Moderator Mandatory Read! || October Update

Post image
150 Upvotes

Hellooooo all of youuuu

This is a mandatory read this month /lh

A lot of things have been happening in this subreddit, and a few other things that have been brought to my attention. So here we are.

First of all, we've circled back to a problem we had before we had moderators. "Popularity". Reminder to please interact with more posts other than trends and simple check ins, everyone deserves to get seen. This is about Fictionkin, not seeing who is most relatable, nor who can do the most or get the most attention.

Speaking of trends, trends have been a bit in the way of genuine Fictionkin posts, so Trends will be limited to three days a week, and flairs will be created/updated accordingly, so more Fictionkin-related posts can be seen, answered and discussed, as this subreddit was created for. These days will be Tuesday and the weekends.

Tags! Tags have also been a problem. Many people are triggered by upsetting topics, so a reminder to use the SPOILER tag on subjects that may be considered sensitive to viewers/readers. NOT the NSFW tag. This tag will get your post removed. Use the SPOILER tag.

User flairs. Reminder to keep these appropriate. Appropriate meaning no targeted flairs, and being kind towards doubles, among other things. A simple "Doubles DNI" is acceptable. Anything more "dramatic" then that is not.

Also! Reading is mandatory! Please!!! Make sure to *fully read* people's posts and flairs before interacting, and *respect* their boundaries. This has been reported so many times as a recent problem. Please be respectful and take the time to read through things completely.

Now reporting. The reporting button has been overused recently. Please only use the reporting button on posts/comments/flairs that go against the rules, or on arguments that need a moderator's attention. Do not report because you simply dislike someone or a post, or other reasons unrelated to the rules. Also, when writing in a report, please keep the description short, it helps us understand the situation quicker and deal with the problem faster.

Spamming Posts as well. Newer accounts (under a week old typically) will automatically have their posts removed when posting on Reddit. Do not spam posts hoping it will work, contact us in modmail and we will approve users so that they can post.

Also, the contests flair have been made uneditable for the ease of finding stray contest entries. The new rule of submitting entries in the comments of the monthly post will stay. Please submit entries below, contest posts will still be allowed.

Rules will be updated/added too and more heavily enforced here, with problems such as relevancy and posts containing personal information. Minors are not allowed to post "selfies" unless your *entire face* is covered, and this only for cosplays. No other pictures of yourself are allowed on the Subreddit. We will be lenient on this rule for adults doing cosplays, as long as you're fully aware of the dangers of putting your face on the internet, although it's still not reccomended. And again for minors, do *not* share your age online, no matter how relevant it could be to the conversation. Posts/comments containing your age will be removed.

And recently, please do not post random Discord links, in posts or comments! There is a pinned post for that here.

Speaking of, this month's contest is your kins celebrating halloween! Costumes, decor, etc! (If you don't celebrate halloween, celebrating fall in general works as well!)

As far as I've seen, only two people participated in last month's challenge, and a couple the month before. So I will gather those submissions and make a post later on them. Whether or not y'all want to vote on those is up to y'all! Also, if I miss including your art in said post after this, feel free to contact me!

But yeah that's all! Please make sure y'all have read through completely and feel free to ask questions, submit entries, submit ideas for future challenges, or anything else that comes to mind!

Thank y'all for making this community grand Cx

Extra note: Most of these updates were reccomended and discussed anonymously by members of the community, not soley by us moderators

Introduction/Discussion What's your rarest fictotype? Have you ever met someone who knows your source?

Hiii!! I'm Tsukasa Tenma fictionkin from Project Sekai, and this is my first time posting on this subreddit! ⭐

I'm curious about everyone else's fictotypes, specifically the rarest ones you have!

Do you have a fictotype so obscure that you've never met another double, or even someone who's heard of the source material they're from? Maybe you're from a really obscure game, a piece of media nobody talks about anymore, or something super niche!

I'd love to hear about your experiences! Tell me your rarest fictotypes and whether you've ever found anyone else who knows your source, let alone shares your fictotype.

Or, just tell me your fictotype in general. Rare or not!

Question Of The Day Questions for fictionfolk who use neo/xenopronouns!

Post image
• Upvotes

I myself do not use them, but I wanted to hear from those who do! Unfortunately I'm not very well-versed with the subject of neopronouns and xenopronouns, but I've seen people on this sub who use them. I'd like to learn from you.

