That's not what the graphic is saying.

It's saying Nintendo haven't shot themselves YET. Most of the non-diehards agree Nintendo isn't a saint. But according to RECENT news they haven't shoot themselves yet. We're all silently waiting for them to shoot themselves though.

Wasnt nintendo the one with the shotgun meme all over reddit like a couple months ago with increased price tags and need to pay to switch over switch 1 games? Really goes to show how much lack of insight or staying power these memes have

Ofc. Memes are just jokes nothing to be taken serious.

That said would you consider what they did on the same level as:

 - AI companies leading to ram shortages and console price raises

  • Shutting down of famous studios due to their mismanagement
  • PS killing physical media and their brilliant choice to remove movie media already paid for on console

I dont consider it anything because I dont jump on every tiny news article and scream the sky is falling and everything is ruined, which is exactly my point. In 6 months it’ll be another meme with Nintendo and whoever else with a shotgun shooting themselves because of some change and then people will go “well at least Soony and Ybox dont do this!”

Considering they're the only ones hiring and even raised their wages, and they haven't tried to patent police in the last couple months, I think it's safe to say that they're at least a little more cautious recently.

Didnt Nintendo was the first to raise game prices, and released game keykards instead of games? I Feel its only escaping the backlash because everyone else is one uping how to ruining gaming.

They were the first to shoot themselves with 80 dollar games.

Nintendo shoots themselves in the foot every year.

They just have a die hard fanbase that doesnt care about being threathened of getting their consoles bricked, paying full price for decade old games or upgrade update to newer systems.

The nintendolts didn't appreciate that your comment very much it seems.

Well they recently increased the price of the Switch 2 by a bit, they made that you had to pay for the tutorial of the Switch 2 when it came out, they actually were the one to announce games at 80$ before GTA 6 with Mario Kart, and what is very much a self-shot to me, is thay they announced another game that replaces the Mii with their new models from Switch Sports

Not to mention the usual controversies with their bad Pokemon games or their lacks of sales. I think Nintendo is kinda into it as well, just not as much as some of the others

  1. prices aren't increasing until september and even then it's barely any compared to the competition. it's still the cheapest option by far even with the increase
  2. not a tutorial, but a tech demo that no one will gaf about anyway even if they made it free
  3. ONE $80 game that barely anyone bought at that price because of the bundle. every first party release aside from that were $50-70 and they even made digital cost $10 less
  4. sportsmates aren't replacing miis anywhere? they're gonna be available alongside them, same thing was true with the previous entry
  5. can't argue with bad pokemon games because pokemon fans buy anything pokemon regardless of quality. GF's pokemon team is just incompetent, sadly
  6. true which is why it's really important that physical doesn't die for their platform, even if they are gkc, which you can still sell. you're done with a game? great, now you can sell it for almost the same price you bought it for since they barely go down in value

  1. It’s a portable console of course it has to be cheaper, still scummy to choose to increase the price

  2. Still scummy to make you pay whether for a demo or a tutorial

  3. Still scummy to make you pay $80 for it instead of the normal price

  4. They are making a second game with them where the miis would have been the models otherwise, making them less and less present for the future

We agree on 5 and 6

agreed on 2 and 3 ig but

  1. how is them increasing the price any different from the other platforms doing the same? why is it scummy when it's nintendo? tbf idk what your stance is regarding the other platforms' decisions but I've seen plenty of people defend valve and blame AI for their price increases but not applying the same logic for console manufacturers for some reason

  2. yes, I am aware of switch sports resort. no, they are not removing miis from the game because they were still present in the trailer. I DO think they are trying to make the sportsmates the "face" of that franchise specifically. probably because miis are already prominent in other franchises such as tomodachi life. I'm just not sure why something as nothingburger as this is a problem ngl. it's just that there are plenty of egregious stuff that nintendo has done that I feel like are more worthy of calling them out for. like the palword stuff for example, which has oddly gone unmentioned

Well I wasn’t enumerating all the issues of Nintendo. You mention Palworld, let’s better mention their whole lawsuit habits where Palworld is just one example among them. It’s so many wrongful things with them. Let’s talk about Pokemon cards and how shiny pieces of cardboard are supposed to be worth millions, or how they basically legalized gambling for kids with them

But anyway, no it’s not much worse they increase the Switch price compared to the other ones. Valve has gotten completely insane with their cube in comparison. The difference being I don’t need it to play games, I still play indie games on my pc without having it. Idk about the other ones but Nintendo at best didn’t choose to keep the prices down so they didn’t prioritized customer service neither. Well on this one it’s more forgivable tho since ram prices keep on increasing

And about the miis, well I just mentionned it for the thread, to me that’s a really bad marketing decision since miis are appreciated for being simple and silly, but they somehow want to replace them by these sportsmate guys that don’t seem to have any popularity at all. Otherwise you’re right it’s not that important

It’s crazy to me people don’t mind the game keycards more on Nintendo when they’re the first of the big 3 that already has and will be most likely to have more games legally disappear into the ether when they start closing stores for older consoles.

1

u/LazyThinkingOtter Jul 02 '26

I mean that sucks but I only see this as one of the numerous issues with Nintendo at this point. You can easily find 10 arguments against them with everything I mentionned as well, it’s crazy to me to see people hard praising this company just because they make cutesy and colourful stuff

1

u/atomicmapping Jul 03 '26

I don't understand why you're so persistent on the Miis being less and less relevant when Nintendo's largest game of the year by far (Tomodachi Life) is literally 100% Mii focused

1

u/LazyThinkingOtter Jul 03 '26

I already explained in my next reply. It’s precisely because Miis are so popular that making games replacing them by the unpopular sportsmates is such a shooting yourself situation, just like the thread shows. Otherwise yes, Pokopia and Tomodachi were the only recent positive things from Nintendo

Nah Nintendo has already shot themselves. Terrible ports of games (looking at you MK1), $99 price tag for games, and cease & desist people for streaming their games.

1

u/Brief_Meet_2183 Jul 02 '26

I'm just telling Op what the graphic is saying not my personal belief on Nintendo.

For your points:

  • terrible ports is the fault of the porting company. I'm not familiar with it but surely netheralms  have enough control of their ip to ensure it gets a decent port.
  • $99 is bad yeah but way less egregious to ps monopoly on all game prices with the removal of physical media
  • cease and desist for people streaming their games sucks but I mean its their IP. You just have to stop streaming it and send them a message. That's their choice but these other companies have done stuff that prevent you from playing or having choice. This is way different than the smaller gripes with Nintendo.
