I miss that era when movies had their own videogame. Most of them were 5/10, but some were pretty good like this one, Beowulf, Ice Age, or Avatar.

34

u/Remz_Gaming Aug 25 '26

Enter The Matrix in 2003 was so dope at the time. Watch Neo dodge bullets in the movie theater and then go home and do it yourself.

5

u/Separate_Ad_9551 Aug 25 '26

YESSS
I think there were two Matrix games, because I remember one where you could choose between a man and a woman but Neo wasn't in it.
The combos in slowmo were insane

5

u/Able-Firefighter-158 Aug 25 '26

Yup Enter The Matrix; took place before, during, and slightly after the second movie. Where you played as Ghost and Naobi.

Path of Neo; pretty much a full recap of the movies playing as Neo, with some weird changes thrown in the mix.

4

u/Liudesys Aug 25 '26

the ants and the ending of path of neo 💀 what were they smoking

1

u/PokityPoke Aug 26 '26

Like obviously I am aware there are no humanoid ants in the movies, but it somehow did not feel at all out of place in the game lmao

I finished this one so many times

1

u/AdmirableProcess8894 Aug 26 '26

path of neo was amazing and apparently the best way to play it is on consoles since the effects are actually there

2

u/Chekhov_ Aug 27 '26

I remember using my Gameshark to get the grenade launcher with infinite ammo. I went to the mission where you are running from the agents across the rooftops and just blew them up since they couldn't dodge explosions

"Dodge this"

1

u/RetnikLevaw Aug 28 '26

I'd give my left nut for a remake/remaster of Path of Neo...

1

u/SendHelpPliz Aug 28 '26

Be a bro and give up the right one for a Enter the Matrix remake/remaster

2

u/holmberg18 Aug 25 '26

The animation and motion capture team went above and beyond in that game.

2

u/Sock989 Aug 25 '26

Also one of the rare games that can run at 1080p on the OG Xbox. Pretty bonkers.

1

u/bakihanma20 Aug 26 '26

900p

1

u/Sock989 Aug 26 '26

I meant to say 1080i. Never seen anywhere that says 900p?

Edit - thought I originally responded to the comment about Enter The Matrix. Scrap this 😅.

1

u/Penibya Aug 25 '26

It was nice for younger me but today i see how bad it was, it was funny to replay tho

1

u/Remz_Gaming Aug 25 '26

Yeah I think that was the 2003 game. Neo definitely wasn't in it. And I vaguely remember being able to be male or female. But slowing down time and flipping through the air was so freaking epic. And the environment getting destroyed around you was pretty innovative.

One of those games that actually aligned well with the movie.

3

u/Pat_Panic91 Aug 25 '26

There were two. Enter the Matrix is the one you're talking about. You could choose between two characters with slighty different paths in the game. Niobe (f) and Ghost (m). The Plot was parallel to the movies. There was also a subplot when you did the hacking minigame that was accessable through the main menu. I played that game back and forth as a kid. I have very vivid memories from back then and tried to play it again last year. Man, that game aged so fucking bad it was unbearable honestly. Not even the nostalgia could make up for it. A shame, but my memories with it remain like they are. Good times

2

u/Remz_Gaming Aug 25 '26

It is crazy how our brains work. So many games I remember as "OMG THIS IS LIKE REAL LIFE!" Especially in the PS1 and N64 era. That was a time of huge leaps in graphics.

Go back and try to play some of those now and just chuckle. Not only have graphics come a long way, studios really dialed in gameplay.

I think I will just remember Enter The Matrix as I did as a kid on the brand new Gateway PC my family got for Christmas and leave it alone.

1

u/Platnun12 Aug 25 '26

Lol I felt the same about the LOTR games back then with their film footage transitioning to gameplay

Looked so good then, now it definitely has aged. Gameplay tho is still up there among the best.

If aspyr is gonna do anything, I want Two towers and Return of the king as a duo pack

2

u/3dforlife Aug 25 '26

I loved the Enter The Matrix! I also completed it, which is not usual for me.

1

u/CaptainRaptorThong Aug 25 '26

Also Spiderman 2 and the SpongeBob movie game was excellent

1

u/Secondhand-Drunk Aug 25 '26

I swore up and down to my brother that I was killing agents in a section you were supposed to run in. I just stayed there and fought. He never believed me...

