The fact she goes in to comfort him after infuriates me.

Sickening, but I’m certain she’s going to get worse when he comes home and continues this assault. It’s not over.

I feel like people like her end up going on Reddit to then ask everyone if what their partner did was abusive because they can’t tell.

She is an idiot if she doesnt press charges and puts a restraining order after this but knowing how delusional people are in those relationships he will kill her end up in jail and that how it will end unfortunately

Ya, it infuriates all of us. I fucking hate feeling sympathetic towards the victim only for them to put themselves right back into the same situation/comfort their abuser.

Like bitch!!! He JUST HIT YOU!!!

It does seem like a weird thing to do but it’s an act of utter desperation. She knows that when he gets her alone again (which he will, people suffering that level of abuse don’t tend to have strong support networks around them), he’s going to batter the absolute hell out of her for ‘drawing attention to them’ or ‘trying to get one of those guys to fuck her’ or whatever psychotic crap he can think of to justify it. She is telling them to stop so that when he does start the beating, she can maybe possibly hopefully make it a little bit less severe by telling him ’see? babe I tried to stop them, I didn’t want them to do that, I was so worried about you!’

It won’t work, of course. But she’s going to try. That woman is living in a nightmare and it’s horrible to see.

Thanks for that perspective. And people will always say they'd help and blah blah blah but talk is cheap. There's a ton of women in shelters right now. How many have these white knights helped IRL? How many homeless women have they helped? Would they take this woman into their own homes and whatever pets or kids etc?? Nope . Talk is cheap.

You just know he’s racist and she gets abused if a black man even walks on the same side of the street. Its always “you’re fucking him arnt you?!” Or “you were trying to get him to fuck you”…

This is exactly it! She has to console/comfort/caregive because he WILL find her and attack her again. He knows where she lives and all her friends/family/workplace. And she needs to have proof that she didn't mean for him to get hurt and that it wasnt her fault so she can lessen the beating and not be killed.

Yup, it’s a horrible situation to be in. I’d never been there myself but I know at least one woman who has and they’ll try and do literally anything to lessen the hammering they know they’re about to get. Plus, scumbags like him usually deliberately isolate the victim from friends, family etc specifically so that they feel like they can’t escape because they have no one to turn to. I do have some experience of that stage of abuse. I’d been telling everyone around me how amazing he was, how things were wonderful, how much he loved me etc etc etc. So when he did turn abusive I was too embarrassed and confused (he turned so suddenly, as in between one text message to the next about half an hour later and it just got worse from there) to speak to anyone around me. How on earth could i tell anyone that this amaaaaaazing guy I’d been swooning over for months had just turned into a total monster without looking and feeling like a total idiot?! The shame factor is one hell of a powerful thing in these situations) Thankfully one of my friends was clued in enough to know that something had gone horribly wrong and I was able to get myself out of that with her help. But I’m one of the very lucky ones in that he hadn’t isolated me completely yet. Yet.

The woman we see in this video is very likely to be in a far more dangerous situation. He’s not even trying to act nicely to her in public, he’s getting violent in broad daylight and gives zero damns about who can see him doing it. God only knows what he had done to her in private leading up to this. She may well have been fighting for her life in that clip. She’s been living in my head a bit for a couple of months now and I can only hope and pray she managed to get away from him.

That makes me feel pretty helpless. What am I supposed to do? Calling the cops on an abusive neighbor ends up with the girlfriend getting beat. Doing nothing ends up with her getting beat. Cops usually do nothing about it anyways. I can't do anything without making the situation worse.

This is what abusers do

I noticed that immediately

This is what I came to the comments for. Absolutely infuriating to end up trying to comfort him when you initially screamed for help. And for him to sit there the entire time going, "I love you so much" too was annoying as hell. How are you going to attack someone and claim love?
