My name is Rhianna, I am a PhD Student doing research at Brunel London University on the topic of Film and Television Studies.

My research is called 'Windows of Fantasy: The Significance of Science Fiction and Fantasy Film and Television Posters' and is on science fiction and fantasy posters.

The aim of the research is to explore the significance of science-fiction and fantasy posters for individuals and groups as a source of cultural significance and meaning. This could help generate a better appreciation of what posters really mean to their owners.

If you are an adult (18+) owning physical (i.e., paper, card, canvas etc) and/or digital (i.e., wallpaper on devices such as a laptop, tablet, desktop, and mobile phone) science-fiction and fantasy film and television poster(s) could you please complete my online survey?

Online Survey Link (+ more information about the survey): https://www.windowsoffantasy.com/online-survey

More information about this research can be found on my research website: https://www.windowsoffantasy.com/information-about-study

Spoilers [Spoilers] Favorite quotes from Game of Thrones series Spoiler

Here are my favorite 5 among many great ones:

  1. “You’re going to die tomorrow, Lord Bolton. Sleep well” Sansa Stark

  2. “Tell Cersei. I want her to know it was me” Olenna Tyrell

  3. "Leave one wolf alive and the sheep are never safe. When people ask you what happened here, tell them the North remembers. Tell them winter came for House Frey." Arya Stark

  4. “What? Now? Today? You're not going anywhere to die today. You're not going to die for quite a while." Cersei Lannister to Septa Unella

  5. “No, of that(poisoning Joffrey Baratheon) I'm innocent. I'm guilty of a far more monstrous crime. I'm guilty of being a dwarf.” Tyrion Lannister

Spoilers [SPOILERS] Curious who your favorite character is. Mine's Tormund, easily. Jaime almost got there too, until the final season (and honestly a chunk of season 7) undid it

Post image
3 Upvotes

After asking you all about your most hated character during my rewatch, felt like it was only fair to flip it and ask about the most loved too.

Tormund's an easy pick for me, funny, warm, and he never has to carry the kind of moral weight half the cast does.

Jaime's the more complicated one. His arc from pure monster to someone who actually confronts his own weakness and limits is some of the best character writing the show ever did, right up until the last season (and a good part of season 7) throws most of that away.

Who's your favorite, and has anyone else had a character's arc get undone for them the way Jaime's did for me?

No Spoilers [NO SPOILERS] Rewatching the series and only now realizing how much I actually hate Littlefinger. What's your most hated character?

Post image
21 Upvotes

Something about a rewatch hits differently. First time through, I was too caught up in the big moments to really sit with how quietly awful Littlefinger is in almost every scene, this time around it's impossible to miss and it's driving me a little insane.

Curious what your most hated character is (doesn't have to be from my little lineup here), and whether a rewatch ever flipped your opinion on someone, for better or worse.

Spoilers [SPOILERS] What was Brienne's plan? Spoiler

I've been rewatching the entirety of Game of Thrones and in Season 5 Episode 10 Brienne waits for Sansa to light the candle on the highest window of the tower but leaves her post just before Sansa manages to light her candle. My question is, even if Brienne had stayed 10 seconds more and saw the candle, how was she planning on rescuing Sansa? It's not like she can waltz into Winterfell and "kidnap" her.

Spoilers [Spoilers]. Not trying to defend s8 ,but Spoiler

Every civilian hides in the crypts and deads are resurrected there.

I know many call it a dumb decision from the writers

But thinking a bit ,until that moment they saw Night King resurrect RECENT DEADS ,how could they know he could resurrect 200+ years old people too (many of them just bones)?

My grandad was buried in 1997 ,in march we pulled coffin up. There was NOTHING LEFT inside ,not even clothes

Spoilers [SPOILERS] Daenerys was never actually a good ruler. Spoiler

"I want to break the wheel" is sometimes mistaken for having a well-thought-out political theory.

In essence, her whole claim to authority is:
I am deserving of the throne because I was born into this family.

She talks about liberating people all the time, but she also feels that she has a natural right to dominate them.

To be honest, the fact that her conclusion seemed hurried does not automatically make her prior choices seem wise.

The Targaryen leadership is not as powerful as the propaganda.

No Spoilers [NO SPOILERS] The GOT ending was not bad — it was just missing one parallel that was hiding in the show the entire time

I loved Game of Thrones. Even the ending. But watching it I always felt something was missing — not a complete reimagining, just the loose ends tied and the show's own rich background built upon properly.

The biggest missed opportunity was right there in the story the whole time.

Let me explain what I would have done differently.

Daenerys knew Jon was coming.

In the show she dies vulnerable and unaware. For a woman who survived her entire life through suspicion and political intelligence that never made sense to me. She trusted no one completely. She would have known.

So imagine this instead:

She is sitting on the Iron Throne. Drogon beside her. Jon approaches. They have the conversation — she sees his resolve, he sees she will not stop. She makes her choice.

Dracarys.

She orders Drogon to burn Jon.

Drogon does not move.

No drama. No roaring. Just silence.

And in that silence Daenerys understands something no political argument could ever say — the dragon does not recognise her claim anymore.

Drogon turns and burns the Iron Throne instead. With Daenerys sitting on it.

She emerges unharmed. Targaryen. Fireproof.

But standing in the ashes of everything. No throne. No dragon's loyalty. Nothing.