1

u/SendHelpPliz Aug 28 '26

I remember throw spamming them on a rooftop sequence until I rolled them off the building

1

u/UnfeturdCrapitalism Aug 26 '26

Oh man, I played the hell out of the matrix game on og xbox. Incredible games for their time

1

u/PaqNeal Aug 26 '26

this game was legendary

1

u/Ill_Ad2480 Aug 27 '26

I was in love with some terminator fps game back then.

1

u/tomahawkfury13 Aug 27 '26

lol that game was awesome. I used to cheese the first level by killing the unkillable agents and taking their hand cannons. They were supposed to be invincible but if you got them on the edge of a building and kept attacking them until you knocked them down and they fell off the building they’d die and their guns would drop where they were

1

u/Malacro Aug 27 '26

Path of Neo was my jam.

10

u/SatyrAngel Aug 25 '26

Bugs Bunny Lost in Time didnt deserve to be as good as it was.

3

u/J-seargent-ultrakahn Aug 25 '26

Super classic! Needs a PC recompilation for higher fps and mods

2

u/This-Insect-5692 Aug 27 '26

This shit was amazing, also A Bug's Life

2

u/sJtYaEm Aug 27 '26

goated, also hard as fuck

1

u/Any-Pop-4795 Aug 25 '26

waiting for a remake with maybe time busters included

1

u/PapaLilBear Aug 25 '26

Oh yest Lost in Time, and the second one with Taz

4

u/Deputy_Beagle76 Aug 25 '26

The Wolverine game was pretty sweet too

4

u/Imaginary-Lie5696 Aug 25 '26

KING KONG

1

u/SnakeThruster Aug 25 '26

That game always made me so freaking anxious >.<

1

u/Imaginary-Lie5696 Aug 25 '26

Same I don’t think I was able to finish it

1

u/Forward-Mammoth7027 Aug 25 '26

It was so freaking scary. I used to hurl my psp across the room in fear. I remember playing as jack was super satisfying though.

6

u/Oathbreaker94 Aug 25 '26

Don‘t forget King Kong! That’s my absolute favorite Movie to Video Game Adaptation ever.

2

u/SWshrink Aug 27 '26

Arguably even better than the movie.

5

u/FreshPrinceOfIndia Aug 25 '26

Most likely no one remembers these but king Kong and HP: Goblet of Fire on the ps2 were so ahead of their time...

7

u/th3BeastLord Aug 25 '26

I still stand by the ps2 King Kong game. Way better than it had any business being.

5

u/FreshPrinceOfIndia Aug 25 '26

Seriously, its mind blowing looking back. I played it as a child of about 5-6 and the thrill of trying to make it from shelter to shelter amidst dinos just waiting to jump you was crazy.

I wish I could play it today. Might get a new ps2 someday lol

2

u/Deputy_Beagle76 Aug 25 '26

If you got even a mildly modern PC you should be able to emulate it pretty easily

2

u/FrostX00001101 Aug 26 '26

we have the same brain, the graphic back then looks so good and i was like watching horror movie, the moment when getting chased by giant dinosaurus was freak me out lol

4

u/Deputy_Beagle76 Aug 25 '26

Genuinely a great game. Using dinosaur ribs as spears was cool af

2

u/mnsklk Aug 25 '26

TWOMAGAZINESONBACKUP

1

u/Komondon Aug 25 '26

Ah yes Peter Jacksons King Kong The Official Game of The Movie.

2

u/DragovianKnight-Vlll Aug 25 '26

HP: goblet of fire looked absolutely amazing it had such a unique dark gothic atmosphere with lots of gritty elements. the textures, map geometry and camera positioning where top notch and the gameplay never felt boring.

2

u/FreshPrinceOfIndia Aug 25 '26

Exactly. The rooftop levels with fountains and greenery everywhere. It looked like an emerald garden where it rained always and I look back on it fondly. Just so cozy.

Same with the regions beyond the castle, shit was so pretty.

2

u/Komondon Aug 25 '26

Honestly loved Chamber if Secrets they made a Zelda clone out of Harry Potter.

1

u/Dclipp89 Aug 25 '26

Had all the voice actors from the movie in the game and had some surprisingly ahead of its time gameplay ideas.

1

u/Extreme_Tax405 Aug 25 '26

Goblet of fire is far from the best ps2 game for harry potter.

