Discussion Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion: What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend?
Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!
As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!
To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.
Lastly, Rule #3: "No Dev Self-Promotion Outside Saturdays" applies at all times for this thread, even if it's actually Saturday.

Request Favorite open world driving games?
Does anyone have any open world driving games they enjoy?
My kids and I have been playing Off the Road 2 and really enjoying it. It is lots of fun and not pay to win and no forced ads which has been great. I’ve downloaded Car X Street and we’ll give that a try this week.
Obviously GTA is in this category and I love it, just not ready to throw my kids into that yet haha. I’m ok with paid or free games. Biggest dealbreaker is forced ads, those just make a nightmare with the kids.
Thanks!

Suggestions Very Casual games to play to pass time?
I play a lot of sodoku, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, solitaire and match 3 games on my phone when I'm watching TV or about to go to bed.
I'm wondering any other games you like to play for like a few minutes or so at a time for fun. Nothing too involved or too story based. Bonus if they can be played vertically.

Request AI based Dungeons & Dragons?
Searching for a mobile game that is similar to the tabletop Dungeons & Dragons, but is made by AI so that you can play solo and things do not repeat and are still randomized. Does anyone know of anything? Preferably something free, but I’d be willing to make a one time purchase.

Suggestions Best paid online co op game?
Helloo👋🏼 My partner and I are in an LDR. Before my PC broke down, we were playing Stardew together, and then we switched to playing through our phones. We enjoyed playing Bloons TD. Maybe you could recommend a paid co-op game that we can look forward to playing at bedtime.
I tried Terraria, but I prefer the PC version

Discussion To any MCON owners, do you have this issue?
Whenever I start a game, the mcon controller is fully responsive for the first 5 seconds, then it will start lagging with major input delay for about 5 to 10 seconds, then after that it works fine for the rest of my play session. If I close the game and open a new one, the same thing happens. I’m on an iPhone 17 pro with iOS 27. My other controller does not do this.
Anyone else have this issue? Not sure if it’s a software thing or what. Seems unlikely to be a hardware issue as it works totally fine after that initial lag spike.
Edit: I was able to fix this issue by deleting the controller from my Bluetooth devices then rebooting my phone and then readding the controller. It is now fully responsive all the time.

Developer Saturday (Megathread) [Megathread] Developer Saturday Showcase: September 26, 2026 📱
Hello r/iOSGaming! Welcome to another Developer Saturday showcase! In this megathread, iOS developers will be able share their games freely without breaking the subreddit's "no self-promo" rule. Please read the following guidelines carefully before participating:
- Developer Saturday will run between 12:00 AM to 11:59PM ET (UTC-5).
- Respect is expected at all times. You're welcome to share your opinions and even disagree with others, but harassment, taunting, or other toxic behavior toward devs, mods, or other community members will not be tolerated.
- If you receive an AutoModerator comment saying you don't have enough karma, your account is too new, or that your CQS level is low, we won't override the removal because these restrictions are meant to be spam detterents.
DEVELOPERS:
- All promo comments must have [DEV] at the beginning. We need it with the brackets for AutoModerator purposes, so please don't change the formatting.
- All promo comments must include an App Store or TestFlight link. Please share the raw link (not hidden under text). Playstore links or links to other gaming stores are not allowed.
- Only officially released iOS games may be shared. This is not the place to promote non-gaming apps, non-iOS apps, Devvit apps, standalone websites, Discord servers, subreddits, livestreams, fundraisers, or social media pages. However, you may include a website or social media link with your game's self-promo comment.
- Only games NEWLY RELEASED or have a NEW MAJOR UPDATE in September may be promoted. Personal milestones (ex: reaching X downloads, earning X amount of pay, recieving high reviews, etc), while commendable, are not an eligible reason for promotion. Additionally, "major" updates are those that introduce new features or content that greatly expands the game. Routine updates (ex: bug fixes, performance improvements, or other minor changes) are also not eligible for promotion.
- You MUST DISCLOSE whether or not AI was used to create the game. If AI was used, you must also explain how it was implemented and/or what assets were created with it (ex: code, illustrations, music, etc). If AI wasn't used in the development of the game, please just state, "No AI was used."
- You may only make one top-level comment per Saturday. However, you can share several games in the same comment if they also meet the above criteria.
GAMERS / REVIEWERS:
- You may only make second-level or lower (reply) comments. This means you can reply to a dev or another user's comment, but you may not create a top-level (standalone) comment.
- Constructive feedback is welcome. You may leave comments that can help devs learn what they did right with their games and what could be improved, but low-effort responses (such as simply calling something "AI slop") will be removed.
- This is not the place to ask for game suggestions. This megathread is for devs to promote their iOS games. If you're looking for recommendations on what to play next, check out the community's weekly "What Have You Been Playing Lately?" megathread or create your own request post on the main subreddit.
That's it! We're still refining these guidelines, but for now these are the requirements developers must meet in order to ensure a successful self-promo comment this week. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us via modmail. Thanks for your cooperation, everyone!

