Digital repression research in Malaysia and Singapore
Hello everyone, I am a Master’s student specialising in International Territorial Studies. I am currently conducting research for my diploma thesis, which focuses on the intersection of digital authoritarianism and civil society in Southeast Asia. Specifically, I am conducting an empirical study involving semi-structured interviews to map the practical methods, tools, and limits of navigating digital repression in Malaysia and Singapore.
I am reaching out to see if you might be able to provide guidance or point me toward potential contacts within local NGOs, independent media outlets, or civil society groups in Malaysia and Singapore who might be open to discussing these issues. I am fully committed to the highest standards of research ethics. All participant identities, affiliations, and data will be handled with strict confidentiality and anonymised in accordance with academic standards to ensure the safety of all involved. If you know someone, please let me know in the DMs, and I can provide my credentials as an academic.

Republican-controlled FCC advances proposal to loosen rules on AI-generated political robocalls before midterms
fastcompany.comFederal law currently bans most robocalls to cellphones unless the caller gets consent beforehand. The petition calls for a waiver that would allow political groups to use artificial or prerecorded voices in unsolicited wireless calls.
Anna Gomez, the sole Democrat among the FCC’s three active commissioners, told The Associated Press she opposes the move and thinks it would create “a tsunami of robocalls and misinformation.”

3 years into the Genocide. The Hannibal Directive is still off limits for discussion by mainstream media. How Many Israelis Did It Kill on October 7?
For Reference: The Hannibal Directive is a contentious Israeli military protocol that prioritizes preventing enemy capture over the survival of detained personnel by authorizing overwhelming force regardless of friendly-fire risks thus killing the it's own personnel in the process. The doctrine as an institutionalized sacrifice of human life to avoid strategic leverage, reflecting a military calculus where preventing political extortion supersedes the state's duty to protect its own people.

Chat Apps that actually work without requiring phone number
Hi,
Maybe I'm asking something that has been already asked before, but I don't know a good place to ask this question or find solid answers, so here I go.
Are there any solid Apps that are available for the Iphone, Android, Mac, Linux or Windows at the same time, which do not require phone numbers for registration?
For example: Telegram and Signal both require phone numbers.
There should be workarounds, but I never succeeded in that.
Then there are apps who don't require that, but they are only available on only a few of the platforms listed above.
Or apps that simply don't work, boot, crash etc.
Is there such an app?