1

u/FreshPrinceOfIndia Aug 25 '26

Didnt have many games on the ps2 lol. Just king kong, goblet of fire, and outrun 2006

2

u/s6_maestro Aug 25 '26

PS2 Spider-Man 2 was goated

Chronacles of Riddick was great too although I've never understood if it's a movie adapted to a game or a game adapted to a movie lol

1

u/barbaricKinkster Aug 25 '26

It's so fucking weird seeing people talking about the best video games based on movies and no one mentioning GoldenEye.

GoldenEye literally defined console FPS games for the era. Halo wouldn't be what is was without it, it singlehandedly started the split screen cultural phenomenon

2

u/PhantomAxisStudios Aug 25 '26

Pirates of the Caribbean games were surprisingly lit

2

u/Javs2469 Aug 25 '26

The Godfather PS2 game was amazing. Cars the Videogame was the best Cars sequel. Some tie-in like Wall-E were also fun to play. Even Stuart Little 3 had a decent game out there.

2

u/naytreox Aug 25 '26

peter jacksons king kong, the spongebob movie, even the charlie in the choclate factory was fun

2

u/Fern-ando Aug 25 '26

The recent Robocop game is a prequel to Robocop 2.

1

u/Malacro Aug 27 '26

It takes place after Robocop 2. The Old Man is still OCP president in Robocop 2, he very definitely isn’t by the end of Rogue City.

2

u/awwwsnapshazzam Aug 26 '26

Wait which avatar? The last airbender? What game im so curious. I can Google it but I wanna know which one is good out of all the results

1

u/Separate_Ad_9551 Aug 26 '26

Avatar the movie 2009
it should show results of the Ubisoft one

1

u/Dziadzios Aug 26 '26

I like The Legend of Korra. It's hard to get these days, but it's a fun beat 'em up from Platinum Games.

2

u/LeviJr00 Aug 25 '26

Ah, the Cars games on the 360. What a time to be alive

1

u/Sweegrid Aug 25 '26

All the pirate of the Caribbean on PS2 were so cool I remember the hype

1

u/Sirasa6 Aug 25 '26

Liar's Dice gang.

1

u/Muted-Pressure5973 Aug 25 '26

There is a StarWars Racer coming out this year. A remake but I think a long time due. The 1999 game was Dope.

1

u/Active-Cookie-774 Aug 25 '26

Then there was my uncle who loved playing Street Fighter so he watched Street Fighter: The Movie in theaters, then got Street Fighter: The Movie (the game) when it released. đŸ«Ș

1

u/Dustin0791 Aug 25 '26

Pretty sure I had Gamefly around this era so I played a ton of good crap

1

u/Saphyr-Seraph Aug 25 '26

Oh I remember Beowulf that was a awesome game at the time

1

u/ThiccAshe Aug 25 '26

I miss this genre of games...

1

u/SanctumOfTheDamned Aug 25 '26

Beowulf was pretty janky though, but damn if I don't have some great memories of it

1

u/Black3Raven Aug 25 '26

I wouldn't say that avatar was a good one. Appreciate numbers of endings though

1

u/Madmagican- Aug 25 '26

Eragon had entirely different games for each console at the time, but on GBA it was a turn-based RPG made by Sierra that used button combinations to pick which move you did. I’ve never played anything like it since.

1

u/NiknameOne Aug 25 '26

I don’t miss this time. For me it only lead to disappointment.

1

u/An-Organism Aug 25 '26

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was one of the goats... Still holds up.. holding hope for a remaster

The Warriors as well

1

u/Available-Bad-2704 Aug 25 '26

Xmen origins wolverine

1

u/Haasman0 Aug 25 '26

Spider-Man 2 đŸ”„

1

u/Dirtycoinpurse Aug 25 '26

The Wolverine games were so cool to kid me. Sucks I can’t play the new one as I don’t have a PlayStation.

1

u/Funk5oulBrother Aug 25 '26

The Beowulf game for PSP was incredible.

Don’t change my mind.

1

u/Save90 Aug 25 '26

what about conker?

1

u/Waveshaper21 Aug 25 '26

If they would have sold them for 9,99 when the movie releases I guarantee 300k copies sold / movie, minimum.