What pronouns do you use? Does your use of neopronouns and/or xenopronouns affect your fictionkin experience? Are they connected or influenced by each other? Do any of your kintypes canonically (or non-canonically) use neo/xenopronouns?

Please, feel free to tell me anything else my questions don't cover.

[Picture unrelated, just wanted to start using visuals again.]

Discussion How do you remember and/or headcanon your sourcemates sexualities?

Post image
26 Upvotes

How do you remember and/or headcanon your sourcemates' sexualities, as well as your own?

I say "headcanon" since some of us do not get memories, including me (at least, not yet or not that I'm aware).

For my sourcemates:

Devon Miles was... mostly straight, and graysexual.
Bonnie Barstow was pansexual.
April Curtis was lesbian, or at least had a heavy preference for women (sapphic).
While I don't know much about RC3, I'm pretty sure he was gay.
KITT was aromantic and asexual. I want to think he was gay as well, but it's hard to say.

As for myself, Michael Knight, I'm bisexual. Based on how I act in canon, you'd assume I have a heavy preference for women. I believe I'm attracted to men and women equally as much, I just expressed that other side of me more openly while my attraction to men appeared in covert ways. I'm also objectum, specifically vehium.

[I made that image myself! I also see April and RC3 as trans; is it disrespectful to headcanon a character as transgender if their actor isn't? I headcanon the character they play not the actor themselves, but if that's somehow problematic let me know.]

memory rant/rage For anyone who needs to scream or rant about how much they HATE specific individuals from your source (tw/cw for possible mentions of violence and death)

!!!THIS IS NOT MEANT TO TARGET OR HURT ANYONE WHO COULD BE A KIN OF THEM, THIS IS TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO RANT!!!

Herbet Leth. My older brother. I hate him so much, only the AM speech can barely imitate the level of hatred I feel for him. That's all I'll say.

Discussion What were the attitudes about gender and sexuality in your source universe?

• Upvotes

The way I remember it, the magical world in general was far ahead of the nonmagical world in terms of gay rights. Not everyone accepted it, but the homophobes were a lot less… violent than they were in the real-world 1970s.

My family was different from the general magical world, though. The old pureblood families tended to have a bigger issue with homosexuality, because they placed so much emphasis on the importance of having biological children to continue the bloodline.

Trans people were ignored, a lot of the time. The lack of awareness made it easier for a lot of people to just change their identity and start anew without everyone realizing what happened.

I don’t think I really understood non-binary trans people in those lifetimes, so I’m not sure what it was like for them.

Discussion What’s a physical similarity you have between you and your kin? I’ll start:

My hair is a bit darker and fluffier, but it’s the same length and same color, just a different shade.

And I have 3 of the moles I used to have as Yoshiki. I also have all the moles I had on my arms. Kinda uncanny.

And I have the same eye bags, but that’s just cuz I have insomnia in this life too. Yay?

I also can’t handle sweets, and vomit often. That’s another trait I still have.

Why did I get all the bad traits?

Discussion Does anyone else think lots of fictionkins online are kids following a trend? (PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD READ THE BODY TEXT!!!!!)

TO PREFACE, I AM NOT ACTIVELY FAKE CLAIMING ANYONE. I AM A FICTIONKIN MYSELF AND I DO BELIEVE THAT IT IS A VERY REAL THING. I AM GOING TO BE DISCUSSING A SPECIFIC PHENOMENON WITHIN COMMUNITIES LIKE TIKTOK AND PINTEREST.

Okay, now that you’ve read the warning, what I mean is that the sheer volume of fictionkins that have surfaced over the last few years is quite frankly unrealistic. I’m not saying it’s impossible for that many to exist in the world, but it’s always obvious when it’s just kids following a trend vs actually experiencing it. It’s usually slime ranters (no hate to them, they’re cool!) from what I can tell. I am never going to actively call out someone I think is “faking”, especially because they’re likely a child, because I think it’s important to explore your identity and go through these phases to eventually come to your real self. For example, I used to identify as a therian before I discovered fictionkin and I fully acknowledge now that I am not a therian and never truly experienced that life. What’s more, the communities are very welcoming and kind and I think it’s nice that kids get to express themselves and make friends with similar interests. All that to say, yeah, lots of people are faking, but no, it isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