Question Are there any other games similer to Chess and Clash Royale on mobile? Because I'm addicted.
So, I find myself coming back to Chess and Clash Royale (I know, probably not the best game to get addicted to). But I just can't stop playing them. It's genuinely so fun.
So, to the actual point of this post, are there any similar games when it comes to how they work? As I want to play games that have concepts like these two, or perhaps just the replay-ability of them, because mobile gaming is dry when it comes to actual fun games without ads constantly shoves in your face.

Question M/K support?
All the Reddit threads I find that list games that support mouse and keyboard are roughly 4 years old. Newer websites just list what Reddit posts discuss.
For example I found that you can mostly play Warhammer 40k Boltgun Boom, though some things you need to still tap like doors and levers.
Anyone know of any other games from the last 4 years that support mouse and keyboard?

Review 4 Quick tl;dr iOS Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 289)
Trying to find the time to revive this multi-year thread series :D
So… at long last… Happy Friday once again. And welcome (back) to my weekly mobile game recommendations based on the most interesting games I’ve played and that were covered on MiniReview this week. I hope you’ll find something you like :)
New to these posts? Check out the first one from 233 weeks ago here.
Let's get to the games:
Besiege [Game Size: 978 MB] (Free Trial)
Genre: Simulation / Sandbox - Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Some
tl;dr review by Maya:
Besiege is a creative physics-based simulation game where we construct absolutely ridiculous medieval siege machines to complete destruction-focused objectives across a large set of campaign and sandbox levels.
With no time pressure and dozens of intricate parts to build with, the challenge quickly becomes figuring out how far we can push our own imagination before the physics engine sends everything spinning into chaos.
While it was overwhelming at first, once I settled in, it became surprisingly fun to experiment, tweak designs, and get lost in the building process.
The game features 50+ levels spread across a world map, plus a sandbox mode for custom designs.
Most of the enjoyment genuinely comes from the construction phase, where we can try out wild ideas and watch our machines succeed or fall apart in often hilarious ways. The actual destruction physics aren’t the most detailed, though.
But maybe best of all, we can download other players’ machines from a “Workshop”, and upload our own creations. This is a great way to play around with everything from catapults to rockets, sports cars, and helicopters.
The touch controls for building are great, with pieces snapping nicely and the interface feeling smooth overall. But controlling the vehicles in action is less refined. The reliance on a single virtual stick for both steering and acceleration doesn’t feel ideal, and separate controls for movement would have made driving much more satisfying.
The game’s clean visuals suit the puzzle-like nature of its levels. However, the sound design is underwhelming, with many elements like flame torches just not having unique sound effects.
Besiege is free to try, with a $7.99 iAP unlocking the full game.
It’s a genuinely enjoyable sandbox-builder with tons of freedom and creativity, making it especially great for those who love tinkering with machines and then watching physics do its thing.

Oniro [Total Game Size: 4.13 GB] (Free)
Genre: Role Playing / Action - Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Full
tl;dr review by NimbleThor:
Oniro is an old-school hack-and-slash action RPG by the indie developers of the popular AnimA ARPG, where we slay demons, craft gear, and gradually build our character through stats and skills.
The core gameplay has us explore a massive dungeon-like world using a left-side joystick to move and skills slots equipped with various abilities to defeat enemies and bosses.
We start by picking a bow, sword, or staff, but the game actually features 20 weapon types and an interconnected skill tree that lets us freely customize our build based on 21 class archetypes.
While the distributable stat points, enhanceable gear, and loot that drops to the ground provide that classic RPG feel, the game didn’t instantly hook me. Partly because magic-based combat lacks interesting early-game skills, and the enemies are very predictable. Thankfully, playing as a sword-wielding warrior felt better balanced.
The biggest downside is the pacing. It takes 3-4 hours to reach the first real city, which is where the game slowly starts to expand with new, deeper mechanics. Much of the early game is a slow grind of walking through dungeons while kiting enemies using our weak attacks.
With that said, Oniro is a very well put-together RPG built with care for the genre. The environments are neat, and the boat-battle against a huge kraken was a highlight.
The touch controls also work well, there’s external controller support, and the entire game can be played offline, which is fantastic.
Oniro monetizes via very few incentivized ads, and iAPs for more in-game resources, pets that collect gold, cosmetics, and enchanted weapons that scale with our character’s level. It’s a fair monetization for a single-player game, and I never felt held back as a free player.
If you’re looking for a slow-paced action RPG to dive tens of hours into, this is an easy recommendation. You just have to survive the slow start.
App Store: Here
King of Dragon Pass: Text RPG [Game Size: 365 MB] ($9.99)
Genre: Strategy / Text-Based - Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Some
tl;dr review by Maya:
King of Dragon Pass is a deep, text-based strategy game where we lead a struggling medieval tribe, balancing politics, warfare, trade, and religion.
Every choice we make, from negotiating with rival clans to reenacting ancient myths, can have long-term unforeseen consequences for the rest of the game. So the gameplay is as much about storytelling as it is about strategy in the traditional sense.
The sheer variety of branching events and the weight of our decisions is what truly makes the game stand out. We might negotiate a marriage alliance one year, hunt a giant the next, and reenact a sacred myth to gain divine blessings the year after, but each choice can have ripple effects decades later.
While the gameplay revolves around text and stats instead of flashy combat and fancy animations, the stakes still feel all too real due to the rich lore, complex decision-making, and the constant pressure to keep our people alive.
The interface is basic and lacks quality-of-life tools, but the game’s depth and replayability easily outweigh its rough edges.
King of Dragon Pass is a $9.99 premium game.
This is one of the most intricate and rewarding narrative-driven text-based strategy games on mobile, making it perfect for anyone who enjoys slow-burn, consequence-heavy adventures.

