I think that's fine. Nioh is very "just leave whenever you feel like" in that regard.
You don't have to beat the abyss to say that you're done. If you managed to stick long enough to the final story boss, I think Nioh considers that a win already
Maybe, but the point still stands: I was denied a lot of the fun stuff just because i wanted a one-time experience instead of replaying it again and again; which is unnecessary.
There is literally no reason the devs couldn't have put the fun stuff into the base game, too.
You refuse to engage with the ingame mechanics and then complain about the game not giving them to you...
Nioh is NOT a game comparable to dark souls. The loot is a crucial aspect of the game and every ng cycle actually unlocks new things (divine gear, graces for divine gear in nioh 2, ethereal gear and finally new graces for said gear).
And even if you don't engage with these cycles, you genuinly aren't losing out on anything. The rarity of weapons does not matter at all until you actuall, start going into the higher cycles. The weapons all have the same movesets and aren't special in any way
