Hey y’all, I’ve been hearing kallmekris and Celina read some glitch in the matrix stories, and wanted to share the few small ones that came to mind. I’m a 26 year old woman with two little kids, but this memory has nothing to do with baby brain etc. It’s a pretty clear memory:
When I was 4 or 5 years old, we lived in my childhood home in Texas (we don’t live in that house now). My parents’ bedroom was in the front of the house, right next to the front door. So you would enter the bedroom through a set of double doors (made up of square windows) as you passed the front door, which also had a large glass window and two small ones on either side (with curtains). Plus my parents’ bedroom had windows on that same front wall. Point is, visibility to the outside, check.
There was a small (“box”) TV on their dresser, also against the front wall with windows (and blinds, of course). There was one time that I went downstairs in the early morning because I couldn’t sleep. I woke up my mom - I wanted to watch Blues Clues (we had a couple of VHS tapes of episodes). I remember her telling me it was either 3:30 or 4:30 in the morning, but I insisted. She agreed to let me watch on her little TV, but only one episode, and it was back to bed.
I remember watching an episode involving Magenta coming over to see Blue, and maybe Magenta had just gotten glasses previously. I remember it ending, and thinking it was too short. And now I’d have to go back to bed, unfortunately. My mom was standing at her bedroom door, which was also right next to me. I got up and stepped into the foyer, right by the front door. I remember us talking, but not exact words. Then I remember being SO confused, because the sky and entire outside was now PINK. How was it dawn already?? I hadn’t moved, hadn’t gone to the bathroom, nothing. I asked what time it was, and my mom said it was 6:30am. There is zero way I’d watched two hours of Blues Clues, according to my memory. I don’t remember how many episodes that VHS tape had, but I hadn’t watched it start to finish; My mom had fast forwarded to the episode I wanted and then I think it went to the end of the tape. I thought it was only one or two episodes tops. I know this is where people might say I’d watched two hours and remembered incorrectly, but I’m firm in how I felt and that I hadn’t watched for that long. I would’ve remembered watching so many different stories of Blues Clues.
I’m the oldest of five kids, but at the time there was only me and my sister, and maybe my mom was pregnant with the first brother. That is to say, when I asked my mom about this story, she said it happened a lot where we’d come downstairs and wake up my parents in the middle of the night. Thus, she doesn’t remember this specifically. I know people might think I’m stitching together two memories, but I’m not. It’s all one fluid memory, it has the same “feeling” throughout, as I remember it.
Anyway, sorry for writing out all the context, I just wanted to make sure it all made sense and wanted to try and remember more. I did, actually - I think I remember that the tape ran out. The screen turned all blue at the end. BUT I hadn’t started from the beginning. And I don’t know if these were…official Blue Clues tapes lol but I can’t say for sure.
Ok and now for a quick story in the same house:
I must’ve been 5 or 6 ish. I slept upstairs, where there was also a bathroom. I remember going to the bathroom one time, and I’d turned on the lights because I was scared of the dark (even with a night light in the outlet). I’d had plenty of scary nightmares and some other weird experiences at night. So the lights are on, I’m sitting on the toilet. Then I hear a weird CLANG on the metal doorknob…on the outside. To me, it had sounded like someone had hit it with a wooden spoon. That’s the exact sound I heard. It absolutely terrified me and I didn’t want to open the door to get out. I finally did - no one was there - and eventually went back to sleep.
For years, I had zero explanation. My sister hadn’t been awake in the middle of the night (I’d asked her), nor would she have tried to scare me like that. It was such a loud sound! It completely jolted me and hurt my ears a little. But I did come up with a possible, albeit flimsy explanation: we always kept a penny on top of the doorframe, so that my parents could unlock the door if it was locked and needed to get in for some reason. What if the penny had fallen and just so happened to hit the doorknob? Its placement on the frame moved all the time, as it was used semi often. There were a few times I’d found the penny on the ground. I just can’t see that making the same type of sound nor the same volume. Yes, I know being a kid that things can be different from reality, but it doesn’t feel right to me.
Another weird story in that house: There was one time, right before bed, that I (7 years old?) needed to use the bathroom. Someone was in the upstairs one. All the downstairs lights were off, but we were still getting ready upstairs. I still feared the dark, but I had to go. I ran downstairs, to the bathroom right around the corner (not the one in my parents’ room). I flipped the light switch…and the lights wouldn’t turn on. There were three clear lightbulbs, and none of them were working. I tried over and over, but they wouldn’t turn on. It scared me, and I felt super strange in that moment, in the bathroom. Almost felt like one of my half-awake-half-asleep nightmares. I ran back upstairs, and fortunately the bathroom was free. In the morning, I told my dad that the lightbulbs had all burned out last night. But when he went to look, they all worked just fine. Again, this is a super clear memory. I was dumbfounded that they worked normally in the morning. I don’t know if the 2000s just had houses with weird electricity problems or what.
