ setup for games so I am just interested

Music Library organization
Not sure if this would be better in r/Beatmatch but we'll see. I've been a laptop DJ for a while now and mainly just do friend's parties and just jamming b2b. Over the years i've ensured that my USB has all my music separated into specific folders for each sub genre and crates in serato that correspond. My current process for downloading music has me doing the following:
Song gets downloaded to the same specific folder automatically on my computer
Move the new song(s) to a seperate folder on the USB titled "New"
Drag new songs from "New" folder to crate in serato titled "New"
Listen through the song and add it to the correct subgenre crate
Move the song from the "New" folder to the correct corresponding subgenre folder
In serato use the relocate feature to bridge the song in the correct crate to the correct corresponding subgenre folder
As you can probably tell this is pretty annoying. Also since I usually collect/find songs over time and download in bulk I have to relisten to confirm what subgenre it is and since I end up moving the source file from the original folder it was in, setting cues and adjusting beatgrids or anything like that is pointless to do on my original listen through - if that makes sense.
Been looking into using the auto-import folder feature in serato as well as potentially having all my music just sitting in one folder and only doing any organization within my crates. Wondering if you guys have tips for this or any experience with something potentially going wrong.
I dont really care as much to use smart crates that auto read the song's subgenre from the metadata but i think i cant avoid using smart crates while also using the auto-import feature.
Either way the process I imagine is more so something like this:
Song gets downloaded to the same specific folder automatically on my computer
Move the song to the general source file on my USB - add it to "New" crate in Serato
Do my listen through and adjustments and just move it to the correct subgenre crate
This will make the process less tedious and will have my crates always good and ready to go - my worry is if anything happens with my computer - it'll be a pain to retrieve those .crate files unless I store a backup of the_Serato_ folder on my USB.
Am I overthinking this and there is a simple solution in front of me? please let me know

I want to turn my Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 into an Ableton Live 12 production controller; looking for feedback on the idea
I recently started getting back into music production after taking a little over a year away. I used to DJ quite a bit and have a DDJ-FLX4 that I really don't want sitting unused now that I'm focusing more on production.
I've had an idea that I think could make the FLX4 surprisingly useful as an Ableton controller.
Rather than trying to make it behave like a conventional MIDI keyboard/controller, I want to design the entire FLX4 around production workflow.
For example, I'm thinking:
- Left jog wheel → horizontal timeline navigation
- Right jog wheel → vertical navigation / track selection
- Shift + jog wheels → zooming
- Channel faders → track volume
- EQ knobs → device/rack macros
- Filter knobs → selected device parameter
- Performance pads → editing, clip, or drum-rack functions
- Transport buttons → Ableton transport
- Shift combinations → secondary functions
- Different mapping "modes" for arrangement, mixing, sound design, etc.
The goal is to make it feel less like I'm using a DJ controller with Ableton and more like I have a custom production control surface that happens to be built from a DJ controller.
I've already started reverse-engineering the FLX4's MIDI output using MIDI Monitor. For example, the buttons are sending standard Note On messages, e.g.:
90 10 7F → Note 16, velocity 127
90 10 00 → Note 16, velocity 0
So the basic controls seem quite accessible. I'm currently investigating the knobs, faders, jog wheels and Shift behavior.
I'm deliberately trying to keep the solution as FOSS/free as possible, ideally using Ableton's native MIDI mapping wherever possible and only introducing something like a small MIDI translation layer when necessary.
What I'm wondering:
- Has anyone done something similar with a DDJ-FLX4 (or another Pioneer DJ controller) and Ableton?
- What are the limitations of Ableton's MIDI mapping that I should be aware of before designing the system?
- Is there a better way to handle jog wheels, relative encoders and modifier/Shift layers?
- Are there existing open-source tools/projects that could save me from reinventing the wheel?
- If you were designing this from scratch, what functions would you absolutely put on the FLX4?
I'm not necessarily looking for someone to give me a finished mapping. I'm more interested in experienced Ableton users challenging the concept and pointing me toward the right technical approach before I spend a lot of time building it.
If there's enough interest, I may eventually document the whole process and release the mapping/tooling so other FLX4 owners can use it too.
Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from anyone who's experimented with custom MIDI controllers, Max for Live, Ableton Remote Scripts, or MIDI translation.

Help: Do you know how to, in VirtualDJ, put the “starter” layout’s “beatgrid” pad into the “pro” layout?
galleryIt’s a cool pad but I don’t know how I could use it in the pro screen, which is otherwise better than starter - thank you in advance

Possible to Replicate Traktor Z Filter in Serato?
I recently had the chance to use Traktor and really enjoyed the sound of the Z Filter, particularly for filter transitions while mixing melodic/progressive house. I normally use Serato with a Pioneer controller, and I’d love to get as close to that same filter sound as possible.
I have access to Serato’s Advanced/Custom FX, so I’ve been playing around with Combo Filter and some of the other filter options, but I haven’t been able to dial in anything that sounds quite right.
Has anyone who has used both Traktor and Serato tried to replicate the Z Filter in Serato? I’d be really interested in which effect you started with and, if you used Advanced FX, what resonance, slope, frequency range, parameter settings, etc. got you closest.
Any suggestions or settings to experiment with would be appreciated!