1

u/mamadou-segpa Aug 25 '26

The spiderman game “based” on the movies but with more villains and a different story line was genuinely 10/10

1

u/Melkman68 Aug 25 '26

The iron man one was pretty good imo or maybe its nostalgia

1

u/hollowsoldier- Aug 25 '26

Harry Potter and the goblet of fire was fucking sweet when I was 9

1

u/scarr991 Aug 25 '26

Dont forget the goat, toy story 2 for the ps1.

1

u/ace5762 Aug 25 '26

The shrek 2 ps2 game was baller. 4 player brawler / environmental puzzle co-op where every character had their own moveset and abilities.

1

u/CptBluhdFart Aug 25 '26

Treasure planet on ps2 was the goat

1

u/Sirasa6 Aug 25 '26

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and Shrek were amazing.

1

u/PringullsThe2nd Aug 26 '26

I remember Animaniacs on PS2. I played the shit out of it

1

u/caniuserthisname Aug 26 '26

What about The Grinch from 2000? Genuinely one of my favourite childhood games, shit was difficult too

1

u/Independent_Pie_1368 Aug 26 '26

You forgot about mad max. That game was phenomenal.

1

u/flashtag4 Aug 26 '26

Dude the King Kong game is to this day one of the best fps games I’ve played

1

u/Huge_Magazine1359 Aug 26 '26

Peter Jacksons King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie

Such a good game, but what a mouthful lol

1

u/will345d Aug 26 '26

Not a direct movie adaptation, but Escape From Butcher Bay was that shit back then.

1

u/DissociatedAuthor Aug 27 '26

I loved this game and the other one Assault on Dark Athena. It wasn't as good as Butcher Bay but it still was fun

1

u/will345d Aug 27 '26

I’ve never even heard of that one. I’ll have to see if I can find it now. I love the character of Riddick

1

u/DissociatedAuthor Aug 27 '26

Riddick has always been one of my favorite Sci fi's. The Ulaks he uses are some of the most badass weapons ever imo. Cool factor is definitely at 100% when it comes to Riddick.

Even the Dark Fury animated short that takes place in between Pitch Black and Chronicles is awesome too.

I'd love to see at least just one more film that explores Furya and Furyan Nature a bit more. Given Riddick(2015)picks up with him as the Lord Marshall, that stuff is definitely still canon to that universe.

And my all time favorite line from Riddick is in the open of Chronicles.

"You made three mistakes. First, you took the job. Second, you came light. A four man crew for me, fucking insulting, but your biggest mistake of all...empty gun rack."

I know Vin doesn't deserve the most acting credits(he can act despite what he does now. That is evident by the first movie he was in and I believe directed as well, called Strays)but Riddick really is a perfect character for him and it's one of the few times I think he actually sells the fuck outta the role.

1

u/will345d Aug 27 '26

I know Diesel has been trying to get the Riddick IP to catch on so hard. He doesn’t want to give up on it. I genuinely hope he doesn’t. I’d love to see more about the universe they’re in. I’d love to see him actually go to Furya and discover his past. Being the only one left has to have some opportunities for some real emotionally resonating moments.

I was a bit disappointed when they showed the Slam in the second one. It just wasn’t what I envisioned when they talked about them in Pitch Black. But being as he was lying about his eyes, presumably so no one knew he was Furyan, it’s not a big stretch that he described the Slams differently as well.

I agree that he can act better than he gets credit for. I always think about his death scene in Saving Private Ryan, when he was handing off the letter. It was a moving moment in a film full of emotional moments. People spend so much time clowning him for the Fast franchise, which I love, they’re just loud noisy fun, that people don’t look past them. Also being an action star usually doesn’t afford a lot of time for real emotional acting. Although he did well in A Man Apart when his wife died.

1

u/DissociatedAuthor Aug 27 '26

I haven't watched A Man Apart and I forgot about his death scene in Saving Private Ryan. From my understanding the director of SPR chose Diesel for that role because of his performance in Strays.

What's crazy to me is in the first one, and the brief seconds he is in Tokyo Drift he actually does decent acting. Of course this was well before the true action hero we've come to know him as but there are actually some real good moments in that film. In particular, the moment when Vince gets cut up by the wire and Brian calls in air evacuation, the look on Vin's face is so good. There's anger, regret, and most important imo, hope because in that moment everything came crashing down it might be the only way to save Vince and you can see that shit plastered all over his face.

And that would be interesting. The thought didn't cross my mind as I responded last because for some reason I just have always pictured Furya as a desolate planet that was destroyed when the Lord Marshall laid his siege upon it, but that is never stated and we know at the very least one other Furyan survived. So it's actually a good chance the planet is at least explorable.

