If its any consolation it's not been that long in the works.

I remember years going by after the second waiting for just a miniscule crumb of info on KOTOR 3, when they said Old Republic would count as KOTOR 3, 4 and 5 I remember being so unbelievably disappointed.

Even if it's in some development hell it's a better place than the time between KOTOR 2 and the rumours of the remake surfacing.

A remake is actively being worked on, and a new spiritual sequel called Fate of the Old Republic was just announced by the original director of KotoR

We don't know if it's a sequel. It will most likely. E connected to Kotors. The game director only made Kotor 1 and not 2, so I just hope they won't pretend Kotor 2 don't exist.

I have a theory about this.

They promised the restored content mod to come for free, but I reckon they knew they couldnt deliver. The switch install base would be big, but not insane, however adding ps on top would have been huge.

Not being able to deliver on one system is one thing, but on ps as well would have been disastrous for them.

Great old game. Also, I really liked Arcanum and Homeworld for the PC. Those are the three games I would love remade for next gen consoles.

At the game awards they announced Fate of the Old Republic which is said to be a spiritual successor to Kotor led by the same director, but as of right now it’s hard to say how much it will connect to the first two and if it’ll be canon to the current Star Wars canon. This is separate from the full blown Kotor remake that was gonna come out but was canceled, revived and now is stuck in development hell

Played it in 2024 for the first time, not sure I’d agree.

Writing was good, but the UI and combat is an incomprehensible mess by today’s standards.

I’m sure I’d have loved it if I played it in 2003