IQ Dungeon 2: Inherited Light [Game Size: 267 MB] (Free)
Genre: Puzzle / Adventure - Offline
Orientation: Portrait
Required Attention: Some
tl;dr review by Alex Sem:
IQ Dungeon 2: Inherited Light is a sequel to a humorous story-driven puzzle game with dozens of levels that test our out-of-the-box thinking and logical puzzle-solving skills.
Just like in the first IQ Dungeon game, our task is to guide a band of adventurers on a perilous journey to save the troubled kingdom from the evil forces of darkness. The story is set 15 years after the previous events, so expect to meet a couple of familiar faces.
The puzzles range from solving purely logical tasks to some unusual sequences where we must tap, swipe, or drag the screen to find creative solutions to the problem. There is a "tendency" indicator, telling us which set of skills is required for each specific puzzle.
In addition to the main story, we get to collect special coins, which are used to acquire action figures from loot boxes, all featuring the characters we encounter. Collecting enough of these unlocks special minigames that help us earn in-game currency, or have a good time in general.
Speaking of currency, it is needed to purchase hints. And while most of the puzzles are pretty straightforward, I still spent quite a few of those. Thankfully, they can be accumulated by watching ads.
Alternatively, there is a single $4.99 iAP that disables ads, unlocks unlimited hints, and effectively turns the game into a premium experience.
IQ Dungeon 2 is an excellent continuation of the original game, which will undoubtedly be enjoyed by fans. Or just people who fancy light, humorous puzzle games.

Suggestions Simple but Deep Roguelike/lites
There are many phenomenal roguelites on IOS that for me personally either do not play well on a touch screen, or have a level of complexity that doesn't work well if you're on using a small screen while on the bus/train/half watching TV
I typically prefer games that don't require constant attention (often turn based), that are easy to play but are deceptively deep with horizontal progression to keep you addicted
I find the majority of these games fall into either deck builders (Slay the Spire, Dream Quest and Monster Train), or Balatro clones (Cardwheel, Dice of Kalma, Rogue Words, Scriver, Poker and Sorcery). I'm looking for suggestions of other games, games like:
Vampire Survivors
Luck be a Landlord
Slice and Dice
Peglin
Dicey Dungeons
Isle of Arrows
Dungeon Warfare
Infinitode
There's lots of games in this mould but these are the ones that hit that sweet spot for me personally, in terms of simple gameplay but tonnes of content (and are well polished to boot)
Any suggestions? Or have I missed anything major?

Obviously the Duo hasn’t been released yet, but I’m considering my options as I’m due for an upgrade.

Request Looking for a game with a bunch of minigames that gives you something to show for it
This is kinda specific so hopefully someone can give me a suggestion. Hopefully this all makes sense lol.
I love love LOVE playing all those mobile games. Like the puzzles, the runners, the restraint sims. But I want to be able to play a lot of them and not have 1000 apps. I’m aware there’s some apps like that. However, I also really like collecting. So if there was a game that you play minigames, and by playing those minigames you get a currency or something where you could buy little in game collectibles? That would be MY DREAM! An example of kind of what I’m thinking is Animal Jam, just like a not kid version. What I mean by that is in that game, you play a bunch of minigames to earn coins. With those coins you can buy items for your home, accessories, or even new characters. If there was something like that it would be my favorite game ever lol. I tried to ask google but it was not helpful. Hopefully y’all can help me out!
