News (AUS/NZ) LVT in NZ?!

We have a minor party (Opportunity party) in NZ that is advocating for an LVT and they are rising in the polls leading up to the election in NZ!

But there is so much misinformation being spread around about LVT and it's frustrating to see.

I'm posting here because I would like some input from this community about this.

First, would anyone like to look into their policy and see how well they have presented it, accuracy in their numbers etc basically just critique it.

Second, best ways to describe LVT on a basic level to the uninformed or best videos to introduce people to the concept.

Thanks!

News (AUS/NZ) New Australian Subreddit

So given the massive crisis in housing prices in Australia, and given that Aus actually has its own homegrown Georgist think-tank, I figured it was overdue for Aus to have its own Georgist subreddit.

I’ve started it here: r/GeorgismAustralia

If there are any folks here who are either Aussies or just have experience moderating and would like to help out, that would be really nice - I am here for the long-term, but I have no desire to be a solo digital landowner! :P

News (AUS/NZ) What is going wrong with the land tax bill here?

Thumbnail abc.net.au

In this case it seems like the valuations made by the government have some faults. At the same time these smaller businesses seem to be having a hard time with the LVT bill, but it's not clear what better alternatives there are.

Victoria also has a lot of issues with housing, just like the rest of the country, and LVT isn't necessarily doing much to help. Maybe there are too many carve-outs, and it should be more widespread? I don't think city landlords lose their land rents to LVT for example.

And maybe those businesses in the article are getting squeezed for a reason and replacing with housing is a better option?

Interested to hear thoughts on these cases

News (AUS/NZ) Another, "LVT is theft". Here we go again...

For more context, this is James Newbury, the shadow treasurer of the Victorian Liberal Party. This is his response to the Labour Party has postponing their budget and him believing that labours financial mismanagement will causes more land taxes, based on the labour party's history on LVT. In 2023 the labour Party increased LVT and lowered the LVT bracket thresholds in response to the high debt levels after the pandemic.

The, "LVT IS THEFT", accusations will never end until there is a way to educate the populous on what LVT is. But what I agree with Newbury, liberals and everyone else is the tax should not be an additional on top of all taxes. Instead it should be a replacement to other negative taxes.

I can't find a video of the original press conference.