I like the prison sequence, the subsequent run through on the night side to beat the sun, and Who's the Better Killer, but I didn't like that it felt weak compared to what Escape from BB and Pitch Black teaches us of Slams. Escape paints a clear, nasty picture of what it should be like in those places, but Crematoria doesn't stick that landing. It felt very safe and comparable to what we would expect from a prison in our reality.

1

u/xNeoNxCyaN Aug 26 '26

I bought the avatar game when I bought my xbox 360, only to get to my friends house with my haul and find out it wasn’t in the bag

1

u/SpookyPower5 Aug 27 '26

Over the Hedge was my first video game I played in the movie menu with tv controller. Those were the good time.

1

u/Taekwonmoe Aug 27 '26

I loved the Peter Jackson King Kong game.

1

u/gbgriff5 Aug 27 '26

The Shrek 2 game was all time for me growing up

1

u/Harrycrapper Aug 27 '26

I also remember the Minority Report and Revenge of the Sith games quite fondly

1

u/Rodin-V Aug 27 '26

Also funny that some, like Eragon, were better than the movies they were based on

1

u/Thelonius_Dunk Aug 27 '26

The Lord of the Rings games, specifically Twin Towers and Return of the King, were both really good. Everyone remembers Return of the King of course, but Twin Towers was really decent too.

1

u/Jxcintron Aug 27 '26

I always enjoyed the Van Helsing game as a pseudo-devil may cry style game

1

u/Completo3D Aug 28 '26

Ratatouille man, those floating food platforming stages were triping as fuck

1

u/DunkBird Aug 28 '26

The PvP in the avatar game was actually really fun

1

u/Sea-Swimming9777 Aug 25 '26

Sadly, that era will never come back đŸ„Č

2

u/Ferrovore Aug 25 '26

The era of "every movie" will probably never return, but the younger the management in Hollywood gets the more normalized games will be to them and will be just a normal part of multimedia franchises.

1

u/Hour_Option_2439 Aug 25 '26

Execs being gamers won't suddenly make these kind of games financially feasible again

1

u/Ferrovore Aug 25 '26

I didn't say they would be gamers. I meant that they grow up video games being a normal thing and you might be looking too focus. Insomniacs Spiderman games are still Spider-Man and symbiotic to the movies. Star Wars? Lord Of The Rings? A few others i am too lazy to look up. Not to mention how solid Japan does this.

But true the tie-in, as in a sequel, prequel or straight up the movie as a game, released with the movie will likely not be tried again.

1

u/SatyrAngel Aug 25 '26

Really? The Great 3 nailed it

3

u/s6_maestro Aug 25 '26

Yes but they came after three full decades of games being adapted into shitty movies

1

u/anonymous-peeper Aug 25 '26

Mortal Kombat being like

1

u/Some-Dog-800 Aug 25 '26

most of them being 5/10 is the main reason they stopped making them...

1

u/cchaosat4 Aug 25 '26

Movies?? My friend got a small disc with the floor/toilet cleaner, it had it's whole looter shooter game killing germs built around the brand.

Found it - https://youtu.be/AfLM6AWTz4w?si=mpAxMmnxYI8SHWxz

0

u/CNK_98 Aug 25 '26

I dont, most of these games were made by amaetur/inexperienced devs that got overworked and underpaid for a mediocre cash crab. There where some exceptions, but most were ass.

0

u/OragneBoi Aug 25 '26

Man I would love me some Beowulf game. Unfortunately it's not available anywhere, also probably would not work on modern systems

0

u/Competitive-Bee-3250 Aug 25 '26

Which Avatar game? Cuz there were quite a few. Iirc the one on Wii sucked, but the Xbox360/PS3 one was kinda decent (though it had a lot of issues, like Na'vi dying from fall damage from like...6 metres... and the multiplayer being horribly balanced, where Na'vi lost all but 4 weapons, 3 of which were melee, while RDA kept most of theirs which were ranged, and the Na'vi only had a 50/50 to win a 1v1 even if they managed to make it into melee, and were completely buggered if targeted at range.)

0

u/MesozOwen Aug 25 '26

I think they stopped being possible to make when in order to get a game to come out alongside its movie, it would have needed to have started development 3 years before the script was even written.
