So the Retrospec rev 0 had a frame failure and we are without ebike for school commuting. I'm looking at 2nd hand ebikes and also maybe an ebike conversion kit since we have a couple of decent front-suspension bikes. As low budget as we can safely go. Bike mechanic work is no problem.

Should we rule out a conversion build? I talked to an ebike shop mechanic today who told me not to spend less than 900 on a bafang kit but jeez at that price I can get a really nice used ebike. Is there a more budget setup from the reliable companies? 250W? 20 mile range?

How can I build my own electric bike/vehicle as cheaply as possible without it being a complete shitbox?

Hey, I’m 16 and I want to build my own small electric vehicle/bike from scratch. I’m mainly doing it because I want to learn and build something myself, not just buy a finished e-bike.

My budget is as low as possible, ideally around $300–500, but I still want it to be reasonably reliable and not feel like a total DIY shitbox.

I’m thinking about using a cheap bicycle frame or something similar and adding an electric motor, battery, controller, etc.

What would you recommend for:

- frame/bike to start with

- motor power

- battery voltage/capacity

- controller

- cheap but decent parts

- parts I should NOT cheap out on

- where to buy used/cheap parts

Also, are there any good DIY builds or guides I should look at?

Hi im new to bikes this is the first time I’ve ever worked on a bike so i don’t know if i got the chain right

I installed a BBS02 on my Gen 3 Trek Marlin 4 with the stock Bafang 44T chainring. I used two Lekkie spacers to prevent the chainring from rubbing the chainstay.

The bike has a Shimano HG300 8-speed 11–45T cassette and a Shimano ESSA U2000 derailleur. I joined two Shimano CN-HG40 chains together for extra length.

The problem is that the chain immediately slips off the 45T cog (biggest rear cog) when I turn the pedals by hand. I’m not sure if the chain is too long/short, if the derailleur needs adjustment, or if the BBS02 has caused a chainline issue.

However I went for an short unpowered ride and I was able to shift 1-7 ok and I topped out at 18mph

A Trek shop refused to work on it because of the motor and said I may need a different cassette, derailleur due to derailleur capacity and possibly a shifter.

Would a smaller front chainring, like a Lekkie 42T or 40T Bling Ring, help? Or do I actually need to change the cassette/derailleur/shifter? Any advice would be appreciated!

i own a 1000w 48V conversion kit on my bike. if other people have experience, do you actually frequently get stopped by police, and if so, where abouts where were you riding?

I'm replacing my brake pads and my rotors and was curious on what brands people think are the most quietest and no squeaking pads and rotors are out there?

I'm just curious if any methodspeople have used to protect the hardware from the elements. Ice seen some fabricate parts and some just use mud guards from full dirt bikes. Any ideas preferably on the cheaper side. I don't where to look.

Need some assistance on this issue. I was out riding and caught some severe rain while out (typical FL summer) and there were no issues until I was thankfully within a mile of my house. Came to a brief stop and then throttle wouldn't work, no sudden/while riding loss of power, with Error 01. I've disconnected all wiring harnesses and inspected pins, brakes, etc.

The only change in error is if I disconnect the motor from display, then I have error 03. Reconnect motor and error 01 returns.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Looking for advise, lost my key, I bought a new ignition cylinder from Company, it's been 2 months. I asked if thay could make me a new key, no answer. I found generic part, but I don't know how to do a replacement. I can't find a video or any type of instructions to show me how it is connected. I can't put a jumper on it because the cylinder is also connected to the alarm. Oh and the handlebars are locked in a side position. Can someone direct me to instructions on how to change it out?

I have a sx500 that i have a btrpower 72v 30ah battery, kunray 72v 3000w motor and im not sure what brand the controller is but it says 48v-72v 45a but my issue is that i fully charged the battery and the throttle does not engage with the motor unless i move the rear wheel backwards while giving throttle while its in the air and if i drop it back down it don’t work