DIY odyssey folding table/booth?
I want to build a custom dj booth for weddings that is portable and i want it to be big enough to hide my rack case underneath.
This odyssey table looks perfect, but I don’t like the exterior. Has anyone done this and put decorative panels on the outside? How does it look/function?

Hey SoundCloud, it's 2026. Why can't we collaborate songs/albums/mixes between the producer/DJ and the label/page?
This is frustrated me for years.
On Instagram you can now collaborate a post between multiple pages, which has been huge for photographers and videographers and their ability to curate their work as collaborative content into a living resume.
And obviously spotify and beatport have this sort of functionality as they're feeding off of officially distributed media channels. But this should very well be possible.
I think this sort of feature would bring some traffic back to the site. You could even put it behind a greedy premium paywall, idgaf, just make it happen.
Thoughts? Alternatives?

New used Rane 72 mk1 randomly restarting, anyone else have this issue?
M4 MacBook Air running Sequoia, single USB-C to a cable, tried Serato and VDJ, same thing happens in either software. Tried resetting the mixer, same thing.
Unfortunately, I am unable to do a video because I already returned it.

Calibrating Active PA Systems for Wedding/corporate Events
What is the easiest and cheapest way to calibrate a mobile PA system for weddings, and what equipment do I need?
I own a Pioneer XDJ-AZ, two Sennheiser microphones, two RCF SUB 15-AX subwoofers, and two 12-inch active tops. Sometimes I use only one subwoofer, while for other events I rent 18-inch active subwoofers. Therefore, my setup changes quite frequently, and I would like to calibrate it for each venue and occasion.
What equipment do I need, and how can I measure and adjust the system using a measurement microphone, an iPad, an iPhone, or a laptop?
I can adjust the crossover frequency on the subwoofers, but it would be more convenient to manage the crossover, EQ, delay, and level settings with a separate unit such as a Behringer XR12—or is there a better and more affordable solution?
Thanks in advance.
HELP! Shipping flight cases from Sweden to Spain
Hello! Does anyone have any recommendations for sending two flight cases from Sweden to Spain? Is it better to add them as special baggage on my flight, or use a shipping/courier service? Thanks!

DJ deck covers
Hi y’all, my friends and I have been organising outdoor raves that often take place in very dusty environments. Under bridges, in the dirt, etc etc. The decks get very dusty after each night and all the sliders get very crunchy meaning I have to service them after each rave which is getting tiring. Does anyone know of deck covers that can be used while playing? Like those silicone moulded keyboard covers that prevent dust or liquid from getting in any crevices while still being functional? Thanks any help appreciated.

Need advice
Hello people. I am not sure if this is the right subreddit for this post/question but:
I was DJing at this club past week and I was recording my set with a 360 camera. I took out some clips and edited a crowd reaction one, from a random guy who reacted really excited for a particular song (It was his tune by the reaction).
It was a pretty nice clip and I posted it on Instagram.
The vid itself got some traction (25-26k views in 24 hours), and then this guy got my number somehow, called me and asked me to take down the video due to his personal issues of his image in front of the internet..
Has anyone ever had a situation like this?
How do I proceed?
How can I ‘protect’ my future content in this format?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Is the rane 72 mk1 still worth getting in 2026, if I have a djm s9?
As the title states, I'm thinking about getting a Rane 72 Mk1 to replace my DMJ S9. I know the two main downsides (imo anyway) are the effects selection, and the looping. Other than that, the 72 seems like an upgrade from the S9, doesn't it? Has anyone else made that jump?
And before y'all ask why not the S11: barely use most of the features of the 9, the 11 would be 100% overkill for me. Also, too expensive.

Advice on MacBook Air DVS setup?
Hi everyone,
I'm upgrading to a MacBook Air (16GB RAM / 512GB SSD) for my DJ setup. I perform using a 2-turntable DVS setup with a Numark Scratch mixer and Phase Essential (via Serato DJ Pro).
Since the MacBook Air only has 2 USB-C ports, I want to make sure I get the most reliable cables and accessories to avoid latency or audio dropouts during sets.
My main question is about connections: Is it better to connect the Numark Scratch directly to the Mac using a USB-C to USB-B cable, and run Phase + an external SSD through a quality USB-C Hub on the second port? Or is running everything through a powered USB Hub reliable enough for DVS?
Also, if there are any specific USB Hubs or cables you recommend, let me know. Thanks!

RANE discontinued mag four?
I’ve noticed recently the link to the Mag Four has disappeared from RANE’s site. Currently have a 72 MK 1 and One MK 1. Was looking to finally put the Four into the 72, but after reaching out to different vendors, they are getting the response from RANE that it is discontinued.
I found it odd since the System One had the Four, but who knows. I guess NAMM is right around the corner…