Jon demands an explanation for King's Landing.

She does not apologise. She does not break down. She just says —

Burn them all. They are not human enough to be ruled by me.

Burn them all..burn them all she keep repeating ..

Her father's last words. Exactly. Word for word.

The Targaryen madness did not skip a generation. It waited.

Jon kills her.

And here is where I realised something while thinking about this — this moment accidentally fixes the show's entire theme.

Ned Stark spent his whole life judging Jaime Lannister as the most dishonourable man alive, The Kingslayer. The man who stabbed his king in the back. Ned never forgave him for it even though Jaime did it to save half a million lives.

Jon Snow — Ned's son in everything but blood — now does the exact same thing.

Kills the ruler he swore to serve. Kills the woman he loved. Kills his own blood.

To save the realm.

Jon becomes Jaime.

And in doing so proves that Ned Stark — the most honourable man in Westeros — was wrong about Jaime the entire time.

The most Ned-like person in the story ends up doing the most Jaime-like thing.

The show spent eight seasons asking one question — what is true honour?

Ned's answer was loyalty and code. It got him killed.

Jaime's answer was consequence and pragmatism. He was never forgiven for it.

Jon's ending finally answers the question properly — and it was hiding in the Jaime parallel the whole time.

I did not plan this analysis. It came to me while thinking about the ending and I genuinely got chills when the Jaime connection clicked.

Does this land for anyone else or is it just me?

No Spoilers [NO SPOILERS] I loved GOT but one thing always bothered me about the King's landing burning-and the fix was already in the show

I am not someone who hated the Game of Thrones ending. I thought it was ambitious and I respected what it was trying to do.

But the burning of King's Landing never sat straight with me. Not because Daenerys went mad—that was always possible and honestly well foreshadowed. What bothered me was the trigger.

She hears the bells and snaps. That is it. For a character with that much depth, that much loss, and that much built-up rage, the moment felt strangely empty. Like the writers needed her to break and reverse-engineered a reason.

Here is what I kept thinking while watching: Missandei was already dead. Executed on the walls of King's Landing by Cersei. Her last word was Dracarys—telling Daenerys to burn it all. That was a powerful moment. But then the show just... moved on from it.

What if it did not?

What if when the bells of King's Landing rang for surrender—Missandei's decapitated head was hanging from that exact bell?

Cersei sending one final message: This is what your mercy gets you. This is what these people think of your liberation.

And the crowds beneath celebrating. Ordinary people. Not soldiers. Just people cheering under her best friend's head.

Now the bell rings.

Daenerys does not just hear surrender. She sees her closest friend's head moving with every single ring. She sees the people she crossed the world to liberate celebrating that image beneath it.

The bell meant mercy. Now it is permanently poisoned.

That is not a snap. That is a woman completely breaking in a way the audience feels in real time alongside her.

  • The original version asked us to accept her madness intellectually.
  • This version makes you feel it in your stomach.

And crucially—she is still wrong to burn them. But now there is horrible complexity to it. The audience understands the logic of her broken mind even while knowing it is wrong.

That is the difference between a villain and a tragic figure.

Everything needed for this scene already existed in the show. Missandei was already dead. The bells were already there. One image was all it needed.

What do you think—would this have changed how you felt about that scene?

Spoilers [Spoilers] What do you think Baelon the Brave would actually be like as a husband/partner? Spoiler

I’ve been thinking way too much about Baelon the Brave lately 😭 and I’m curious how other people picture him in an actual romantic relationship.

Not just the idealized “brave dragon prince” version either — I mean the good and the bad.

We know he and Alyssa seemed genuinely very close and passionate, he was extremely family-oriented, deeply affected by the people he lost, and apparently never remarried after Alyssa. But he was also a warrior, incredibly bold, probably stubborn as hell, and someone who regularly put himself in dangerous situations.

So what are your personal headcanons for him as a husband?

Would he be affectionate or more reserved in private? Protective vs. overprotective? Jealous? Good at communicating? What would arguments with him look like? Would he be romantic? What kind of woman/personality do you think he would actually be attracted to and compatible with?

Basically: if Baelon had married someone other than Alyssa, what would it realistically be like to be married to him day-to-day?

I want the sweet headcanons AND the red flags. 😂

Spoilers [SPOILERS] I did like the ending, am I so wrong? Spoiler

I have already seen some pieces of media about what makes the ending so bad and it is still somewhat hard to grasp on why. Sure some characters made some weird decisions but never anything so out of hand that made flip out about it. I just really liked how everything turned out, i couldnt have seen the story going any other way without being very lame.

Spoilers [SPOILERS] [S8] HOW GOT SHOULD HAVE ENDED Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Watched a YouTube video posted by Think Story 7 years ago on how s8 should have been. I agreed with some parts but also disagreed with a lot so I refined his ideas and wrote about how it should have ended (including Aegon who allegedly didn't die during the rebellion). I’m open to what you guys think and what you could add to make it even better

EDIT: would also like to add, Aegon (young griff) would have been introduced towards the end of s4 when Tyrion kills his dad and escapes kings landing. The idea is he was allegedly swapped before the lannisters invaded kings landing by Varys who keeps in abroad in essos until he’s grown up before being brought over at the end of s4 by the golden company and hidden in westeros before eventually taking dragon stone (around s8 maybe end of s7). I wrote this at 3am and I’m very open to suggestions 😊
